Chapter 1 The Wolf That Night

The rain poured heavily over the small town of Silverbrook, drenching the empty streets. Aurora Williams let out a long sigh as she parked her car in front of the veterinary clinic she owned. She should have been home an hour ago, but she had left some paperwork behind, and she was too exhausted to put it off until tomorrow.

Pulling her brown coat tighter around her, she hurried toward the clinic's entrance. The downpour soaked her dark hair, strands sticking to her chilled cheeks. The night air was biting, and she couldn't wait to get back to her apartment, curl up under a warm blanket, and sip a cup of tea.

But then, something caught her attention.

Under the dim glow of a streetlamp, a shadow staggered in the middle of the road. Aurora's heart clenched as she saw blood mixing with the rain pooling on the asphalt.

A wolf.

Aurora stared in disbelief. That was impossible. There were no wild wolves in Silverbrook. The town was surrounded by forests, but it was rare for wolves to wander into residential areas-let alone one in this condition, covered in blood, its body marred with deep gashes that looked like claw marks and massive bite wounds.

Without thinking, she ran toward it.

"Oh my God..." Aurora knelt beside the animal, her breath hitching. The wolf looked like it was on the brink of death. Its fur was jet black, and its body was far larger than that of an ordinary wolf. But what shocked her the most were its eyes.

Golden eyes stared back at her-not with the fear of a wild animal but with a strange awareness, almost as if... it understood her.

Aurora swallowed hard. This didn't make sense.

Yet, despite her fear, her instincts as a veterinarian took over. She had to save this creature, no matter how strange the circumstances.

"It's okay... I won't hurt you," she whispered, shrugging off her jacket and gently covering the wolf's body.

The wolf didn't resist. It only let out a weak whimper, its breathing labored, as if every breath was a struggle.

With some difficulty, Aurora began dragging the massive creature toward the clinic. Her muscles strained under the weight, but she didn't care. All that mattered was saving its life before it was too late.

---

Inside the small operating room, Aurora worked quickly.

She cleaned the wolf's wounds, trying to stop the bleeding that refused to slow. But as she examined it more closely, she noticed something strange. These injuries weren't from a car accident or an attack by another animal.

They looked more like battle wounds-inflicted by something big and powerful.

Aurora bit her lip. A bad feeling gnawed at her.

When she touched the wolf's damp fur, she realized its body was burning hot-too hot for a normal animal. She frowned. Was it suffering from an infection? Or was there something more at play here?

She was about to grab her suturing kit when a low growl rumbled through the room.

Aurora froze.

The wolf was waking up.

Slowly, its eyes flickered open. Once again, those golden irises gleamed in the dim light. Aurora took a step back. There was something in its gaze that made her hesitate-not fear, but an eerie familiarity, as if it knew her.

But before she could react further, something impossible happened.

The wolf's body began to tremble violently. Its breath came in ragged gasps, and its muscles twisted unnaturally beneath its skin. Aurora stood frozen, eyes wide, as the sound of bones snapping filled the room.

Her heartbeat thundered in her ears. "What's happening?" she whispered, but there was no answer.

Within seconds, right before her eyes, the wolf began to change.

Aurora couldn't breathe. Couldn't think.

Where the massive wolf had just lain, there was now a man.

A man with a powerful, battered body, wounds still fresh on his skin, and the same golden eyes as the beast before.

Aurora nearly screamed.

The man lay on the floor, his body still covered in blood. His breathing was ragged, as if the transformation had drained him completely. With effort, he lifted his head, locking eyes with her.

"Don't be afraid," he rasped, his voice hoarse, yet laced with danger. "You... saved me."

Aurora stumbled backward, her body colliding with the operating table. "Who... who are you?"

The man tried to rise, but his body was too weak. He collapsed onto the floor again, groaning in pain.

Aurora had no idea what to do. Her mind screamed that this was impossible, that she must be hallucinating. But her eyes told her a different story.

The wolf she had saved had turned into a man.

A suffocating silence filled the room, broken only by the relentless downpour outside.

Aurora clutched her chest, trying to steady her frantic heartbeat. This had to be a nightmare.

But when the man struggled to sit up, his hand reaching out toward her, pain flickering across his face, Aurora realized one thing.

Nightmares never felt this real.

And her life would never be the same again.

Chapter 2 Golden eyed man

The rain outside continued to pour heavily, creating a distant rumbling that echoed within the clinic. Aurora stood frozen in the corner of the room, her body still trembling from what she had just witnessed. Only minutes ago, she had brought in a severely wounded wolf. But now, in front of her, there was a man-a human-his body covered in wounds, his breath still ragged.

Aurora stared at him, a mix of fear and confusion in her eyes. This made no sense. There was no logical explanation for what had just happened.

"Are you still there?" the man's voice broke the silence, hoarse and weak, yet carrying a firmness that couldn't be ignored.

Aurora flinched. The voice was real. The man was real.

Her fingers gripped the edge of the operating table, as if holding on to something tangible would help her make sense of the situation. "Who are you?" she asked, her voice unsteady. "What just happened?"

The man groaned softly, attempting to sit up, but his body was too weak. He finally leaned against the table, his muscles tensing from the pain that still consumed him. "I..." He took a deep breath before continuing, "...Kael."

The name was unfamiliar to Aurora, yet for some reason, it felt dangerous.

Kael's golden eyes swept over the room, assessing every corner before settling back on Aurora. "Where am I?"

"In my clinic," Aurora answered without thinking.

Kael nodded slightly, as if processing the information.

Aurora swallowed hard, trying to push away the fear tightening around her chest. She was a veterinarian, someone used to treating injured creatures. Kael might not be her usual patient, but her instinct to heal remained.

She took a cautious step toward him. "I need to clean your wounds."

Kael studied her intently, as if deciding whether to trust the woman standing before him.

"If I wanted to hurt you, I would have done it already," Aurora continued, forcing her voice to sound steadier than she felt. "But you were dying just minutes ago. I just want to help."

Kael remained silent for a few seconds before finally giving a slow nod. "Alright."

Aurora took a deep breath, trying to ignore the fact that she was treating a man who had just shifted from a wolf. Her hands worked quickly and efficiently, cleaning the wounds on Kael's body with a warm cloth. The blood that had been flowing so freely started to slow, though some of the gashes were still deep.

As her fingers brushed against his skin, Aurora noticed something odd. Kael's body temperature was much higher than a normal human's, almost like someone suffering from a high fever. Yet, despite his apparent weakness, there was undeniable strength beneath his muscles.

She tried to dismiss the strange sensation creeping up her spine as she continued treating him. But the more she worked, the more she realized something impossible.

Kael's wounds... were healing on their own.

Aurora's hands stilled, her eyes widening as she watched a deep wound gradually close before her eyes. She blinked, ensuring she wasn't hallucinating. But no-she saw it happening.

How is this possible?

She swallowed hard, her gaze snapping up to Kael, who was watching her reaction carefully.

"You must have a lot of questions," he said, his voice steadier now.

Aurora couldn't tear her eyes away from the nearly healed wound on his shoulder. "How is this happening?" she whispered.

Kael exhaled heavily. "I am not like ordinary humans."

Aurora's heartbeat quickened. "You mean..."

Kael looked at her directly, his golden eyes gleaming under the clinic's dim light. "I'm a werewolf."

The words hung in the air, heavy with significance.

Aurora wanted to laugh, to deny it. But how could she, after what she had just seen?

"You're joking, right?" Her voice carried the desperate hope that this was all some elaborate trick.

Kael raised an eyebrow. "Do I look like I'm joking?"

Aurora bit her lip. No, of course not. There was nothing remotely funny about this situation.

Kael let out a tired sigh and attempted to sit up straighter. "I have to leave this place."

Aurora frowned. "You can't even stand properly. You need rest."

Kael held her gaze for a long moment before conceding. "Fine. But only for a little while."

Aurora nodded, even though a part of her knew her life had just changed forever.

---

A few hours later, Kael was asleep on the treatment bed Aurora usually reserved for animals needing intensive care. Though he looked better, the unease inside Aurora refused to fade.

She sat at her desk, unable to take her eyes off the man now resting peacefully.

A werewolf?

Until now, such things only existed in books and movies. But she had seen it with her own eyes. She had watched Kael shift from a wolf into a man. She had witnessed his wounds healing at an unnatural speed.

Aurora ran a hand over her face. This was all too much to process.

Then, a troubling thought crept into her mind.

If Kael was a werewolf... then what had injured him so badly?

Was there something even stronger than him out there?

A shiver ran down her spine at the possibility.

As if sensing her thoughts, Kael stirred. His breathing was steadier now, but his body remained tense.

Aurora stood, approaching cautiously. "Kael?"

The man groaned softly before his eyes fluttered open. His golden gaze looked sharper than before.

"You're still here," he murmured, his voice rough from sleep.

"Of course. I don't just abandon my patients," Aurora replied, though she knew Kael was no ordinary patient.

Kael studied her, as if assessing something unseen. "You're not afraid?"

Aurora bit her lip. "Honestly? I don't know."

A small, tired smirk played on Kael's lips. "You're braver than I expected."

Aurora let out a quiet sigh. "I don't feel that way."

Kael watched her for a moment before finally saying, "Thank you."

Aurora shrugged. "I'm just doing my job."

Kael stared up at the ceiling, his expression growing more serious. "I have to leave soon."

Aurora frowned. "You're not fully healed yet."

"I don't have a choice," Kael said, his tone more resolute.

Aurora studied him, sensing that he was hiding something. And for a reason she couldn't understand, she wanted to know more.

"What really happened to you?" she asked softly.

Kael remained silent for a moment before locking eyes with her. His gaze held secrets, ones that felt far too dangerous.

"If you knew," he said finally, "it could put you in danger."

The tension in the air thickened.

Aurora knew one thing for sure-this man carried more danger than he let on.

And she had just stumbled into something far bigger than she had ever imagined.

Chapter 3 The secret behind the gaze

Aurora sat on a wooden bench in the corner of her clinic, her eyes fixed on Kael as he struggled to get up from the treatment bed. His body still looked weak, but his gaze was filled with determination. His wounds had not fully healed, yet he stubbornly forced himself to stand.

"Kael, you're still weak," she said, this time with a firmer tone.

Kael met her gaze sharply, as if to say he wasn't used to being ordered around. "I'm fine," he replied curtly.

Aurora sighed, trying to suppress her frustration. "I'm the doctor here, and I know you haven't fully recovered. If you keep pushing yourself, your wounds will reopen."

Kael didn't respond, only staring at her with a cold expression.

Aurora crossed her arms over her chest. "Then explain what really happened. Why were you so badly injured? Aren't werewolves supposed to be strong?"

Kael let out a long breath, his eyes darkening. He turned toward the window, gazing at the star-filled night sky. The rain had stopped, leaving behind a thin layer of mist on the glass.

"Something is hunting me," he finally said, his voice low, almost a whisper.

Aurora felt a chill run down her spine. "What do you mean?"

Kael looked at her intently. "I'm not the only one who's different in this world. There are other creatures out there-more dangerous ones. And they want me dead."

Aurora's heart pounded. She had known Kael wasn't an ordinary man, but hearing about a greater threat made her body tense.

"Who are they?" she whispered.

Kael leaned his head against the wall, his face weary. "Hunters. And maybe... another wolf clan."

Aurora tried to process the information. "So, there are more werewolves like you?"

Kael nodded slowly. "Many. But we're divided into different clans. And not all of them can be trusted."

Aurora bit her lip. She should be scared. She should stay away from this man. But for some reason, something inside her refused to do so.

"What happens if they find me?" she asked cautiously.

Kael's golden eyes gleamed as he stared at her. "They'll kill you."

Aurora's breath hitched.

"Why?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Kael shifted on the bed, moving slightly closer to her. "Because you know too much. And they don't like humans knowing we exist."

Aurora swallowed hard. Her mind raced back to what had happened just hours ago-the moment she had seen Kael shift from wolf to man. A moment that should have been impossible.

But it was real.

Her eyes searched his face, trying to determine whether he was telling the truth or just trying to scare her. But from the cold intensity in his gaze, she knew he wasn't joking.

"Is there a way for me to stay safe?" she finally asked.

Kael studied her for a moment before replying in a low voice, "There's one way."

Aurora straightened. "What is it?"

Kael leaned in slightly, his voice barely above a whisper. "Stay with me."

Aurora froze.

She didn't know if those words were a warning or a threat, but something about the way he said them made her chest tighten.

"What do you mean?" she whispered.

Kael reached for her wrist, his grip warm yet firm. "I can protect you. But that means you have to come with me."

Aurora stared at him in silence, her mind racing for a rational answer. Her life had always been normal, peaceful, with no connection to the supernatural.

But now, everything had changed.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm her pounding heart. "I can't just leave my life behind, Kael. I have a job, a home, and..."

Kael cut her off, his voice even lower. "And do you think your life will remain the same after tonight?"

Aurora hesitated.

Kael's expression was unreadable. "They know I'm here. If any hunters saw you helping me tonight, your name is already on their list."

Aurora closed her eyes for a moment. She wanted to believe this was all just a nightmare that would disappear by morning. But deep down, she knew the truth.

She opened her eyes and met Kael's gaze, filled with uncertainty. "If I go with you... can you really protect me?"

Kael held her stare before nodding. "I promise."

Aurora was still hesitant, but something inside her told her she could trust him.

She let out a slow breath before nodding slightly. "Alright. I'll go with you."

Kael didn't show relief, but Aurora noticed his gaze softened slightly.

"We have to leave before dawn," he said. "They could track my scent and find this place."

Aurora heard the tension in his voice. She turned toward the window, searching for any sign of the creatures Kael had mentioned. But all she saw was darkness and the shadowy outlines of trees swaying in the wind.

"Where are we going?" she finally asked.

Kael slowly stood from the bed, still slightly unsteady. "Somewhere safe."

Aurora frowned. "Is there really a place safe from them?"

Kael held her gaze before answering, "Yes... but it means leaving this city."

Aurora was taken aback. She had never considered leaving her home. But given the circumstances, she didn't have much of a choice.

"We need to prepare," Kael said.

Aurora nodded, though her heart was still filled with uncertainty.

She had no idea what lay ahead. But one thing was certain-her life would never be the same again.
