Chapter 1 BRANTFORD CITY

In the heart of Brantford, a bustling city that witnessed extraordinary events in the 1850s, the roots of an epic saga were sown. It all commenced with a cataclysmic meteor shower that gifted certain individuals with powers beyond imagination. These gifted humans became known as mutants.

Within this extraordinary spectrum of humanity, some chose the path of righteousness, employing their newfound abilities for the greater good. Others, however, succumbed to the allure of darker desires. The world, as we knew it, spiraled into chaos. It was in this tumultuous era that three distinct factions emerged, each competing for dominance.

First, there were "The Good Mutants" a group of mutants dedicated to preserving peace and harmony in the city. Their primary mission was to protect Brantford from the looming malevolence that threatened to engulf it.

On the opposing side stood the "Mutant's Underground" a coalition of power-hungry individuals with a vision of reshaping the world to favor the mutant kind. They sought shelter underground, nurturing their abilities to eventually rise to power.

As an answer to the growing mutant menace, the government gave birth to a covert organization known as "The Fanatics." This group, armed with state-of-the-art technology and specialized weaponry, had one sole purpose: to eradicate all mutants who posed a threat to humanity.

"The Fanatics" defied convention; they were not a typical police or military force. They operated as an elite strike force, equipped with technology capable of suppressing mutant abilities. Their objective was nothing less than to eliminate all those they deemed dangerous.

Amidst this chaos, a remarkable mutant named Lucas, with the ability to harness and control light, as well as possessing incredible superhuman strength, met a tragic end. My abilities were both a gift and a curse.

Tragedy struck again when Rebecca, my wife, a mutant with the power to open portals to other places, was killed before her true potential could be unlocked.

We had a son, Reed, who, by common belief, was destined to be exceptionally powerful due to our mutant heritage. However, as he grew, it became clear that Reed was not manifesting any extraordinary abilities.

Before my untimely demise, I entrusted the care of my son to my dearest friend, Thiago. He was not a mutant, but he embraced the responsibility wholeheartedly. Thiago made a difficult decision, leading Reed to safety in an underground refuge. He ensured Reed's survival with ample provisions and essential supplies.

The underground refuge became home to a diverse group of individuals, both mutants and humans. However, tensions occasionally flared, with humans often blaming mutants for the city's troubles. Tragically, the war claimed lives above ground and below.

"The Fanatics" remained relentless in their pursuit of mutants, often clashing with the underground community. As Reed grew, Thiago, his guardian, noticed his apparent lack of powers, despite his mutant lineage.

Amidst the struggles and loneliness, a brave young girl named Lauren entered our lives. Orphaned at a tender age, her parents had fallen victim to "The Fanatics". Lauren, driven by her fear and resilience, awakened her latent abilities, allowing her to manipulate the very air around her.

At first, Reed was hesitant to embrace her companionship, but Lauren's unwavering spirit won him over. Their friendship blossomed, and together, they navigated the challenges of our subterranean existence. Lauren, in her wisdom, reminded Reed that, at the tender age of three, he need not carry the burden of isolation.

In the depths of the "Mutants Underground," a more sinister alliance took shape, led by a determined mutant named Sophie. She aimed to create a world exclusively for mutant kind, with the power to manipulate energy fields.

Her early life was marred by captivity at the hands of "The Fanatics" equipped with a bracelet that suppressed her powers. A power outage provided her with the opportunity to break free and escape.

As she survived alone, Sophie crossed paths with Reina, a water-manipulating mutant. Together, they formed a deep bond, trained tirelessly, and aided fellow mutants. Their sanctuary was eventually exposed by humans, falsely accused of environmental destruction, alerting "The Fanatics".

Sophie and Reina fought bravely, but their confrontation resulted in Reina's tragic demise. Sophie's anger and sorrow transformed her into a relentless force, seeking vengeance against

Years passed, and Sophie honed her abilities, amassing considerable wealth in Mexico. The time had come for her to return to Brantford, where she constructed an underground fortress founded with the unshakable belief that mutants deserved a world free of persecution.

The loss of her dear friend, Reina, fueled Sophie's unrelenting quest for retribution against "The Fanatics".

During the turmoil that gripped our city, a beacon of hope emerged in the form of a fellow mutant named John. As the war raged on, he fearlessly traversed the chaotic streets, coming to the aid of injured, terrified, and helpless mutants. John, a man with an unwavering heart, ushered them to a hidden sanctuary in the sewer. There, they found solace and strength.

In this hidden refuge, John's mission was twofold. He nurtured young minds, teaching them the importance of choosing the path of goodness and training them to harness their extraordinary abilities. His vision extended beyond protection; it embraced the idea that mutants could be a force for good, both in times of peace and in the face of inevitable conflict.

'My name is Lucas, and I was once one of those to whom John extended a helping hand'.

For me, John's presence was nothing short of a miracle.

When I was a mere child of five, a calamity struck our home. I had yet to master my ability to control light, and in a moment of unchecked power, I inadvertently set our house ablaze. The incident forced me to leave my parents in the hope of sparing them further danger.

Amid chaos, "The Fanatics" agents descended upon my family. They separated me from my sister, and I could only watch as they tore her away from us. The pain of that loss still lingers in my heart to this day.

John, the man with the power of a human torch, took me under his wing. He displayed the remarkable ability to manipulate, absorb, and emit fire from every part of his body. He was a protector, a mentor, and a guiding light for the lost and the forsaken.

My promise, forged in the embers of my childhood, was to ensure that no one else would suffer the way my sister did. I vowed to protect both mutants and humans, standing strong against those who sought to do them harm.

John, driven by a similar mission, sought to forge a collective of strong mutants to aid in our cause. He embarked on a journey to various cities, each holding its unique share of challenges and opportunities.

Our journey began in the city of Chicago, where rumors spoke of a powerful mutant named Kelvin wreaking havoc.

Kelvin, gifted with abilities akin to a demigod, could fly and manipulate objects with his mind, possessing telekinetic powers. The city quaked under the destructive might of his uncontrolled abilities.

As word of John's quest reached Kelvin's ears, misunderstanding gave way to fury. He believed that John's intentions were hostile, and in his anger, the immense power within him burst forth, unleashing havoc upon the city.

John's mission had led him to Kelvin, and in the heart of this fiery chaos, a fateful confrontation between two remarkable mutants was on the horizon.

Chapter 2 WELCOME TO THE TEAM

CHAPTER TWO: WELCOME TO THE TEAM

Our search for Kelvin took us on an unexpected detour. John was captivated by the beauty of a mysterious girl he encountered, and he couldn't resist following her to her hidden hideout. In his pursuit of this newfound infatuation, he momentarily forgot about his mission to find Kelvin.

John's initial intention was to make an impression on the girl, but little did he know, she was a fellow mutant. She was secretly working with the Fanatics to locate Kelvin, and her true motive remained veiled beneath her captivating allure. Unbeknownst to John, he had stumbled upon love in the heart of Mexico, diverting him from his original mission.

The girl's enigmatic aura held John in its thrall. He made several attempts to engage her in conversation, but she remained silent. Even when he took her hand and pulled her closer, her mysterious persona remained concealed behind dark glasses. It was only when those glasses slipped, revealing eyes shimmering with a captivating shade of purple, that her true identity was unveiled.

Later, John held her hand and then drew her closer to him then the dark glasses she wore removed and fell. He then saw her real face; her eyes were shining purple.

John later understood that she was a mutant and then he asked her for the second time what her name was, she later replied John,

"Lyla."

"Wow, what a nice voice you have there," John said

He then begged her to show him her abilities then she told him that she would make people see and do whatever she wanted them to do. John then remembered that he was supposed to be tracking down Kelvin.

"What is wrong?"

Lyla asked,

"Did you use your powers on me?"

John angrily asked back.

"No, I will never."

Lyla cried out.

John's eyes became blaring red, he groaned as more changes appeared on his body. His hands stretched forward and suddenly fire came pouring out from them.

"If you ever lie to me again in your life, I will burn you to the ground.

Now, did you lie to me or not?"

He gritted out bitterly as he glared hard at her. She looked down in shame and linked her fingers together.

"Yes, I did and I am sorry."

She said accepting the facts and coming clean with him.

"Why will you do that?"

He asked.

Lyla started her story,

"I was sent by Fanatics. They arrested me and my sister. They tortured my sister and forced me to work for them, John. I had no choice but to work for them. They even inserted a tracking device in my leg and they watch all my movements. I do not have any choice!"

John rolled his eyes,

"So, is that why you betrayed me? and tricked me?"

John said the fire in his hand slowly stopping.

"They said they would kill my sister if I didn't do as I was told."

Lyla began crying and begging John.

He sighed

"Fine, I will help you. You have to trust me and believe me. Are you sure that is all?"

John asked her one last time and she immediately nodded.

He brought up a plan to use Kelvin as bait but Kelvin would be only on their side just to rescue Lyla's sister, Remove the tracking device from her leg, and run away.

Lyla immediately agreed to the plan.

While Lyla was tracking Kelvin, she found him in a nearby shop close to their hideout. He was drinking coffee. She decided to meet him to talk to him about the plan.

"Hey, Kelvin."

She said as she sat on the seat opposite him. Kelvin did not bother to raise his eyes from the newspaper.

"What do you want Lyla?"

"I need your help."

Lyla muttered.

"What would you like to order?"

Lyla looked up from Kelvin to the young waitress standing in front of her with a book and pen to take down her order.

"Cappuccino."

Lyla simply muttered and watched the waitress leave their front.

"I need your help."

"I am not ready to help anyone."

"Kelvin, please. I need to save my sister from the Fanatics and I need your help."

"No."

Kelvin said sipping his coffee. Lyla sighed at how stubborn Kelvin seemed to be. John who was watching their reactions decided to walk into the restaurant.

Lyla who became frustrated about the response Kelvin was giving her finally decided to use her powers on him, so that he could see what her little sister was going through at the hands of the Fanatics agents.

John who had walked in went to sit down by the table between the two of them.

Kelvin went through a journey of memories as he saw the phases of torture given to the little female mutant.

As he regained consciousness, he first saw John and asked

"Who is this?"

Lyla replied

"A friend who I found that is also willing to help me"

After much persuasion and memory traveling, Kelvin finally agreed to help Lyla and John.

Together the three of them devised a way to break into the Fanatics detention camp in Mexico as they also removed the tracking device that was in her leg. When the Fanatics agents discovered that the tracking device had been removed, they doubled their security at their camp.

While discussing the rescue plan, John then said

"We are not going to attack today because now that they have noticed that we removed the tracking device in Lyla's leg, they would double their security at their detention camp"

After two days, they went into action, Lyla dressed as a police officer bringing in two fugitives which were John and Kelvin. While she was at the counter, she made two Fanatics guards obey her every command, then they helped her to pass through the main gate, onto the mutant's detention cells.

As they were about to begin their search for Lyla's younger sister, they met Doctor Campbell; who was a doctor who had gotten a degree in studying and suppressing the x-gene in mutants.

He had just finished with a patient and was coming out of the wardroom when he met Lyla, John, and Kelvin.

"Who are you guys and what are you doing here"

Doctor Campbell said.

Lyla who had tried to use her powers on him found out that it couldn't work, Kelvin who had known much about mutants told them.

"Since Lyla's powers could not work on him, he must be a mutant whose abilities had surpassed ours".

Later on, Doctor Campbell suspected they were up to something, he tried to raise the alarm to inform the agents but was stopped and the last dose of the serum he used in suppressing mutant X-gene was used on him by John.

He began rolling on the floor, screaming in pain which made Kelvin hit the back of his head as he blacked out.

Lyla who wanted to kill him shouted

"I wish I could just end you, this beast who has no feelings when it comes to hurting people".

Kelvin grabbed Doctor Campbell and put him on his shoulders, after they then went on to Lyla's younger sister's cell, on arriving at her sister's cell, they found out that she was not there.

So, the three of them went on to check other cells in case she was there

John now found a room different from all other cells, he went in and switched on the light and saw some mutants lying on the bed. It turns out that place was Doctor Campbell's office and secret room where he tortured mutants and got rid of their powers.

In there, Lyla immediately sighted her sighted as she ran on to carry her.

Her sister the last patient whom Doctor Campbell had just finished experimenting on was still awake, she saw Lyla, tears rolling her eyes as she shouted

"Lyla!"

The whole team looked at where they heard the voice from as the whole room was wide and big which could contain over fifty mutants for experiments.

Lyla ran on to carry her sister

"I'm sorry Kayla, I should've been there for you but I wasn't, I know you would probably hate me all your life but I'm sorry".

Kayla then replied

"It's not your fault, you tried your best but the Fanatics still took me away from you, why would I hate you? You're my sister" as she continued crying.

"Hey Kayla, nice to meet you and all that but we have got to go now!"

Kelvin said as he became frustrated about how the family reunion was taking so long.

While the whole team planned on leaving, they found out that the alarm had been set off and the whole place would be on lockdown in the next five minutes as a result of a breach in that camp.

They never knew what caused the breach because they were not seen as they entered. So, they all started running out of the camp when they were in contact with the Mutant's Underground who were the cause of the lockdown.

John's eyes merged directly with Sophie's as they were running through, they had something in common unknown to him, she had gone to the base to rescue Mutants to become her minions.

Chapter 3 WELCOME TO THE TEAM 2

CHAPTER THREE: WELCOME TO THE TEAM 2

As we left the detention camp, we sprinted as fast as we could, knowing that Fanatics agents were hot on our trail. I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins as we ran, and I didn't dare look back to see how close they were. We needed to reach Kelvin's hideout in Mexico, and fast.

Finally, we arrived at Kelvin's sanctuary in Mexico. We all took a moment to catch our breath. Lyla hugged Kayla, tears welling up in her eyes, and reassured her, "Now that you're with me, no one will ever take you away from me, I promise."

Kelvin, visibly frustrated with the girls acting like children, stormed out of the room.

After a long and exhausting day, I stood up to address the group.

"My hometown is Brantford in the United States of America, and I suggest we all head there. I found a safe place for us to stay."

Everyone agreed except for Kelvin, who hesitated, saying

"I can't leave Mexico; this is my hometown."

Lyla chimed in, her voice strained with worry

"We're already fugitives, and the Fanatics agents won't stop coming after us. We've already declared wanted."

Kelvin replied with uncertainty,

"I'll think about it," and walked away.

I could see the conflict in Kelvin's eyes and decided to follow him to explain our situation.

As I entered Kelvin's room, I noticed numerous drawings of two people. Curious, I asked him

"Who are these people you keep drawing?"

Kelvin sighed and answered

"The man and woman in these pictures are my parents. The reason I'm hesitant to go back to Brantford is that they were killed there by Fanatics agents. Returning would bring back painful memories."

I tried to reason with him, "I understand your pain, but we're already wanted in Mexico. It's the only place we might have some freedom. If your parents were killed there, wouldn't it be better to stay alive and live up to their great reputation?"

As we discussed this, Lyla entered the room, overheard our conversation, and went to Kelvin, apologizing, "I'm sorry for pressuring you, but you could have explained your past. We're a team now."

After much persuasion from both me and Lyla, Kelvin finally agreed to join us. I took the initiative to obtain visas and passports, and soon it was time to leave Mexico for the USA.

At the airport, Fanatics agents were already waiting to check for mutants, so we disguised ourselves to board the plane. We spent four tense hours on our flight to the United States of America.

Upon our arrival, we faced a mutant attack sent by the Mutants Underground, leading to a fierce battle. James, an opponent with freeze and heat breath abilities, proved to be a formidable adversary. However, we managed to take him down and capture him.

Once at our new hideout, we discovered that all the mutants in the area had been killed, and the humans had been taken by Fanatics agents. Unbeknownst to us, the hideout was rigged with bombs, and as the explosions began, chaos erupted.

Amid the chaos, Lyla's younger sister, Kayla, fell. Kelvin, despite being badly injured, heroically rescued her. I rushed everyone to a motel room, where we treated our injuries.

As Doctor Campbell and James regained consciousness, Lyla used her powers to make them forget their past and obey our commands. They eventually joined our team.

While I left to find a new hideout, I encountered Thiago, who was aiding a mutant in need. I followed him, and after some persuasion, he allowed us to stay in the underground tunnel where he and other mutants resided. We offered to help protect and provide for the residents.

Reed, who was the same age as Kayla, became close to her and Lauren. Thiago, Kelvin, James, Lyla, and Doctor Campbell became our protectors and defenders of mutants and humans living in the underground tunnel.

During this time, Reed's powers began to manifest. One day, he experienced a power surge, and Doctor Campbell identified it as the first stage of his abilities. We knew we had to protect Reed, but also harness his potential for good.

Two hours later, Reed awoke, and Lauren and Kayla were by his side. They urged him to rest until he fully recovered. Confused, Reed asked about what had happened, not remembering the incident. Lyla explained the first stage of his powers had emerged, and Reed eagerly asked Lyla to train him. Lyla agreed, and Reed went to bed in anticipation of the training.

The next day, Reed had a troubling dream where he was captured and tortured by Fanatics agents. In his dream, he unleashed a new power. Worried about his development, Lauren took him to Doctor Campbell for another test, and he reassured us that Reed was simply in the early stages of his powers. We vowed to protect and train him, as we recognized his immense potential.

Reed woke up in the morning, he already breakfast on his bed as he saw Lauren and Kayla smiling, after then he greeted them, later on Lauren said

"Eat and Freshen up lightheaded training begins"

Lauren had started calling Reed lighthead ever since they discovered he inherited his Father's power which is the absorption and emission of light.

Reed then sat up to eat when Lyla, John, and Doctor Campbell came to meet him, Doctor Campbell quickly ran some minor tests on him to see if he was recovering, and the tests came out positive so Reed asked John where Kelvin and James were, then John told him that when they when to gather some little supplies for Underground
