UNBREAK MY HEART (SECOND CHANCE MATE)

"What do you mean by that ? Are you saying that the position of Alpha had left my family, that is totally impossible.

"You can't just tell me that I need explanations". Robina yelled loud enough for everyone in the hall to hear what she was saying.

She had returned from Moonvale Pack three days ago, tired and disturbed by pregnancy hormones; she had stayed back hoping that Ian could come and visit.

Buh he had neither visited nor called her and now she was standing before some of the prominent and leading wolves in the Pack who knew all about the rules and regulations guiding the Pack.

"What nonsense is this? How can you tell me that I can never be Luna, remember my father was Alpha of this great Pack."

"You actually don't know about that and it is none of our business, what we are saying is that the position of Alpha has left your family. "Beta Swiss retorted.

This was more than shocking, it was impossible, it had been seven months when she left the Pack to go and learn all about leadership in Moonvale Pack only to come back and hear this.

Where is Ian? She thought. She needed him now more than ever.

"I need to hear from my mate. He alone will understand the trash you all are vomiting."

She turned around as the big oak door opened, Ian walked in expensively dressed, he looked different from the Ian she had left seven months ago, more like a ruler, dressed in a charcoal black suit, his strides were tall and filled with pride.

He held a cute little baby girl of about a year in his arm, she could see the unmistakably fatherly love and care with the way he carried her.

Worst of all, he didn't even look at her direction as he handed her over to a nanny.

She wanted to run to him, to hug him, to tell him how much she had missed him but for the first time in her life, her legs betrayed her, they felt glued to the earth.

What was going on? Her heart hammered loud enough for everyone to hear, she must be in a dream.

She watched him as he strode past her and went up to the raised podium and sat on the same chair her father always sits whenever he had cases to preside over.

"Welcome." He said to her,

She blinked, just welcome? What was going on? Is it some kind of prank or what?

"I heard you arrived three nights ago, how was your trip? splendid I guess". He answered himself

Really, her eyes bugged out in surprise and confusion swirled in her eyes.

"Ian." She said in a whisper, more like she didn't say anything because she wasn't sure if she even heard her own voice.

"What's going on here?"

"Just as you heard, I was told that you wanted to see me, what do you want?"

"I don't get it, what is going on here?" She shook her head trying to shake off the confusion." I don't understand the position of the alpha leaving my family, Ian. I need explanations."

"There's nothing to get confused about, I bless the name of the moon goddess. Macalister here had given you the necessary explanation and I'm quite sure you still retained that level of smartness you had before you went over to Moonvale Pack."

"You can't do this to me Ian, you are in no position to sit on that seat as the alpha of this Pack."

"Oh yes I'm sitting on it, so what are you going to do about it?"

The authority, the pride, the confidence and everything shocked her, this was definitely not happening.

"Would you mind telling people present at this honorable gathering what we both discussed before I left ."She said, her voice breaking in tears.

"Did we ever discuss anything? The only discussion I had was with your father, he instructed that after his death I was to rule, based on the fact that you are weak and cannot rule the Pack."

" Lies Ian, all those are lies my father never said such I was the one who discussed with you I told you to rule instead, to oversee the affairs of the Pack while I was away, why would you hurt me this way?"

Already she couldn't control it, the tears streamed down her face in rivulets.

"I know nothing of what you speak of, I was only following the orders of your father beside he told me how.... he paused and waved his hands in the air to emphasize on the particular word which seemed too heavy for him to speak. How promiscuous you are".

The last sentence broke her, she could never believe it, even in a million years that Ian, the man she loved and cherished and would give her life to, would betray her and take her position from her.

"Just take a look at you Robina, you were your father's pride but see ,you came back pregnant and I'm sure you don't know who the father is".

His words were enough to raise even the dead, he just disgraced her, made her look stupid before everyone.

"Ian". She calls softly." What happened to you? Tell me what's going on?" she cried in pain.

"I came here to see you, to talk about our plans of ruling together as mates."

"You didn't come to see me Robina, be truthful for once ,you came to see your lover."

"What lover?" She yelled.

"Why would you betray me Ian?". She couldn't bring herself to tell him she was carrying his baby.

"Enough I will not sit here and watch you slander my name, getting pregnant out of wedlock is a huge offense, most especially from a Luna". He blunted out aggressively.

"You had better tell us who is responsible before you drag me into a filthy mess I know nothing of. I'm pretty sure I'm not responsible for the thing you called pregnancy".

He finished and stretched his hand and one of the wolves placed a scroll on it.

He stretched his hand again and another took it from him and handed it to Robina who read it, her body convulsing from the shock and betrayal.

"That was a written agreement between your father and I."

"So I'm the Alpha, accept it. Now these are my terms, you can live in this Pack but you are not to come anywhere near royal grounds."

"What!"

She shrieked."That...."

"I'm not done."

He stood up."Robina Mary Adams,I reject you as my mate."

She had that far away look in her eyes as the bus sped away to a destination she had decided to go and never to return.

Leaving Silver Furs Pack seems like the best decision she had ever taken but as the bus drove off.

She remembered that night like it was yesterday, how he held her and made her face feel so special that night. She smiled at the memory and shook her head gently as if shaking her head could wipe out the memory which still lingered at the side of her head.

"You look so beautiful tonight." He had said to her that night after their family dinner as she looked at the pitch dark clouds without a single moon and wondered what it could be like if Ian wasn't in her life.

She turned to give him a small smile and kept on looking at the sky again.

Her heart tugged, she knew this was the last time they would probably see each other again, she was going for a training which would equip her with how to rule the Pack, far away from Silver Furs Pack and wasn't sure when she would be back.

"Yeah I have something to tell you." She said, sounding quite serious.

He quickly turned to focus his eyes and attention on her.

"What's wrong Rob?" He called her pet name. "Are you all right? Is everything alright with you at home? What is wrong Rob?"

He said throwing a thousand questions at her and getting worried.

That was her Ian always getting worried whenever she was not fine, she watched him as his eyes glowed a darker shade of red, he was getting angry.

"Are you hurt?" He asked again, suddenly getting angry.

She watched him and almost laughed; she was the center of his universe and he would make sure she wasn't put in harm's way.

"No, it's nothing Ian, I'm not hurt, everything is fine at home but it's my father".

"I don't want to go over to Moonvale Pack, I can learn and know whatever I want here in SilverFurs Pack." She paused to look into his eyes. "I....I... I just felt like I'm missing you already."

He held her cheeks in both hands and caressed them softly.

"I know." He said gently.

"Time flies and soon you'll be back home but your father wants the best for you, how would you rule if you don't know anything about it?"

"You don't understand Ian, I will be gone for a long time, there will be a lot...lots."

"Hey ...hey ." He said looking deeply into her eyes.

"I will always be here waiting for you, I belong to you and you belong to me, no matter the time, the place, I will still love you Robina and I'll always be here."

She looked deeply into his eyes and said brokenly.

"I don't have to leave Ian, I wish ...I want to stay with you forever, I'm going to miss you so much, I can't bear not seeing your face for a day."

"But you are always in my mind, you are always in my heart." He said. "And I love you so much Robina, I want to see you happy, I want to see you be a great woman."

"Can you do me a favor?" She asked after a moment of silence dwelled between them.

"Anything for you"

"I want you to rule in my stead if I'm not back......"

"What, no, no. I can't do that, Robina, do you know what you are asking of me?"

"My father is very sick and I don't know...."

"Look Robina, your father will become healthy again, you will come back from Moonvale Pack after your training and you will become Luna."

"You don't understand, Ian, someone else might take the position...."

"No one will."

"That's why I beg you to rule in my stead if eventually things go wrong."

"This is a hard decision to make, Rob but because of the love I have for you, I will."

She threw her hands around him and hugged him so tight.

"Thank you so much, Ian I love you."

"And I love you more."

He said, still holding gently to her hand.

The more she stared at him, the more her eyes watered, she never believed that a day like this would come.

"I will always call you to know how you're doing at Moonvale Pack, I will also come visiting too because I don't want you to miss me that much."

Her eyes lit up when she heard those words.

"I love you Ian."

"I love you too Robina."

He said as his lips claimed hers in a hot passionate and deep kiss which took a few minutes. He broke it and looked into her eyes longingly.

He held her hands and brought them to his lips kissing them gently then he led her to his room.

The lights overhead danced with their shadows as he stood behind her, he held her shoulders and give it a gentle squeeze then slowly, hesitantly he pulled down the zipper of her dress and let kisses roll down the back of her neck.

He took seconds to look at her, lust filled his eyes. His lips proceeded to her ear lobe and nibbled on them carefully and gently sending moans out of her lips.

He heard her gasping, as he turned her around to face him, his lips descending on hers again hotter and fiercer than before.

He pulled the straps of her dress and watched them fall to her feet then gazed at her with eyes filled with longing and lust.

Gently he lifted her, took her to the bed. He took a minute of his time to stare down at her beautiful body.

"You look so beautiful, Robina ." He said breathlessly as his fingers did their magic on her body.

She gave a loud moan, his fingers parted her legs open gently so he would fit in.

She felt a sharp pain in between her legs and was about to scream when his lips claimed hers again in a hot passionate kiss.

She was so lost in her thought, so very far away that she didn't know they were at Moonvale Pack already.

"This is your stop ma'am." She jerked back to reality, surprisingly there were only five remaining in the bus.

She could feel the eyes of other passengers on her and even the driver who was staring back in the rearview mirror.

"Thank you." She nodded and got down with her luggages.

Up ahead written on a high sign were the words.

"WELCOME TO MOONVALE PACK."

After some months in Moonvale....

She didn't know how long she had been sitting down there staring into space still thinking about her life.

It's been a year already, a year of being rejected by her mate, a year when she had taken her only son to Moonvale Pack, hoping and wishing that life would get better and she would have forgotten all about Ian but she couldn't lie that every moment of the day she thought of him.

She gulped down the whole content in the wine glass and set it back on the table with a little force.

Using the back of her hand, she wiped her mouth clean and sat up straight.

"Do you want more drink ?" One of the waiters approached taking the glass, replacing it on a tray he held.

He looked at her, meeting her eyes. He smiled

She shook her head and got up wobbly on her feet.

"Where is the restroom?" She found herself asking.

What did she really need the rest room for anyways? She thought

The waiter pointed at the direction of the restroom.

She didn't know if she actually used the restroom or not but she knew she had flagged a cab down stuttered her address and got in.

In minutes, She was at her apartment, she staggered and rummaged through her bag to get her keys.

Living baby Kevin all alone with the babysitter wasn't her intention but what was she to do?

She was kind of a failure and the most painful part of it all was her mate's rejection towards her.

She cried silently as she moved trying to find her feet, she didn't see him coming, the tall dark and handsome stranger who got down from his car.

"You should watch where you are going." He said kind of pissed off.

"You are the one who ought to watch where you are going." She bumped into him again.

He looked at her questioningly, her face was familiar, where had he met her before?

Oh yes she was the lady who had a cute little baby boy who was just a year old, his new neighbor. He had been postponing going to welcome them into their apartment for a very long time.

He wondered what kind of mother she was.

Now the opportunity was here but she was quite drunk.

"You shouldn't be rude." she said, slurping "Next time watch where you are going and say sorry when you bump into other people."

He wanted to laugh at the turn off event, he thought about her little boy and wondered where he was?

"Where is your son? I think you should go and see him now."

She stared at him, trying to speak, then pointed a shaky finger at him.

"It is none ..." she couldn't complete her sentence as she fell over him.

She opened her eyes slowly, trying to force them to stay open but it seemed hot like she was fighting a lost battle.

She turned to her side and the sharp rays of the sun hit her fiercely, forcing her to shut her eyes back again.

She waited for a minute or two before she sat up slowly then her eyes began to open, hazy at first before the full view of the most beautiful and magnificent room she had ever seen in her entire life stood before her.

She gasped and wondered where she was, looking around her wildly and trying to remember what happened last night but just as she tried to gather all the pieces of last night event back into her head she felt a sharp pain racing past and she held both sides of her head with her hands and she winced in pain.

"You are awake." She heard a voice say she didn't know when the door got open and someone walked in.

She could feel his presence filled with authority towards her.

Lifting her head up slowly she blinked back in confusion.

He stood there like nothing ever happened, holding a white glass tray with some stuff she didn't want to care about on it.

The audacity, the impetus after everything he had done, this wasn't happening.

"You slept for a long time". He said placing the tray on the bedside table.

"I brought some medications and some food, I presume that you might be hungry."

"Of course I am." She said sarcastically, making him raise his eyes in surprise.

"You have the nerves to bring this to me, do I look like I'm hungry?"

Surprise dance in his eyes as he watched the beautiful woman on his bed acting all crazy.

"I don't understand."

"Oh you don't, after all you did you hurt me and rejected me as your mate and you're so funny, you are standing there and pretending like you don't know what happened. I already birthed our son and when he is all grown I will make sure to let him know he has no father, bet me."

He opened his mouth to speak but she shut him up once again.

"I don't want to hear any apologies or any excuses, you have done your worst."

"Why follow me here to Moonvale Pack? I thought you chose her over me because she was better than I am, your new Luna, you even accused me of cheating. You didn't even bother hearing me out."

I'm so sorry but I don't think we know each other formally." He managed to say after sometime allowing her to rant.

"Really you're such a good actor Ian, a devil that is what you are. You rejected me and your son and you have the guts..."

She looked around her widely.

"I swear to the moon goddess you are so dead ...I will never forgive you."

He watched her for a few minutes and began to process everything she had said adding all the pieces of the puzzles then he smiled, he knew what just happened.

"I'm sorry but I'm not the man you think I am. I think this is the case of mistaken identity ."

"Of course it is." She said sarcastically.

"You're such a bloody liar."

"I'm sorry once again." A smile tugging at his lips "I'm not Ian, my name is Makael and I have lived in this Moonvale Pack since I was 14, I guess you have mistaken me for someone else, your mate I suppose."

It's all dawn on her and she began to understand, she looked closely at him and realized that he was not Ian but bore a striking resemblance to him.

How can two different people look this alike? She felt so ashamed of herself.

She wanted to hide, to run away. She quickly flung the sheet aside and meant to get up, to run out of his house when she stepped on the sheet and found herself falling.

Like rushing wind, he rushed to her side and held her as she he fell to the bed with him falling across her.

Then it happened, that strong connection, that spark, the scent floated into their nostrils and they both blinked back in surprise and confusion.

"MATE." They said the unison.
