When I saw my most vulnerable moment being displayed by the man who professed to love me and even went ahead to make me his wife a week ago, it destroyed me. I stood there, watching how his friends laughed at our intimate wedding night, and I shattered into pieces. I didn't know he had a video in the room recording what I thought was a special moment between us. It was my first time, and I had been totally vulnerable to him, and his friends watched and laughed at me.
I had never felt my heart break the way it did-not even when my own family detested me because I was wolfless, instead of protecting me. I thought I had escaped the pain of a loveless family and the pain of never being loved.
They didn't know I was there, watching them-my husband at the middle of it all, controlling the remote.
Why was he doing this?
I had planned to surprise him with big news, so I decided to come home early from work in the human sector. Seeing this rocked me to the core.
I could not take it anymore, so I ran upstairs with shaky legs. I could still hear the echo of their laughter taunting me in the bedroom. I was wallowing in pain when I heard a noise in the bathroom.
"Who is there?" I asked, a little bit terrified.
I couldn't defend myself against a werewolf, so I took a thick book so I could use it to defend myself against the intruder.
I opened the bathroom door and saw my best friend, Melissa, holding my pregnancy test. I had forgotten it in the bathroom sink. I wondered if Darius saw it.
"What are you doing?"
"You are pregnant?"
"Umm, yeah... what are you doing in our bathroom?"
"Oh, I came to check on you. I didn't know you were not around. Congratulations on the baby," she said and hugged me tight.
"Thank you, but you do know I go to work at the human district."
"I don't know why you work with people lesser than us. I mean, just because you are wolfless does not mean you are one of them."
"Well, I enjoy it, okay? And we both know nobody wants to employ a wolfless she-wolf," I replied.
She looked around the room and saw my disheveled bag on the floor.
"Eden, are you okay?"
I couldn't bring myself to tell her what was happening downstairs. I had just dropped the bag haphazardly on the floor.
"I am fine," I replied.
"Okay, I guess I will see you later," she said and waved at me.
I sat down on the bed, placing my hands on my belly.
"No matter what happens, I promise to protect you," I said.
Later that night, Darius came to the room. I couldn't look at him. The hate in my heart for him at that moment was overwhelming.
How could he do this to me?
"Hey, when did you come in?" he asked, looking like a deer caught in the headlights.
"Not too long ago," I said, still avoiding his eyes. I was never going to tell him about the pregnancy. I just hoped Melissa would keep quiet about it.
He came behind me and hugged me. I stiffened, not wanting his touch at that moment. I loved him with all my heart, but after what I saw, all I felt for him was irritation.
I moved away from him, and I just couldn't keep it in anymore.
"I saw you."
"What?" he said.
"I saw you and your friends... watching us."
I noticed the moment he understood what I was saying. At first, he looked remorseful, then his expression changed so drastically to a chilling look.
"We were having fun, that's all."
"Are you joking right now? Having fun? How could you? I gave you everything. I thought you loved me."
"Love you? You literally threw yourself at me. You confessed to loving me, and I took pity on you. I mean, who would love a wolfless she-wolf?"
That cut so deep.
I had professed my love to him. I didn't want to, but Melissa encouraged me, and I did. He had told me he loved me too and wanted to spend his life with me.
"Honestly," he continued, "marrying you was a dare with my friends, and I don't lose out on truth or dares. Just forget about it. We are having fun."
"Fun? Having a video of us making love is so horrible, not to talk of showing it to your friends. You think it's fun to play with my emotions and make a commitment to spend the rest of your life with me?" I burst into tears, unable to hold it in anymore. "Why, Darius? Why?"
"Don't be such a crybaby. It doesn't fit you," he said.
"I want a divorce since this was a game anyway, and I don't play such games."
He got closer to me.
"You can't leave me. You leave when I want you to."
He then kissed me harshly. I tried to push him away, but he didn't budge. When he did, I slapped him, forgetting that he was a werewolf and I didn't have my wolf.
He held his face and turned it to me. His eyes had changed color to his wolf's, and his canines were visible. He held me by the throat with his hands, his claws digging into my neck. He lifted me up like I was nothing but paper.
"How dare you?" he said. "Count yourself lucky I do not want to stain my hands with your filthy blood, wolfless bitch."
He threw me across the room, and I angled my body so I could protect the life in me. Then he left the room.
I lay where I was-broken, hurt, and utterly shattered, unable to stop my tears.
***
I woke up the next day, still lying where I had cried myself to sleep. My phone had woken me up..I crawled to where it was and opened it.
It was a message from the Luna telling me my presence was needed at the Alpha house immediately.
I dressed quickly and left for the Alpha's house. The moment I stepped inside, my stomach twisted.
Everyone was there. My stepmother, my stepsister, my father. Melissa, Darius and his father. All of them... in one room. Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
My eyes instinctively went to Melissa. I trusted her-or at least, I thought I did. But seeing her standing with them, aligned with people who had never wanted me, made something cold settle in my chest.
My stepmother hated me because of my mother. Because she had an affair with my father, her husband which resulted in my birth. And she made sure my stepsister did too.
My father... he just watched. He once told me being wolfless made me less than human.
I never asked to be born. Never asked to be the result of his affair with my mother. But somehow, I was the one punished for it.
"Hello, Eden," Luna Emilia said, her voice calm but heavy with authority. "Something has been brought to our attention."
"Hello, Luna. Hello, Alpha," I replied quietly.
The Alpha didn't respond. He only gave a slight nod. He had never truly acknowledged me-not even as Melissa's friend.
"My daughter brought us something concerning," the Luna continued. "And given the severity of adultery in this pack, I want to give you a chance to explain yourself before punishment is decided."
My heart dropped. My mother was punished because of this, and died because of it.
"Adultery?" I repeated. "Luna, what are you talking about? Melissa-what is she talking about?"
I turned to her, searching her face.
She wouldn't look at me. The Luna stepped forward and handed me a set of pictures. My fingers trembled as I looked down. And everything inside me went still.
It was me.
Naked and In bed with a man I had never seen before.
"No..." I whispered, my breath catching. "This-this isn't real. I've never seen this man in my life!"
My voice rose in panic as I turned to Melissa.
"Melissa, what is this? Where did you get this? Why are you doing this?" My voice cracked. "You know me. Better than anyone here-you know I would never do something like this!"
She finally looked at me. But there was no warmth in her eyes.
"I thought I knew you," she said coldly. "But clearly, I didn't. Cheating on Darius? The Beta's son?" She shook her head. "You deserve whatever punishment comes."
For a moment, I couldn't speak..I just stared at her. My best friend.
Then I turned to Darius.
"You don't believe this... do you?" I asked, my voice barely holding together. "I've only ever been with you."
He leaned back slightly, his expression unreadable.
"The evidence is in your hands," he said. "Looks pretty clear to me. Seems like you've been sleeping around behind my back."
"This is fake!" I insisted. "The pictures are doctored!"
Melissa let out a sharp laugh. "Are you calling me a liar? Why would I fake something like this? You're my friend." Her tone twisted. "Or at least, I thought you were. I just couldn't ignore your... behavior. Darius deserved the truth."
"Don't mind her," my stepmother, Gwen, cut in smoothly. "She's always been like this. Like mother like daughter. I tried to guide her, but she never listens."
She smiled. And it was full of satisfaction.
"She's always been a slut."
The word hit like a slap. I looked at my father. Just once... I wanted him to defend me. To say something. Anything.
Instead, he looked at me with disgust.
"You've brought shame to this family," he said flatly. "You will pay for this."
Something inside me cracked. There was no one here for me.
No one.
Desperation clawed at my chest, and before I could stop myself, the words spilled out hoping it would save me.
"Darius... I'm pregnant."
Silence filled the room. For a brief moment, something flickered in his eyes. Then Melissa placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Oh please," she said lightly. "We already know the pregnancy is from your lover. He confessed."
My head snapped toward her.
"What?! That's a lie-you know that's a lie!"
"Well," she said with a small smile, "why don't we hear it from him?"
The Luna gestured to one of the enforcers. He left the room and returned moments later, dragging a man in chains. My heart pounded as the man lifted his head.
It was him.
The man from the pictures. He looked straight at me...
And smiled.
"My love," he said.
I stumbled back.
"I have never seen you before," I said, my voice shaking. "Who are you? You need to tell them the truth-please!"
"What truth?" he said casually. "That we've been having an affair?"
"No!" I cried, rushing toward him. "You're lying-stop lying!"
"Compose yourself," Luna Emilia said sharply.
I froze.
Her gaze shifted to the man. "Is the child she's carrying yours?"
He didn't hesitate.
"Yes," he said. "It's mine."
My world tilted. Nothing made sense. This was a setup. A perfect, cruel setup.
"I believe I've heard enough," the Alpha finally spoke, rising from his seat.
The room fell completely silent.
"Take him away," he ordered.
The enforcers dragged the man out. Then the Alpha's gaze settled on me.
"As for you," he continued, his voice cold and final, "your marriage to Darius is hereby dissolved."
My chest tightened.
"And since you are wolfless... a matter long overdue-your status is reduced to Omega."
The word echoed in my head.
Omega.
The lowest of the low.
"You would have faced harsher punishment," he added, "but due to your pregnancy, you will be spared."
Spared.
This was punishment.
"I am disappointed in you, Eden."
I turned toward the voice. It was Beta James. And what he said hurt more than anything. He had been more of a father to me than my own ever was.
"I should never have allowed you to marry my son."
That was it. There was nothing left to say. Nothing left to fight with.
The Alpha had spoken.
And no one defied him.
My knees gave out, and I collapsed to the floor. The pictures slipped from my hands, scattering across the ground.
I looked up one last time. At all of them. And I saw the satisfaction, the quiet triumph.
This was planned.
Carefully and cruelly.
And I had walked straight into it.
Rough hands grabbed me, dragging me to my feet. I didn't resist.
Didn't speak.
Didn't cry.
As they pulled me out of the room to a fate worse than death.
I was not allowed to pick any of my clothes from my house. Instead, I was dragged to the Omega quarters and dropped there like a sack of potatoes.
I looked from where I was and noticed the Omegas looking at me and whispering.
"So, the wolfless girl has finally been brought to us. It sure took the Alpha some time to do that."
A voice said, walking towards me.
"Get up, there is plenty of work to be done. I don't need lazy bones here."
I was staring at her, still a bit disoriented, then she got close to my face.
"Are you deaf? I said get up, or I will force you up, and you wouldn't like that," she said.
I had had enough of being dragged for today, so I used the strength left in me to stand up. God knows all I wanted to do all day was to lie down somewhere and wallow in my hurt and pain. But it seemed I would not be allowed to do that.
"Call me Madam Jean. I am the one in charge here. Do as I say, and your life will not be as miserable. But cross me, and you would wish you were never born."
I nodded my head and bowed in submission, just so she knew I did not want any trouble. And that seemed to satisfy her.
"Good. Now, once you come into this house, whatever I call you is what you will be named from now on. Forget your name. Nobody cares who you were. That is your past. Every Omega here knows that, and it's good you know that early. I will call you Wolfless," she said, looking like she had found the world's secret.
Then she continued, "And seeing that you are the first Omega we would have without a wolf, your position here will be the lowest. Now follow me to the kitchen. There is a lot to clean up."
Madam Jean led me to the kitchen area. She looked petite but had cruel lines around her face, like she had not smiled in decades. Every Omega we encountered immediately moved away from her path in fear, and they bowed their heads.
This place looked like hell.
Omegas were the last thought of in the pack. They wore clothes that had been over-worn by pack members, and when it came to food, whatever scraps were left were handed over to them.
I got to the kitchen. I looked up, and for the first time being here, I saw a familiar face.
She looked at me, her eyes wide with surprise.
Her name was Irene, and once I saw her with clothes literally falling off her back, so I had quickly rushed home to get her some of my clothes secretly and had given it to her.
She immediately avoided my eyes when she saw Madam Jean and went back to work.
"We have a new Omega. Her name is Wolfless. She will work here today. Ensure she doesn't slack at all. If she ever does, report her immediately."
Then she faced me.
"Get to work."
I nodded my head. Then the girl I helped came towards me, held me by the biceps, and pulled me towards where she was working.
The Omegas were in charge of taking care of everything that the Alpha household needed, and right now, they were preparing lunch.
"Just go over there and peel the potatoes, and be fast about it," she said.
I sat in the corner peeling the potatoes. My stomach grumbled. I had not eaten anything since this morning. My appetite returning now was the worst time ever.
I wondered if I could get anything to eat. So I stood up from where I was and went to where Irene was.
"Is there anything I can eat, please?"
"We don't eat until we are done with work and the Alpha has eaten," she replied, still avoiding eye contact with me.
I didn't know if I could wait till then. My need for food had increased tenfold since I discovered I was pregnant.
"Please," I said, holding the hem of her clothes. "I am pregnant, and the hunger is really biting."
Once I said I was pregnant, she looked at me with fear.
"A pregnant Omega has the worst fate. Don't let anyone here find out you are pregnant."
She moved closer to me, trying to block anyone else's view from seeing what she had in her hand. It was a piece of bread.
I immediately took it.
"I never gave that to you," she said, and I nodded my head in understanding.
I went back to where I sat and continued peeling the potatoes, and when nobody's attention was on me, I would take a bite from the bread given to me. We finished cooking the lunch and were told to take it to the Alpha's mansion. I planned on staying back, but Madam Jean would not allow it.
"Wolfless, Miss Melissa insisted you serve them with the other Omegas. Pick one of the trays and follow me," she said.
I stood there, shocked at what she said.
I guessed Melissa wasn't satisfied with framing me. She also wanted everyone to see my humiliation.
Still in the clothes I wore this morning-but now soiled with the activities I did in the kitchen-and I didn't have any other cloth to wear. I tried to smooth them as much as I could, picked up a tray, and followed the rest of the Omegas.
I noticed some pack members pointing at me, and some whispers got to my ears.
"Is that Eden?" a she-wolf said.
"Oh my gosh, I think so," another she-wolf replied.
"Well, finally she is now where she is meant to be."
Then they laughed. I felt really embarrassed. I guessed to them, being wolfless meant I was a nobody.
I got to the Alpha's mansion, and we set the food on the dining table.
We were almost done when the Alpha and his family came in, as well as my stepsister and my ex-husband. I wondered what she was doing with Melissa, and what my ex-husband was doing here.
They all sat down, and the Omegas and I stood at the far back. Madam Jean explained the menu and also stood with us once she was done.
I tried to be as small as possible so they wouldn't pay attention to me, but I guess that was a wish that would never come true.
"Eden."
I heard my name, and I jumped from where I was because I was already dozing off. I looked up and saw Melissa calling to me.
"Come cut this for me," she said.
I hesitated, but then Madam Jean looked at me fiercely, so I immediately went to where Melissa sat and cut the steak on her plate. I raised my head and looked at Darius. He continued eating, not even pretending to ignore me.
Just as I was done and about to leave, my stepsister stretched her legs out. I didn't see it fast enough, and I tripped.
"Watch where you are going, slut," she said, laughing really hard.
I stood up and limped to where I stood because I had hurt my hip in the fall.
I made up my mind then that I would find a way out of here.
My child and I weren't safe here.
