Chapter 1 A day like this

Ciara was in the large living room, performing her usual finger magic on her system's keyboard, with her gaze fixated on its screen.

She did not notice the man who had just entered, or maybe she did notice him but decided not to acknowledged his presence and continued with her work.

The man stared at her for quite a moment, his intense gaze seems like it was piercing deeply into her skin. He said nothing nor move away from his position.

Ciara felt the gaze was too intense and heating her up. "What is it?" She suddenly asked, still not sparing him a glance. "You are staring too much, it's creepy, and it's making my skin to crawl."

He scoffs at her words as he finds them offensive. "Your skin to crawl, eh?" He repeated huskily, with a trail of mock in his voice. "I see..."

Ciara wanted to ignore his presence, but she just could not, no matter how much she tried to. "Did you have anything you want to say?" She muttered in questioning, her voice far from friendly, giving him a quick glance. "Or maybe, you just decide to stand, hovering over me for no reason?"

"And what if, eh?" He replied nonchalantly with a question instead, probably he intended to anger her.

"Well, your presence is distracting, yeah. As you can see, I'm busy here. I'll need no interruption, Ryan -not even from you." She told him plainly, her choice of tone saying it all. "You know what that means, don't you?"

The guy, whose name turns out to be Ryan, laughed lightly. "Ah, yeah. Of course..." He nodded his head curtly. "I do, you don't need to say much. Alright?"

"If you can excuse me, then..." She said in a drawling tone, expecting him to excuse her, as she has expected.

"I'm afraid I can't." His voice was plain and as well as still as water too.

Ciara suddenly raised her head up. "You can't, eh?" She felt the mock in his voice, her gaze now fixated on him. "Why -?"

She couldn't help but wonder why he likes taunting her, can't he just let her breath normal -even if it's just for a day?

For the past few months, she had thought she would adapt to his nonchalant attitude and get use to him as the day rolls by, but soon, she was forced to realize her thoughts were nothing but mirage.

This man -he would never stop getting on her nerves. This minutes, he would treat her like she never exists and the next minute, he would be on her neck.

After a few seconds of silence, he managed to break the silence with his cold voice. "Wait here, I'll be right back." He told her.

Ciara felt the coldness in his voice hit her in the guts, and before she could reply to him, he was out of her sight, already racing through the stair.

"Arrgh...!" A soft groaned escaped her throat as she clenched her fist in a tight ball. She was pissed off, but she managed to control it, calming herself mentally.

She breathed in slowly before returning her attention to her system. Barely ten minutes had passed before Ryan returned and with him was a file he was holding.

"Have it..." He muttered as he stretched it towards her, but before she could figure out what he's stretching towards her, he dropped it on her system's keyboard, a heavy clapping sound erupted.

Ciara was burning red. "What the..."

Ryan interrupted her abruptly, giving her no chance to complete her words. "Go through it, woman." His husky voice sounded like he was commanding her.

Her heart clenched tightly at how he addressed her -woman. Is he not supposed to be more formal, even if he would only address her by her name?

This was because she's not just any random woman, she is his wife -his contracted wife at that. She could not even recall the last time she heard his name from his lips.

Yeah, they might not be bind by love but only papers, Ciara's ears still ache to hear him call her by name, but that day won't just come -never!

Sucking her heavy breath in, she managed to let words escape her throat. "What's in there?" She muttered in questioning, not acknowledging the document on her system.

"I believe you are a literate woman. You can read, can't you?" His rhetorical question was nonchalant and he sounded really rude.

He is really succeeding in pissing her off, he really is. Ciara, who did not want to do as he had commanded her, but she finds herself unconsciously picking the document.

She couldn't help but wonder what's inside as she slowly open it, ready to feed her curiosity. Steadily, she ran her eyes through the content in the document.

Her eyes suddenly widen in shock -no, the shock is an understatement to what she felt at the moment. Her breath seized almost instantly, unable to comprehend its content.

"Tell me this isn't true, Ryan. Tell me it's a stupid prank you decide to pull on." She blurted out as the document dropped from her fragile grip.

Like it was natural or maybe just a normal routine for him, Ryan picked up the document from the floor and dropped it right on her thighs.

"Well, I'm sorry to say, but this is not a prank, woman." He replied her, carelessly picking his words. "I'll implore you to believe whatever you read there because it's true."

Ciara shook her head all of a sudden, like she just fell out of a trance. "I won't fall for this, it's not true." She muttered, she sounded more like she was only talking to herself, but her voice was audible enough to Ryan's hearing.

"It is true." He stated plainly, forcing a ball pen into her right palm. "Sign it, woman. Sign the divorce paper now...!"

Chapter 2 Fight back

Ciara doesn't know the reason behind it, but she finds herself laughing out loud at his sudden command. Wait, what was he taking her for? His maid he could just order around to do things as his will?

Well, if that is what his thinking is -then he is mistaken, she won't do things because he wanted her to or allow him boss her around like he owns her.

"What's funny...?" She heard him almost thundering, cutting her off her sudden laughter. Ciara did not notice the hard glare on his face that was being fixated on her, he was red with anger. "Why are you laughing, you find what I just said to you amusing, isn't it?"

Her face was blank like she was not laughing a few moments before, as she stared down at the ball pen in her hand instead of replying to him or saying anything.

She pressed some few buttons on her system and shut it close like she was exiting his sight, leaving his question hanging.

Her attitude did hit a hard spot on Ryan as he finds her offensive, did she not hear him, Why is she not saying anything? The more he thought about it, the more his annoyance grow.

"You don't keep quiet when I ask you a question, woman...!" This time, he was thundering, the glaciers in his eyes seemed too noticeable like they were blinding his own sight.

His anger would make anyone around him cower back into their shell, but definitely not Ciara, she only stares at him like nothing did happened.

Maybe it was because she's been used to his anger or perhaps not -either which way, she could only blink her lashes continuously at him.

"Stop testing my patience, I won't be good on you this time..." He told her in a deep and rough voice, it was vibrating too. "...if this is what you are trying to do."

"Well, I don't know what you are talking about." She muttered under inaudibly with a slight shoulder shrug.

"Yeah, you do know what I'm talking about." He muffled out, heaving out a deep sigh, a heavy silence taking over the atmosphere.

Ciara had thought he was playing a prank on her and maybe since it did not work on her, he decided to let go -if only she knew he was serious with her.

"How do I say this to your understanding, woman?" Ryan hissed with frustration, still glaring at the woman before him as he breaks the thick silence yet again.

"There is nothing to say, Ryan -there isn't..." She muttered in reply, returning the same vibe as his. "I can't accept whatever thing you are saying nor what is written on the papers, okay?"

He let out a forced chuckle, but the glaciers in his eyes didn't seem like it would melt -not any time soon. "Of course, you will. You will do as I have ordered, you can't go against my words, not a bit of it."

"Why?" She asked, her brows raised as she stared questioningly at him. "Why can't I go against your words?"

He rubbed his temple continuously, his patience running out. He felt like if he didn't end their conversation soon, he might end up with a serious headache.

"You can't because you have no choice to it." He replied to her, his voice far from friendly. "I suggested this in the first place and I want it to end now, what is there that's too hard for you to understand?"

"You want it to end because you suggested this at first..." It wasn't a question, she was repeating his own words back to him. "Ahh -I think I get you now."

Ryan knows she was mocking him, but even as threatened, he could only do next to nothing to her -maybe that was why she was getting on his nerve. He wondered with in himself.

How best would he talk things out with her to make her do as he had requested? He wanted their marriage to end as soon as it can, but she was not ready to oblige to it.

They never loved themselves from the start, he made a contract with her because he had no choice to it and now that he felt the coast was clear, he wants to end what he started with her.

Why is she finding it too hard to do, as said, eh?

"Why are you prolonging this talk and making it seems like it's a hard task?" He muttered in complaint.

"Because it is..." She stated plainly in reply. "What's stopping you from waiting until the rest of the few months roll away? Why try to breach the contract midway for no reason?"

"Why does it matter to you whether I breach the contract or not?" He asked back in reply. "-and who told you I have no reason for doing this, and yes, don't ask my reasons for it."

Ciara stared blankly at him, unsure of how best to answer him. How does she reply to such question anyway?

"Just sign this already..." He uttered, breaking into her train of thoughts. "I have no much time to waste with you, woman, I have better things to do than this."

"It's better you go for the better things you have to do instead -" She told him nonchalantly, throwing the document at him. "-because I'm not ready to sign any paper..."

Chapter 3 Never let go

Ryan could only watch her leave his sight after throwing the document at him, her face crumpled down in a disapproving frown.

"You can't force me to do things against my will. I'm sorry, but your silly threat can't move me..." She had told him before leaving, stomping her foot away.

A deep but low grunt escaped his throat as he clenched his fist tightly, gritting his teeth in anger. "How dare her?" He growled under his breath, more like speaking to himself.

He was angry -no, he was in rage, and he felt like his anger would take over him soon. How did the table turn against him in a snap of a finger, eh?

Did he not threaten her enough, or maybe he threatened her more than he was supposed to? Ryan thought, his mind was clouded in confusion.

He badly wants to end everything with her, but she's making it seems hard, like there is a big deal in it, but to him, he found none.

"...Why try to breach the contract midway for no reason?.." Her voice rang loudly in his ears. Who cares whether he's trying to breach the contract or not? No one and he doesn't either.

'It's my decision, yeah. Why does it matter to anyone?' He muttered under his breath, his fuzzy mind setting out to think through of a way to make her do as he had planned.

He could not wait any longer, he wanted her gone as soon as she can. He had married her on contract because he needed to buy himself out urgently, but now that he felt it was all settled, he needed her no more?

After several minutes of battling with his inner self, he just couldn't come up with anything good thing to hold on with. She has no weak state -not the one he knows of, he could have threatened her with, and she doesn't seem like she's ready to see reasons with him.

'How am I to go about her?' He thought with in himself, running his fingers through his hair and ruffling it, too.

Ryan thought the best way was if he keeps ringing it in her, she might think he was not being serious with her -to him, his persistence would prove he was not joking with her from the start.

Seeing that there weren't any better thoughts to it, he decided in settling for it without thinking twice about it -well, he needed not to think twice.

*******

Night fell quicker than expected and a few hours had passed, Ciara was expecting he will still come to her but was surprised not to see him, she concluded that maybe he had gone to sleep or possibly he is still in the living room 'cause it's too early for Ryan to go to bed. Like an owl, he barely sleeps at night and if he does -it's only for a few hours.

This was unusual, and it feels odd to her -the Ryan she had come to know won't let her off the hook that easily, else he gets whatever he wants from her.

Ciara, on the other than, who has been expecting him, was never ready to give in to his request either.

It might be his and not her decision to make, but she just could not allow him to breach their contract for some reason best known to him alone. Still, she dreaded he might have something up his sleeves.

Pushing her thoughts aside, she decided to go check on him in the living room but was surprised it was empty with no traces of him in sight.

On most nights like this, he's always pouring himself some wine, but he was nowhere in sight, where could he have gone to? Ciara wondered, feeding her eyes with the sight before her.

'Maybe he must have gone to his room then...' She thought with in herself with an intention of checking up on him in his room. She did know why, but she just felt like she should.

She shrugged her shoulders lightly, well, it's not a bad thought if she does so. Just when she was about heading back, the corner of her left eye caught a glimpse of the document.

It was laying on the center table. There is no way for it to be lying there itself because she remembered throwing it on his face and had angrily left him when he would not stop threatening her. Who does that?

She had wanted to shred the document to pieces before his eyes instead, but she quickly held herself from doing such. She was afraid he might do something drastic to her, he is the type with anger issue.

Strutting towards the center table, she picked it up and decided to go through it once again, since she felt she didn't understand what was written in it in the first place -she needed to be certain it wasn't on a joke and empty threat.

Going through it once again, Ciara realized that no matter how much she goes through it, she will still be left awestruck and bewildered.

'What was he thinking for him to come up with an idea of divorce?' She muttered like she was trying to read his mind as though he was before her.

She was pleased with him because he decided to be considerate, he had promised a few of his assets as compensation for the divorce.

Ciara knew that few of his assets as mentioned means fortune, but she wasn't moved a bit. She needed not his money...she wanted something else from him instead.

It doesn't sound right, but it does feel right to her, she can't just leave midway and not because he wanted her to.

Ciara was never the type to fall for any guy, but lately, she realized she's starting to get head over heels with him, and she is not ready to let go of him -no matter how much he tries...
