"I'm so sorry ma"Camille said with tears dropping from her eyes,sweating profusely she apologized and pleaded. The pain was becoming too much for her to bear.

Camille, dressed in a nanny's uniform, was being punished by Mrs Smith,mother to Zack and Alexis and a seemingly queen of Los Angeles.

Camille was punished for mistakenly dropping a ceramic that shattered into pieces.She had been kneeling for three hours and was now soaked in her sweat,her knees were sore.All pleading fell on deaf ears as Mrs Smith paid no attention to her.

"I'm so sorry ma,I won't ever repeat this again". She said crying,her tears flowing effortlessly tasting like salt.

She couldn't bear the pain anymore...

She sobbed as she felt the weight of her body becoming too much for her to carry.

"Would you shut up and not add to my fury"Mrs Smith said, giving her a disdainful look.

Zack, who was coming from a house party, happened to witness where Camille was punished.

"Hi mum"Zack said drunk

"Hello son"Mrs Smith said with a wide smile

"What has this maid done this time?"Zack asked, sitting.

"She broke your favourite ceramic,"Mrs Smith said.

"What....???!,my favourite ceramic..?

"Yes son".

"Punish her more, let her kneel for two more hours, she deserves that and more"

"Of course son, she's been a very terrible maid.I'll do just as you say"Mrs Smith said as Zack marched to his room reeking of alcohol.

Hours passed and Camille was eventually released.Tired and with sore knees she dragged herself to her room to take a bath,she sat under the shower crying at how miserable she had become, recalling how her dad died and was left to suffer with her mum while relatives seized their properties.

She was jolted from her thoughts by the ringing of her phone,she decided not to pick but it was a persistent call and eventually decided to give up and pick,on reaching the phone,she saw the caller ID was her mum, Mrs Gomez.

" Hi sweetheart".

"hi mum,how're you doing" Camille said trying to sound ok.

" I'm fine ,how about you,how has work been treating you"?

"I'm fine mum"she pretentiously said.

"But you don't sound so honey,talk to me".

Camille couldn't hold back her tears and eventually collapsed on the floor crying.

"Mum I can't keep doing this,I'm sick and tired of the Maltreatment and suffering.

"Camille,there are always five words I say to you when you think you can't continue

"When will you come home?"Mrs Gomez said anxiously.

"I'll be coming home during the weekend mum"she said absentmindedly.

" Ok Honey,I'll prepare your favourite meal just as you love"She said excitedly

" Ok mum"

"I'll call your cousins over for the weekend,how does that sound?"Mrs Gomez asked.

"That'll be great mum"

"It's surprising how you just alleviated my mood mum"Camille said

"of course,I'm your mum and I understand you"

"Thanks mum,"Camille said.

"Don't worry honey, everything will be ok,I'll sing you to sleep just as I always do when you were little"

"Ok mum"

She sang Camille a lullaby as she drifted off to sleep.Mrs Gomez muttered a silent prayer for her daughter and went to sleep also.

Due to how tired Camille felt,she overslept,and all efforts by the other maids to wake her up by knocking on her door were futile.

She was eventually woken up by a painful whip that sent shivers down her spine.

"Wake up you lazy brat"Mrs Smith shouted angrily.

" Ouch.... sor.... good morning ma"she yelled in pain.It was a scorching whip.

"Keep the good morning to yourself, do you think you're a princess for you to be sleeping till this time!?"she said, glancing at her expensive Louis Vuitton wristwatch.

"I'm sorry ma", Camille said, whimpering and rubbing her back.

"Get out of that bed and go make breakfast for I and my Jewels"

"Yes ma"she said staggering out of bed.

While preparing breakfast,she got a call from Joey,her best friend.

"Hey munchkin,how're you doing?"

"Hey Joey"

"Why are you sounding so dull? Tell me what happened, don't make me panic!"

"It's nothing Joey,just the usual"

"Oh my,why won't you just quit and get a better job?"

"Joey you know that's not possible,and even if eventually I'm able to get another job,it'll still be the same,all billionaires are the same"

As she ends the call, Alexis and Zoe enter the kitchen laughing.

" Good morning ma'am Alexis, good morning ma'am Zoe"

Alexis hisses "who gave you the permission to interrupt Zoe and I while we're talking.Keep your silly good morning for your miserable mother, rubbish"

"Alexis don't be so mean"Zoe said touching Camille on the shoulder "sorry about that Camille, hope you had a wonderful night rest?"

"Yes ma'am Zoe,what can I offer you"

"Don't worry, I'll get coffee for myself and Alexis"she hands Alexis a cup of coffee.

On a second thought she decides to help Camille out in the kitchen.

"Alexis, could you please just wait for me at the dining table?I'll help Camille prepare breakfast.

"Whatever"Alexis said briskly walking out of the kitchen.

"Don't turn into a miserable maid like her."Alexis shouted from the hallway.

"Don't pay attention to her."Zoe said, helping Camille grab peanut butter from the cupboard.

"I clearly understand and thank you for being so nice to me"

"C'mon Camille, we're friends remember.So you don't need to thank me."Zoe said giving Camille a reassuring smile.

At the dining table, Camille serves the family their breakfast.They all look at her with disgust except for Zoe who offered to help but was reprimanded by Mrs Smith.

"Did you wash those filthy hands before serving us?"Zack asked, rather disgusted.

Camille pretends not to hear but was shot an angry look by Zack.

"I'm talking to you shameful slut"

"I did wash my hand, sir Zack,"Camille said, trying to calm herself by taking a deep breath.

"Better"

"Now leave before I throw up,your presence makes me want to puke"

As she was about to leave Alexis called her back.

"Hey you,come back here"

"Yes ma'am Alexis"

"Are you ok..?? Where's my strawberry cream, don't you know I don't eat without my strawberry cream....??

"I'm sorry ma'am, I'll get it quickly"

"You better do,or did your father take your brain with him to the grave...?"

"Alexis, that was harsh,"Zoe said.

Camille left with hot tears dropping from her eyes.The pain of losing her dad was now fresh in her memory and she swore to build a life for herself not to be a maid.

She was sitting at the garden questioning her dead father why he left her and her mother to suffer in this cruel world.

"Are you ok?"Zoe asked, coming to sit beside her.

"I am," she said, wiping her tears.

" No you're not,I know how you feel,I felt the same way when I lost my both parents to the cold hands of death"she said tearing up

"I'm so sorry for the hurtful words and the way Alexis treated you during breakfast"She added, regaining composure.

"It's okay, you don't need to apologize,I should be used to it already"

It was the weekend, and it was time for Camille to go to her mom and spend the weekend with her mum away from the cruel family.

"I'll be leaving to go spend the weekend with my mum,"Camille said, bowing her head.

"Ok,make sure you come early on Monday morning and before you come make sure you learn manners from your mum.Am I clear...??"Mrs Smith asked

"Yes ma"

"I'll miss you,"Zoe said, smiling.

"I'll make sure to come early,"she responded.

she was happy and hoped on the quiet street as the light shone brightly.

She had some money to spare and decided to get her mum a piece of jewelry and her favorite.

She got what she wanted and admired her choice of jewelry unknowingly she was traced and followed by some goons that were hired to rob her.

As she descended into a lonely corner, she was stopped by one of the goons and as she tried to run in the other direction, another goon appeared blocking her part completely.

"Please, please don't hurt me,"she said, shivering with tears.

"Shut up,and don't try to shout for help else we'll end your life"he said fiercely.

"If I've done anything wrong I promise not to repeat it ever again.Just let me go please"she muttered amidst tears.

"Beat her up and take all she has,"the first goon said to his mate.

"Yes of course and we could play some adult games"the second goon said grinning from ear to ear.

As they were about to spread her legs,a bright light shone towards where they were and they scurried away thinking they were about to be caught but it was just a car passing by.

Tired, frustrated and weak, Camille dragged herself home but unfortunately she couldn't reach home,she collapsed and fainted along the road leading to her house.

Early the next morning, Zoe happened to go out for a jog , she was extremely exhausted and decided to take a five minute break.

Just as she was about to squat to catch her breath,she was scared almost to death by the horrible and horrific sight that met her eyes.Camille was lying almost lifeless covered in bruises and torn clothes.

"Oh my ... .this ... .this is Camille,who did this to her,"she said to herself, acting confused and fretting at the sight of how pitiful Camille looked.

She runs to and fro looking for help.

"Help,help me, somebody please help"she yelled, almost worn out by her shouting.

"No no..., I can't leave Camille to run out of breath"she said trying to muster courage and walk up to someone to help her.

She tried to get the attention of passers by but nobody paid attention to her until a guy who happened to be Joey's boyfriend recognized Camille right away.

"Oh my,what happened to her"he asked trying to lift Camille up

"I don't know, I just saw her lying here covered in bruises,"she said, covering her mouth with her hands as she felt she was about to have a panic attack.

"Oh God,we need to get her to the nearest hospital ASAP,her mum will be devastated if she hears of this,"he said, trying to wave down a taxi.

"Let's get her up quickly.Do you happen to know her,I heard you mention her mum"Zoe said trying to balance her emotions after goosebumps appeared on her skin.

"Oh yes, she's my girlfriend's best friend"

At the hospital, Camille was treated but she was worried about the hospital bills because all she had was collected last night.

"Thank you so much"she thanked Zoe moved to tears by the kindness Zoe showed her.

"I owe you two for saving my life"Camille said, turning her head the other way because she was now crying.

"C'mon Camille, anyone would do this.Besides,we can't watch you die"Zoe said full of pity

"Have you informed my mum?"she asked, suddenly recalling she was on her way home before she blacked out.

"Errrm.... actually we didn't"Joey's boyfriend said, clearing his throat and feeling guilty for not calling her mum.

"I'll just place a call to her immediately"he added, trying to step out but was stopped by Camille.

"Noooo...don't call her please.She won't be at peace if she learns what happened to me this way"Camille said abruptly stopping him from calling her mum.

She felt a sharp pain due to how she reacted just now.

"I'll let her know myself"Camille said, holding her head groaning in pain.

"I'll leave you two to talk while I go clear the hospital bills"Zoe said

"Zoe you don't have to"Camille said

"Of course I do,your things were stolen remember,so you have no money on you"Zoe added

"Thank you so much Zoe"Camille said, almost feeling like jumping on Zoe to give her a warm hug to show how grateful she is.

"It's no problem, Camille,"Zoe said and exited the hospital room.

Still covered in little bruises and not completely well, Camille was asked to resume work.

In the kitchen,she was feeling dizzy while preparing breakfast when Zoe entered.

"Hey Camille,how're you feeling?"she asked, concerned.

"Well there's just little improvement,and I have to say thank you once again for coming to my rescue"

"It's okay Camille"Zoe said smiling

"It's disheartening that you still have to work despite still having bruises.You're not supposed to be doing this, you're not fully recovered.Hold on"she said offering her a seat.

"Sit,let me assist you in making breakfast"Zoe added.

"No"Camille protested in a high pitched voice

"Mrs Smith wouldn't allow it"she said with the hairs on her body rising, scared that Mrs Smith might walk in.

"Is that why you I shouted? don't worry they're still all asleep so no one will know"Zoe said giggling.

"Are you sure?"Camille asked.

"Of course I am,"Zoe said, washing her hands at the sink ready to continue from where Camille had left off.

"Ok then,thank you"Camille said, taking the seat Zoe offered her.

Zoe finished preparing breakfast and washed her hands.

"Thank you so much Zoe,"Camille said, smiling.

"C'mon it's nothing,I just wanted to help.Now you dish the food while I go down before Mrs Smith comes in here"Zoe said leaving the kitchen.

"Ok then"she said, preparing to go serve breakfast.

"Camille.... what the hell is keeping you" Alexis shouted from the dining hall.

"I'm coming right now ma'am"Camille responded.

"Calm down my princess, you'll eat to your satisfaction"Mrs Smith assured Alexis.

"Sorry for delaying ma'am,"Camille said, serving breakfast.

"Hurry up"Mrs Smith said.

After serving the family of four, Camille went into her room to take a nap,the injuries were causing her severe pain and she was feeling frustrated.About laying down,she received a call from Joey.

"Hi girl"Joey said happily

"Hey hey"Camille said dryly.

"How're you doing?"Joey asked.

"I'm fine ,wassup"

"Well,I wanted to ask if you are home,I was just passing by the mall and got you your favourite snacks and fruits,also a pain reliever to alleviate your pain."

"Umm.... Joey....I I'm actually not home"

"What do you mean,where are you?"waiting to get a response.

"I'm at work,I've resumed already"Camille replied.

"What....why the hell would you do that,you're not fully well,do you want it to get worst"Joey yelled

"No,I just had to resume since Mrs Smith asked me to"

"The guts of that woman,why is she treating you this way"Joey said getting worked up.

"I don't honestly know honestly"Camille said calmly

"You're too calm Camille"Joey said

"What should I have done, challenge her and lose my job..???"she said, trying to reason with Joey.

"This is the reason I said you should join me,no one will be treating you this way"Joey said trying to persuade Camille knowing fully well it'll all be wasted effort.

"Joey, I've told you,I can't......"

"Sell your body blah blah blah,I got it"Joey said interrupting Camille and rolling her eyes".

"Thanks for checking up on me though,I'll talk to you later.Wanna take a nap,I'm having a splitting headache.

"You need it girl,stay safe and don't forget I love you"
