Episode 1

Cynthia, was only 18 years old when she ran away from home.

Cynthia hailed from a wealthy family, but still, she felt unloved and unwanted.

Cynthia's step-sister, Amber, treated her horribly and it offends Cynthia to know that her parents weren't going to stop Amber from humiliating her.

It broke her heart to know that her mother especially wasn't going to do anything about it.

One cold Christmas day, Cynthia decided to visit her paternal grandfather who was living not too far away!

"Grandfather is the only one who loves me, it's obvious you and Dad, doesn't care about me, I don't want to spend Christmas here, I'm tired of being humiliated and I dont want your husband to yell at me again, I want to visit grandpa," Cynthia said to her mother who stared at her daughter almost in tears.

It was obvious that it broke her heart to hear her daughter refer to her father in that manner.

"I love you a lot my child, I wish I could tell you how much I love you, I want to explain everything to you right now but my hands are tied," Cynthia's mother thought, all she wanted that moment was to clear up the misunderstanding between her and her daughter.

But the promise she made to her husband, 10 years ago, held her back.

Cynthia's mother cleared her throat and said in a low tone

" Cynthia, you have my permission, go visit your grandpa"

Without saying a word, Cynthia left her mother's presence.

Soon she left the huge compound that she grew up in, and soon she arrived at her grandfather's house, on seeing his favorite granddaughter on Christmas day, the old man welcomed Cynthia in smiles.

"I knew you will come today, my child you are the only one that cares for me, I want you to know that my heart blesses you, you are blessed my child, you don't know how lonely I have been all morning," The old man said in smiles.

Apart from spending Christmas with her grandfather, Cynthia was there to find out from the old man, if she was her parent's daughter, as she had begun to feel like a stranger in her parent's house.

She couldn't understand why her step-sister Amber gets all their parent's love while all she got was penalties and scolding.

It was so disheartening for the Teenager as her parents especially her father always choose Amber over her. Her father would scold and chastise her because of Amber, and it's painful for her especially when she wasn't wrong.

She still couldn't understand why Amber was her stepsister.

So if Amber was her stepsister then her mother might not be her real mother, She had thought

An hour later, Cynthia and her grandfather had lunch together and after their meal, they sat down in the living room watching television. Some moments later,

Cynthia was elated when her grandfather surprised her with a Christmas present, when she opened it, she was thrilled when she saw a brand new smartphone.

She remembered how many times she had begged her parents for a smartphone, instead, her father bought a smartphone for Amber.

Cynthia hugged her grandfather happily as she thanked him

After some time, Cynthia threw in.

"Grandpa, Who is my real mother?"

And the old man replied "your mother of course"

"If she is truly my mother, then who is Amber's real mother?" Cynthia asked curiously.

And the old man replied again

"Amber's mother is long dead, she is your father's first wife, she died while Amber was just 5 years old" Grandfather replied and Cynthia was shocked

"I am 3 years older than Amber, if Amber's mother died while she was 5 years old, then that means I was 8 years old at the time, Grandpa if Amber's mother was my father's first wife, does that mean my mother was a Mistress at the time, I'm I THE DAUGHTER OF A MISTRESS?" Cynthia concluded.

Cynthia's grandfather didn't know much about the issue as his son had always been distant from him. Cynthia's father wasn't that close to his old man.

All the old man could remember was that he forced his son to marry Amber's late mother, at the time all the old man wanted was to cement his relationship with his best friend, who had a beautiful daughter, after much disagreement between the father and son, Cynthia's father agreed to marry Amber's late mother and in no time they bore Amber and five years after, Amber's mother died.

The old man was quiet and lost in thoughts that he had no idea that Cynthia had taken his silence for a "yes".

Grandfather was so lost in his thoughts that he did not know when Cynthia stormed out of the living room with her new smartphone.

When the old man came out of his thoughts, he was shocked to find out that her granddaughter had left without saying goodbye.

From that day, Cynthia's hatred for her parents increased, most especially, she hated her mother, for being A MISTRESS to a man that was already married.

Amber wasn't helping matters as she always looked for an opportunity to get Cynthia into trouble with her father.

One day, Amber was sighted eating her meal, while Cynthia was sitting down quietly, watching television.

A while ago, her mother had instructed her to do the dishes and she was done with that chore as she sat down quietly in the living room, watching television, and then Amber's voice came resounding from the dinner table.

"Hey you" Amber a 15 years old spoiled brat, said pointing to Cynthia.

"Hey you Cynthia, I'm calling you, can't you see that I am done eating, you should come over here and take these dirty dishes to the kitchen and make sure to wash them thoroughly " Amber entered rudely.

"Amber, are you mad? I'm I your mate, I am 18 years old now, I am three years older than you and you still have the gut to order me around, take your dirty dishes to the kitchen, and wash them, you are no longer a child and I can't be cleaning after you all the time" Cynthia entered.

Amber responded rudely as she cursed and insulted Cynthia.

"Cynthia you are useless! You are wicked, just like your mother, you are a curse to this family, you a useless DAUGHTER OF A useless MISTRESS, you an illegitimate daughter of this family, you might be older but I'm the only legitimate daughter of this family, all father owns will one-day become mine, wait and see" Amber said arrogantly while Cynthia was Speechless, as she stared at her troublesome stepsister shockingly.

Cynthia didn't say a word to Amber, she just ignored her and focused on the TV.

But Amber suddenly had an idea, she always loved it when their father would scold or rebuke Cynthia

Amber quickly ran into their father's bedroom to report Cynthia.

Mr. Stephen, their father was working on his laptop when Amber walked into his bedroom in tears.

Mr. Stephen always hated to see Amber in tears, her mother was long gone and He had vowed to be there for his motherless daughter.

No wonder, he pampered Amber and neglected Cynthia because he had thought, "Cynthia has her mother, while Amber has only me"

So he unconsciously pampered and spoilt Amber while he also unconsciously neglected and wronged Cynthia.

"My princess, what happened to you?" Mr. Stephen asked.

"It's Cynthia, she hit me, she slapped me and she hit my head on the wall" Amber lied.

At the mention of Cynthia, Mr. Stephen growled "Cynthia!"

He reached for his belt and headed straight to the living room.

Episode 2

On getting to the living room, Mr. Stephen pounced on Cynthia with the belt in his right hand, he never bothered to hear Cynthia's side of the story, the senseless man concluded that Cynthia was wrong.

When he was done hitting Cynthia with the belt, he warned Cynthia sternly

" you should stop bothering Amber, you are 3 years older than her, still you behave like a child"

When Mr. Stephen left the sitting room, Amber gave out a mocking sound and she was in smiles, it was obvious she enjoyed the show. She was delighted as she glared at Cynthia mockingly.

"That serves you right," Amber said mockingly.

And Cynthia replied, "Don't be happy because you succeeded in destroying someone's life with lies, a time will come for you to cry".

Cynthia's mother who had been watching the two girls from a distance, shook her head in pity, at the same time, she was marveled at the wise words that escaped her young daughter's mouth, The confused woman observed the whole drama from a distance, she saw how Amber mocked her daughter.

"Why would Stephen treat our daughter unfairly, no it's not right, Cynthia is also her daughter, I have never differentiated between Cynthia and Amber, I considered them both my children, he has spoilt Amber so much, that she has become so troublesome, I know why I'm keeping quiet" Cynthia's mother, Mrs. Felicia thought sadly.

She decided to speak to her husband about it and make him change his behavior towards Cynthia, their daughter.

Directly she headed straight to her husband's bedroom to have a word with him. Once she got into her husband's bedroom,

She tabled her displeasure and reminded her husband of how he held Cynthia in his arms on the day she was born.

"I won't forget how you held a little Cynthia in your arms and you promised to protect her with your life and you blessed her in smiles, Cynthia is still that baby you once promised to love and protect" Mrs. Felicia reminded her husband in a low tone

but her husband's response was disappointing.

"Cynthia is no longer a child, and don't forget Amber is also my child, Cynthia is the older one, she has to be responsible and well behaved, I don't know why she keeps bothering poor Amber, what has the motherless child done to Cynthia, warn her, I would deal with her, if she keeps bothering Amber, do you expect me to ignore her when she misbehaves, she deserves the beating she got" Mr. Stephen replied straightforwardly.

He avoided having eye contact with his wife as he knew well enough that his wife was angry with him, Instead of listening to his wife's complaint, he blamed Cynthia!

And that boiled Cynthia's mother.

"I don't like the way you are always siding Amber if my daughter ever feels rejected again, I will have no choice but to set things right, enough is enough," Mrs. Felicia said with a straight face.

And then walked away.

She went straight to her daughter's bedroom and was surprised to meet her absence, instead, she saw a note that was written by her daughter, Cynthia had left a note on her dresser. The note reads

"I feel like I'm not needed here, I'm leaving, don't bother to look for me because you will never find me, I'm going far away"

Cynthia's mother almost lost her breath but when she comported herself, she stormed her husband's bedroom with the note on her left hand

"You see, my daughter had left the house all because of you, I warned you, now see, I don't know that you are a selfish man, I have been patient but not anymore if anything happens to my daughter, I will burn down this house" Mrs. Felicia growled and at the same time she cried

Mr. Stephen was so shocked but he tried his best to console his wife.

"Don't be scared, nothing will happen to our daughter, she must have moved to my father's house, you know how close they are, I'm going there right now to bring our daughter home"

And Cynthia's mother believe her husband cared.

Mr. Stephen reached for his car key and zoomed off to his father's house.

It has been two years since he visited his father, they share no bond but the only person who constantly visited him was Cynthia, her granddaughter.

Mr. Stephen was positive that he would find her first daughter at his father's house.

On getting there, his father was shocked to see him.

With a frowned face he asked

"Stephen, why are you here? Did you suddenly remember that you have a father?"

"I'm not a child that will always need his father, after all, I always make sure you have food and money, or do you think you are still a wealthy man" Mr. Stephen responded without showing any emotions.

Ignoring what his son had said, the old man repeated.

"Why are you here, if you are here to lament like a girl on how I ruined your life, then get out of my house, you disrespectful brat" Cynthia's grandfather entered in a straight face.

"Is... My daughter here... I mean Cynthia... He ran away from home and I know she is here, call her out right now, I will deal with her mercilessly" Mr. Stephen finally revealed.

"Cynthia ran away?! Oh my God, what have you done to my granddaughter, where could she be?" The old man wailed.

he quickly picked up his cellphone and dialed Cynthia's phone number, Mr. Stephen was shocked when he noticed that his father was calling her missing daughter on the phone.

"Cynthia has a phone? Who bought her a phone?" Mr. Stephen asked but the old man ignored his son as he waited patiently for her granddaughter to pick up his call.

Finally, Cynthia answered her grandfather's call.

"Hello, where are you, my child?" Grandpa asked in a worried tone

"I'm home" Cynthia lied

"No you are not home my child, your father is here asking about you" Grandpa added

And then it was dawn on Cynthia that she had to say the truth.

"I'm sorry grandpa, I truly left the house, my parents don't love me, I don't know why. I have tried my best to endure and that maybe one day they will learn to love me, but today, your son.... beat the hell out of me with his belt. All because of Amber and even worst my mother did nothing to save me from my father. Grandpa, no one loves me in that house...that's why I left, please forgive me, I promise I will make you proud, I will always adhere to your advice, I won't mess up myself, I will work hard to succeed" Cynthia said at the other end of the phone, the call was on loudspeaker so Mr. Stephen heard everything her daughter had said.

Before grandpa would say a word, Cynthia hung up.

Grandpa tried to call her granddaughter back to persuade her to return to him but Cynthia had switched off her phone after she hung up.

Grandpa suddenly became worried for her grandchild, and he turned to his son

"what have you done?" Grandpa said almost in tears while Mr. Stephen ignored him and walked away speechlessly.

He knew his wife would be devastated if she finds out that her daughter had left the house only because of him, so he came up with a story.

"I'm just coming back from my father's house, you won't believe your daughter ran away with a boy, I knew she was useless and irresponsible, all I was doing was to discipline her but see what happened, even my father confirmed It, my father saw the face of the boy he ran away with, and he had described the boy's look to the police" Mr. Stephen Lied and Mrs. Felicia had no choice but to believe her husband.

After all, Cynthia was also his daughter.

Mrs. Felicia broke down in tears as Mr. Stephen consoled her. He felt bad for lying against his daughter but he knew his wife would reveal their secret to Amber and that will break Amber's heart.

Cynthia's mother was so disappointed in her daughter that she instantly disowned her in her mind and she vowed not to look for her or worry about her.

On the other hand, Cynthia found herself in a strange but busy city called Port Harcourt. It took her almost 10 hours to get to Port Harcourt from Lagos.

She arrived at a Catholic church that someone had directed her to.

On arriving at the church she saw a Reverend sister to whom she explained her ordeal and how she knew no one in the city.

The Reverend Sister took her to the Reverend Father who rebuked her from running away from home but then he took pity on her and then he said

"Well I have seen the birth certificate you showed me, you are not a minor, you can stay at the Reverend sister's quarters, but you have to behave yourself, I don't want to hear any bad report about you," The reverend Father said and Cynthia nodded in acceptance.

Like the holy book said " No peace for the wicked"

That night Cynthia's parents couldn't sleep, Mrs. Felicia was genuinely worried about her daughter, even though she had disowned her in her mind but still part of her wants her daughter by her side.

While Cynthia's Father was restless, his conscience dealt with him all night.

Even though the Couple was found in different bedrooms, they were wide awake all through the night, their thoughts run wild too.

"How could my daughter run away with a boy? but I don't know, what to believe anymore, I thought my child was responsible, I thought she was a good girl, how could she do this?, oh Lord, I think it's my fault, I am not a good mother, I failed in bringing up my only child in the right direction, first I let my husband and his daughter Amber maltreat my child and second I couldn't teach her good values, I have no right to be upset with my child when I have failed her uncountably, I will have to look for my child, please Lord I hope it's not too late to do what is right for my child" Cynthia's mother thought in tears.

Cynthia's father was also in thought as he remembered the way Amber's mother died and he also thought about Cynthia as his conscience dealt with him, he tried to justify his actions, so he could feel better.

"I was beginning to fall in love with my late wife Sonia before her death, first I thought I loved Felicia but when I married Sonia, I realized that she was a lovely woman... Cynthia is my daughter and I love her but I feel It's better this way, she won't bother my Amber anymore, I wasn't a better husband to Sonia, maybe I could be a better father to her daughter Amber, who is her replica," The heartless man thought.

A few weeks later, Mrs. Felicia had Visited Grandpa thrice, she wanted to find out if the old man knew where she could find her daughter but sadly, she meet Grandpa's absence all the time.

Ever since Cynthia left, the old man became seriously ill. He was hospitalized. He had told his doctor not to inform his heartless son.

On the Other hand, Life wasn't too easy for Cynthia, even though, she was grateful for the people she meet in Port Harcourt, but still, most of the people treated her like a stranger that she was, some disliked her for no reason except for Sister Rosemary, who treated her like she was Family. Soon, Cynthia had developed a prayer life as she prayed with the nuns every day. She had decided to join the convent so she could become a nun, like others

But God has another plan for Cynthia.

One day, Some group of Actors and Actresses stormed the Church.

They needed to act some scenes at the church and the priest was aware as he had given his consent.

The middle-aged Reverend Father permitted them without hesitation because the producer was the Catechist's daughter

They were so many popular television faces and the Priest was so happy to meet them in real life. In no time, Filming began, and soon one of their young actors felt unwell and was sent to the hospital for treatment and then the crew couldn't continue with the shoot, the director told the producer that they can't continue filming because the young actress that fell ill was the main character.

The producer walked straight into the church, to inform the priest about the latest development and how they wanted to reschedule the shoot for another time but as she walked into the cathedral, she noticed that there was someone who had been staring at her the whole time.

It was Sister Rosemary and she was familiar with her

The female producer greeted Sister Rosemary warmly, and then the nun said

"Are you people having some challenges, you all are already packing up?" Sister Rosemary said, and then the producer explained everything that had happened.

"Do you need a replacement for the role?" Sister Rosemary asked confidently.

And the producer replied" Yes" and she went further to say

"The role is not simple, we need

Someone younger, like a teenager"

The only person that came to the nun's mind was Cynthia. Immediately she told the producer about Cynthia.

"Are you sure, she can act?" The producer asked in doubt

"Cynthia can act, last Christmas carol's night, she played Mother Mary's role so well, wait I will call her right away," She said and ran to the quarters to bring Cynthia.

When Cynthia came, she was given the script and then the director allowed her to study the script for half an hour before she was called upon for a short rehearsal.

Cynthia was talented as she proved herself before everyone. "She was born to be an actress" The director exclaimed.

The producer was shocked as she wondered how Cynthia could get into character quickly. Everyone was impressed with Cynthia's acting skills.

And from that day, Cynthia became an actress, in just one year she featured in 5 movies.

The movie directors always loved the way she could quickly become the character that she portrayed

Cynthia was a good actor and in one year, she didn't only become popular, she became rich.

When she started acting professionally, The Reverend Father took her to the bank where she opened a savings account and in just one year, She became a millionaire as she worth over 5 million naira.

A few months later, Cynthia's mother was shocked to see her daughter on television.

"Is that not my child, how did she become an actress?" Cynthia's mother thought as she ran into her husband's room to call him.

"Steve, come and see our daughter," Cynthia's mother said as she dragged her husband to the living room.

Cynthia's father couldn't believe his eyes as he saw her first daughter acting on TV.

She was all grown and she was looking very beautiful.

Amber heard Cynthia's name being mentioned, so she walked into the living room, to find out why but she was shocked to see her stepsister on television.

She speechlessly typed her name on the Google search on her phone and she became envious to see how popular her step-sister had become on social media

"She even won the best newcomer actress last month" Amber unconsciously said, without realizing that Her father and stepmother heard what she had said

"She did?, wow I'm so proud of my daughter," Mrs. Felicia said at once but when she remembered that she wasn't there alone, she suddenly became quiet.

"How could you be so proud of your daughter, who ran away from home to live with a man, Cynthia is shameless and I think she is just like you, no wonder you dated my father, and you even bore him a child, when you know he was married to my late mother," Amber said at once.

And Cynthia's mother was shocked at her guts.

"Amber! Keep quiet now" Mr. Stephen said and Amber walked away triumphantly

"I'm sorry my love, Amber is only a child, please don't take what she said to heart we both know what the truth is," Mr. Stephen said.

"The truth? What's the Truth? Because I don't know what's the truth anymore! You heard the way your daughter spoke to me, she was disrespectful and what did you do? Nothing, but I remember how you will beat up Cynthia only because Amber reported her to you, for once you never listened to our daughter's side of the story, you only believed what Amber said and you will pounce on our child, On Amber's request... it's your fault that our daughter ran away in the first place, it's all your fault, all you care about in this house is Amber and I'm sick and tired of it, I have been quite enough, this is not the first time she has disrespected me in your presence, and you are always quiet when it comes to Amber. But today she went overboard, She is not a child, she is 18 years old now, my Cynthia left this house when she was only 18, and she has been taking care of herself ever since when she has you and me, this is unfair, steve, how would you love one child more than the other, they are both your daughters, you should love them equally" Cynthia's mother said and broke down in tears.

"Oh come off it, now you are blaming me, how is it my fault, is it because you saw Cynthia on television? Why didn't you look for her all this time, why are you blaming me" Mr. Stephen entered at once

"Do you know how I searched everywhere for my child? Do you know how many times that I have been to your father's house but no luck, you don't know how many times I have cried myself to sleep, I feel happy now I know that she is okay".Mrs. Felicia responded.

The woman had no idea that her husband was so frightened when she mentioned that she visited his father most times, Mr. Stephen knew his lies would be discovered if his wife confronts his father but he was relieved when he heard that they never meet.

"But on second thought, Mrs. Felicia asked

" where is your father?"
