Amaya stood in front of the glass window in her room. It was slightly pushed to the side. Her eyes were fixed in the distance. She watched the trees as they swung from left to right, due to the heavy gust of wind that was blowing outside. It was her younger brother's birthday.
It was supposed to be a pleasant day. She was supposed to be excited for her brother. He had dreamt about celebrating his 10th birthday. She remembered she had once asked him why he was so excited about it and he told her that it was because he was becoming an adult.
The day had come. Her parents, brother, and all the guests were outside in the courtyard, some under the blue and white canopy that had been mounted, others stood in small quorum with wine glasses in their hands as they chatted in celebratory voices.
Regardless, Amaya was in her room, desperately trying to deny the odd intuitions that had been resurfacing in her mind for the past two days.
Earlier, she had helped her mother and the cooks in the pack to put everything in place, after which she'd come up to her room to prepare herself before going down to fully welcome the guests.
However, after she was done, she turned to head downstairs, and unknowingly, her foot accidentally jabbed against her nightstand which had her lamp and a photo that had all four members of her family.
The glass frame had fallen and broken into unrecognizable pieces.
She had never been the type to believe in bad portents or such signs. However, the last time she had such instincts, her pack was invaded by rogues virtually killing some of her pack members.
She didn't want to believe what happened earlier, but her gut told her otherwise.
"It's time to cut my cake, Amaya." A sharp and small voice echoed in front of her door, which brought her out of her thoughts.
She spun around, a forced smile on her face but that didn't work as she had never been the type to fake things.
Chairo took slow and steady steps toward Amaya. He stopped a few inches away from her and gazed up at her face.
"It is my birthday, Maya. You're supposed to; with the breath in you, have a bright smile on your face."
He scolded his sister. Amaya released a deep breath. She walked a hand down her face. "I'm happy okay. It's just that..."
"No no, don't tell me you're having one of those instincts, Maya. It's my birthday. I want us all to celebrate with love and happiness. "
Just from the look on her face and her body reactions, he could tell what was going on through her mind. This was not the first time. All the times she had had such feelings, something terrible ended up happening.
"You know what, no explanations. Come with me." He excitedly took her hand in his. He dragged her out of the room.
"What nonsense are you talking about? I will never do such a thing."
Amaya and Chairo halted above the stairs when they heard their father's voice roaring in rage downstairs. They exchange quick and frightened glances.
She had never heard her father this angry. What could be wrong? Who was he talking to?
"Hold on." She dragged Chairo behind went he attempted to go down the stairs.
"I believed you to be my friend. I thought we could form an alliance and work together as a team, despite that, you betrayed me."
Amaya immediately recognized the voice. It was Alpha Tobias; the Alpha of the Blackwood pack.
Holbeck was made up of many packs, the prominent ones being the Blackwood pack which was the strongest and was ruled by Alpha Tobias, the second was Wintermoon, ruled by Amaya's father; Darius, and the third was the Nightfall pack, ruled by Alpha Jackson.
Her father had some friendship relations with the Alpha of the Blackwood pack.
"Hahaha. Acting innocent huh?" Tobias laughed out loud, his laughter mixed with venom; it was like splitting open the throat of your worst enemy and watching blood pour out of it like a fountain while you stood there and laughed as they took their last breath.
"You tried to negotiate with other packs to get the luminous spring and you're acting up?"
Amaya's mouth felt opened as she heard about the Luminous spring. Her father could never do that. It was a dangerous and powerful spring that was said to belong to the Blackwood pack. The Blackwood pack had encountered numerous attacks in the past because of that spring. Many Alphas wanted their hands on that spring as they speculated that it was due to that spring that Alpha Tobias was this strong and bold to challenge even his elders. Yet, she knew her father could never do that. He didn't envy what belonged to others.
"You know I could never do that" Her father stood up straight, glaring at Tobias in the eyes.
"You know I don't take deceptions easily." Tobias spat out. Within the blink of an eye, his right hand glided down to his waist, he pulled out a sword, and with immediate effect, he pushed it into Darius' chest directly to his heart, a wicked grin danced on his lips. It was like he had successfully gotten the trophy people told him he could never get.
"NO!" Amaya wailed at the top of her lungs. She stumbled backward, her vision became blurry. What did she just witness?
"Kill them all. Burn down this entire pack. This is what you get when you try to betray Tobias."
He snarled as he dragged the sword out of Darius' chest. His limped body felt with a loud thump on the floor.
"Father!!" Chairo growled as he hurried down the stairs.
The entire pack became rowdy. People screaming and running for their lives, blood spilling. Things cracked across the room.
"Kill everyone and burn down the entire pack," Tobias commanded with no grief.
"CHAIRO!!" Amaya yelled when she saw a guard lifting a sword over her brother's head as he leaned over their father's dead body.
However, everything came crashing down, when her mother ran right under the sword. It came right at the nap of her neck. Her head snapped from her neck and rolled over the floor.
Blood. All she saw was blood. No words seemed to leave her mouth. She stood motionless, not knowing what to do. It all happened so fast.
"Get her!" Tobias ordered and immediately, two of his men hurried up the stairs where Amaya was.
Realizing what was happening, she ran into her room and tried to lock the door behind her, but the force of those two men was stronger than hers.
The door was broken and they got inside.
One of them held her hands behind her.
The other one punched her hard in the left eye. She could testify that her eye socket had been shifted from its original position. She was instantly blinded. She felt the pain, her brain refused to function. She couldn't scream. Her voice had completely abandoned her at this time. Neither could she hear the voice of her little wolf.
They all abandoned her. She couldn't scream for help. The only thing left with her, were her tears which repeatedly ran down her only good eye while blood streamed down the dislocated eye which was now hanging down her face held by just a tiny eye filament. The slightest mistake could leave her eyeball sliding down her face to the floor.
She opened her mouth to scream, beg, shout, but all she received was another deadly punch on her nose which responded with a cracked sound.
It was the end for her. She knew it. There was no need to try to fight.
Despite that, her good eye widened in shock and surprise, when the guard holding her behind, fell to the floor behind her, with a bow and arrow stuck at the center of his forehead. What just happened? She thought looking behind her. But then, the guard in front of her fell face flat.
With a shaky and confused body, she looked at her door.
"We need to leave. Everyone is dead."
A tall guy dressed all black from head to toe, spoke as he adjusted a brown bag that looked like that of a hunter on his side. He had brown shoulder-length hair and piercing blue eyes. Who was this? She was sure she had never seen him before.
Amaya's eyes travel down to his neck which has a chain of black tattoos around it.
He lifted his hands in surrender and said "Well, I'm Kenji." He introduced himself when he noticed that Amaya was trying to figure out who he was.
"You can admire me more when we leave this place." He told her.
"I must admit, you have a disgusting face." He shrugged, skipped over the dead bodies, and took her hand.
Eight years later.
There has never been a single day, without Amaya waking up, thinking of the memories that had toned her life apart.
The incident left her with nothing, but pain, bitterness, and most importantly, that act of seeking revenge. She wanted everyone who had participated in that mascara eight years ago in the Wintermoon pack to suffer just like she had been doing.
She wanted them to lose everything she had lost. Her father, mother, and precious little brother; who was only happy to celebrate his 10th birthday.
She could still remember the joy on his face that morning. But it was all cut short for a crime that he didn't commit.
He would have been 18 by now. She would have loved to see the mate the mood goddess had paired him with. She wanted to see her mother train his mate to become the next Luna of the pack. There was no doubt that he would have become the next alpha after his father. However, none of that ever came to pass. Their lives were snatched away from them.
"He killed them, he fucking them." Amaya cried, just like she had been doing every single day.
In anger and agonizing pain, she threw her sword to the floor. She took angry steps to the shade that was on the left side of the training field. She grabbed a bottle of water and gulped it down without a stop.
When she was done, she tossed the bottle to the floor and it rolled over.
She looked up when she saw a leg step on the bottle, stopping it from moving.
"What are you doing here?" She snarled once she saw Kenji standing in front of her. His hands around his waist, a smug smile on his face.
"Came to see how the training is going." He smiled at her.
Her eyes moved to the tattoo on his neck, which was her favorite part of his body.
No matter how mad she was, she could never stay angry at Kenji. The boy had shown up when she needed help. He had saved her and took her to his pack, the Nightfall pack.
His father; Jackson, and mother; Talia had welcomed her with open arms. They had taken good care of her and gave all that she wanted. They were there with her in her highs and lows. Not forgetting Kenji who had never left her side.
He fed her, when she couldn't lift a spoon to her mouth, he held her close to his chest and comforted her when she couldn't find comfort in her loneliness. He laid her to sleep when she was having one of those horrible nightmares.
Yes, there was no doubt that she had feelings for him at some point in time. They had kissed and did more than that. He was a charming young and tall boy. His smile and laughter were everything especially when he laughed like he had zero worries in the world.
But then, everything changed, when Kenji finally found his mate; Freya, the girl who never liked her. She kept her distance and she was grateful that Kenji had understood her; although she knew deeply inside of her that Kenji still had a spot for her and she too did for him, but she kept her distance.
She had a whole revenge to plan.
"As you can see, it's going just fine. " She stood up and walked past him, but he grabbed her wrist and made her look at him.
She spun around with a sigh. "What now?" She hissed.
"Your eye looked better now. One can hardly tell that your eyeball had come out at one point in time." Kenji gave her a genuine smile. She turned her head to the side. She didn't want to get all attracted again.
"And your nose..." Kenji licked his lower lip. "Looks perfect."
"Stop." Amaya smiled and slapped his hand away. He always loved doing that. Licking his lower lip while talking to her. She had always wondered what he did that for.
She was grateful for the pack doctor who had done everything to make her face look perfect. It's been Eight years. She wondered if there were any survivors in her pack and if they were, could they ever recognize her?
"Where are you going?" Kenji questioned as he hurried behind Amaya.
"I need to get ready. I will be leaving tonight." She answered without turning to look at him.
Kenji took fast steps towards her and they were now walking side by side. "It could be dangerous."
Amaya stopped in her tracks. She gazed at Kenji and replied, "I have seen worse..." She breathed out, tired of explaining herself to Kenji. "I might kill myself, if I don't bring down Blackwood pack to ashes."
All Kenji could hear, was resentment in her voice. She was determined. Nothing could stop her.
She'd been planning this revenge after she had her sight back. About two years ago. Nothing could stop her.
"Alright...alright cool. You don't have to bite me." Kenji mocked. But soon, his expression turned serious. "If you need a helping hand, do not hesitate to reach out to me. I will ask my father to send some guards with you."
"Thanks, but I don't need anyone."
"Fine. But I will send still."
He followed her and they made their way home.

"Are you sure about this?" Jackson asked with concern as he gazed at Amaya across the table. They were having their last meal with her. She had just an hour to leave.
"I have never been more sure of anything in my life." Amaya answered coldly not in the mood to hear them say she wasn't strong enough.
"She would do just great, father." Kenji looked at his father, with a sinister expression on his face. His father nodded.
"Okay. Remember everything we have talked about. If at some point, you need help, you can always reach out to us." His voice was soft and calm.
Amaya nodded. Kenji's eyes remain on his food. His mother looked between him and his father.
She knew the two of them were definitely up to something.
"Take care of yourself while you are at it." Talia nodded towards Amaya.
Knock!
Knock!
They all looked at the main door except for Amaya, who was wondering how she would get into the Blackwood pack as a stranger. It could be difficult. She had known Alpha Tobias for years. He didn't go easy on strangers.
Andrew, the omega of the Nightfall pack, entered the room with his head bowed and hands obediently in front of him.
"Greetings, Alpha, Luna, and..."
"Just go ahead and tell me what you found." Kenji cut in. Andrew nervously swallowed.
"The Blackwood pack is holding a coronation tomorrow by midday."
Amaya's head shot up from her plate. A coronation? Who were they crowning?
"What is the coronation about?" Kenji asked with interest.
"Alpha Tobias' only son would be crowned as standing Alpha"
As every part of the world had its culture, so were the packs in Holbeck. They crowned a standing alpha who stood next to the main alpha and would be ready to take over when he stepped down. This happened when the main alpha had come to age.
"Interesting." Kenji glanced at Amaya and they locked eyes.
"You can leave." Jackson dismissed Andrew. He left without looking back.
"Crowning his son?" Jackson hissed.
"Isn't he the son they said was a weakling and the one his father hated so much? How could a weakling rule the pack?"
"Maybe the elders had mounted pressure on him." Talia shrugged.
Amaya listened carefully. He had a son, a son he wanted to crown while her brother's soul must be wandering somewhere in the unknown.
That anger, those horrible memories, that nightmare came rushing back. Tears almost fill her eyes.
"I'm leaving." She stood up. Kenji did as well.
"Don't forget to let us know when you find a mate. I would like to meet him."
Amaya spun around and looked at Talia like she had suddenly lost her brain.
"Fuck mates." She rolled her eyes and walked away.
"Don't say that. I can't wait to meet him too. You've passed that age. You should be happy to find one."
Ena, her little wolf replied.
"Amaya, Wait!" She stopped when Kenji called out once they reached the borders.
"Thanks for accompanying me this far." She spun to look at Kenji. He got down from his horse. He patted the side of its face.
He walked to stand in front of Amaya. He took her hands in his. He looked at them before glancing up at her face. "I will miss you." He pouted, his eyes not daring to leave her face.
Shit! Amaya cursed. He always had a way of melting her heart. This was not the time for all this. She had an important task to carry out tomorrow. The last thing she needed was a distraction.
"Same here, but I need to go." She breathed. Her eyes landed on his lips. The lips she had kissed some time in the past, the lips she wanted to have one more taste of, but she knew she couldn't.
"Amaya..." Kenji called when she attempted to leave.
"Wh...?" Her question was cut short as Kenji smashed his lips hungrily against hers. Without hesitation, Amaya took his lips hungrily into hers. They kissed as though it was their first time trying and they wanted to have every bit of it.
"Uhh." A moan escaped Amaya's lips. She brought her hands up to Kenji's hair. She threaded her fingers in his hair. They continued kissing.
Kenji's hands left her waist and moved down to the waistband of her trousers. He found the button that held her trousers in place. The button came undone, once his hand found it.
Amaya was so consumed in the kiss that, she didn't realize what was happening until Kenji's hand in her trouser cupped her clit.
Her body tensed. Instantly, she pulled away from the kiss.
"Please! Just this last time." Kenji pleaded, his chin resting against Amaya's neck.
She wanted to have him. She wanted him to take her all in. She wanted him to devour her for the last time. Yet, she needed to be committed with a clear mind, once she arrived Blackwood tomorrow.
"I'm sorry. But I can't. " She leaned in and kissed him one more time. She took steps away from him.
"You have a mate and thanks for everything. I will make sure to reward you if we ever meet again."
She waved at him and dashed off. With frustration, Kenji climbed on his horse and rode off. He had a mate, but he wanted her too.
'I should have had a mate before now. But it is already too late. I'm not interested at all.' She grumbled within her as she pushed forward.
****
The moon shone brightly in the dark sky, illuminating the dark and narrow part of the forest Amaya traveled on.
It was thanks to Kenji that, she could travel through the thickest of forests at any time in the day or night, without being scared of anything. He had taught her every secret and defensive measure.
Even if she was attacked by wolves or rogues at this point, she knew just how to target them.
The forest was eerie silent, with just crickets chirping. No other sound could be heard.
She knew it was just a few more hours before she reached her destination.
She wanted to visit her pack first. It has been Eight years since the incident. She was fifteen at the time it all happened in front of her eyes.
She wondered what it would look like.
She dreaded thinking about it. She dreaded walking into the pack and stepping on the bones of her father, mother, or brother.
She hated the idea of going there, but she had to.
"Revenge is not a better idea." Ena, Amaya's little wolf muttered, rolling her eyes. Left to her, they should have just stayed back in the Nightfall pack.
Amaya halted, with her hands clenched in a strong fist on her sides. "This has nothing to do with you." She continued walking not wanting to get into a fight with her wolf like they had been doing for the past years.
At one point, she had thought that she was wolfless because she had never heard from her.
But it surprised her that, Ena had suddenly showed up about five years ago when Amaya and Kenji had gotten laid.
Ena was excited thinking that Amaya had found their mate, just to come out disappointed that, she had found a handsome but mysterious Fuck boy.
"Hey, chill. I was just saying." She rolled her eyes again.
Amaya stopped, this time, fueled with anger. "None of these would have happened, if you had helped back then, when I called out to you, when I needed your help. But you didn't." She hissed. "If you do not have any plans of helping me, you better shut the heck up."
Ena didn't respond. She sat quietly. She didn't know how all that was her fault.
After a few hours of walking, Amaya finally came to a stop just at the entrance of her pack. A pack she had stayed away from for eight years. There was no joy in her, whenever she thought about that particular day.
The blood she had witnessed, was the same blood she wanted Blackwood pack to witness. She wanted nothing more out of life than that.
She ran to hit behind a tree when she saw what seemed to be someone holding a bush lamp in the distance ahead.
No, not a distance. It was in her pack. Not only did she spot one, but many of them.
She shook her head. Were they ghosts? What was happening? She tried to think then she remembered.
Alpha Jackson had told her that, the Blackwood pack now owned their pack. They had their people scattered across it.
Her heart felt as though, someone had tight a cord around it and was pulling it together such that, it almost snapped from the rest of her thoracic cavity.
Her back slid down the tree.
Tears streamed down her eyes. Those memories could never fade away.
How could one person be this wicked? And he would be happily crowning his son tomorrow.
This is not the time to be weak, Amaya. Be strong. She reassured herself.
She put her hand in the chest pocket of the black leather jacket she was wearing.
She brought out a piece of paper where she had carefully drafted her revenge with the help of Kenji.
She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and opened the paper in front of her face.
She started reading her plans in her mind.
1) Kill Alpha Tobias.
2) Burn the entire pack; kill everyone if possible.
3) kill his only useless or weak son or maybe leave him to the same fate as his father had left me.
He will have no one to turn to. He will cry and the earth will not hear him. He will be more miserable than I have ever been.
Everyone in the Blackwood pack has to suffer the fate my pack went through eight years ago.
She was about to fold the paper back into her jacket when she remembered one very important point she had written behind the paper.
The luminous spring, was the cause of her father's death.
4) Find the secret to that spring and give it out to any pack that would be interested. Then my revenge will be done. She concluded.
With that, she put the paper in her pocket.
It would be a joyous day tomorrow for the Blackwood pack, but they had no idea what awaited them.
"I'm Amaya Aiko Hunter, daughter of the late Darius and Luna Hunter, a sister to late Chairo Hunter. But that was in the past."
"I'm now called Aiko. No one has to know the real me until my revenge is over."
Her once long black and wavy hair was now dialed all white. Making her unrecognizable.
She stood up and dusted her clothes.
She then started off at Blackwood Pack.
A small dagger was hidden in her jacket from the inside. And her little piece of paper.
The language she understood was revenge that involved blood spilling and nothing else.
