Chapter 1 Come closer

Trisha's pov

I could feel his stare before I saw his face. It was like he could see the inside of my soul, the intensity of his stare bare deeply at me as I sway my hips to the sound of the music.

I turned, slowly to look at the man who had made me a mess without even doing anything.

And words could not describe the man that I saw. His face, carved perfectly, light reflecting on him. He was seated on a bar stool, his face stoic but I could see his eyes roam over me.

He was examining me, I noticed. I held my breath like a model in a beauty contest waiting for the judge's remark.

His smile was something I didn't expect. It was like a wave that hit me. This man was beautiful and nothing came closer.

" Come closer" His deep baritone voice spoke and I saw myself leaning towards him.

" Dance for me" He said again. He spoke as if he expected every word that came out of his mouth to be obeyed.

On a normal day, that could have been a deal breaker for me but I think I was too far gone to care. Drunk from the amount of alcohol I took today and also from the beautiful man seated in front of me.

I started by swaying my hips and then, I came closer to him, dragging his shirt for him to stand.

He stood and I couldn't believe how tall he was. I felt a little intimidated at that point but his hands around my waist vanished any thought.

" Turn around" He commanded again and again, I did just that.

We danced a little bit, with me grinding on him and I could feel something piercing me from behind.

" Are you nervous" He asked me and I shook my head.

" Did I look nervous?" " Was he already bored?"

Thoughts came to my head. I didn't know my conviction at that moment but I didn't want this man to be disappointed so I tried harder, bringing up every dance steps that I didn't know I had in me.

I heard him groan before he put his mouth near my ear

" Are you trying to kill me" He whispered.

" No, no . I just....." I started to explain but he shut me up with a kiss.

" Can we go somewhere else?" He asked, his voice almost pleading at the moment.

At this point, I didn't know what I was doing anymore. Tonight was all about making everything all about me.

But this stranger was here, asking me to go somewhere with him and I was seriously considering it.

This was all the fault of Noah, my boyfriend, sorry ex boyfriend.

Well, if he could cheat, why can't I let go for a night. A one night stand is definitely something I need now.

* Earlier this morning*

" Isn't that Noah?" My friend, Emma asked me as we walked.

" It can't be him. He said he was tired and needed to rest" I said, looking at the shadows that looked a great deal like my boyfriend of one month and my long-time crush.

" Let's just follow him then," She said.

The only lights shining were from the streetlight as we followed the oblivious guy.

" I told you that it was not him," I said when I saw a girl, probably his girlfriend waiting for him with outstretched hands.

As if the guy noticed that we were behind him, he turned his head and a familiar face stared at me.

Our eyes met in the darkness and I forced myself to believe that he had a reasonable explanation for this.

Our department was having a little party on campus and I had begged him to come stay with me.

He told me that he was not feeling well and he had already left campus at the time I was calling him.

My heart split when Noah turned his back to me and continued as if he didn't know me.

" Maybe it was his sister," I thought to myself. We have not yet introduced ourselves to any of our family members but I knew that he had a junior sister who stayed on campus too and honestly, the girl's face was not easy to see.

But my heart completely shattered when he gave the girl an intimate hug.

Didn't he care that I found out that he was cheating or was I the one that he was cheating with because the girl looked all too comfortable in his arm?

Now, the thoughts of everything were coming back to me. How he didn't like us acting all lovey-dovey in public or how he never introduced me to any of his friends.

" Let's go" Rose, my friend said to me but I remained standing.

" Trisha, let's go. He is not worth it" She repeated again and this time around, I followed her.

" Let's go out" She said to me as soon as we entered our hostel.

" Where are we going to? I'm ready" Priscilla, my second roommate said from her bed.

" I'm not in the mood" I said to her, already getting rid of my clothes.

" What happened?" Priscilla asked, coming down from her bed.

" That bastard, Noah broke her heart" Emma said before I could respond. I like the sound of the name tho. Bastard, it really fit him.

" So what do you want to do, sit down on your bed and cry, Abso- fucking- No. You are going to dress up like a queen and go have some fun " Priscilla said. She always spoke her mind.

" That's what I'm saying" Emma said.

" You better dress up or I would help out" Priscilla said. I was already seated on my bed.

" You leave me no choice" She said when I didn't budge.

Emma and Priscilla looked at themselves before they came dragging me out of bed.

" You are going to put on the sluttiest dress ever" Priscilla said.

" A slutty queen I stan" Emma said and they both giggled before they started their work on me.

Chapter 2 A letter of appointment

Trisha's POV

I've only been Mr. Costa's secretary for two weeks and I was already losing my mind.

I know that the dream of all literature and communication studies students was to intern in a company as big as Fretzon's group, but nobody ever said that it was at the risk of losing your mind.

Well, nobody cared that I was had a terrible breakup. Yes, I broke up with my boyfriend the next day through the phone

And definitely, no one cared that I can't remember a thing that happened with one of the hottest men I've ever seen.

My lunchtime was already far spent, but I had to finish this pile of documents, or else I would get a heavy scolding.

Letting out a huff, I resisted the urge to scream as I stared at the load.

"Miss Trisha, are you not going for lunch?" A colleague asked me as he left his desk.

" I will probably just eat in here; I need to be done with this," I said, pointing at my desk.

" I don't see any lunch with you," He said.

" I can order takeouts," I said to him.

" Okay, if you say so. You got this, newbie" He said, flashing me a smile and patting my back.

" Okay, thanks," I said.

I don't think I 'got this' because the documents don't stop coming, it keeps on increasing.

I was now all alone in the office and figured that I needed to stop whining and get to work.

I was almost done with the workload when an unfamiliar face came in. He was dressed in a suit and looked really serious.

" Are you looking for someone? Because it's lunch break already and ......"

" Miss Trisha, you have an official letter," The man said, dropping the letter on my desk and walking out

" Wait!!" I said and the man stopped.

" Sorry, who are you and what is this all about?" I asked him.

" I am the CEO''s assistant, and the letter will tell you more," He said to me and, this time, walked out, not giving me time to say anything.

" The CEO," I thought. What business would I possibly have with him?

" Was I getting fired?" I panicked but quickly diminished that thought. There was no way the CEO's assistant would come personally just to fire a mere intern.

Did I commit any crime?

" Just open the letter" a voice in my head scolded me.

I read through the letter, read it again and again and again, and still couldn't believe my eyes.

Was this some sort of joke or prank? Because it was definitely not funny.

" Miss Trisha!!" I heard the loud voice of Mr. Costa as he entered the office. Some of the other employees followed him at the back.

" Who exactly are you?" He asked me.

" I don't understand," I said.

" What do you mean, you don't understand? Isn't that your letter of appointment you are holding?"

" No, this got to be some prank," I said to him.

" How did you get to become the CEO's secretary as an intern? The news is all over the company and I got a call straight from the CEO's office informing me of your immediate appointment"

" So, this is no prank," I said again, still not understanding everything.

" Wait a second," I thought. This was true.

This can't be happening to me. I wanted to be done with my internship program without any problems but things just turned bad.

If I was complaining about Mr. Costa, The CEO, Michael Fretzon, was the worst.

The employees cower in fear whenever they see him and he hasn't had a secretary who lasted up to two weeks.

I had yet to meet him, but according to the rumors, he was an obsessive workaholic, a perfectionist, and an arrogant man.

He only hired top people who graduated amongst the best in their school and those who went to the best schools because he couldn't deal with those who made silly mistakes.

That was not all. He was also rumored to be drop-dead gorgeous. According to them, his pictures did not do him justice.

This meant that more than half of the single employees had a crush on him, and many were ready to overlook his personality just for a chance to work with him.

" I don't mind being alone in the office with him just for an hour. He can fire me after I'm done getting on my knees for him and..." I had overheard two of the staff discussing in the restrooms.

People were crazy for him and with the eyes of the ladies that came into the office with Mr. Costa, I can see that my stay might not be a smooth ride.

" I asked you a question. Who exactly are you?" Mr. Costa asked.

" Even your grades should not be able to get you to that position. You might be the top student in your School, but that is not enough requirement for the CEO to have a mere intern as his secretary," Mr. Costa said, looking into my eyes.

" I'm honestly as surprised as you are," I said to him.

" If we were talking about another person, I would say you used underhanded methods, but this this is the CEO," He said.

"Underhanded method " I understood what he meant by that.

Mr. Costa was a good employee but he was also very sexist at times and had no problem degrading women.

But I think I've had enough. I've refused his advance for a long time now and tried to be as professional as ever.

But he just insinuated something in front of how many staff and I can see how the ideas have been planted in their head.

" Mr. Costa, with all due respect, I will not accept you talking to me like that. If you are so curious as to why I was given this position, I'm sure that you know the way to the CEO's Office. Now, if you will excuse me, I need to start packing my things to my new office " I said and walked away from him, leaving him speechless.

Chapter 3 It was him

Knock knock

I stood in front of the door that had CEO written in front of it.

I was on the top floor of the building, compared to the ground floor that my previous office was in.

As I walked towards the elevator, almost every employee's eyes were on me but once I entered the top floor, it was like a world of their own.

First of all, I had to use the access card that was inside my appointment letter to access the top floor from the elevator which was new to me.

And also, everyone minded their business here. Not one person looked in my direction and the place was so quiet.

I was sure that if I dropped a pen, the sound would be so clear.

How was I supposed to ask anybody any questions here? Everyone was working like a robot.

"The CEO's office is that way" I could swear that my soul left my body when I heard a voice beside me.

Well, I also managed to get the attention of everyone here because of the little scream I let out while startled.

" I am sorry," I said out loud, and they just turned back to their desks.

I looked behind and it was the same man that delivered the letter to me.

As usual, he didn't say another word but started walking away.

After taking few steps, he stopped and looked behind, directly at me.

Oh, he expected me to follow me. Would it be so hard if he just said so?

" I'm coming," I said to him as he led me to the door I was currently standing in front of.

He knocked on the door and I heard a sound telling us to come in.

I opened the door and when I looked at my side, the man was already leaving.

Well, I guess I'm all on my own.

Mentally prepared, I stepped into the office.

The room was exactly as impressive as I had imagined and yet unlike any space I had ever seen.

The room was also lacking the owner, I noticed.

The office had massive floor-to-ceiling windows covering one wall, revealing a breathtaking view of the city skyline. Sunlight streamed in, casting a soft, golden glow over everything. The skyline felt like it was right there, just outside, vast and unattainable-yet somehow, standing here, I felt like I was at its center.

The desk dominated the room, large and elegantly imposing, set slightly back from the windows, almost as if to suggest that the man who worked there didn't need to stand in the light to command attention.

Made from dark, polished, mahogany wood with sleek edges, it radiated both power and elegance. A laptop sat to one side, closed, next to a few neatly organized papers and a small stack of leather-bound notebooks.

There was no clutter-only the tools he needed, and even those were arranged with a precision that hinted at his meticulous nature, the perfectionist he was said to be.

A simple nameplate at the front bore his name, etched in clean, silver letters, understated yet commanding.

The seating area was across from his desk, where two plush, charcoal-gray armchairs faced each other over a low glass coffee table. A single orchid sat on the table in a small, minimalist pot, its white petals adding a touch of softness to the otherwise masculine room. This was where conversations would happen, I realized-the kind of discussions that shaped futures.

I could only imagine the caliber of people who came in.

Behind the desk, the wall was lined with built-in shelves, sparsely decorated with books, a few awards, and pieces of art. Each item looked carefully chosen, somehow meaningful yet not boastful.

The entire room exuded sophistication, but there was a starkness to it, a sense that everything here had been curated to present a specific, polished image.

I found myself drawn to the single piece of art on the wall beside the window.

It was a watercolor, abstract yet calming, in shades of gray, blue, and green, almost as if to balance the busy scene outside the windows.

My mind drifted to who he must be, the kind of person who created a space like this-pragmatic yet artistic, polished yet with subtle warmth hidden beneath the surface.

With everything I had heard, I realized that this room was an extension of him, every detail a reflection of the man I was about to work with-complex, commanding, and perfect.

" Do you like the painting?" I heard a rather familiar voice ask.

" It is great " I answered unconsciously, still in awe of what was in front of me.

" Thank you. I actually painted it myself" I heard the same familiar voice say.

Wait a minute!! A familiar voice, a very familiar voice was actually communicating to me.

A voice that had taunted me for a long time. The direction of that voice was coming from where the CEO's seat was placed and the pieces started making sense to me.

I prayed to everything I knew so that it won't be what I was thinking.

" Aren't you going to turn back?" I heard him say, more like ordered. Typical of the man that I had met the other night.

Turning back, I just confirmed what I had thought all along. The same eyes stared at me, a little tilt of his lips were visible, like he was amused or should I say, curious about me

It was him.

The man that I had a one night stand with.

I'm not even sure of that because I can't remember anything but his face.

And that man was seated at the chair of my boss, all too comfortable. Looking like he belonged there.

The description of my boss fitting him all too much and the picture I once saw of him.

The rumors were right, his pictures did him no justice.

But how foolish must I have been not to have recognized someone who I had seen his picture.

" Good afternoon, Sir. My name is Trisha Scott and I'm your new secretary" I said to him, regaining my composure.

Playing ignorant was the best way.

He probably have had a lot of night stands with other women other than me so there was a chance he won't remember me.

Even if he did, I was tipsy that night so I would just pretend not to remember anything about him.
