DENBRILL ARKUN BRILLIANTES' POV
I looked up at the top of our mansion when I noticed that the window of my husband's room was open. The white curtain dances because the wind blows it.
I couldn't help but look at the sky. The view was good because the sun had set but I still didn't like it. Because of the nervousness I feel.
Every step I took to enter our mansion was big but I saw my husband's beautiful red rose in the garden. I approached it and noticed that it was the rose that was difficult to bloom so I picked it even though I also knew that Lorainne would be angry. It's just amazing that they don't have thorns.
I found my youngest son Godfrey in our living room. He was focused on his laptop. He looked at my behavior and hurriedly stood up to meet me. He held my hand to guide me.
"Dad, I was going to say goodbye," he said and I glanced at his luggage on the floor.
"Why are you saying goodbye to me? You're at your Mommy's," I said shaking my head but she also looked at me.
"Hey, Dad. I finished saying goodbye to Mommy. He is in your room. He's been looking out the window for a while and I know he's been waiting for you," he said and my heart beat faster.
I stared intently at my son's face and stroked his head. Our youngest son is taller than me but he willingly bends down so that I can reach his head.
"Son, you'll be here at our mansion first," I promised weakly and I knew he saw the sadness on my face.
"Why, Dad?" he asked confused.
"Your mommy. He won't last much longer. He's going to leave me," I said and his lips parted in shock. He already knew what those terms meant.
"D-Dad... Why... Why don't we just send Mommy to another country for treatment?" he asked, his voice almost breaking into tears. I tapped him on his shoulder and smiled.
"You know your mother's body and her heart are weak. You stay here first, son," I just said and left him in the living room with tears running down his cheeks.
I opened the door of our room and at first my beautiful wife did not notice me. I wasn't wrong in my suspicion that he was on the opposite side of the window where I purposely put the sofa bed there so that he wouldn't get bored waiting for me from my work but since he became like this I chose to go first - leave the company to accompany him in his final life.
I hid the red rose behind me and he only noticed my arrival when he heard the footsteps of my shoes.
"My Don Brill," he said smiling at my name. He used to be the only one who called me Don Brill. He is the only one who gave such a name.
Even after a long time, I can still see the beauty of my beloved wife. She is still the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my entire life.
"I'm not really a don, dear. It's still better if you call me Engineer. But because my name came from you, I told people I know to call me that. Because I want... I will always remember you even if... you leave me," I said and my voice just broke.
"Honey, I won't leave you," he denied but the corners of my eyes still warmed.
Because I have a feeling... I have a feeling that now he is going to leave me. Can I just let him go?
"H-Isn't it? I guess you're getting ready, huh," I promised and gave him the thing I was hiding. A rose stem.
"This is very beautiful, Don Brill. You picked my flowers from the garden again, didn't you?" he asked.
"You are more beautiful than that rose and yes I did pick that," I answered and he laughed softly. It's enough to soften my heart. He has the best laugh I've ever heard. Except for the laughter of our children and grandchildren.
"Don Brill, remember that nothing lasts forever and we all have a place. My love, don't think that I will leave you. I...even if I disappear from your company, I will not disappear from your heart and mind. I will always stay by your side," he explained but my tears fell spontaneously and my shoulders were shaking as well. I felt his caress there. "Expensive..."
"I-I should be the first, Lorainne... I should be before you, my love..." I promised crying.
Never once did I really think that he would be ahead of me. Because that should be me. I should come first and not him. Because I can't lose her just like this. Can't we just be together?
He hugged me tightly as if this was the last time I would hug him like this. This is one I will be looking for.
"If I could stop every ticking of time I would. It hurts to let you go suddenly. But promise I'll live as long as you said. I'm coming after you. Your love for me is priceless so take my heart too, my love... You're the only woman I'll love, even in the afterlife or our next life. I love you so much, Lorainne Angeles-Brilliantes, the mother and granddaughter of my children. You are free not because I set you free, you are free because your heart wants. We will meet again, my love..." I said long and I heard her breathing deeply.
"I love you so much, Don Brill..." I could see her tears welling up. "I love you, Denbrill Arkun Brilliantes..." The last words he said made me cry the most.
My heart was so happy but there was pain and sadness, but even though the pain prevailed, I chose joy because in the last chance of his life, he still loved me. I was still the one he said those magical words to.
That was the last time I would hear his voice and saying he loved me was enough for me even though he left me completely.
My voice crying and lamenting echoed in the four corners of our room. At that door I saw my son fall to the floor while he was still holding back his crying. With a gesture of my hand, he slowly stood up and approached us.
He positioned himself behind his mother and like a child nuzzled her neck while she was still crying.
"M-Mommy..."
That's what my children found and it seemed too heavy for them to step up just to come to us. I let them hug their lifeless mother and cry in her arms.
I taught them how to hide their true emotions and be serious about their lives but not to the point where it's like they just came back from childhood. They bring out the true attitude and show vulnerability.
There is pain in my heart and yet the joy is still there because I know that my beloved woman, my wife, will no longer feel pain.
He's free now, even though it's still very painful for him to leave us like this. Even though I had prepared, I still couldn't stop not being hurt and crying too much.
Who wouldn't be hurt when you lose someone you love so much? Who can't cry when the one you love that you draw strength from is also gone?
But still I chose to accept it. Because I know that we will meet again, not even in this time and in this world.
I looked outside. I left with my husband in the setting sun. Although half of my life was lost, the fruits of our love were left behind.
With my tears falling and closing my eyes I returned to the memory, where Lorainne and I first met.
The girl I can't even say I loved first is still everything to me. My life...
I am Denbrill Arkun Brilliantes, better known as Don Brill nickname given to me by my wife. At the age of sixty-four, Lorainne left, but that doesn't mean that our love will end forever. Because I know it will continue forever.
LORAINNE A. ANGELES' POV
I let out SEVERAL sighs and my chest is still tight. Something in me wants to cry. The one who cried in sadness and grief. Because today my parents will be buried.
It was too early for them to leave me alone. But what can I do if it's their time?
Mom and Dad are currently abroad, due to my father's business trip and Mom just accompanied him. But when they were on their way home, the plane crashed. Plane crashed.
I'm still excited for them to come back because of the last conversation between the three of us. I almost couldn't sleep waiting for them but this is the only thing that will happen the next day.
Knowing that my beloved mother and father are gone. It was really painful to leave them both. Because I didn't prepare for it. I thought it would be a long time before they left me.
I took a deep breath again and looked around. The people who attended Mama and Papa's funeral were all dressed in black. Sadness, pity and sympathy for me can be seen on their faces.
Bad weather is coming, the clouds are dark and heavy rain is coming. The wind is cool and it dances with the leaves of the trees.
I could hear the crying of our housemates who fell in love with our family but I kept a blank expression and did not cry. I did not show any sadness and division. Even inside, my heart is breaking too much.
It hurts to lose them, because you'll wake up one morning and you won't be able to see the people who are important to you and the ones you love the most. This is what it really feels like to lose a loved one in life. But we can do nothing but accept the fate that has been given to them. That's all they are up to.
I didn't move when I saw the white coffin slowly descend. It is full of flowers.
"Miss Lorainne?" Ate Lessa called me. She is my personal maid, but her job is easy. Just take care of me. We are ten years apart from each other. "You alright?" he asked.
"You will not be well when you are in this situation, Ate Lessa. Yes, you will receive it one day but first you will go through sadness, hardship and grief. But will you be able to face tomorrow when your parents are no longer with you? This is our life, Sister. Full of surprises," I promised and smiled bitterly.
Our family is rich. We have lands in the province and I have a shop here in Manila. But I'm still studying and in my third year of college. I preferred the course that I thought I could use for something one day.
"Miss?" he called me again.
"Go home first, Sister Lessa."
"But Señorita? Heavy rain is coming. Where else are you going?" he asked worriedly.
I turned to him and smiled lightly. "Let's go," I said and he breathed a sigh of relief. Because I'm coming and I won't be left here any longer.
He immediately prepared our umbrella and then we started walking and just as we were in front of our car a man approached us. He was also holding an umbrella because it was starting to mist.
"Who are you?" Ate Lessa asked the man.
"I am Atty. Franklin, Señorita Lorainne. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you now when your parents are about to be buried. But Sir Angeles asked me not to postpone his last will," he said.
"But, Attorney. You can talk to our lady tomorrow," Ate Lessa told them.
"I'm with someone your father trusts, Señorita," he insisted and I took a deep breath.
"If that's the case. You just follow us and we'll talk at the mansion," I said to which he nodded and we finally got into the car.
I looked out of the window because I could see the darkness around me because the rain was still falling and it was still very strong.
I also see a Hummer vehicle following us. I knew it was Attorney Franklin's car. But the only thing I wonder is why is his car like that? Is that the kind of car that guys his age want?
In the middle of our trip, the car suddenly stopped and my head hit the windshield. I rubbed it gently. It doesn't hurt, but we are people like this, who still need to touch and caress something that doesn't really hurt, right?
"Mr Nelo? What's going on?" Ate Lessa asked and I sat up straight.
"Lessa, I'm sorry Señorita. It's only increased because the flood here is sudden and it's difficult for our car to pass," he said with difficulty.
In this situation we will be lucky?
"What are we going to do so we can leave immediately?" I asked calmly.
"There is another way but it will take us a long time and I know you are tired. But it will take a long time for this car to work again because it seems that the floodwaters entered." I was about to answer when someone knocked on Mang Nelo's window. He opened the door even though it was raining heavily. I did not hear the two of them talking. But soon they were finished. "Señorita, you can switch cars to Attorney Franklin so that you don't have to wait too long here."
I looked at the Hummer that stopped behind us. "Are you with me?" I will ask.
"You are the only one who moved, Señorita. We'll just go through the others." Sister Lessa answered.
I was tired and I didn't protest anymore. I opened the door on my side and let out another sigh. I looked at my black shoes that were two inches high. It's a waste of time for me to just get it wet with flood water.
"Oh, Señorita. The flood is really high," Ate Lessa said. "I'll come down to load you," he presented but I stopped him.
"Just stay here, Sister Lessa. I will go down," I said.
"But Señorita..." I waved my hand to make him shut up. He just gave me the umbrella.
But before I could get down, a tall man stopped at the open door of our car. He was wearing a black raincoat and he was also wearing rubber boots.
I tried to look at his face because it was already wet from the rain but it was covered by the hat of the raincoat and there was still a strand of hair. I also saw his sharp nose. It's still dark so I can't see his whole face.
But I could feel the coldness in his eyes while he was also staring at me. He smiled and held out his hand. I looked at it and his palm was so big that it looked like it could cover both of my palms.
Is he also Attorney Franklin's personal driver? Or a bodyguard? Because of the size of his body.
"Who are you?" two words escaped my mouth. He took another sip and sighed.
"Go ahead, Señorita. Come down because you are getting wet from the rain," said Ate Lessa as if she also trusted this man.
He took the umbrella and opened it himself then he gave it to me. My hair stood up when his long fingers touched my hand.
I didn't expect what he would do but he picked me up effortlessly. My hands were quick to fix the umbrella and we were not wet by the heavy rain.
My left arm wrapped around his neck, while my other hand was holding the umbrella. His arms are also around my back and the other is under my legs. He cleared out his throat again and I looked at his Adam's apple which was rising and falling. I frowned.
My hug tightened around his neck because he fixed the cover on me. I kept leaning on his hard chest and I could hear its fast beating. It's great to listen to, she sounds even better than the music I hear. Why am I so beautiful with the heartbeat of a person and a man?
He started walking and I know it's hard when there's a flood but with his height and size he didn't even have a hard time.
We approached the hummer parked on the side of the road and its door was already open. He carefully lowered me into the car. It didn't rain on my head because it was just my leg.
He removed the umbrella from my hand and closed it then gave it to me again. He turned around in the driver's seat and when he was riding, I only saw his gentle face there.
Our eyes met and for reasons I don't know, my heart suddenly started beating faster. I closed my chest because it seemed like my heart was going to come out from the force of its beating.
THANKS to the light coming from his hummer and I saw his perfect face. Also because he got wet from the rain earlier, his hair is still wet but it's still nice to see because his forehead is covered up to his eyes but you can still see the eyes.
His eyebrows are thick, his cold eyes are dark and his nose is piercing. His jaw seems to be molded so perfectly. Her lips were red.
He has broad shoulders and his height is really obvious. He is a very handsome man and he is also very handsome. I've seen many men with good looks but I think his handsomeness is more dominant.
My heart is still beating fast and I also feel something in my stomach.
"Staring is rude, Miss," he said and his voice was cold. I avoided looking at him and just focused on the opposite car that was slowly moving.
I frowned because it was going straight. I thought they would go in another direction? But why are they driving straight?
When I remembered something, I looked at the backseat. "Miss Lorainne." I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw Attorney Franklin sitting in the backseat.
Because I can't stand the atmosphere inside the car when I know I'm with a stranger.
"Sorry for the little glitch," I only said because I was still riding with them.
"Nothing, Señorita," he said.
"Miss, fasten your seatbelt," the man next to me, who was in the driver's seat, calmly ordered me. I cleared out my throat and was about to fasten the seatbelt on my body when I struggled. I frowned. Is the seatbelt different in a hummer and a regular car?
I heard the man's taste again and the back of my neck went numb when he leaned over to fasten my seatbelt. I almost couldn't breathe because of his closeness to me. It seemed that I was already frozen from my seat but when his strong perfume hit my nose, I blew air out of my mouth.
I felt that he was also stunned because it just hit his neck. I closed my eyes tightly and bit my bottom lip which almost bled.
He also separated afterwards. He didn't move anymore and he started the car completely. When we arrived at the mansion, I first removed the seatbelt. I am very thankful that I was able to remove it. I took another deep breath.
Attorney Franklin and the man with him got off first, who might just be his driver?
I was about to get down when the man stopped in front of me. I stared at his handsome face again. He opened his palm like he did to me earlier. He really is the type of man who will not hesitate to extend his hand to help others. That's the kind of person I want in everyone.
I accepted that and felt the electricity again flowing from his hand and towards me. His car was too high and I really had trouble getting down. My lips almost parted when I felt his arm around my waist again to lift me down.
I remembered that I didn't thank him earlier.
"Thank you," I said briefly when I stepped on the ground. Ate Lessa immediately greeted me with a white bimpo in her hand. He gave it to me but instead of using it I approached the man who was removing his rubber boots. "Here, use the bimpo first. Attorney Franklin. You can go inside first. I will prepare coffee for you."
"Thank you, Señorita," he said with a smile. I waited for the man to take the bimpo from me.
When he finished taking off his rubber boots and raincoat he folded his pants up to his knees. He stood up and stared at my face before his eyes dropped to the bimpo in my hand that had been waiting for him to take it.
"Take a shower upstairs first and I'll prepare the room," I said. He first wiped his face but didn't take his eyes off me. I couldn't handle it because the depth was too deep and I felt like I would drown.
When I started to walk in I felt her following. I turned to him and the white bimpo was already wrapped around him. My eyes fell on his shoeless feet.
"It's okay," he said in a soft voice but the coldness in his voice was still there. He must have guessed the way I was staring because he wasn't even wearing anything.
His complexion can still be seen there, it is white and reddish. He doesn't look like just a driver but his arms seem like his veins are screaming. It's really nice to see.
We went upstairs because I saw Sister Lessa attending to Attorney Franklin from below. Because my thoughts were different and I was about to go up the stairs, I almost fell because my hug didn't reach a step.
I'm still strong. "Miss Lorainne!" They shouted my name when they saw my situation.
I closed my eyes and was about to roll over but a strong force grabbed me-I mean someone grabbed me from behind. I leaned against his hard chest and his right arm was on my waist again. I immediately clung to his arm, I grabbed it even though it was behind me.
One of his hands is taking balance on the handle of the ladder so that we don't fall completely. The pounding in my chest because I thought it was really the end of me earlier. I still prepared myself for my fall.
I was still stunned because I heard a loud bang behind me. I opened my mouth to speak but he already promised me. I was clinging to his neck. I couldn't protest anymore.
"Where is the room we're going to?" he asked casually. I was actually staring at his Adams apple before I turned to face us because he might notice what I did.
"That door. Our guest room," I answered.
"Where is your room, then?" he asked more. I looked at my door with a green flower made of paper. I just pointed it out and didn't ask any more questions when we headed there.
I turned it open and then we went inside. He carefully put me down on my bed. He knelt down in front of me and there was the strong thump on my chest again.
"Just a moment. What will you do?" I asked confused because he removed the black shoes I was wearing with heels.
He didn't say a word and just brought my sole to his thigh. I'm still embarrassed because I'm wearing white socks. Maybe later on he will smell something that is not good there.
He just removed it and gently massaged it which gave me a tickle. The size of his palm. I can feel the roughness and heat of it.
"Does it hurt?" he asked me. I shook my head. He paid attention to one of my legs.
"All right. H-I wasn't hurt," I stammered.
"Next time. Be careful. You should not be harmed because you will give birth to our first child." I don't know if what I heard was true and I wasn't just wrong. But it looks like he said something else because he immediately stood up and then left me inside my room.
I was stunned for a few seconds before I thought of getting clothes for her. I quickly shook my head and stood up.
Attorney Franklin's driver was a gentleman.
It's heavy inside me to go to my parents' room because I just remember them. So I didn't stay there too long. I only take clothes that my father has never used.
I went to our guest room and knocked before I opened it but I stopped when I saw her naked backside-I mean I only saw that part of her body because she was wearing a bimpo.
"Come in." Seriously, how is he able to speak in such a soft voice just like this?
"Just get your clothes. Don't worry, my father hasn't used it yet," I promised and didn't even glance at him. Because maybe what else will I see that I won't like.
He took it. "Thank you," he said and I quickly left there. I returned to my room with a strange beating in my heart.
I only changed my clothes because I still have a guest waiting for me downstairs. Is the man on the stairs again who seems to be waiting for me? Or maybe it's just me assuming? I just shook my head again and continued to descend. I deliberately slowed down my walk so that I wouldn't catch up with him, so when he noticed that, he got off first.
Why is my heart beating like this? I feel restless, ah. There's something I feel that I can't explain.
