Seraphina Pov
Blood was everywhere.
My body was stiff, pressed against the cold ground, my breaths shallow amidst the scent of iron and smoke. I knew I was the only one left.
The battle was over. No more screams, no more running-only the dead remained, and the whisper of the wind through the scorched trees.
Pain throbbed through me. My limbs were scratched by broken branches, and my tattered dress barely covered my frail body.
I tried to stay silent, invisible, but the sound of heavy footsteps made me freeze in place.
Something inside me screamed that I should run... but I couldn't.
Slowly, I lifted my head-and saw a man.
He was tall, imposing, standing amidst the corpses as if he were part of the destruction itself. His silver eyes reflected the dim moonlight, and his face bore no expression, as if the blood staining his black coat meant nothing to him.
A chill swept through my chest.
This was death... and it had finally come for me.
But I did not cry.
"Will... you kill me?"
My voice was weak, hoarse, barely audible over the wind.
The man did not answer immediately. Instead, he tilted his head slightly, as if my question was unexpected. His cold gaze swept over the scene before settling back on me.
He could kill me in an instant. I knew that.
But instead, he lowered himself onto one knee until his face was level with mine.
"What's your name?" he asked at last, his voice deep and rough-but not as frightening as I had expected.
I hesitated... I wasn't sure if I could trust him, but he didn't need my name to kill me.
"Seraphina."
My name escaped in a whisper, fragile, as if it could shatter at any moment.
His gaze shifted, something within him stirring-something I couldn't understand.
"Seraphina..." he repeated softly, then added, "You're with me now."
Before I could grasp his words, I found myself wrapped in his bloodstained coat, his strong arms lifting me off the ground as if I were the most precious thing amidst all this ruin.
I didn't know why he saved me...
But for the first time in a long while, I felt like I was no longer alone.
---
Inside the Castle
I had no idea where we were going, but the castle we entered was vast, dark, filled with shadows. I felt the chill of the stone beneath my bare feet as he set me down gently in the long corridors.
I was exhausted-so drained that I barely noticed when we reached a large room, where a boy sat on the bed, reading under the glow of a lamp.
The moment the man stepped inside, the boy lifted his head, his storm-gray eyes-identical to the man's-widening in surprise.
"Father... who is she?" the boy asked, his voice filled with surprise.
Father?
I turned to the man beside me... Was he this boy's father?
"This is Seraphina," he said firmly. "From now on, she will be your little sister."
Something inside me trembled. Sister?
The boy, whom the man called Liam, regarded me cautiously. I couldn't tell what he was thinking, but I didn't feel afraid of him.
"My sister?" he repeated softly, as if he couldn't believe it.
"Yes." The man's tone was absolute. "You will care for her and protect her as if she were your own blood."
Liam remained silent for a moment, then, suddenly, a faint smile crossed his lips. He extended his hand toward me.
"Hello, Seraphina."
I stared at his outstretched hand. I didn't know how to react... I had lost everything, and now, all of a sudden, I was being told that I had a new family?
But...
Slowly, I raised my hand and placed it in his. It wasn't warm, but it wasn't cold either... It was simply different.
"Hello," I whispered.
I saw the man standing, his gaze fixed on me with an expression I couldn't decipher.
"Seraphina." His voice was quiet yet powerful.
I lifted my head immediately.
"From this night forward, you are my beloved daughter."
Daughter?
A cold shock rippled through me. I didn't know how to process it. I had no one... No one had ever wanted me.
"I will always protect you."
Why?
I didn't understand why he said that, but when I felt his hand gently brush through my tangled hair-so softly, so unexpectedly-
For the first time in a long while, I felt like I belonged somewhere.
Yet deep inside, something else stirred... A strange feeling whispered that this was only the beginning... That my fate was about to change forever.
---
I didn't know how it happened, or when exactly it began, but I found myself becoming part of his world.
Dominic Blackwood... He wasn't just the terrifying man who had saved me from death-he had become everything to me.
At first, I watched him cautiously. I couldn't understand why he treated me this way. He wasn't my father, and I wasn't supposed to stay here. Yet, he never pushed me away, never left me alone. On the contrary... He was always there.
As the days passed... at night, he would sit beside me, his deep voice filling the room as he told me stories of kings and warriors, of wolves that feared nothing-not even the darkness. I would listen in silence, watching his expressions, feeling something I had never known before... safety.
I wasn't used to this feeling.
And every night, when he finished speaking, he would carry me in his arms and lay me in bed. But he never left. He never abandoned me in the dark. He would sit nearby, watching over me until I fell asleep. And sometimes... he would sleep beside me, holding me close, as if I were something precious-something he was afraid to lose.
Sometimes, it felt like a dream.
How could a man like him-a ruthless killer-be the one to comb my hair every morning? How could he be the one to choose my clothes, to ensure I was comfortable?
I would stare at my reflection in the mirror and whisper to myself, "Is this real?"
Dominic stood behind me, carefully holding a hairbrush, his brows furrowed as if handling something delicate. When he heard my words, our eyes met in the mirror.
"It's real," he said with certainty. "And you are real... You will stay with me, always."
He no longer sleeps in his wing, and this greatly upset the Luna of the pack. By the way, she is the Luna, not his wife. Liam's mother passed away, and the Alpha replaced her with her sister to take on the role of Luna and care for Liam. However, he never loved her, despite her repeated attempts to get close to him.
When I arrived and he began to show me attention, her resentment toward me deepened. But Dominic never allowed her to come near me. Even Liam started to grow jealous of me, sometimes going out of his way to hurt me. Yet Dominic's presence was the remedy for every wound.
I could endure all the pain, hatred, and anger-just to stay by his side.
I could endure the malice, the resentment, the anger-so long as I could stay by his side.
Every night, I felt his presence, whether he was sitting in the nearby chair, watching over me in silence, or lying beside me when I stirred restlessly in my sleep.
I never had to ask him to stay... because he did so without question.
And when he pulled me into his embrace, I would bury my face in the warmth of his black coat, listening to the steady rhythm of his breathing, feeling safe for the first time in my life.
The world outside was filled with chaos, wars, and bloodshed...
But inside this room, in these moments-
There was only Dominic Blackwood and me.
And that was enough.
Seraphina's POV
Seven years had passed...
I had grown, changed, and become a woman in the eyes of everyone. But in his eyes, I was still the little girl he had found amidst the ruins.
I knew something had changed in Dominic Blackwood. He no longer looked at me the way he once did. He no longer treated me the same. Instead, he had become more hesitant, more silent-like he was trying to escape something beyond his control.
But I wasn't ready to let him go.
-
The room was dark, the dim candlelight casting flickering shadows on the stone walls. The cold seeping through the large windows had no effect on me... because I was in his arms.
As I had for years, I slept beside him, enveloped in the warmth of his powerful body, breathing in the scent of his ever-present black coat. I had thought this habit would never change-until he whispered my name, his voice low, hesitant.
"Seraphina..."
I slowly opened my eyes, lifting my head to look at him. He was awake, his silver eyes fixed on the ceiling, burdened with an unspoken weight.
"What's wrong?" I murmured sleepily, nuzzling into his neck.
I felt his body tense for a moment before he exhaled slowly, his hand trailing down my back with a hesitancy I wasn't used to.
"You've grown, Seraphina."
I froze.
"I know."
He lifted his hand, threading his fingers through my long hair, but his touch was different this time-more careful, more uncertain.
"I need to return to my wing tonight. From now on, you must sleep alone."
I shot up, my eyes gleaming in the darkness as I stared at him in disbelief. "Why?"
"Because you're no longer a child, Seraphina." His voice was quiet but firm. "You need your own space."
"But I don't want to sleep alone." I clung to him tighter, burying my face in his neck, inhaling the familiar scent of sandalwood and blood that had become a part of him.
Dominic Blackwood was my world, my only refuge...
How could he expect me to accept his distance?
"Seraphina..." He whispered my name again, but this time, his voice was firmer. "We need to stop this. It's no longer appropriate."
I slowly lifted my head, gazing at him-at the sharp, defined features sculpted by the moonlight streaming through the window.
"Do you hate me now?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, laced with a tremor I couldn't suppress.
For a fleeting moment, shock flickered in his silver eyes, but he masked it just as quickly.
"Of course not."
"Then why are you trying to push me away?"
A silence settled between us before he reached out, brushing his thumb gently over my forehead in slow, circular motions.
"Because you've grown into a woman, Seraphina," he murmured. "It's no longer acceptable for me to sleep beside you every night, to change your clothes myself..." He hesitated, his words weighing heavily on him. Then, after a brief pause, he added, "Or to walk into your bath to help you as I used to."
A strange heat rushed to my face, but I refused to let him go.
"I don't want anything to change between us," I whispered, clutching the fabric of his shirt tightly.
He exhaled slowly, as if trying to steady himself. "Seraphina, this isn't about what we want. It's about what must be done."
A dull ache formed in my chest. No, I wasn't ready for this... I wasn't ready to accept that he no longer saw me the way I wanted him to.
I clung to him tighter, lifting my gaze to his. My voice trembled with a desperate plea.
"Please, Daddy... don't leave me."
I saw it-the shift in his expression. His eyes darkened, filled with an unsettling depth, as if he were seeing something he never wanted to acknowledge.
Something inside him stirred. Something he didn't understand... or perhaps refused to.
His fingers threaded through my hair, his touch slower, more hesitant, as if he were trying to comprehend the feeling creeping into his soul.
But I didn't need his words.
I felt it.
I felt the change he was trying so hard to deny.
And I saw the battle in his eyes-the war between the man he had always been and the emotions he was beginning to feel toward me.
And for some reason... I was no longer afraid of it.
---
I never knew my bed could be this cold.
Ever since Dominic Blackwood made his decision and returned to his quarters, my bed had turned to ice. The heavy blankets did nothing to replace his absence. I wasn't used to sleeping alone. I never wanted him to leave me in the first place.
But he did.
And now, he sleeps in his room, and perhaps one day, he will accept her as his wife. After all, she is already the Luna of the pack, and Dominic will be her husband. Sooner or later, he will do what any married man is expected to do.
I told myself repeatedly that this was normal... that this was how things were supposed to be from the very beginning.
But it wasn't normal to me. It wasn't fair.
Maybe all I ever wanted was for Dominic to stay by my side, to be mine alone.
But as long as he was happy, I... I would accept it.
Even if it burned me alive.
---
In the following days, Liam started getting closer to me.
I didn't like it.
Liam had always been arrogant, controlling, ruthless in a way I never appreciated. He was nothing like Dominic Blackwood, despite being his son. He lacked his father's patience, his quiet, enigmatic presence. Instead, he was cocky, walking as if he owned the world, as if he had the right to touch anything he desired.
And that was what disturbed me the most.
I couldn't stand the way his eyes lingered on me, bold and unashamed.
I couldn't stand how he stood too close, how his touches sometimes crossed a line-playful but deliberate, as if he wasn't doing anything wrong.
No one dared to touch me.
No one except Dominic Blackwood.
But... what could I do?
In the end, I was just an orphan-a girl Dominic had taken in. And Liam was his son.
I had no right to object... right?
---
That night, everyone gathered around the grand dining table.
The atmosphere was heavier than usual. Conversations, laughter, the scent of roasted meat filling the air-none of it was enough to mask the suffocating tension creeping into the room.
As expected, Luna didn't miss the chance to glare at me, her eyes burning with hostility, as if I were an unwelcome intruder in her home.
But this time, she didn't stop at just glaring.
This time, she decided to make it official.
"Seraphina," she called my name in a voice that was soft, yet carried something ominous.
Something that made my instincts scream before she even spoke her next words.
Slowly, I lifted my gaze-only to find her smiling.
But it wasn't a real smile.
"You've grown," she said, tilting her head slightly, her tone laced with false sweetness. "Dominic told me you're a young woman now."
Why did those words send a chill down my spine?
My eyes darted instinctively to Dominic Blackwood, searching for something-anything in his expression.
But he remained still. Silent.
As if none of this mattered to him.
My fingers turned cold.
"And because we want you to always be part of our family..." Luna continued, reaching for Liam's hand beside her. "Liam has decided to take you as his fiancée."
The air was sucked from my lungs.
"And next year, once your wolf emerges, the wedding will take place."
I felt like I was dying.
Why?
Why Liam?
Why did I have to be his?
My gaze shot back to Dominic, searching, hoping for something-anything.
But all I found was silence.
He didn't object.
He didn't react.
He did nothing... as if it didn't concern him at all.
I should have refused.
I should have screamed, run away, told them I didn't want Liam, that I despised him, that he made my skin crawl every time he got too close.
But I didn't.
Because, despite everything...
If marrying Liam was the only way to stay close to Dominic Blackwood...
Then I would accept it.
Seraphina's POV
I was officially Liam's fiancée.
I had no idea that a mere title could build a wall between me and Dominic Blackwood-a cold, unyielding wall I could not break through no matter how hard I tried.
He began ignoring me... deliberately.
I didn't know why, but he was no longer the same. He no longer spent time with me, no longer came to my room to check on me before bed, no longer barged into my bathroom to drag me out when I took too long. He was no longer the Dominic I knew.
The last conversation we had still lingered in my memory.
That day, he stood before me, carrying the same aura of strength and dominance that had always made me feel safe. But this time... his eyes held something different, something I couldn't fully understand.
"Are you sure about your decision?"
He asked in a low voice, as if my answer would determine something crucial for him.
"No one can force you into this marriage, Seraphina. If you don't want it, just say so."
But I said what I never should have said.
"I love Liam."
I lied.
But it was a necessary lie.
Because I couldn't tell the truth. I couldn't admit that I had agreed only to stay close to him, only to remain under his shadow-even if he no longer looked at me the same way.
The moment I uttered those words, I saw something shift in Dominic.
Something extinguished.
And from that day on... he was never the same.
He no longer asked about my day, no longer sat with me as he used to, no longer teased me with his casual touches or forced me to eat my meals.
All that remained was a cold, distant formality:
"Are you okay?"
"Do you need anything?"
"How is your relationship with Liam?"
"I hope you have a happy new life."
A happy new life?
How could I be happy when he was no longer a part of it?
But Dominic wasn't the only one who changed.
I did too.
I became quieter, colder-as if I were living in a body without a soul.
Yet, I noticed it...
I noticed how his smile faded.
I noticed how he grew silent, how he no longer smiled the way he once did.
And I-
I no longer smiled either.
But what could I do?
---
I had thought Liam was merely an arrogant, self-centered man.
But I was wrong.
He was worse than I had imagined-more brutal, more ruthless.
He wasn't just cruel in words or looks. He was cruel... to my body.
For long, endless nights, I felt like nothing more than an object to him, a means to satisfy his desires. He didn't care if I cried. He didn't care if I begged him to stop. He took everything he wanted from me... except for my virginity.
And even that-I felt it was only a matter of time before he took it too.
"Don't pretend to be innocent, Seraphina."
He whispered one night, his hands gripping me as my body trembled.
"You belong to me. You'll be my wife soon, so don't resist what's coming."
But I wasn't his. I wasn't anyone's.
Yet, I had no choice.
Every time I resisted, he became more violent.
At first, it was just threats, but over time... I learned what real pain was.
The first blows weren't the worst. But with time, I learned to expect them.
A punch here. A slap there. My wrists twisted so hard I screamed in pain. My legs trembling from the force of his kicks. Scars that refused to fade.
He destroyed my body.
Every time I looked in the mirror, I saw his marks carved into my skin. I was nothing but a canvas for his cruelty.
At first, I wanted to tell Dominic Blackwood.
A small voice inside me screamed for help, begged me to tell him, to let him protect me the way he always had.
But I remained silent.
Why?
Because Dominic was no longer Dominic.
He was no longer the man who held me when I cried. No longer the man whose touch alone made me feel safe.
He had left me.
And if he had already abandoned me... would he even care if I told him?
---
One night, I couldn't bear it any longer.
I stepped out of my room, my bare feet against the cold floor. I was trembling-but not from the cold.
I stopped in front of his door.
For a moment, I hesitated. I raised my hand to knock-but I froze.
From the other side, I heard his footsteps. Then, a soft sound... a long, heavy sigh.
I stood there, torn between knocking and walking away.
But I couldn't move.
"Daddy..."
The word slipped from my lips before I even realized it.
I flinched, as if I had committed a sin.
And suddenly-
The door opened.
Dominic stood before me, half-naked, his hair disheveled, his features exhausted. He stared at me for a long moment, his eyes empty, cold.
But there was something else... something that nearly shattered me.
When I saw Luna Sofia is wearing a little lighter clothes, it seems that she is trying to seduce him, trying to restore him after she won and went from my room. while he stood there, bare-chested, I staggered back.
He said nothing. He didn't ask why I stood at his door in the middle of the night.
So, with trembling lips, I forced out the words, "Sorry for disturbing you. Go back to bed."
Then, I turned and walked away, my tears falling freely.
I felt like I was dying.
I left with tears streaming down my face, feeling as if I were dying. I wanted to run far away. But if I fled, I would be leaving Dominic Blackwood forever.
And now, he has replaced me with that woman. It should have been me there, not her. Perhaps he has already kissed her, and soon he will marry her-she will have him completely!
