He paraded Vivian around, singing "our song" with her at the community show, then gave her our cherished time capsule, and finally, went live to brand me as a delusional stalker, all while his new affair meticulously spun lies to destroy my reputation and budding career.

But I wouldn't be silence; I planned my comeback on national radio, forcing him to face the truth and exposing his manipulative mistress once and for all.

Chapter 1

Fifteen years. I gave Ethan fifteen years of my life. He repaid me with three major betrayals.

First, he cheated.

Second, he denied our relationship in public.

Third, when my grandmother died, the person who loved me most in this world, he was with another woman.

That was the final blow. It broke me.

I woke up in a hospital bed. The room was sterile and white, and a dull beeping sound came from a machine beside me. My left ear, the one that had been damaged since I was a child, heard nothing. My right ear picked up the faint murmur of voices outside the door. It was my friend, Ashley.

"The doctor said she' s lucky she was found in time. Her stomach is pumped, but she' s weak."

Then I heard his voice. Ethan. "Is she awake yet?" His tone was flat, without any real concern.

"Not yet. Ethan, how could you? Grandma' s funeral... you didn' t even show up. You know how much she meant to Chloe."

"I was busy at the hospital. I had a patient, Vivian. It was an emergency."

Vivian. The name echoed in the silence of my mind. It was the name of the patient he was always "busy" with. The one whose messages filled his phone, whose calls he always took, no matter what we were doing.

I closed my eyes, a single tear rolling down my temple. The beeping of the machine seemed to get louder, matching the pounding in my head.

We had been together since we were sixteen. We grew up next door to each other. He was the golden boy, the charming, handsome aspiring doctor. I was the quiet girl with a difficult home life, the girl he always protected. He taught me how to ride a bike, helped me with my homework, and held me when my mother' s screaming became too much to bear. He was my world, my safe harbor in a life full of storms. For fifteen years, he was everything.

But people change. Or maybe, they just reveal who they always were. Over the past year, Ethan had grown distant. He was always working late, always tired, always on his phone. The excuses piled up. It was always about a patient, a very special patient named Vivian. He said she was fragile, that she needed him.

The day my grandmother' s funeral was scheduled, I begged him to come. "Please, Ethan. I can' t do this alone." My grandma had been more of a mother to me than my own. She was my rock.

"I' ll be there, Chloe. I promise," he had said, but his eyes were already on his phone, a message from Vivian lighting up the screen.

He never showed up. I stood there at the cemetery, surrounded by a few distant relatives, feeling the loneliest I had ever felt in my life. The rain started to fall, mixing with my tears. I called him, over and over. He didn't answer. Later that night, I saw a post on social media. Vivian, the influencer, had posted a picture of a beautiful candlelit dinner. The caption read, "Thank you, Dr. Hunt, for taking such good care of me tonight."

That night, after the funeral I attended alone, I went home to our empty apartment. I found the bottle of sleeping pills in the medicine cabinet. I didn' t think. I just wanted the pain to stop.

Now, lying in this hospital bed, I heard him trying to get me to talk. He had come into the room and was sitting by my bed. "Chloe? Can you hear me? The doctor said you' re going to be okay."

I didn' t open my eyes. I didn' t want to see his face. I didn' t want to hear his empty apologies.

"I' m sorry about the funeral," he said, his voice still lacking any real emotion. "Vivian had a panic attack. I couldn' t just leave her."

He still chose her. Even now, after I had tried to end my life because of the pain he caused, he was still defending her. That was when I knew. It was over. Not just the relationship, but my hope for him. He was a lost cause.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked at him. The man I had loved for half my life looked like a stranger.

"We' re done, Ethan," I said, my voice hoarse and weak but firm.

He looked surprised, as if the thought had never crossed his mind. "What are you talking about? Don' t be dramatic, Chloe. You just need to rest."

"I' m breaking up with you."

He stood up, looking annoyed. "I don' t have time for this. I have to get back to the hospital." He didn' t argue. He didn' t plead. He just turned and walked away, leaving me alone with the steady, lonely beep of the heart monitor.

Chapter 2

The first thing I did after being discharged from the hospital was start packing. I pulled out old cardboard boxes and began to empty my drawers. Each item held a memory, a piece of the fifteen years I was now trying to erase. I was determined to leave this city, to leave him behind for good.

As I was sorting through a pile of old books, my phone buzzed. It was an email. The subject line read: "Capital City Radio - Host Audition Invitation." My heart skipped a beat. This was it. The dream I had held onto since I was a little girl, the one I had told Ethan about countless times, the one he had always dismissed as a silly fantasy. "A radio host? Chloe, be realistic. It' s a competitive field."

I opened the email. They had heard a demo tape I had sent in months ago, on a whim, during a rare moment of optimism. They wanted me to come to the capital for a final round of auditions.

I remembered why I wanted this so badly. My childhood was filled with the sound of my parents fighting. My mother was a volatile woman, and my father was a quiet man who eventually just left. The only peace I found was in my small bedroom, listening to the radio. The calm, soothing voices of the late-night hosts were my escape. They made me feel less alone. One night, after a particularly bad fight, I was hiding under my covers when a host said, "To whoever is listening out there, feeling lost or alone, know that you are heard." Those words saved me. I wanted to be that voice for someone else.

My left ear was a constant reminder of my mother' s temper. During one of her rages, she had thrown a heavy book that missed my head but hit the wall next to my ear. The impact had caused permanent damage. Ethan knew this. He had been the one to comfort me that night. He was my protector then.

I looked at the email again. The capital. A new city. A new life. A chance to finally become the person I was meant to be. I wasn't going to let Ethan's shadow hang over me anymore. I deserved this.

I texted back a confirmation. "I will be there." I felt a surge of adrenaline, a flicker of hope I hadn' t felt in a very long time.

A few days later, I ran into Director Yu, a kind man who ran the local community center. He had known Ethan and me since we were kids. "Chloe! Ethan! So good to see you two," he said, beaming. "We' re having our annual community talent show this weekend. I was hoping you two would perform your song."

Every year, Ethan and I sang a duet at the show. It was a simple love song that had become "our song." It was a tradition.

"I don' t think so, Director Yu," I said politely. "We' re a bit busy this year."

Before I could explain, Ethan walked up, a forced smile on his face. He had been avoiding me since the hospital, but in public, he still played the part.

Director Yu looked disappointed. "Oh, that' s a shame. Everyone loves hearing you two sing."

The night of the talent show, I went anyway. Ashley dragged me along, insisting I needed to get out of the house. We sat in the back, and I tried to make myself invisible. Then, the host announced the next act. "And now, please welcome Dr. Ethan Hunt and the lovely Miss Vivian to the stage!"

My blood ran cold. Ethan walked onto the stage, guitar in hand. Beside him was Vivian, looking frail and beautiful in a flowing white dress. She smiled demurely at the audience, then looked up at Ethan with pure adoration.

He didn't look at me. He didn't even glance in my direction. He started to strum the guitar, the familiar opening chords of "our song" filling the auditorium. And then, he and Vivian started to sing. Their voices blended together, singing the words that were once mine. The words he had once sung only to me. It felt like a public execution of our entire history. The audience clapped, oblivious. But I saw it for what it was. He wasn't just singing a song with another woman. He was replacing me, in front of everyone we had ever known.
