"Martin, you've suffered all these years. Don't worry, I'll will make it up to you." Morgan said as he took out a bank card and handed it to Martin. "You have a million dollars in that card, Martin. Use it as your pocket money." Morgan smiled. "If that's not enough, you can just tell me." "A million dollars?!" Martin shouted as his hands trembled. After all, Martin never expected that Morgan would say that a million dollars is just 'pocket money' Morgan naturally saw what Martin was astonished about and laughed. "A million dollars is a small amount of money for me, Martin." Morgan then slipped the card into Martin's hand. "Besides, I want to give you my business in C City." "W-what do you mean? I'm still in college. I could never handle such a large business like yours." Martin retorted. "You don't need to have experience in running a business, Martin. I just need you to be the new chairman and track all the sales. You can also use the money as much as you want, if that helps." Morgan told him. Martin simply nodded. A glimmer of hope was evident in his eyes as he realized the importance of money and status. Martin suddenly remembered that Jessie, who had just broken up with him, worked as a receptionist in the Gold Group. And the fact that he was about to become a chairman of the same company Jessie worked for made him ecstatic. He was definitely looking forward for a new beginning.

Chapter 1 A New Beginning

In front of the gold building in C City, Martin James stood at the door with a smile evident on his face and two movie tickets in hand.

Just as Martin was about to enter, a man and a woman came out of the building. The man wore a suit and there was a BMW car key pinned on his waist. The woman, however, had a good figure and was very attractive.

The woman seemed familiar to Martin, so he decided to call her out.

"Jessie!" Martin said as he greeted the woman with a smile.

When the woman saw Martin, her face suddenly changed to a look of shock.

"M-Martin? What are you doing here? I told you not to come! It'd be embarrassing if my colleagues saw me like this." Jessie said, looking unhappy about the fact that Martin was standing in front of her.

"Jessie, today's our second anniversary, remember? I even bought tickets so we could go to the movies together." Martin smiled at he handed over the movie tickets to Jessie.

The man beside Jessie, who was Rudolf Joseph, frowned as he saw Martin handing over the movie tickets. "Jessie, you said that you didn't have a boyfriend, right?"

"Rudolf, I-I can explain."

Rudolf couldn't help but look at Martin with disdain. "I mean, look at him, Jessie! He's obviously a loser who can't afford anything. Why're you even with this man?"

Jessie felt humiliated. She didn't want Martin to go where she worked because she was afraid that people would see her as a loser as well.

Martin felt as if Jessie was just being manipulated, so he decided to reach out to her and pull her away from Rudolf. "Jessie, let's get out of here."

"Let go of my hand, Martin!" Jessie said as she pushed Martin's hand away. "Rudolf's right about you being a loser. Have you ever bought me the stuff I wanted to buy?"

"Jessie, I know I'm poor, but I swear I'll work hard and pour all my hard work into the things you want to buy!" Martin said as he clenched his teeth.

"Work hard? What a joke!" Jessie sneered. "Even if you work hard all your life, I doubt that you'll be nearly as rich as Rudolf!"

"I'm obviously more superior than you could ever be, Martin." Rudolf sneered as well.

"Martin, I just want to make things clear." Jessie told Martin with a stern look. "You don't deserve me at all, so I want to break up with you."

All of a sudden, Jessie turned to Rudolf and smiled. "Rudolf, let's go."

With that, Jessie took the initiative and held Rudolf's arm.

Rudolf couldn't help but smile at his so-called 'achievement'. He then got into the car alongside Jessie, which was not too far from where they were standing a minute ago.

Meanwhile, Martin simply felt useless.

He felt like his heart was torn into pieces and he couldn't do anything about it.

Martin then clenched his fists in anger as he reminisced the time when he met Jessie.

Martin met Jessie in high school. When they graduated from their third year, it was then that they confirmed their relationship. At that time, Jessie was a simple person.

After graduation, Martin was admitted to a local university. Meanwhile, Jessie wasn't admitted to the university she wanted, so she decided to get a job. Since then, Jessie gradually changed. She became a materialistic person and worshipped money as if she would die without it.

Martin decided not to let Jessie stay because there wasn't any point. She wouldn't stay just because Martin asked her to.

After all, he was a loser in Jessie's eyes now.

"Jessie, you look down on me now, but I swear I'll make you regret it." Martin said as he kept clenching is fists in anger. "I'll even surpass Rudolf one day, just you wait and see."

Meanwhile, in Shantytown, C City, people who lived here were considered as 'losers' or 'poor people'.

On the way home, Martin thought about making money. However, he had no idea how to make a lot of it. His family was poor, after all. Thus, it was going to be hard for him to make a lot of money in just a single day.

Society wasn't as fair as it seemed to be. Even if he worked hard enough, he probably wouldn't be able to get as rich as Rudolf.

As soon as Martin arrived at home, he saw a Bentley parked in front of his house, which made him bewildered. He then immediately quickened his pace and opened the door.

After entering the door, Martin found another person aside from his mom. There was a mysterious man wearing a suit and he certainly didn't look like an ordinary person.

"Grandson!" The man said as he smiled at Martin.

That sentence alone immediately confused Martin and he looked at his mom.

"Mom...What the heck is going on?" He told her with a bewildered look on his face.

Martin's mother had never told him the truth. She told him that his grandfather and grandmother already passed away, so Martin himself never met his grandparents.

She sighed. "Martin, I've been lying to you for all these years. I'm sorry about that. I ran away from your grandfather and eloped with your father."

The sudden news suddenly made Martin dizzy. He never expected anything from his grandparents and yet his grandfather suddenly came to their home.

"Martin, go greet your grandfather, now. His name is Morgan Gracie, by the way." Martin's mother added.

Martin's face suddenly twitched. He had heard that name before. After all, Morgan Gracie was the richest man in California. Not to mention, he was a famous celebrity because he was the one who made the Gold Group company.

"Are you truly Morgan Gracie who's the chairman of Gold Group?" Martin said as he simply stared at Morgan.

"That's right, Martin!" Morgan said as he came forward with a smile on his face.

Martin took a step back.

"How could you just abandon my mother like that?! She already lived a hard life. How could you do that to your own daughter?!" Martin shouted angrily.

Martin witnessed how his mother suffered alone. His father died early and their lives could have been better if his grandfather helped them.

"Martin, I've sent money to your mother many times, but she's stubborn and won't even let me see you. In fact, I've wanted to recognize you as my grandson for a long time, but your mother wouldn't let me." Morgan said helplessly.

"Mom, is he telling the truth?" Martin said as he looked at his mother.

Martin's mother nodded. "He's right, Martin. But I've come to terms with this and I can't let my mistakes ruin your life anymore. I hope you can accept him."

"Martin!" Morgan said as he hugged Martin.

This time, Martin didn't struggle.

"Martin, you've suffered all these years. Don't worry, I'll will make it up to you." Morgan said as he took out a bank card and handed it to Martin.

"You have a million dollars in that card, Martin. Use it as your pocket money." Morgan smiled. "If that's not enough, you can just tell me."

"A million dollars?!" Martin shouted as his hands trembled.

After all, Martin never expected that Morgan would say that a million dollars is just 'pocket money'

Morgan naturally saw what Martin was astonished about and laughed. "A million dollars is a small amount of money for me, Martin."

Morgan then slipped the card into Martin's hand. "Besides, I want to give you my business in C City."

"W-what do you mean?

Chapter 2 The New Chairman

"As long as you agree to be the new chairman, I'll arrange everything for you. How's that, Martin?" Morgan said with a smile.

"I'm in!" Martin nodded as he smiled back.

When Morgan saw Martin's smile, he immediately knew that Martin accepted him as his grandfather and this made Morgan happy.

Morgan then pat Martin's shoulder. "Once you graduate college, I'll make you the future heir of the Gold Group company."

After a few minutes, Morgan said that he still had a lot of things to do so he had to rush back. He also told Martin that he shouldn't hesitate to ask him if he needed anything else.

And with that, Morgan left in a blink of an eye.

"I can't believe I became Morgan's grandson. Not to mention, I'm going to become the heir of the Gold Group company." Martin murmured to himself as if he couldn't believe it.

He then looked at the bank card that Morgan gave him and swore to himself that he'd take revenge on every single person who looked down at him.

After Morgan went out, the secretary immediately followed behind him. "Mr. Gracie, I don't think it's a good idea to give the young master the position of a chairman when he doesn't even know anything about running a company."

"It's a test, don't worry. If he acts like a spoiled brat, then I'll have no choice but to expel him myself." Morgan replied.

He knew that the company wasn't hard to actually run. After all, the company had professional managers and executives running the company already. He simply just needed someone to look after them.

And he thought that Martin fit the job perfectly.

"What if the young master can increase the profits though?" The secretary said.

"Of course, That's better. But I doubt that'll happen." Morgan said as he shook his head.

Morgan never expected Martin to do better than him. After all, he just needed to behave himself and look after the company for him. If he managed to do that, then he'd be the rightful heir to the Gold Group company.

However, Morgan also never expected that Martin would exceed his expectations.

At eight o'clock the next morning, all the staff heard the astonishing news and more than a hundred employees lined up outside the company. Warner Joseph stood as the general manager in front of the line. The same goes for Michel Bess as he stood as the deputy general manager.

Meanwhile, standing in the second row were the five department managers, including the Rudolf Joseph, who was the person that took Martin's girlfriend.

The rest of the managers and employees lined up neatly so they could celebrate the new chairman's arrival.

"I don't know who this new chairman is, but he suddenly made his way onto the board!" An employee said.

"If that's the case, then he must be really rich." Another employee said as she snickered.

At that time, Jessie was mixed in with the employees and she giggled. "As far as I know, the new chairman is one of Mr. Gracie's relatives."

"A relative of Mr. Gracie?!"

"Are you sure about that, Jessie?"

"Of course, I am! After all, Rudolf told me about it. He wouldn't lie to me." Jessie said triumphantly.

For a while, every single employee asked about Jessie's relationship with Rudolf and that made her happy. She then concluded that it was a wise choice to break up with Martin because she thought that he truly was a poor loser.

If she hadn't done that, no one would pay attention to her.

All of a sudden, Martin appeared. This made Jessie and Rudolf frown in disgust.

"What is he doing here?!" Jessie murmured to herself.

Rudolf then stood in front of Martin and blocked his way. "Hey, Loser. What the heck are you doing here? I thought we talked about this. We have something important to celebrate today and I don't have time to argue with you, so get out of here!" Rudolf shouted as he grabbed everyone's attention.

"Don't you know how to shut up, Rudolf?" Martin said as he glared at Rudolf.

"You're telling me to shut up?" Rudolf said as he laughed hysterically. "You're just jealous that Jessie picked me to be her boyfriend."

At this time, Jessie ran over to where Rudolf and Martin were.

"What a coincidence, Jessie. We meet again." Martin said, smiling at Jessie.

"Martin, didn't I tell you that I wanted to break up with you?! I can't date a loser like you anymore!" Jessie said as she frowned.

"Jessie, I'm not here to get back together with you. All in honesty, even if you beg me to be with you again, I'll never do that." Martin said as he sneered at Jessie.

"Wait, you want me to beg for you?" Jessie laughed. "Are you serious? I would never do that! Not with a poor loser like you!"

When Warner saw everything, he sighed and decided to stop Rudolf and Jessie's nonsense. "Son, who is this guy? Do you even know what day it is? If the new chairman sees this, he'll be furious!"

"Dad, he's nobody. I'm just asking him to leave immediately." Rudolf said with a smile. After that, he looked at Martin then glared at him. "Either you get out here yourself or I'll ask the security to make you leave."

"To tell you the truth Rudolf, I'm the new chairman here. You can't just kick me out."

"Wait, what? You're the new chairman? What a joke!" Rudolf said as he burst into laughter once again.

Even the employees couldn't help but cover their mouths and laugh. Martin was dressed like a normal college student and there was no way he could be the chairman.

Jessie felt embarrassed. "Martin, would you just stop humiliating yourself already? You look like trash. I doubt that anyone would ever believe that you're the chairman."

"But really am the new chairman." Martin retorted.

"Who do you even think you are, Martin? This is exactly why I broke up with you." Jessie scoffed.

"Security! Get this kid out of here right now!" Rudolf said as he called the security guards directly.

All of a sudden, more than a dozen security guards ran over to where Martin was. However, just as they were about to kick Martin out, a Bentley came slowly.

It was the same Bentley that Martin saw in front of his home yesterday.

"Look at that car! That must be the new chairman!" The employees said one after another.

General Manager Warner simply smiled as soon as he saw the car and shouted. "Everybody, get ready to greet the new chairman!"

"Martin, didn't you say that you were the chairman? I think all you did was give us false hope. I mean, look at the car the new chairman is in!" Jessie said as she laughed.

"Yeah, Sure." Martin smirked.

As soon as Martin looked at the car, a middle-aged man came out.

Martin recognized the man immediately. He was the one who was following his grandfather yesterday and he seemed to be Morgan's secretary.

"Secretary Jeremy, why're you the only one here? Where's the new chairman?" Warner said, bewildered.

"The new chairman just arrived. Haven't you seen him?" Jeremy said.

"I... don't see him anywhere."

Jeremy simply sighed. He then looked around and his eyes fell on Martin. Jeremy hurriedly went to him and Warner followed after Jeremy even when he didn't know what was going on.

When Jeremy reached where Martin was, he bowed immediately. "Young master, I'm sorry I'm late."

Chapter 3 Thick and Thin

All the employees were stunned when they saw Jeremy bowing down to Martin. This also made Jessie and Rudolf's jaw drop.

After Jeremy did what he did, he immediately looked at Rudolf.

"Manager Warner Joseph, this is the new chairman. What are you waiting for?" Jeremy said with a glare.

"Hold on...He's the new chairman?" Warner asked as he turned pale.

"Is he really the chairman?!" All the employees said as they looked at Martin dumbfoundedly.

Rudolf simply couldn't come to terms with what he was witnessing right now and widened his eyes in surprise.

"No! That's impossible! He's just a loser! he can't be the new chairman!" Jessie sneered. "I knew him back when we were high school. I know his family background, so that's impossible!"

Warner was in shock. "Secretary Jeremy, maybe you made a mistake? It doesn't look like he'd be a good chairman."

"Manager Warner Joseph, here are the formalities. See for yourself." Jeremy sighed as he gave Rudolf the papers needed for them to understand that Martin really was the chairman. "If you still don't believe it, you can call Mr. Gracie for confirmation."

When Warner took a closer look, he saw that Martin really was the chairman.

However, he couldn't do anything about it now.

Jeremy then faced the employees of the Gold Group company. "Master Martin is the biological grandson of Mr. Morgan Gracie. If you won't accept that, then I'm afraid you have to leave Gold Group at once!"

The sudden news hit everyone hard and they simply didn't know what to say.

"Y-you're the grandson of Mr. Gracie?" Rudolf said as his face turned pale. He couldn't possibly imagine the consequences if Morgan knew that he robbed Martin's girlfriend.

"That's impossible! Martin, stop playing around right now. This isn't funny!" Jessie shouted as she stared at Martin. She couldn't believe it

Just as Jessie stopped shouting, Warner immediately went in front of Martin and smiled at him "Chairman, the other employees hadn't recognized you yet, but I assure you that things will go smoothly if you're here!"

Martin simply ignored Warner and looked at all the other employees. He saw that they bowed their heads and kept silent.

When Martin's eyes saw Rudolf, he immediately went to him. Rudolf was frightened as soon as he saw Martin coming towards him and started sweating profusely.

As soon as Martin came towards Rudolf, Rudolf hugged Martin's thighs. "C-Chairman, I was wrong! I shouldn't have robbed your girlfriend. I'll give back Jessie if you want! Just please, don't hurt me!"

Martin never dreamed of someone superior kneeling down in front of him and beg for mercy. However, he'd be lying if he said that it didn't feel good.

"Give her back to me? Don't joke around, Rudolf. I don't need a bitch to love me just for my money." Martin said angrily. "Besides, do you really think I'll spare you?"

With that, Martin kicked Rudolf away.

"Chairman, I'm sure my son didn't mean to do it." Warner said as he tried to intercede for Rudolf.

Martin simply glared at Warner. "Don't even try and protect him. I've seen everything yesterday and he wouldn't even be like that if you hadn't taught him such a disgusting attitude."

All of a sudden, Martin shouted. "As the new chairman, I'll expel both of you from this company."

Warner's face turned completely pale. He had worked hard for years so he could be a general manager.

And now that he was getting fired by Martin as the chairman of the company, all his hard work would be in vain.

Warner wanted to tell Martin and explain himself, but he didn't have the courage to.

After all, he didn't want to oppose Mr. Gracie's grandson.

"Security, I want all of you to kick out both of them right now!" Martin said as he waved his hand.

More than a dozen of security guards looked at each other and hesitated. Warner had been in the company for years and he was obviously well-known.

However, Martin frowned at them. "What's the matter? Are you opposing me?"

Just then, the security guards decided that they'd follow Martin's orders. Because if they didn't, they wouldn't be able to maintain their job either.

They all grabbed Warner and Rudolf without hesitation and tried to throw them out.

"You assholes! Get off me!" Rudolf shouted.

"You and your father have been fired already! You can't be in this company anymore!" One of the security guards said.

Rudolf's lips trembled with anger. He couldn't believe he got humiliated by mere guards.

Meanwhile, Warner was calm. He was angry, but he knew that he couldn't oppose Martin as the new chairman.

The guards then threw Rudolf and Warner on the side of the street and left them there.

Many employees witnessed the commotion, but they didn't say a word. Martin's decision was in their favor, after all.

They despised Rudolf and Warner and they were happy that the Joseph family wouldn't have anything to do with the Gold Group company anymore.

Martin then walked towards Jessie slowly.

This time, Jessie was the one who turned pale. She never thought that Rudolf would be expelled the same day that the new chairman arrived.

She also never expected that Martin would be the new chairman and at the same time, the grandson of Morgan Gracie.

"Martin, it's impossible that you became Mr. Gracie's grandson. If you were really biologically related to him, I would've known!" Jessie said, trembling in fear.

"I thought the same thing, Jessie. I never expected that I would be the grandson of the richest man in the world" Martin smiled.

Jessie bit her lip. "M-Martin, I was deceived by Rudolf's sweet words. In fact, I-I wanted to apologize to you. Would you please give me a chance?"

Martin simply laughed. "Sorry, Jessie. We're over. I don't need you in my life anymore." He then pushed Jessie away and walked towards Michael Bess, who was the deputy general manager.

Michael almost stumbled when Martin went towards him. "C-Chairman, I'm not like Warner at all! Please don't fire me!" He pleaded.

Martin smiled at Michael. "I'm not here to fire you, Michael. I'm here to give you a promotion."

"W-Wait, really?" Michael said in bewilderment. Martin simply nodded.

When Martin said that he'd be the new chairman, he wanted to find out what was going on inside the company, so he hired a spy.

It turned out that Michael had been degraded by Warner and he always took the blame even when he did nothing wrong.

Because of this, Martin decided to promote him. After all, the spy he hired said that Michael was a good person, so he gave him a hand and let Michael do all the necessary work without Warner degrading him.

"Thank you so much, Chairman! I'll remember this promotion for the rest of my life. You don't know how much this means to me!" Michael shouted in excitement. He wanted to kneel in front of Martin, but Martin stopped him.

"You don't have to thank me. Just be sure to do a good job in the future. If you can do that for me, then I'll be able to promote you again." Martin said with a smile.

"Thank you so much. I'll be sure to do my best." Michael said as his tears began to form in his eyes.

It was at that moment that Michael realized that Martin was a noble man. He was willing to go through thick and think for Martin, no matter what the cost.
