Perry's pov
I inhaled deeply as I stood outside this office, my heart raced as different possible thoughts flashed my mind.
It's another friday of weekly performance reviews, I already know why I was summoned, without entering the office or hearing what Miss Kim had to say.
Miss Kim is our agency's Manager here at Bombas travel agency, Fredericksburg, Texas.
She's a very strict and rigid lady, she never bends the rules for anyone...no matter how close you are to her.
Finally, I gathered enough courage and knocked on the door a few times, before pushing it open.
My eyes went straight to her desk, she's facing her computer and seemed to be very focused on whatever she was doing.
I cleared my throat quietly.
"Miss Kim, you requested to see me?" I asked in a low voice, sticking my head in, with part of my body still outside.
"Ah, yes, come in" she invited me in.
I stepped into her office, although it's small, but it's well organized and neat.
Everything, from the files on the table to the files on the cabinet behind her, seemed to be in their right places.. nothing's amiss.
She paused whatever she was doing, she reached for a file in her drawer and flipped a few pages open.
"We checked the shopping list of the tourists assigned to you, and er... "
She removed her eyeglasses, raised her head and looked at me, there was an unreasonable expression in her eyes.
"... Perry, I've got to be honest with you, your performance isn't encouraging at all" she said.
Oh no! This doesn't sound good at all, I don't like how it sounds.
"I have compared your list with Tori's, she's way ahead of you and I would advice you meet her for some lectures"
Meet Tori for lectures? Hmph, that's just adding salt to an injury.
"Hey, hey, what's that expression you're pulling right now?!"
"Miss Kim.... "
"I don't wanna hear it" she interrupted me. "I don't care what's the personal beef you have with her, but you have to prioritize our company's interest here"
Miss Kim reached for her drawer again, she pulled out another file and slammed it on the table.
"Here" she gestured at the file. "Look at her performance, see for yourself and tell me if you still have the rights to argue with me" she said.
I closed my eyes.
"I'm sorry, Miss Kim" I apologized.
She glared at me for a short moment, before speaking again.
"If this continues, then I'm afraid our company will have to let you go"
"But... "
"Our company is just a small scale business, we're still trying to build up our reputation and not even the slightest mistakes are tolerated"
I nodded. "Yes, ma'am"
"You should step up your game, or you're leaving!"
"I will work harder now, Miss Kim"
Her eyes trailed my body, she must be assessing my outfit for today, after all, she always has a thing or two to say about my dress code.
"You're so unprofessional" she muttered.
Can you just say something nice about me for once? It wouldn't hurt you, alright? I wanted to yell out at her.
"Just leave my office!" she said.
"Thank you for giving me a second chance"
"Just go"
Not wanting to spend another second in her office, I turned and quickly rushed out.
A sigh of relief immediately left my mouth the moment I stepped out, I sometimes wonder if her office is somehow connected to hell's pit.
"Boo!"
Annie yelled in my ear and I jumped slightly in fright, which made her roared in laughter. Annie's my coworker and she's the only one I'm close to here.
"Annie, are you trying to give me a heart attack?" I scolded her softly, with my hand on my chest.
"Come on, I wasn't that loud" she replied.
"Yeah, but you still managed to scare me"
She chuckled lightly and threw an arm around my shoulder, she glanced at Miss Kim's office behind us.
"Miss Kim called you in earlier, what did she say to you?" Annie asked.
"Same old" I answered.
She rolled her eyeballs as we stopped by my desk, I sat on my chair and she leaned on my desk.
"She's got to stop comparing you with Tori, that bit*h is a sl*t and she can do anything to get her tourists to shop"
"Hm, maybe I should be like her, because whatever she's doing it's really working for her.. who knows, it might work for me too" I said.
Annie flicked my forehead, which earned her a harsh glare from me but she doesn't look like she care.
"Are you even hearing to yourself right now? You wanna do whatever she's doing? You mean, you wanna be a sl*t?"
"That's not what I mean, Annie"
"But that's what she is" she said.
My phone beeped and I reached for it, I saw some unread messages from Morrison (my boyfriend), he must have sent me a few messages while I was in Miss Kim's office.
A smile crept on my face as I quickly opened them.
"He~ey, I know that smile" Annie said, pushing my shoulder lightly.
"What smile?"
"You've got a message from your boyfriend, right?"
My smile widened, I nodded but my smile faltered just as it came.
*I can't have dinner with you, I'm not sure I can make it*
*I can't come pick you up, I'm still busy*
*Don't bother coming over tonight, I'll be working overtime!* the messages read.
"Uh-oh, what happened to your smile just now?" Annie asked when she noticed my expression.
I stared at the phone for a while, before throwing it on the table. Annie picked it up and read the messages, then scoffed.
"Perry, are you sure your boyfriend loves you?" she asked.
There was no reply from me, so she continued.
"I think you should break up with him, he must be two timing you because he barely have any time for you" she said.
There still wasn't no reply from me, my mind was just occupied with the messages Morrison sent me.
It's been a week since we last saw each other, doesn't he miss me at all? Why can't he create time for us to hang out?
Maybe his boss wouldn't let him get off work until he's done working, I guess I should go over to his place and cook for him.
That could be counted as a date, right?
"Hey, Perry!"
Annie called and snapped her fingers across my eyes, I blinked and smiled at her.
"Why are you smiling?" she asked.
"Nothing" I replied.
"I'm telling you to break up with that jerk and you're smiling?"
I shook my head in disagreement with her words.
"Morrison is not a jerk, he's really busy and I can tell he sincerely loves me"
"Oh, really?" I nodded. "Then why didn't he create time for you?"
"Like I said, he's busy"
She rolled her eyeballs, lifted herself off my desk and snatched a grape from my plate.
"Whatever you say" she popped the grape in her mouth. "Anyway, I'll be leaving for LA in three days"
"Three days?"
"Yeah"
"Wait, how long have you been working on this plan?"
She tilted her head and think for a moment, then shrugged her shoulders.
"For some months now, I've found an apartment already and I'll look for a job after I've moved there" she explained.
"Wow! That's a pretty bold move, it's nice"
"Yeah... how about you come with me?"
"No, thank you, I'm good here" I said.
"You can't be so sure, you might wanna leave after breaking up with that scumbag"
I looked at her in the eyes, then shook my head.
"That's not gonna happen, not even in your wildest dreams"
"Well, if it does happen and you need to escape, just know you've got a friend in LA.. you can come hide at my place"
With that she strode back to her desk, while I hurry up to get my work done in time.. I'm planning to cook Morrison's favorite for him later.
★★★★
"Alright, Perry, think about what I told you earlier.. you can't let him break up with you first" Annie said.
"And remember what I said, it's not gonna happen"
She sighed, tapped my shoulder lightly.
"Just take care, I should head home since my Uber is here"
"Ok, good night" I said.
We hugged briefly before she slide into the backseat and left in her Uber, she waved at me until she's out of sight.
I checked the time in my phone, it's already 7:13pm, I guess I should have called an Uber earlier.
But I guess luck's on my side, a cab came by and I boarded it.
"Tank's lane, please" I told the driver.
"Ok, let's go" he replied.
Perry's pov
It was a fast drive from bomas travel agency to Morrison's place, after all, I was pestering the driver to drive faster.
Luckily, we weren't pulled over by the cops.
"Keep the change, sir" I told the driver after paying him.
"Oh, thank you, Miss"
"It's nothing" I replied.
I waited until the driver drove off, before heading towards Morrison's door.
A frown crept onto my face as I realized the door was slightly opened, I furrowed my eyebrows.
Didn't Morrison said he's working overtime? Why is his door open? Or did he get off early?
The frown on my face suddenly turned into a smile, I quickly pushed the door open and rushed in.
He wasn't in the living room, so I rushed to his room, I was just so excited and couldn't wait to see him.
But my fast footsteps slowed down as I come closer to his room, I heard grunts and sounds coming from the room.
Without knocking, I pushed the door open and rushed in, but I froze immediately, my eyes grew wide and I paled.
I quickly slapped my hand over my mouth, muffling the shriek that threatened to come out.
All the excitement I was feeling, suddenly left me.
No, this can't be, I denied mentally as l let my eyes scanned the room.
A pink panty was on the floor, female clothes scattered all over the place, couch, table, floor and a pair of red heels randomly tossed aside.
Even Morrison's shirt, pants and neck tie were also scattered all over, but his shoes were still on.
My neck snapped towards the loud squeaky sound coming from the bed, only to see Morrison laying on a woman and moving his hips.
Are my eyes playing tricks on me right now? This mustn't be true, right?.
Is this why Morrison said I shouldn't come over? Is this his so-called working overtime? How could he bring another woman over?
Wait, the most important question is, how long has he being doing this behind me?
"Mo-morrison?" I stuttered softly, but it was loud enough for him to hear me.
He tensed, stopped moving his hips, slowly tilted his head and looked at me, he scoffed and brushed me off as if I'm nothing important.
"Get out!" he growled, grabbing a pillow and threw it at me.
He turned back to the lady underneath him, crashed his lips on hers and continued with his business, as if I wasn't standing there.
I tilted my head and tried to get a glimpse of her, but couldn't since his face was perfect covering hers.
"Morrison, what are you doing?" I asked, even though the answer was glaring at me.
He paused his activity and turned to me, he glared at me for a moment before falling on the space next to the lady.
My mouth curved into an O when I saw who the lady was, I pointed at her in a state of total confusion.
"Bre-brenda?!"
She smirked, leaned closer to Morrison and planted a short kiss on his lips.
"What's going on here?" I asked, looking between them.
Brenda laughed briefly, she rested her head on Morrison's chest and scoffed.
"We're banging each other, isn't it obvious? Or..." she trailed off and chuckled lightly. "...are you blind now?" she said.
Morrison found her words funny and laughed, he faced her and pinched her nose.
"She's not blind, she's just too old to understand what young people do" he said.
Old? I'm too old? They glanced at me and shared a laugh, as if looking at my face alone is funny to them.
My eyes moved between them in utmost disbelief, my boyfriend and best friend are laying naked in bed together, sucking off each other's face... that's just absurd, it's unbelievable.
Could it be they're playing a prank on me? Wait, what am I thinking? Playing a prank while cuddling with each other?
"Brenda, what are you doing here?" I asked Brenda.
"I should be asking you that" she answered.
"This is my boyfriend's house, of course I should be here"
She and Morrison rolled their eyeballs immediately I said that, they even scoffed simultaneously.
"You're my best friend, how come you're laying on my boyfriend's bed? Naked?"
"Hey!"
She sat upright, resting her back on the headboard and dragging the blanket along with her to cover her chest, but Morrison didn't let her.
He pulled the blanket down and snatched her right breast in his mouth, he began sucking on it while playing with the other, making me feel awkward.
I felt my heart twist in pain and I quickly moved my eyes away from him, then focused them on Brenda's.
"Firstly, I'm not your best friend, stop addressing me as such, it's embarrassing being even a frenemy with you"
"What?" Embarrassing? What's come over her?
"Secondly, Morrison has never being your boyfriend, he's mine all along"
My eyes shifted to Morrison when she said that, but Morrison wasn't even looking my way, he's given his devoted attention to Brenda's breasts.
I turned my eyes back to Brenda.
"What are you saying? Is this a joke?"
"A joke?" she shook her head. "You should know I don't joke, I'm always serious with everything" she said.
"B-but you're my best friend, Brenda, how could you do this to me?"
She didn't answer that, she simply kissed Morrison's head and giggled at something he whispered in her ear.
"Hold on..."
They didn't give me their attention, but I know they're listening, so I continued.
"...how long has this been going on? How long have you been cheating on me, Morrison?"
"Cheating on you?" Morrison asked.
I nodded, which earned me a scoff from him.
"I have never cheated on you, because I don't even love you in the first place"
"What?"
"Yeah, I only wanted a taste of your fresh p*ssy, but sadly, you didn't even give me the chance to after getting close to you"
"W-what?!"
Is this a dream? Because I can't bring myself to believe what I'm hearing right now, I just can't believe it.
"Yeah, Perry, don't think so highly of yourself" Brenda said.
She grabbed Morrison's head and pulled him closer, she placed a peppering kiss on his lips and turned back to me.
"My boyfriend, Morrison..." she emphasized on the my. "...wouldn't even spare you a glance, if it wasn't for the bet he made with his friends!"
This is so surreal, I suddenly started feeling suffocated. My eyelids twitched spastically as I tried to convince myself, this is a dream, but of course, it's not a dream.
"I trusted you guys, I trusted you with all my heart and this is how you repay my trust? By stabbing me in the back?" I asked.
"Nobody stabbed you in the back, didn't he just made it clear to you?"
Brenda paused, stared at me a few moments before speaking.
"He was just with you because he had a bet with his friends, but because of you're too uptight he's lost!"
I stared at Morrison, so he's being with me all these times, simply because he wanted to sleep with me?
"You're just too old fashioned, I mean, who keeps their virginity until marriage these days?" He said.
He and Brenda burst into a fit of laughter, I felt my eyes welling up quickly.
I wanted to cry because my best friend whom I trusted with my whole life, ended up betraying me and she didn't even consider me a friend.
I wanted to cry because my boyfriend whom I love so dearly, was a bloody liar, they've both been lying to my face.
"Perry, you need to grow up, ok? I'm losing $2000 because of you, or..." he paused.
He hopped up the bed, snatched a towel nearby and wrapped it around his waist loosely and approached me.
He stopped in front of me, he's not so taller than me, hence he didn't have to bend when talking to me.
He looked directly in my eyes, usually when he looks in my eyes, I'd feel giddy all over. But right now, all I'm feeling is disgust.
"...or would you let me bang you now so I can win that $2000?" he asked.
"What?"
Is he normal? How can he ask me such a question? Goodness, I can't believe I was about crying for this bast*rd.
"I can give you $500, after all, you kinda contributed to...."
I don't know where this courage came from, but I didn't let him finish his words before giving him a resounding slap.
He held his cheek and glared at me, but surprisingly, I didn't flinch back. I turned to Brenda, she's glaring daggers at me too.
"What do you think you're doing?" she asked me.
"No, I should be the one asking you this. What do you think you're doing?"
My eyes flickered towards Morrison for a brief moment, before turning back to her.
"You're lucky I don't hit girls, I would have shown you what I'm made of!" Morrison said, but I ignored his words.
"Do you think this guy is being serious and honest with you?" I asked Brenda.
"Of course" she replied.
She sprang off the bed and jumped on Morrison's back, she kissed his shoulders and smirked at me.
"You really think he's being honest with you, if he can play with my heart, then know he can trample on yours"
"Do I look like I care?"
"So.. you're willing to throw away our years of friendship for this scum?" I asked.
Brenda scoffed frustratedly.
"I have told you, there's no friendship between us, I won't even appreciate it if someone think we're frenemies!" she snapped at me.
I shut my eyes and balled my fists beside me, I can't believe this, I have being the fool all along.
"Are you done yet? Can you leave my house now?!" Morrison growled at me.
My heart is bleeding right now, I could feel it breaking every seconds and I felt like crying. But I won't cry, I don't wanna give them the satisfaction of getting to me.
"I'll leave" I said.
I opened my eyes and looked between them, I let out a dry laugh.
"And after I leave here today, it's over between all of us, we're gonna be strangers from now onwards"
"Of course, nobody wants your friendship anyway" Brenda said.
I smiled at her, then faced Morrison.
"Remember, I dumped you first, bast*rd!" I yelled in his face before running out of the home.
It's not easy trying to be brave, when you're not.
I wanted to be brave, I didn't wanna cry over this, but how can I be brave when the people who hurt me were the closest to my heart?
Each step take away from Morrison's house tore my heart apart, their betrayal is something I couldn't handle. I so badly wants to bawl my eyes out, claws my heart out to stop the pain.
I didn't know it hurts this much been heartbroken, I just wanted to love and being loved. I didn't sigh up for this, I gave out a dry laugh at how pathetic I am.
How weak I am.
But I can't blame myself for wanting a relationship, a taste of love from the opposite sex but I guess luck wasn't on my side.
I angrily wipe the single tears that has rolled down my cheek, I can't cry even though that what I wanted to do.
I swear I'm not going to fall in love anytime soon if this what comes out of it, it's better I focus on my future.
