On the first day of her internship, Ada ran into a naked man in the shower, who she soon realized was the director of the thoracic surgery department--the man who would decide her internship score. Just as she thought that her luck couldn't get any worse, he appeared before her for the blind date her mother had set up for her. And before she could even snap out of the shock, he and her mother agreed upon the engagement date. He was now not only her director but also her fiance.

Chapter 1 The Collision Between Director And Intern (Part One)

A City's medical university was well-known and only the best were handpicked to attend here. However, even their sophisticated system could not see through this one mistake, and one wrong judgment led to the admission of the worst student in the history of the university.

Ada Ning was that mistake. In the past four years, she had ended up with countless missed subjects and had to take make-up tests, and often, she was the only student in the make-up examination venue. Her teacher continuously warned that if she didn't pass the exams, she wouldn't ever get the chance to practice. However, Ada Ning had different thoughts about this. She was happy for her classmates who were allocated to internships, and happier for herself since she didn't have to work as an intern anywhere.

But to her dismay, the teachers held three meetings to solve this problem and finally decided to send her to the military hospital as an intern on recommendation.

Ada Ning reached the military hospital in low spirits. "The director is in the dressing area of the operating room. Wait in there."

With her internship materials in hand, Ada Ning changed into slippers and stood at the door of the dressing room. A few minutes passed, but no one came out. Grunting impatiently, she barged in without knocking.

The room was filled with dense steam and the air was hot inside. After adjusting her vision, she saw the silhouette of a naked figure. She rubbed her eyes to see clearly.

"Uh... Do you know where I can find the director of the thoracic surgery department?" asked Ada Ning.

"Get out!" A roar came from within the steam. Ada Ning was taken aback and stepped back reflexively. 'Is this...a bathroom?' she wondered in shock.

'Shit!' Ada Ning cursed in her head, realizing that she had gone through the wrong door.

She quickly closed the door and covered her eyes. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!"

She stood outside the door and took a deep breath. 'Did I just run into a man in the shower?' She cursed her luck and waited.

A few moments later, the phone in her pocket vibrated. She picked it up with a sigh and said, "Hello?"

"Ada! If you don't come tonight, you will not be allowed into this house anymore. And Grandma said that if you don't get married soon, she will kill herself in front of your eyes!" Cora, Ada Ning's mother, was pruning flowers on the balcony of her house. As she finished speaking, a neatly cut flower fell into the basket in her hand.

Ada Ning grunted. One after the other, the bombs were dropping on her. She raised her head and said, "Are you talking about the blind date? Don't worry, I'll be there. But it's not my problem if he doesn't like me."

"If you dress up like last time, I will break your legs." Ada Ning shivered. She quickly found an excuse and hung up the phone.

She silently wondered if her day could get any worse.

After a while, a man in a white coat came out of the bathroom, his hair dripping wet.

Ada Ning pretended not to see him, sticking her face into the wall and whispering to herself, "Don't look this way! Don't look this way!"

"Dr. Nicole! Thank you for your hard work. You performed the bridge operation all night. Why don't you get some rest now?" a nurse asked, greeting the man.

'Dr. Nicole?' That was the director's name! Ada Ning stared dumbfounded at the wall. Quickly, she turned around and ran up to him. "Are you Dr. Nicole from the thoracic surgery department?"

He cast a glance at her with a slight frown.

"I'm Ada Ning, one of the interns from A Medical University. This is my resume. The doctor downstairs said that I could only start my internship after receiving your approval." She deliberately ignored what had happened earlier, jumping straight into business.

He looked through her resume, and his cold, hard face showed displeasure. He was told that he would be given an intern, but they never mentioned that she would be this unqualified. He threw the resume on the table beside him and said, "Go back. I won't take you."

Ada's legs trembled; she almost lost her balance. Was she being dismissed from the internship even before it started?

"Dr. Nicole, I won't be able to graduate if you fire me right now," she said in a low voice, her eyes on the floor.

Nicole Shen grew up in the army and was a military doctor. He couldn't stand hearing such a feeble voice. "Speak loudly!"

Ada's back straightened swiftly and she said in a loud voice, "Dr. Nicole, I can't go back yet. If I go back now, I won't be able to graduate. And if I don't graduate, I won't get a job. If I don't get a proper job, I can't make money. Then, I can't-"

"Shut up!" he interrupted her rambling.

"Yes, sir!" She rolled her eyes. Ada was not one to beg for favors. She said, "Just go ahead and stamp it for me so that I don't have to work as an intern here."

Nicole Shen hated her guts. Their eyes met and she was scared into silence.

"From now on, you will follow me wherever I go. If I think you are unqualified for this job, your internship score will be zero," he said in a firm tone with a natural sense of command. "Do you understand?"

"Yes," she said weakly.

"Louder!"

"Yes, sir!"

Ada figured it wouldn't be as easy to fool this man like she did her teachers at school. She would definitely end up living a miserable life if she got on his wrong side.

Nicole Shen took long strides, making rounds of the wards, and she followed right behind him. She listened to him talk to the attending doctors, and even waited outside patiently when he went to the bathroom.

"This new intern must be quite good. Dr. Nicole is taking her wherever he goes."

"That's true. He has never accepted any intern before, let alone a female doctor. We have female nurses, but all doctors are males on this floor."

Ada frowned and turned to the nurses who were gossiping. "There aren't any female doctors here? Why?"

The nurses looked at each other, tacitly chose to be silent, and then hurried away.

Ada was confused. Did she frighten them away? 'No way! I may not be beautiful, but I'm not ugly either!' Just as she was doubting her appearance, a noise from the ward attracted her attention.

The doctors and a patient's family were having a quarrel. It was none of her business, so she waited for Nicole Shen there.

Chapter 2 The Collision Between Director And Intern (Part Two)

However, the argument was getting louder and louder, and they started pushing and shoving each other. Ada's first thought was to run away, but Nicole Shen had asked her to stick to him. What if he couldn't find her? What about her grades?

Before she could think of a solution, a fat man pounced on her. Ada screamed. Closing her eyes, she stretched her feet and tried to kick down the man. When she opened her eyes, she realized that she had kicked Nicole Shen instead.

He frowned at Ada with a murderous look in his eyes.

Gossips about the new female intern from the thoracic surgery department spread throughout the military hospital. Nurses from other floors came to the sixth floor to get a glimpse of the new intern whom they admired very much.

But Ada was in big trouble because of all these rumors.

"Dr. Nicole is such a legend in our hospital. He's the youngest director in history and the youngest professor in this hospital-the dream man of many women here. Some of them are even scared to approach him, and this little girl was so bold as to kick him! I'm proud of her!" one of the nurses said with a laugh.

"I totally agree!" another nurse echoed.

At the end of the day, Ada heaved a long sigh. She got out of the white gown, ready to get off work. Nicole's face had darkened ever since she had kicked him. He didn't even look at her, let alone talk to her.

It seemed to her like she might not have to return to work the next day.

She looked at her phone. There were ten messages from her mother, asking when she would come. By the time Ada reached the gate of the restaurant, her mother had called her a million times.

"Mom, I'm already here! RELAX!" Ada said into the phone impatiently.

Cora waved her hand at her daughter when she saw her at the gate. She walked towards her and said, "Oh, my dear daughter! Why are you so tired on your first day of work?"

"It's all because of you and Dad! They have forced me to work as an intern in the military hospital. So such happened already, and now, I will be dismissed and will be sent back to school." She leaned back against the sofa. She had nothing to live for anymore.

"How could this be? My daughter is smart and capable. She is amazing in martial arts-"

"Don't say anything about martial arts right now! If I weren't so damn good at it, I wouldn't be in this mess on the very first day." Ada frowned at her legs like they were at fault for her misfortune.

Cora was confused. "What the hell happened to you?"

"I kicked our director, Dr. Nicole."

"What? Nicole?"

"Yes, Nicole. Such a strange name, right? What do you think, Mom?" Ada turned around to look at her mother and saw Nicole in front of her in a dark blue suit. 'What is he doing here?'

Although she didn't know why he was there, she immediately corrected what she had said earlier. "What a nice name, isn't it?" she said with a sly smile.

Nicole was not interested in her smile. He walked straight to her and sat at her table. "Aunt Cora," he greeted her mother.

Cora smiled. "You are such a busy man, yet you made time to come. I am so happy to see you." Cora admired the handsome man in front of her. She continued hastily, "This is my Ada. It looks like you have already met."

Ada was still in shock. 'Why is he talking to my mother?'

"Yes, we have," Nicole replied indifferently.

"Ada! Say something." Cora nudged her daughter.

The corners of Ada's mouth twitched a little. If she didn't say anything, he might really kick her out of the internship. "Dr. Nicole, I really am sorry about today. Please forgive me this one time!"

"What are you saying, Ada? Introduce yourself properly first," Cora said angrily.

'Introduce?' He had already read her resume. Why did she have to introduce herself now? She stared at her mother and then at Nicole.

Sudden realization hit her.

"Mom... My blind date is with Dr. Nicole?" Ada asked, her eyes widening.

Cora touched her forehead, shaking her head.

"Aunt Cora, I'm very interested in your daughter. After all, she is the first woman who has dared to kick me. With my parents' permission and yours, I would like to get engaged first."

'Engaged?' Ada had not recovered from the attack yet, and she was already in a nightmare.

"Oh!" Cora exclaimed. "I'm so glad that you like Ada! Your mother and I have already decided to hold the engagement party this Saturday." Ada turned to look at her mother's cunning face in shock. She had already planned everything!

'Saturday? What day is it today? Thursday?'

Ada sank into the sofa, wishing for the earth to split up and swallow her whole. "Mom, I'm still too young to be-"

"You're not a kid anymore! You're twenty three years old, and Nicole is older than you. He is a capable young man and he will take good care of you. I'm relieved that my daughter is getting married to such a responsible person." The more she looked at her future son-in-law, the more satisfied she was with her decision.

"How old are you?" Ada asked absentmindedly.

Nicole replied with a smirk, "Older than you, and smarter."

She gawked at him, not knowing what to say. He was her director, and now, her fiance.

The blind date ended perfectly, except for Ada. The other two had a good meal. As they walked out of the restaurant, Ada's mother asked her to take a taxi back to the dormitory and left her behind. She sighed and was about to hail a taxi when a Hummer stopped in front of her.

"Get in," Nicole ordered.

Ada said reluctantly, "Dr. Nicole, I don't have to listen to you after work."

"Is that so? Fine. You don't have to listen to me. Tomorrow morning, I have a surgery. You can-" Before he could finish his threat, she quickly climbed into the passenger seat.

"Wow. This car is amazing. I love it!" She smiled so widely that her gums were visible.

Nicole had never before met such an impulsive girl. A shadow of a smile lingered on his lips. She was the first one to ever argue with him.

They arrived at the entrance of the dormitory. She climbed down the car, and he followed. Ada glanced at him in confusion. "Dr. Nicole, do you live here?"

"It's convenient to deal with an emergency at night," he said flatly.

Chapter 3 It's Not Her Fault

Ada nodded and walked to her dormitory. As soon as she entered, she saw that her things were in a complete mess-her suitcase was opened, her clothes were thrown around, and her bed was messed up. She quickly turned on her computer and all the documents she had prepared earlier were deleted. Ada looked around. There were three other beds and they were all neat and tidy. She fumed.

'What the hell?

How dare those girls do this to me! ' She gritted her teeth and swore to make them pay.

Ada was not one to go looking for trouble, but she was definitely not the kind of girl who ran away from a fight. Only four girls had come to the military hospital for internship, and she had already heard about the other three when she arrived in the morning.

How arrogant could they be to mess with her?

Ada knew who the mastermind was. She opened a book on the side table and found Tracy Lin's bed. She began to rummage through her things to look for evidence.

At that moment, the door of the dormitory flew open, and Ada didn't have time to retreat.

The three girls stared dumbfounded at her, especially Tracy Lin. She looked at her bed and yelled, "Ada! What are you doing near my bed?"

"Oh, you mean that doghouse? Don't worry! I think it's a good enough place for you," Ada said calmly.

Tracy Lin looked at her wrinkled quilt and screamed, "You messed up my bed, you bitch!"

Ada shrugged. "You should have thought about the consequence when you stirred up trouble. Now, you know not to mess with me."

"You- I'll tear your face apart!" Tracy Lin ran towards her, and Ada walked up to her without any hesitation.

Tracy Lin was furious. Interns selected to work at the military hospital were all top notch students from the best universities, and she was the best of the best. Tracy Lin was beautiful and came from a rich family, hence she was also arrogant since her childhood. Being the first in their school, she had also heard about Ada who always came last. Knowing that she had to work as an intern in the same hospital with her made Tracy angry.

And that was why things had turned up like this.

"Ada, Tracy! Stop it!" one of the other girls pleaded.

"I'm going to find our teacher!" the other said.

Ada grabbed Tracy's hair and kicked her stomach, but Tracy didn't show any weakness. She bit down hard on Ada's hand. When the teacher came rushing into the dormitory, both of them were bruised and still fighting.

Nicole Shen also walked in with the teacher. He frowned when he saw Ada with her messy hair and bleeding lips.

The teacher was in shock as she stared between the two girls. "What is going on here? How old are you? Don't you feel ashamed?" Lucy Zeng, the medical science department teacher, scolded.

Tracy sobbed, "It's her fault, ma'am! She messed up my bed."

Ada raised her head stubbornly, but didn't refute.

"Is this true, Ada?" Lucy Zeng asked in a raised voice.

"Yes, but-"

"Have you no sense of discipline? What did you learn in school so far? How dare you fight with others for such a childish thing?" Lucy Zeng interrupted her. "You are in the military hospital now. We demand perfect discipline here, and work under military management. Get your temper under control. This is a warning. Do you understand?"

Ada bit the tender flesh of her lips. She was not the one who had started this. So, why?

Tracy's lips curved up slightly, and a complacent smile flashed.

Lucy Zeng was dissatisfied with Ada's silence and she asked again, "Ada! Do you understand?"

Without uttering a word, Ada clenched her fists.

Nicole watched silently and looked around at the dormitory. After a while, he said, "Miss Lucy, fist fights don't happen out of nowhere. You cannot blame one person without knowing what really happened. I don't think that's appropriate."

Lucy Zeng immediately put on a smile and said, "Dr. Nicole, I am not done yet. I was just about to ask that."

Ada tried hard to hold back her embarrassment of being scolded in front of Nicole.

"Ada! Why did you mess up Tracy's bed?"

"She messed up my things first and even opened my luggage without permission." Ada glared at Tracy with red eyes.

Lucy understood that she had been one-sided earlier. She coughed slightly to hide her embarrassment and was about to question Tracy.

"I did no such thing! I was working all day long. When I returned to the dormitory, her stuff was already messed up. I don't know what happened," Tracy explained in a hurry.

Ada frowned. "There are only four keys to the dormitory-one for each of us. Linda and Arya are not as bad as you!"

Panic flashed through Tracy's eyes, but she continued to deny, "I don't know, but it was not me. Don't sling mud at me without any evidence."

Lucy nodded and turned to Ada. "Yes, you shouldn't blame others with your own speculations. I will see to it that you are punished this time. Go to the playground and run twenty laps before going to bed."

"Why am I getting punished? I have done nothing wrong!" Ada said, raising her head in defiance.

"You..." Lucy felt embarrassed.

Nicole was not satisfied with this rash punishment either. He looked up at the surveillance camera and said, "You all had work today, and Ada didn't arrive until this morning. Am I right?"

The girls nodded.

He turned to Lucy. "Check the surveillance video to see who came back to the dormitory first. That should give us the culprit. But let me make this clear first-punishment for lying is more severe here." His expression was cold, and Tracy was scared by his gaze.

Ada nodded heavily. "I agree."

Lucy felt embarrassed again, but she was afraid of offending Nicole. So, she had to agree.

As they were about to go to the monitoring room, Tracy stopped them and confessed, "Miss Lucy, I was the one who messed up Ada's luggage. I know that it was a lame thing to do, but I was so frustrated. She had such poor grades in school. She had to take make-up tests for every class! How could she get an internship here alongside me? I am ready to accept any punishment, but I want her to leave here!"

Ada was pissed. Her grades had nothing to do with Tracy. She yelled, "Leave here? What gives you the right to say that?"

Before she could roll up her sleeves for another fight, Nicole grabbed her shoulder and pulled her back.

Ada couldn't move. He was strong. She knew at that moment that if she ever got into a fight with him, she would definitely lose.

"Miss Lucy," Nicole said. "You came out of the army. You should know how to punish wrongdoers like her. I'll take Ada to the infirmary to treat her wound." Saying so, Nicole left with Ada.

Seeing their retreating figures, Lucy realized that Nicole was already familiar with Ada.

Tracy had heard of Nicole, but had never expected that he would cover for Ada.

When they arrived at the infirmary, Nicole personally dealt with Ada's wound.

"Dr. Nicole, I kicked you earlier today. Aren't you angry?" She blinked her bright black eyes at him.

"I'm a grown man. Why would I be angry with a little girl like you?" he asked with a straight face. His expression was unreadable.

Ada hissed. The wound hurt where the alcohol was applied. "Could you be gentler?"

"I didn't hear you complaining while fighting," said Nicole, casting a cold glance at her.

"I was pissed off; I had no time to care about the pain!" she scoffed. Looking at the man, a small grin appeared on her lip. "Dr. Nicole, are you really going to get engaged to me?"

His hand paused, and a picture from the past appeared in his mind. He had been engaged to someone else before, but it had ended in nothing. He didn't know what would happen this time.

"Yes."

"But we don't even like each other. In this age and era, two emotionless people shouldn't have to live together for a lifetime for the sake of their parents," Ada murmured.

Nicole taped up her wound and sat opposite her. "Try saying that to your mother."

She sighed. "She will say that if I don't agree, then Grandma will kill herself in front of me." Ada was so tired of hearing it.

Nicole couldn't bear seeing her unhappy. After all, marriage was a big deal. "Do you have someone you like?"

"Not really." She thought for a while and said, "But I can't make do with you."

'Make do with me?' His sharp eyes fell on her uninterested face.

Ada realized what she had said and quickly tried to correct her words. "I mean... That's not what I... I wasn't..." Ada was speaking incoherently again. She couldn't even look at him anymore. She had been so bold while quarrelling with Tracy earlier.

Nicole had made up his mind. "I'll tell your mother to change the engagement party into a wedding ceremony. We can get the marriage certificate after the operation tomorrow, and get married the day after tomorrow."

'What the hell?' Ada's eyes widened. She couldn't stay calm anymore. "Dr. Nicole, how can I do that? I haven't even graduated yet!"

"I've seen your grades. Your credits are not enough to get graduated. The marriage certificate will help you gain some points. This year, I'll get to watch you try and get more points in the graduation examination and barely pass it." He walked out with a smirk, while she followed him hastily.

"But, I..." Ada couldn't think of a reason to refuse the man in front of her.

When they arrived at the dormitory entrance, she still had no excuse to escape from the marriage. After all, he was perfect. Ada, on the other hand, was an ordinary girl who didn't even have a man she liked.

"Go get your stuff. You are staying in my room tonight," Nicole said abruptly.

Ada screamed and covered her chest. She couldn't stay with him just because she had seen him naked. "No way!"

He looked her up and down. Although she had a good figure and face, it was not enough to arouse his desire. "Fine, I don't object if you want to live with your roommate."

Ada thought of Tracy. 'What if she poisons me and dissects me at night? Too risky!'

"Dr. Nicole, wait! I'll be right back."

She packed up her things in a hurry and left, while Tracy looked at her with eyes full of resentment. Before leaving, Ada made sure to make a face at her.

Nicole was the director of the thoracic surgery department, and his accommodation was an apartment room. Ada wisely chose to sleep on the sofa. It was early autumn, but she was wrapped up nicely in a very thick quilt, and her clothes were tight enough to keep her safe.

Early next morning, she was shaken awake by Nicole. She got up angrily, but dared not to provoke him as soon as she saw his face.

"Good morning," she said sleepily.

"Get up and wash yourself. I'll wait for you in the canteen." Seeing that she was finally awake, he strode out, ignoring her chicken nest head.

Ada stared at Nicole's retreating back and got up to wash herself. She got ready and went to the canteen as instructed. Tracy and the others also walked in at the same time. They both glanced at the counter. There was only one egg left. Ada and Tracy rushed forward.

As a result, Ada was defeated.
