Chapter 1 2

A Leader Among the Forsaken

Lena hesitated and then took a small sip. The warmth spread through her softening the rigor of her nerves in her chest. She set the mug down and looked at Luna Celeste "You said I have power, what do you mean?"

Luna Celeste sat down in the chair across from her, and her face turned solemn. "The gifts of the Moon Goddess are rare, but she never bestows them, much like her gifts, for no reason. You were born during a blood moon, was it not?"

Lena's eyes widened. "How do you know that?"

"Because it's a mark of the chosen," said Luna Celeste. "You have a connection to the Moon Goddess that hardly anyone else can claim. That's why Kade's rejection didn't totally break your connection. It's still there, right?"

Lena's breath hitched. She had felt it, a faint but unbroken thread of the mate bond. "Yes," she admitted. "But what does that mean?"

"That means you're not just any wolf," Luna Celeste said, with a determined voice. "You are destined for something greater. But destiny does not wait. You need to accept your power or you will be devoured by all the forces that are gathering against you."

Lena leaned forward, gripping the chair's arms with her hands. "What forces? What are you talking about?"

Luna Celeste's gaze fell. "A rogue leader is rising to the shadows. Elias Voss. He's building an army, and he doesn't stop until he has destroyed everything in his path-your pack included."

Lena's heart pounded. "My pack?"

"Yes," Luna Celeste replied. "And Kade's. The Blood Moon Pack and the Silver Ridge Pack are both part of his plans. But the Moon Goddess chose you, Lena. You have the power to stop him but it all depends on if you are ready to fight."

The weight of her words pressed down on Lena. She'd spent her life thinking she was nothing more than a daughter to a Beta, someone meant to follow the lead but never to take charge. Now, two packs' destinies rested on her shoulders.

Lena stood, her hands shaking but her voice clear. "What do I have to do?"

Luna Celeste smiled a proud smile. "First, you need to learn who you are, then become the wolf that the Moon Goddess always intended you to be."

Lena stood at the far end of the rogue camp, a gusty wind nipping at her cheeks while murmurs of discontent swirled around her. For weeks she had proven herself among them and a tough grit determination and unbreakable resolve but tonight was different. The rogues congregated as their leader stepped forward a man towering over most with the name Garrick. A snarl was carved into his already scarred face.

"You've been talking big, Beta's daughter," Garrick said, spitting out the words in a voice that cut through the crowd. "But it was never about words. It's strength that leads us. You are just a girl who got rejected by her mate. Why should we follow you?"

Lena's heart raced but she kept her voice steady and her eyes locked on his "Because I'm the only one here who's prepared to stand for something beyond revenge or survival."

You can fight each other over scraps, and for what? To keep living like this? I offer a different path-you can be more than outcasts."

Garrick stepped forward, exposing his fangs. "Such great words. But can you prove it? Let's see if the Moon Goddess gave you anything worth following." He lunged without warning and his claws cutting through the air.

Lena's instincts were almost razor, sharp now as she dodged. He caught her in an attempt to kick and she responded with a lightning kick to the ribs that sent him stumbling backward. Gasps rippled through the crowd as Garrick growled and his eyes glowing amber.

"You think you can take me?" he sneered circling her "You're just a girl playing Alpha"

"And you're just a bully pretending to lead" Lena retorted dodging the blow once more. Her tone was fierce but the harshness of her words sliced raw into her insecurities. She couldn't give in now; not here and not today.

The fight escalated into a flurry of claws and snarls. Lena gasped raggedly for breath, but that only made her more determined. This was not simply a battle against Garrick; it was all the doubts, all the rejections, every moment she had been told she was not enough.

"You don't understand leadership," Lena shouted, narrowly avoiding a particularly vicious swipe. "It's not about strength or volume. It's about hope-giving people hope, a future they can fight for!"

Garrick roared back and lunged again, but this time Lena was prepared. She side-stepped him and struck with all her might connecting her fist squarely on his jaw. The crowd broke into a murmur as he doubled over on the ground groaning.

Lena stood over him breathing hard "That's not how I want to rule you" her voice pierced the shocked silence. "But I'll lead you because it has to be done by someone. Someone who cares about more than just living."

A slow clap broke the tension and Lena, turning back, saw an older woman approach. Her silver hair caught the moonlight, and her eyes held a wisdom that seemed to pierce through Lena's very soul.

"Luna Celeste" Garrick rasped pulling himself to his feet and bowing his head "What are you doing here?"

Celeste ignored him and kept her gaze on Lena "You've got spunk girl" she said and her voice soft but authoritative. "But spunk isn't going to rescue them. What makes you think you can take these rogues to a higher level?"

Lena met her gaze, and the same determination that filled her rushed back at her. "It's not just faith," she replied emphatically. "It's a must. It's on me."

Celeste studied her for a moment then nodded. "If so, we have much of talk," she said. Turning to the crowd, her voice rang with authority. "This girl has proven herself tonight. Anyone who dares challenge her leadership now will answer to me."

The murmurs died away, and a grudging respect took its place. Lena swallowed hard, the weight of what she had just taken on settling over her. But as she looked at the faces around her, some skeptical, some hope, she felt a spark of something she hadn't felt in weeks.....purpose.

Chapter 2 3

Awakening the Power Within

Celeste leaned in close speaking softly "You've got potential kid but if you're going to follow these wolves, you'll have to tap into the power the Moon Goddess gave you. Dawn meet us and we begin"

Lena nodded, determination setting her jaw. This was only the beginning of the battle but for the first time she felt almost certain it was going to be won. And and she wasn't about to let that slip.

The dawn's first light showed the countryside in a tapestry of gold and crimson as if it were painted. Lena stood at the center and her breaths making mist in the still cold morning air. Luna Celeste observed her with a calm intensity, her silver hair gleamed just like that very moon itself.

"You came" said Celeste and her lips pulling into a faint smile "Good, i wasn't sure you would be brave enough"

Lena stiffened and squared her shoulders "I didn't come this far to give up now"

"Bold words," Celeste said, stepping closer. Her eyes seemed to strip Lena naked. "But boldness is not enough. The power within you is ancient and primal. If you don't master it, it will master you and are you prepared for that?"

Lena hesitated, thinking of the rejection, the pain, the long nights wondering why she wasn't good enough. She tightened her fists. "I've been through worse."

Celeste nodded, her expression softening. "Then let's begin."

She gestured for Lena to take her place among the circle of runes carved into the earth. The moment Lena sat down, the space around her vibrated as though with some force. Celeste knelt beside her, palm hovering above Lena's heart.

"The power of the Moon Goddess is based on your feelings," Celeste said. "That is your hurts, your rage, your love-all of them are the energy. But you have to be careful very much. Once you lose yourself in that then probably will not be better than the creatures we oppose to."

She closed her eyes as if to take a deep breath "What do I have to do?"

"Let it out," Celeste said simply.

Lena frowned. "What do you mean, 'let it out'?"

Celeste's voice grew firmer. "It lies within you, Lena, buried beneath all the hurt you carry. No more suppression; let it out. Show me your strength, Lena. Show yourself."

Lena was ready to contradict but when she sensed the air around her everything changed. The feelings in her weighted her down-the disapproval, the disgrace, the anger-pinned down on her heart. She gasped, asher body trembled as the energy surged within her.

"I can't" she stammered.

"You can," Celeste said sharply. "You've carried this pain long enough. Release it!"

The command struck a chord deep within Lena. Her fists clenched as images flooded her mind. Kade's cold eyes as he rejected her and the crowd's mocking laughter. The lonely nights spent in the wilderness.

"You're weak Lena" Kade had echoed those words so often that it now felt like a blade inside her mind.

With a loud voice that reverberated in the clearing Lena screamed, "I'm not weak!"

A brilliant light erupted from her body, its force staggering Celeste back. The earth beneath Lena split, and the runes flared to life, shining with an otherworldly blue light. The wind screamed, slicing through the branches as Lena filled with strength.

Celeste raised her hand to shield her eyes from the chaos and yelled, "You have to control it, Lena! Don't let it control you!"

But Lena was lost in the storm of her emotions. It was intoxicating and a relief from all that she had imprisoned within herself. She stood up and her eyes glowing with the same blue light as the runes.

"This is who I am" she said and the tone of her voice was sharp and infused with an echo of otherworld. "This is their rejection of it"

"Lena!" Celeste shouted, breaking the fog. "Listen to me, this power is not for destruction it's for healing, for protection. Concentrate!"

The words hit too close to home and pulled Lena back from the brink. She gazed around at the chaos she had wrought the shattered ground, the raging winds and the terror in Celeste's gaze.

"This isn't me" Lena said crying much faster than she could sob. She shut her eyes and breathed in unsteadily. "This isn't how I want to be"

Slowly the light dimmed and the wind died down. The runes paled and only the sound of Lena's ragged breathing remained. It was then she fell to her knees, trembling.

Celeste came closer to her with caution, keeping a light hand on her shoulder. "You did it" she whispered.

Lena shook her head. "I lost control. I almost"

"But you didn't" Celeste interrupted. "You held back and that's what counts"

Lena looked up at her and her glowing eyes filled with tears "What if I can't control it again? What if I hurt somebody?"

Celeste's expression was determined but gentle. "Then we'll train harder. You're stronger than you think Lena and you're not alone in this"

The words enveloped Lena like a warm blanket relieving her of the stiffening fear close to her cold. She nodded and wiped her tears. "Thank you" she said softly.

Celeste smiled "Thank me by using this power wisely. The war is coming Lena, and when it does, you'll need every ounce of strength you've got"

Positioned there, Lena's legs still shook but she was now more determined than ever. "I'll be ready," she said, her voice did not waver. "I won't let them down."

The sun climbed higher, streaming its golden light into the glade, and Lena knew this was only the beginning. For the first time, she felt almost sure that she could meet whatever was coming next-and win.

The campfires flickered low in the clearing as the rogues gathered and their faces cast in dancing shadows. A murmur of unease stirred among them. Lena was the center but could not make her gaze cross all those waiting for her to speak and to lead. But tonight another storm was brewing on the horizon and unbeknown to her, it was a bigger one.

Chapter 3 4

A Shattered Alliance

The arrival of Elias Voss had sent a chill through her core. His reputation preceded him: a rogue Alpha with an army of wolves loyal to his every command. His silver hair flashed in the moonlight as he stood before her, and his bright eyes did not meet hers but just looked at her with mockery.

"So," Elias drew out, his voice a silk over steel. "This is the infamous Lena Hart, the rejected mate who thinks she can gather the lost and broken."

Lena's jaw tightened. She stepped forward, holding his gaze. "Let me guess, you're the little coward who needs to prey on the weak to build your army? What do you want from me, Elias?"

Elias laughed, a soft but sinister sound. "I want to see for myself if the tales are true. It's said that you have been gathering rogues and encouraging them. It is also said that you are destined for greatness. All I see is a little girl pretending to be brave."

The crowd murmured, the tension thick in the air. Lena felt the weight of their doubts pressing down on her but she wasn'T going to back down.

"Then you're blind," she said, her voice steady even though her heartbeat was thrumming fast. "These wolves come to me because I have their trust. I don't need to scare or control them like you do."

Elias smiled and stepped a little closer. "Oh, I do not need to manipulate anyone. My wolves follow me because they know I will lead them to victory. You are in my way right now."

"Victory over what?" Lena retorted, her voice edged. "Silver Ridge? Blood Moon? This isn't leadership, Elias; it's ruin. You're shattering everything the Moon Goddess blessed us with."

Elias's face darkened, and his voice became a growl of menace. "The Moon Goddess left us long ago. We're just her janitors after the mess she left behind."

Lena's chest burned with rage, and her hands closed into fists. "No. You're just a bigger tyrant, using fear to get what you want. But you can't take these wolves from me."

Elias gazed with a sinister smile, "And we shall see."

Before Lena could respond, Garrick-still smarting from their earlier fight-stepped forward. His loyalty had wavered since Elias arrived, and now it was about to crack.

"Lena," Garrick said, his voice heavy with doubt, "maybe Elias is right. He has an army. He has proven himself. Perhaps we should join him rather than fight a battle we will lose."

Lena spun around to him, her voice echoing with authority. "Is that what you think, that we should abandon everything we've fought for to follow a killer?"

Elias interjected smoothly, his voice dripping with feigned sincerity. "Murder is such a stiff word. I like to think of myself as a visionary."

"Enough!" Lena shouted, her voice slicing through the building tension. She turned back to the crowd, her eyes roving over their faces. "Listen up! I may not know how to feel about this situation, or even where I'm supposed to be, but we have a choice. We have the opportunity to create something better. We can follow someone different than he is- someone who only cares about his power."

His eyes narrowed, and for a second he lost his calmness. "Take care Lena. You don't want to make me your enemy."

"You already are" Lena answered icily. "And if you think you can intimidate me into submission then you're mistaken"

In the crowd there was a nervy movement, something like the tension of an electric current that is about to discharge. Lena concluded rightly that this was the climax defining her leadership-that moment she would either climb up or tumble down.

Elias stepped closer, his voice becoming low and threatening. "I'll hand you one thing; you're brave. But bravery isn't going to help you when the war comes, and it's coming, Lena. You can stand with me or fall."

Lena met his gaze, her voice calm but unyielding. "Then I guess I'll fall, but I won't stand beside anyone who ruins everything I believe in."

The smile was back on Elias' face but his eyes didn't reflect it. "Fine. You know what you want to do. Let's see if your wolves are as loyal as they seem to be."

With that he turned and walked away, his wolves following behind him. The clearing was hushed all of a sudden, the importance of what he said fill heavy in the atmosphere.

Taking a step towards the audience, Lena's voice cut through the silence. 'If any of you would want to go with him, I will not discourage you. But just know- if you choose his course then you will be walking out on all we have been fighting for'

The silence stretched on, and one by one the wolves began to step forward-not toward Elias but Lena. Garrick hesitated but finally bowed his head.

"I'm with you," he muttered.

Lena nodded, and relief washed over her. But looking at the faces surrounding her, she knew the fight wasn't over yet. War had been declared by Elias, and the blowswere only a formality now.
