Chapter 1- Transmigrated
"Ring"
A sound from a bell woke up Elise from sleeping on the bus. It's almost her stop and luckily she wakes up in time. She goes out on the bus and quietly walks to the dark alley. Her place is on the next street, two minutes away from the bus station. It was a fifth-floor apartment building and she lived on the fourth floor with her family.
It's late-night of December, the snow gives a very frosty vibe that makes her shudder from the coldness. She thinks of a warm dish from home but she remembered that her family was not at home. Two days ago, her parents informed her that they won't be at home for one week. She was only told this morning when she checked her phone and there were messages from her parents sent to her. She was looking forward to this day because a week from now will be her birthday.
It was dawn when her parents and younger sibling quietly sneaked out and went to god knows where. They just simply informed her that they left the house without even asking her if she liked to join them. Just a quiet escape and some noises she heard earlier but chooses to ignore then she woke up and read their messages.
She's a neet. A person who does not have work or is unemployed and in her twenty-eight years of prime. If you're a normal person you will also think that an almost thirty years old lady without savings or a job is pitiful and weird. Some people would think she was beyond saving but there were reasons for it, but they would think of it as an excuse.
Elise's first job was in her first year in college. She was a part-time office secretary who works five hours a day, work in the morning then study in the evening. She worked like this for almost three years without a break just to support her study but it wasn't enough when she reached senior college, her expenses on school became more expensive and her work and class schedules collided all the time. It was the hardest time of her life but Elise endured it. After asking a friend for another job, Elise had to work on the weekend. Her salary from her tour guide job was not enough but it helped her school expenses. Elise lives discreetly just to graduate from college.
Her parents on the other hand give up on supporting her study. They said that her smart little brother is more profitable than her who only had an average brain. Elise ignored them and strived harder. Thanks to her resistance she was able to graduate from college.
After graduation, Elise resigned from her part-time job. It was the most fulfilling thing she achieved in her life. She was much happier, Elise found a job after a month of searching and stayed at the company for a year. There was an incident where her co-worker kept harassing her to the point that she was scared of entering her workplace.
She became stressed over time and couldn't finish her job properly, huge anxiety developed her and that made her lose confidence. Elise's mentality becomes different and after careful thinking, she sacrifices her precious job. She ended it.
Weird enough after quitting, Elise's burden became lighter not until her family refused to support her decisions. For them, it was total crap that she resigned from her good job. It became a disappointment and Elise's anxiety widened. She found a job afterward but unlike the first one, her staying from one job to another became difficult. She developed panic attacks. A year becomes months and months then days... Elise changing jobs became frequent and her family stopped caring for her.
She understands very well that her family wasn't at fault because she chooses not to tell them her burden. It was easy for her to act naturally to the eyes of people even though she was not fine. It became a scary habit but developing it was part of Elise's life.
The elevator opens and she hurriedly goes inside. She eats quickly and prepares herself to go to bed. Elise checks her phone for messages but nothing from her family, just a message from a friend asking if she goes home safe. She replied with a smiley. Elise fell asleep feeling numb from the coldness.
--
Early in the morning Elise is awakened by the ringtone of her phone. Someone is calling her and she lazily picks it up. by extending her arm without opening her eyes.
"Elise?" a person with an energetic voice call her name.
"Who's this?" she asked in a hoarse voice
"Heck. It's pretty, smart and your precious cousin Dina. Wake up now sleepy head." After hearing it, Elise opened her eyes.
Dina is Elise's cousin who's close to her but Elise did not like her. Elise has had an inferiority complex since they were in high school. Elise and Dina are the same age, they were childhood friends and Dina was always there for Elise helping her even though recently Elise avoided her because of her inferiority complex. Dina is a successful doctor. She's the definition of beauty, her skin is white and smooth while her face is round with two big black eyes and she has a smart brain. Elise realizes their gap became sensitive in her presence but Dina is good at pursuing Elise. She helps her just like a psychic, she knows when Elise feels upset.
"What do you want?"
"Meet me near your place. Let's eat up!"
Another thing that was weird about Dina was when Elise caught her talking to stray cats and her obsession with healthy foods especially vegetables. She also has this outgoing aura that drains Elise everytime they were together. She likes inviting Elise to eat. Whenever Dina likes it they would meet and eat then talk about Elise's situation.
"No way!"
"Yes way!"
--
Elise ended the call several times but Dina kept calling her that Elise had no choice but to get up. She hurriedly takes a bath and brushes her teeth because Dina keeps messaging her after not answering her call. Elise was annoyed early in the morning but had no choice because her cousin won't let her off the hook.
A fine restaurant near the apartment is a place where they will meet. Elise wears her favorite mint hoodie and black track pants. It's an out of place fashion to a formal restaurant but Elise does not care. She goes inside and sits in front of Dina facing her.
"I'm here. Let's eat now." Elise said in a low voice.
"Hmm, why are you in a hurry?" Dina asked her with her black eyes getting bigger.
"because I still want to go back to sleep!" Elise exclaimed, annoyed.
"Hmm, but I won't let you....."
"Tch."
"I know that they weren't home."
Elise stops checking the menu and looks up to Dina. She can't figure it out but most of the time Dina can see right through her like she's kind of a shaman.
"I think I might eat everything. I'm hungry because of your babbling."
"Okay fine. Don't worry L, this is an eat all you can." Dina cheerfully shows different kinds of food that Elise would like.
Elise then started to eat without holding back. She is lucky that she won't be cooking in her home. She saves her time lazing around after going home and the food that she ordered here is all delicious. She eats with gusto not minding Dina who is busy watching her.
Minutes passed and Elise was finished eating. She glances at Dina who is happily watching with her mysterious black eyes. Dina speaks after a moment.
"By the way Elise, I invited you today to give your gift."
"What?" Elise frowned asking Dina
"Here."
Dina gives the gift covered in a purple wrapper to Elise. The paper design is vintage and has medieval feelings on it. Fleur De Lis. The gift is beautiful but Elise with no apparent reason got chills after receiving it.
"I recently got interested in reading different kinds of books and I just want to share it with you."
"I don't read old books."
"You will like it."
"Nope."
"Yep"
"I don't like old books!"
"No way, you will like it."
Elise sighed and just accepted the book after Dina carved it to her obnoxiously.
--
After a chaotic meeting Elise is finally in her room. She glances at the gift Dina gave her that she throws after she came home. Dina won't let her go not until she promises that she will read the book. Elise out of curiosity and to make Dina let go of her... She decided to read it.
"The Lazy Lucky Princess. What dumb title is this?""
The novel tells about an orphan girl named Alicia who received an amount of abuse after her family went into debt because of her relative's greediness. She was beautiful, kind and blessed by the power of God but because of the conspiracy her parents died in an accident. Now she was sent to the La papillonne orphanage at the age of eight.
Alicia being most beautiful received lots of attraction from the orphanage, many noble patrons wanted her and some of them had an evil intention. The Director of La papillonne is a kind-loving person that's why Alicia lives a sensible life having lots of friends. But that sunny life ended when the Director died from poison.
After replacing the new director of La papillonne, the tragedy started. The new director was full of malice and harassed the children including Alicia. He tortured the orphans then killed them after. Alicia experienced lots of abuse but she was never killed because of the director's obsession with her but it changes when Alicia reaches the age of fifteen. The attempt of killing Alicia, the power of light saves her and the children. She became the savior of the orphans and the empire recognized her as the new saint. The emperor gives her the title of the kind saint and becomes engaged to the crown prince.
Cliché story. Elise continues to read and the novel surprisingly has lots of genre. It was tiring to read and every chapter was composed of annoying scenes. Elise never thought that she would finish the book in a day. She feels drowsy after reading The End, even though she was hungry and wanted to eat but her eyes became sleepier. In her consciousness a golden light from the book shines brightly and takes Elise's soul away from her body.
--
Elise wakes up by the sounds of cries. She was confused at first seeing a carriage and children inside the wagon. She felt the uncontrollable fear, and in her hazy mind Elise recognized a girl beside her. A long haired blonde with light brown eyes, pointed nose and pink lips quietly sitting with no emotion in her face.
She is Alicia the Saint.
Elise never thought that she would be transmigrated to the fantasy world. A medieval era composed of aristocrats, magic and divine power. An unfair world full of greed and violent people. Elise was frightened but slowly absorbing the reality. She was old enough but she never experienced this kind of phenomenon. She was just reading the book her cousin gifted to her.... She just read it so her cousin will leave her alone and stop messing with her. She never thought that she would wake up in a new body and in a fictional world!
But how the heck does she go here? Did she die after reading the novel? Oh my god! Did she really die? Elise is panicking inside but suppresses herself. How on earth will she live from now on? Elise quietly prayed and cried inside.
ENF OF CHAPTER 1..
Chapter 2- Meeting the Saint
Elise is feeling depressed because she is really in another world. She remembers cooking her last favorite shin ramyun that she kept for seven days just to eat, but she suddenly woke up here in the carriage with most children, who looked stressed. The wagon is uncomfortable to ride in and she wanted to stretch her limbs but there are twenty children inside of the wagon.
Elise, who cannot sleep, observes the people and nature. She really can't believe that she's seeing different natural hair colors, in her world when people dye their hair to look good, especially idols but here it's natural shiny hair including this blonde saint beside her. Elise didn't know if the wagon was for a slave trader or from the orphanage. They supposedly go according to the story she read.
Alicia is calm and silent. She never cries or whim even though she's a noble. The children in this wagon mostly cry or look like they are going to kill the next person beside them. They are still arrogant even though they are now orphans. Elise got goosebumps when Alicia suddenly turned her head to her. They stare at each other. Elise was shocked, lowered her head and closed her eyes. Maybe it's time to pretend to be asleep... maybe just a dream. Elise will return to her world then, after an hour of struggling, Elise is in deep sleep.
Elise wakes up by the noise of the children. The sun already set, and they stopped at the big gate painted in navy, dark color. Elise suddenly got nervous. The letters she read at the entrance of the gate are clearly "La Papillonne Orphanage". Elise is now clearly in the book "The Lazy Lucky Princess." She remembered all the gruesome scenes from the book. She estimated her age and is now seven years old while Alicia is eight then years from now on the tragedy will happen. Elise became pale and wanted to cry. The abuse that the children will experience is gore and frightening. She knows from that moment how dangerous this place is.
Elise froze in the side, didn't talk, and had a scary look on her face. She wanted to run away and quickly go home. This place is hell! She never really minded the story when she read it, especially the happenings inside the orphanage, but it's different now. She's aware of the potential end and she can't just wash it away easily.
Alicia is eight and four years from now on the Director will die then will be swapped by a monster. Elise, who read and witnessed the cruelty of the new Director, hugged herself. It was full of torture and many children will die because of the cruelty.
Elise found Alicia. She's the protagonist who will most experience the abuse. Alicia walks gracefully inside and is now quiet, but Elise is different. She didn't want to go and was almost ready to run away but the kind director went for her.
"Are you okay, child?" She asked.
The voice is sweet and kind. Her face is full of worry for the child, Elise, who is looking scared.
"It's okay child, go inside with your friends. She said again and hold Elise hand with the dazzling smile Elise witness
The kind Director's name is Samantha Forbe. She is in her forty with blonde hair and green eyes. She is very kind and understanding and treats the children as her own. The author describes her as an almost saintly personality. She is an ordinary lady without power though, that's the reason she got targeted easily.
From Elise's point of view, the character of Samantha Forbe is naïve and ignorant. She's aware of the cruelty and the malice of the villains but did nothing to protect herself and the orphanage she built. For Elise, she is a dumb side character, but it's a different story now. Trapped Elise, who becomes an unknown child and her soul in the body. She needed to convince Samantha to be wise for their safety. Even though Elise is full of worries, she still extends her hand to the Director and smiles at her.
"You will not die," Elise said to herself.
Something distracted Elise after going inside the estate and discreetly observing the place. The half castle-like orphanage is big and has so many rooms. The entrance is wide and has lots of stairs. They can hear the noises from other rooms besides the entrance. There are children eight to twelve years' old that are having a lesson.
The orphanage is impressive because of its medieval interior and classic designs. The paint used was a lighter color. It's not as bad as she expected. The author of the book described the orphanage as a scary place, but it isn't now.
There is room for every subject used for studying and an apartment-style with two bunk beds per room divided for four people. Elise proceeds to her room guided by one of the students, luckily Elise is with Alicia as they were of a similar age. Elise put down her bag and entered the room with Alicia.
There are other children with the age ten to twelve years old inside. The names are visible at the upper front of the bed. She unconsciously read the names in her mind. Elise has two more roommates aside from Alicia.
The director orders them to rest and will meet later before lunch. Elise, who chose the upper bed, organized her things and silently observed the children in the room.
"I am Beth, it's nice meeting you two.Beth has dark skin color but has gray eyes. She is Eleven years old, and she's staying in the orphanage for six months now.
"I am Sarah. I'm nine years old. Nice to meet you two," said the little girl who has pale skin and blue eyes.
They both have black hair.
"I'm Alicia and I'm nine." Alicia said with a sweet small voice.
The two are now smiling and kind of sparkle after seeing the beautiful face of Alicia. Elise who is now standing awkwardly smiles and introduces herself.
"U-uh, I'm Elise and I'm seven"
Elise tells them her little information but not sure, because she doesn't remember where she came from, her family, or everything about the child she possessed. And that's one of her problems because she said her correct name but if it was she had the other name, she would just say she didn't remember.
Alicia is exceptionally friendly with Beth and Sarah, who express their emotions through Alicia. They become buddies in just a matter of minutes, and the protagonist is on a different level indeed. Elise maintains her composure because she's originally twenty-eight adults who are in the body of a seven-year-old child. It overwhelmed Elise by how she will treat these children in front of her.
END OF CHAPTER 2.
Chapter 3- Tremble
Elise lived at the orphanage for three weeks and is now used to the everyday schedule. The orphanage manages their lessons by age, and Elise is having a hard time attending her classes because she is learning pre-school-like teachings. She is bored to death and almost sneaks out and just ditches her lessons but holds herself because being a delinquent student will only bring a bad future, and a bad future means instant death. She plans to become a teacher's pet so that she can manipulate them later on. Elise is using patience as a virtue method, will follow rules, and be the best student so that the people around her will listen to her when the tragedy comes to them.
Elise went to the library. A place where she always spends every day. She reads lots of books that are installed on the shelves of the library. Some of the adults ignore Elise because there are more complicated books she was reading. The teachers let Elise do it because they thought she didn't understand the content and she was just interested in the unique cover of the book.
Elise read the history of the Empire in the current year. It is overwhelming and scary, she refuses to believe that this world existed when a flying unicorn is only natural. She also read myths, angels, former saints, and the power of the Imperial Family.
The current Imperial family emperor is Necephorus Aus Viten, He is the most powerful Emperor in the empire. He married a Saint Empress Aelia Gazelle Placidar and had a son of a crown prince. Elise remembers the wise and cruel emperor with the Saint's loving wife. The author in the book "The Lazy Lucky Princess" describes them as powerful beings that help Alicia after being kidnapped several times. Elise didn't need to write down the date because she fully remembers it like she's the one who wrote the book. Now the most curious Elise is about the book for magic and the Saints.
The current empire does not have a saint but appointed the higher Priest which the last Saint, the empress gave her blessings. It tells that the empress transferred her remaining power to the priest and became a temporary Saint, which gives Elise a confusing thought. Having the amount of divine power is dangerous, a vessel that is not designed for the blessing of God will die and the divine power will have vanished. It never made sense to Elise who knows the flow of the story. The holy church got higher authority because of it and was most respected by the people.
Magicians on the other hand have their post in the empire. Magic is for gifted people who are awakened. They are the types of people who were customized using magic power. They aren't rare but also not in the majority. Magicians will use mana from magic stones, magic stones can amplify magic power and only gifted people can wield it. But ancient magic power is different, it consists of casting spells, and using those spells is dangerous. It requires great mana and only higher magicians can do. Some ancient spells are forbidden because they can only be cast by sacrificing a life.
The empire built an academy that was divided into two departments. For magicians and ordinary people but excel to become a scholar. The academy is open to everyone and does not discriminate. They valued highly individuals according to their talents not in their ranks in society. The nobles who are proud of themselves followed the rules because not obeying the academy will be expelled and only bring shame into their family. A commoner who did not follow the rules will lose the benefits given to them. The students are highly respected because of the academy's prestige.
Elise, engrossed in reading, thinks of the orphans in the La papillonne. The author never mentioned the gifted children aside from Alicia. It's unfortunate enough that they are going to die in vain without Alicia as their salvation.
"Elise! You're here again!" Martha the librarian scolds her.
Elise, who is focused, jumps up because of the angry lady facing her.
"Hi, Ms. Martha. I just like the magical cover of this book!" Elise responded to Martha before she could scold her even more.
"The book is in the thirteen volume! Even though I can't understand it fully, why do you keep taking that book?!" Martha angrily told her.
"I promise Ms. Forbe to just look at the cover and carefully take care of the pages. I even cleaned it because I'm afraid the book is full of dust." Elise said actively and fake her smile at the lady scolding her.
"Then clean everything! The shelf after that book too. You always take hours here just playing! you need to be responsible that you're staying in here now!"
Martha is annoyed with Elise, keeping her loud voice while scolding her.
"I understand. but promise me that I can continue to go there after my lessons." Elise pleads with Martha and continues to look like a puppy.
"Okay. Just do some work." Martha smiling satisfyingly crossed her arms.
"Thank you, Martha." Elise, who is faking to be a naive little girl, manages to escape the angry Martha.
After the library scene, Elise is going to the director's office. Just in the plan, Elise becomes close to Samantha and promises her to have an afternoon tea with the director. She said that she wanted to apply her knowledge in the tea ceremony for Samantha but the children in the orphanage are opposed to the idea at first but Elise manages to convince them by inviting them from time to time. She appears as a modest, kind-hearted child to the other children so that no one will be suspicious of her actions.
Elise knocked at the door thrice and opened it after. She bows upon entering and sees that the director is busy talking to someone she didn't recognize. Samantha's office is bigger with lots of furniture. There's a wide sofa in the center for the guest and a desk that serves as a working table. The man is talking seriously to Samantha and did not bother to lift his head when another child came to the director's office.
Elise can't hear the conversation between them and decides to join the other kids who are quietly sitting at the corner. The table is full of sweets- cakes, biscuits, and cookies. The drinks are replaced by juices. The tea ceremony must be canceled because of visitors, she thought.
Elise sits beside Alicia who is busy reading a book. Alicia as a noble young lady can read complicated books and is known as an intelligent child in the orphanage. She greeted the children politely then went beside Alicia.
The time passed by and Elise was bored eating cookies. She wanted to hurriedly talk to Samantha and ask for permission to access more books in the library. She said it's only for references as part of her studying but that is not an excuse anymore. Elise is serious about studying this world.
The man's back is facing Elise, she peeks a little to examine him and as her curiosity deepens, the more he becomes familiar to her. The man is wearing a very expensive black suit with black gloves and shoes. His hair is wavy and dark in color. The man is also tall as she observed him at the back. A déjà vu process Elise mind. A clear scenario that keeps flashing into her head... causes Elise's face to lose its blood.
Chills quickly occupy Elise's body. Her face turned pale and she's having trouble breathing. She froze in her seat after realizing the identity of the man. The Duke and a powerful magician Zachary Molten. The evil villain in the story "The Lazy Lucky Princess". He is merciless and kills the children after torturing them. He's a crazy psychopath who didn't feel any empathy for the people he killed. Molten was the one who abused Alicia and almost killed her in the story.
Elise is threatened to tremble in her seat.
END OF CHAPTER 3...
