Davina's POV

"Why does my life keep falling apart?" I asked trying so hard to stop the tears from rolling down. It's just as if nothing is working for me, first was dad loosing his job with practically no savings, now I'm at the verge of dropping out of school cause I basically can't afford my school fees and this is my fucking finals. Like why now!!!! Why is life so unfair to me?" I asked sobbing heavily.

"Girl you need to get yourself together" my Best friend Ash says. We still have like six months before your final exams by then we would saved up enough money to sort it out".

"How is that even possible? I don't even have a job, where do I get the money from?"

"We can start now by searching for job vacancies around, we'll definitely get one. A friend once told me about this site that posts job vacancies, let me check it out and see what they have".

"What would I have done without you? I leaned on her". After about one hour of us checking and applying for so many jobs on the sites, Ash finally saw one with a sensible though suspicious pay.

"What's the job about?" I asked

"Uhmm it's says "A live in maid needed, aged between twenty to thirty and must not be married or have kids".

That's a weird criteria" she added.

"What's the pay?"

"Ten thousand grand"

"Isn't that too much for a maid?"

"It is , I'm wondering if the person to be taken care of is a special care patient. And the publisher didn't say anything about him or herself".

"Can I see it, let me see how to apply. It says fill in your details then we give you call to tell you if you qualified for an interview. I did so without hesitation and submitted. I wonder if I'd get anyone" I said not so sure about myself.

"You got this baby girl" Ash said assuring me.

Ashley has being my best friend from junior high school and we've come a long way together attend the same college although different major and have being roommates since we got into college. We got tired of searching for work, had dinner and slept. Another new day, still feeling like the world has turned their back on me. It's a Saturday and honestly all I want to do is sleep in. I heard my phone buzz checked it and it was a message from an unknown number.

"This is to inform you that you're eligible to be interviewed for the position of a live in maid".

Time 12 O' Clock PM Venue 2 Durkin street "

I was so excited that I didn't even notice when I screamed, Ash came running in

"Girl are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm good, sorry for scaring you".

"Okay but why did you scream so early in the morning" I showed her the message I got

"Girl!!!!!! I'm happy for you and I hope I get the job, I know you will".

"Thanks Ash. I don't know what I'd have done without you".

"Nothing babe, absolutely nothing she said and we laughed, now we have to get you ready cause you look like a mess".

"Ash please help me find something to wear, I need to take a shower and wash my hair".

"Sure, no problem, be fast about it though". "I will", I got into the shower, got off my pajamas and let the cold water pour down from my head to toe, it was saw refreshing. I washed my hair, had a proper shower, dried my hair and got out. Ash helped me get an off white blouse, peach long skirt and stiletto.

"Thanks Ash, I love you". "You're welcome girl, now go get that that job".

"I definitely wil"l. I styled my hair, wore a light makeup up, got dressed and left. It was a thirty minutes drive and throughout that time I was lost in my thoughts, I've never being to a job interview and I don't even know the basics, gosh!! I'm doomed......

"Ma'm we're here" the driver said interrupting my thoughts.

"Ok, thanks". I paid him and walked away. I was standing in front gigantic mansion, honestly I've only seen such buildings in movies, I checked my watch and saw that I was thirty minutes early. I contemplated if I should go inside or hang around till at least five minutes to the time. I finally decided to go inside. I met a man who looked like he was in his forties at the entrance, I introduced myself, we exchanged pleasantries and he led me into the building. The interior designs are magnificent, everything looks like they're made of gold and diamonds.

"Please sit here and wait, someone will be with you shortly". He politely said as he went back to the entrance of the building.

I saw a young lady around my age come out of a room and behind her was an elegant six feet tall brown skinned young lady, her height was intimidating yet beautiful, her skin so smooth and fresh like it has never being outside the sun, her brown eyes were captivating, she definitely looked like and Instagram model.

"Hi. I believe you're Davina Dalton?" She asked.

"Yes ma'm I said"

"Okay, I'm Alicia, I'd be interviewing you".

"Okay ma'm"

"So it says here that you're a final year student at Lead city university, am I correct?"

"Yes ma"

"So how do you intend to attend to both work and school?"

"Well, when I start working here, I'd change my mode of study to online".

"Okay, that's a good idea, come with me".

"Yes ma'm", we got into a long hall way and she continued her questions,

"Have you ever done this kind of work before?"

"No ma'm"

"So what makes you think you can do it?"

"I believe the work of a live in maid is to do all the house chores and cook in some cases and basically that's what I always do when I get home, I believe it won't be so hard".

"I believe so too". We got into this room that looked just like a study room, there was a man who had his back to us.

" If you're lucky to get the position, he'd be your boss".

"Uhmm, okay", I said stammering, honestly I didn't know what else to say.

"Aiden, meet one of the applicants for the live in maid position". Alicia said leaving me behind her and walking towards the man.

"I told you I don't need a live in maid and ain't you tired of all this?"

"No Aiden I'd only get tired when you pick one of them".

I wasn't even paying attention to their cute bickering, how can one man be this gorgeous? With his caramel skin, deep brown eyes, defined jaws, masculinity and a mesmerizing voice, Aiden is certainly irresistible.

"Alicia you choose one and leave me the fuck alone!!!! He yelled at her.

"Aiden, it doesn't call for shouting".

"It certainly does, you've being bringing strange women into my home for over a week and you fully know I dislike people being in my space".

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean no harm".

"Alicia I know you didn't, I'm sorry for raising my voice". He apologized then took a glass of whatever he had being drinking and drank it at a go.

"Alicia I know all you want is the best for me, I honestly do.....

"Then act like you do" Alicia said not letting him finish his statement.

"Fine". He said reluctantly then turned to me.

"Congratulation young lady. You got the job" Both Alicia and I were in shock, cause we didn't expect him to say that.

"Thank you sir". I finally got the courage to say.

"You can start on Monday", if you wish. You can also discuss other things with Alicia and she would show you around.

"Okay sir. Thank you sir."

Alicia led me out of the room, this way let me give you a little tour. We walked around the house for about thirty minutes, then signed a few documents before I went home.

Aiden's POV

"I don't get why you're bent on get me a live in maid" I said angrily

"You need help around here, you can't be doing everything on you're own" Alicia replies

"I can take care of myself, I'm not a fucking kid",

"Then act like one. You've locked yourself in here for over a year, I know you're still heartbroken about the death of your fiancée. But you have to move on, there's more to life than locking yourself up and drinking to stupor".

"Like it's as easy you say, she died a day before our wedding, she's the only woman one ever loved and you stand here and tell me there's more to life. Natalie was my life, Am nothing without, can't see you see that?"

"We're all worried about you, we just want you to return to your old self, Natalie's death also left a big void in our lives but we have to move. I'm sure Natalie would be so heartbroken where ever she is to see how messed up you've become, Aiden nobody's asking you to forget Natalie entirely but you have to let us help you heal".

"Thank you Sis", I really appreciate.

"You don't have to thank me, just get back to work, the stress is too much on me".

"I'll try". I bid her farewell and she left.

Back to being all alone, I actually enjoy her company although we bicker a lot but I always feel her absence more than any of my other siblings. Sometimes I question if I'm the older one or her cause she's always bossing me around. It's already nine PM and I can't seem to fall asleep, I check my bed side drawer and I'm out of sleeping peels.

"Fuck this is going to be a long night" I muttered as I got off my bed went towards my study room. I picked up a file that Alicia left for me, the file had documents belonging to my new maid, I still can't believe Alicia convinced me to do this, read a little about her, dropped the file and moved to my bar to get a glass of wine. I sat on a long stool there and was sipping my wine when my mind drifted, the thoughts of Natalie only put me in agony, I could hear her laugh, I loved how she called my name with her British accent, I could hear her screams from that night, the fear in her eyes and how she kept pleading that I shouldn't let her die. Ever since then, I kept blaming myself for what happened that night, what if we didn't decide to spend our last night as unmarried couple together, probably she'd still be here with me and we'd be happily married but no, I convinced her otherwise. At this point i already lost count of how many bottles of wine I've taken but that didn't stop me from taking more.

I woke up late the next day, it was already noon and I was l all sore and cold cause I slept on the bare floor, I could barely get up, my head was badly aching, everything was blurry, I just wish I can get myself to stop drinking even though alcohol became my companion. Got to my room had a hot bath, ate the leftover pizza in my fridge and decided to watch the news, not like a have a damn about what was happening outside my house but I needed a distraction, I was trying to think less of that night. After about an hour It had already started raining then I heard my doorbell ring, I wasn't expecting anyone and my siblings definitely won't ring my doorbell,

"Who could that be?" I asked myself as I went towards the door, I opened it and saw a lady carrying two suitcases, she's about the same age with Natalie, same golden eyes, same blonde hair, I had like a million thought flash through my mind in seconds. Could this be Natalie's sister but I've met all her siblings, then who could she be?

"Good day sir, I'm the maid you employed yesterday", she said interrupting my thoughts.

"I don't remember telling you to resume today".

"Yes sir, you told me to start work tomorrow but miss Alicia told me to move in today".

"Unfortunately for you, Alicia is not the house owner, I am and you'll go back to where ever you're coming from and resume the day I told you to" I said as I slammed the door behind me and went back to where I was sitting.

"Was that too harsh of me? I don't think so, every sane person would do same. How can Alicia ask her to move in a day before without consulting me?"

Deep down I felt bad for slamming the door that way and where do I expect her to go under this heavy rain and her clothes are obviously soaked. "I hate being put in situations like this". I called Alicia and confronted her, she apologized for not letting me know, she said that it slipped her mind. I went outside saw that the lady was still outside,

"You're still here?" I asked

"Sorry sir, I was just waiting for the rain to stop before I leave" she said shivering.

"Come inside" I said as I turned to go back inside the house, she followed me in, I led her to one the rooms downstairs,

"This would be your room"

"Thank you sir" I left her alone to do her thing, I've gotten so used to being alone here and now I have a maid who for some reason looks like my late fiancée, like how is that even possible? I went to my study room to read more about her, both her parents are Americans but Natalie's parents are from Britain, aside from their physical appearance, there's no other similarities about them. I also saw that she's a college student, then how does she intend to combine both, on the other hand that'd be good for me, at least I don't get to see her everyday. I got one of the new novels that Alicia got me, I sat at my desk to read it. It's been over three hours of reading when I heard a knock on my door, there's nothing in this world that I hated more than being distracted from what I'm doing. I decided to ignore her, but she kept knocking, after a while she stopped and l could hear her walk away, I tried to go back to book I was reading but I couldn't concentrate, so I stood and went to the living room, I saw Davina setting the dining table and for some reason I was angry

"Who the fuck told you to do that " I yelled, Davina was obviously startled but I didn't bulge.

" it's in my job description sir"

" What bloody job description? This is my fucking house and I'd be the one to tell you what to and what not to eat, I'd give you rules if you want to keep working here, Firstly, you have no business with my study room and any of the rooms upstairs, secondly, never knock on the door of any room I'm in, thirdly, I don't want you in my space, fourthly, you serve me food only when I ask you too. "Now clear this table before I throw you and your food out"

"I'm sorry sir," she said as she quickly cleared the dining table.

I walked straight to my bar to get a drink or two,

" why was I so mad at her? She didn't even do anything wrong, what the fuck is wrong with me?" I really don't understand what's wrong with me, I couldn't pinpoint why I was angry at the poor maid. "Well the deed has already being done and there's nothing I can do about it" I said to myself as I retired for day.

Davina's POV

After the little drama my boss Aiden displayed at the dining I angrily got upstairs, picked my phone and dialed Ashley's number, luckily she answered immediately

"Hey Ash"

"Hey baby girl, how's life in the mansion?"

"Terrible Ash, terrible", I said uncontrollably sobbing.

"Baby girl calm down and talk to me, what happened, Did he touch you?"

"No!! Not that"

"Then what harkened?, you're keeping me in suspense and you know I hate that"

"It's just that boss doesn't like me, I've not even stayed up to twenty four hours and I already hate this job, I feel like packing my bags and leaving immediately"

"Girl is it that bad?"

"Yes, it's even worse, like who the fuck gets angry because I made dinner and gives me some lame ass rules, he said it from the onset that he didn't want a maid but his girlfriend imposed it on him, so I don't get why he's taking it out on me, he's being so immature".

"Davina I understand how you're feeling, but girl you gat this, it's not a permanent job, just a few months and you're out of there".

"I know, but I honestly don't think I'll stay that long here"

"You will baby girl, you will. You're one of the strongest people I've met my entire life, so I believe you'll scale through"

"Thanks Ash, I already miss you"

"I miss you more baby, now get your ass up and do your job properly, do take care of yourself, I love you"

"I love you more, take care", I said and hung up and went to bed. I got up very early the next day, had my bath, changed into the uniform Alicia gave me, although I didn't like it, but I still preferred it to wearing my own clothes cause I always have problem finding what to wear. I tied my hair in bun to avoid it getting in my way, I started cleaning the house, after about thirty minutes, I saw Aiden, I greeted him but he ignored, probably because he didn't hear me or because he's an ass. When I was done cleaning I made waffles and freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast, didn't bother serving it to avoid unnecessary drama, I waited for a few minutes for Aiden to come back but I didn't see him, just as I about going to my room I heard the front door open, I rushed towards the door, this time he already removed his headphone.

"Good morning sir, I made waffles and freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast, do you care for some?"

"Yeah, sure", he said as he was about leaving "Should I set the table?"

"Obvious, where else would I eat?"

" I'm sorry sir" I neatly set the dining table and waited for him to come down. When he came down I served him, then went back to kitchen to wait for him.

"No school today?" Aiden asked

"Sir!! Are you talking to me?"

"Is there someone else in this house with us?"

"No sir"

"Why are you not in school by this time?"

"Well, I told miss Alicia that I won't be going to school while working, and I'd switch to learning online"

"Look here young lady, the only reason I agreed to all this shit is because you're and student and I believed that I won't be seeing your face all the time, so you better get into your room, dress up and leave this house, if you decide you don't wanna go to school that's on you but I don't wanna see you around this house during school hours. Did I make myself clear enough?"

"Yes sir" I was so happy, at least I get to leave this house and also see Ashley. I waited for him to finish eating, I cleared the table and and washed the dishes, prepared and left for school.

By the time I got to school, the professor was already in class so I had sneak into the class, thankfully he didn't see me, he thought for about an hour then left. I ran to where Ashley was seated and gave her a very tight hug.

"Girl what are you doing here? I thought you applied to switch to online classes"

"Yeah I did but I had to cancel it cause my grumpy boss said he doesn't want to be seeing my cute face all the time"

"That's good news, hope nothing happened this morning?" "Nothing happened, Ash I'm so happy to see you"

"Me too. So what time will you be going back there?" "Immediately after classes, I need to make launch for him"

"Ok, no problem"

After classes I went home, straight, freshened up and changed into my uniform and went to the kitchen to make launch but there was literally nothing there to cook, luckily Alicia walked into the house.

"Good day miss Alicia"

"Good day Davina, how are you doing today?"

"I'm good ma'm"

"Hope Aiden is not giving you a tough time?" "Not at all ma'm"

"That's a lie, Aiden said, I'm sure she already hates me"

"What have you done to the poor girl?" Alicia asked

"She's right in front of you, why don't you ask her"

"It's nothing ma'm" I said before she could ask me anything.

"If you say so"

"By the way ma'm I tried to cook but there's nothing here"

"That's exactly why I'm here, I came to get you so we can go grocery shopping"

"Oh, okay ma'm. Give me a minute let me get changed"

"Okay, don't keep me waiting for long"

"Ok ma'm". Alicia drove us to the grocery store,

she's totally different from her boyfriend, like what did she even see in that douchebag but what do I know. Grocery shopping was fun, we talked about so many things, she gave me a list of Aiden's favorite food, and gave me tips on how not to incur his wrath.

When we were done, we went back home, I made launch and served Aiden and Alicia, had mine in the kitchen. After launch I cleared the table, did the dishes and went to my room to lazy around because there was nothing else to do which I liked cause I had time to read my books.

A month and few weeks into living here and I've started to love my job and I hardly see Aiden cause he started working, I could go days without seeing him at all. As much I loved the fact that we were co-existing peacefully it was very boring but there was absolutely nothing nothing I could do.
