Chapter 1 001

Kylie

"But when exactly, Jason? I've been patient enough," I heard Selene say.

A million questions flooded my mind. What was Selene doing here?!

"A little longer, sweetheart. Remember the doctor already confirmed that you cannot carry a pregnancy. I'm just waiting for that omega bitch, Kylie, to give birth to my heir. Once that's done, you will take the child. And then we can dispose of her, dump her in the trash where she truly belongs."

My knees grow weak. I could not breathe. Suddenly, the world began to spin, and I got the overwhelming urge to throw up.

No, no, no. This can't be happening to me. I stood frozen at the door, tears filling my eyes as I struggled to make sense of what I'd just overheard.

My chest was so painfully tight that I could hardly breathe. Bile had risen to my throat up to the point where I felt like I was going to throw up. As I stood there in a daze, I questioned if this was truly happening. If I was truly hearing my best friend discussing my downfall with my fiance

A fat tear slid down my cheek. Selene, who I thought I could trust with my life, was with my mate all along. And Jason was in on it? Jason was cheating on me with my best friend. A sob almost broke from my throat, I had to muffle it by putting a hand over my mouth. My whole body trembled as I stood outside Jason's study having a breakdown.

I couldn't believe this was happening to me. I thought...I thought Jason loved me. I thought he truly cared about me. He had been good to me, he had stuck by me, he had been supportive. Finding out that he had been faking his love for me this entire time was the most heartbreaking thing I had ever experienced. I wanted to collapse to the ground and sob till my throat felt raw.

Only minutes ago I was filled with joy at the thought of seeing Jason, I had counted myself as the luckiest girl in the world. Now my entire life was crashing down right in front of me. Tears ran down my cheeks as I cried quietly outside the door.

Why would he do this to me?! Why would Selene do this to me?! What had I done to deserve this from the two of them?! My heart felt like it was going to break.

For a second, the pain resentment built so high in my chest that I wanted to barge right in and confront them. My fists clenched shakily as I stood in front of the door, my heart pounding.

But then I thought better of it. This whole conversation was a plot against me. Jason was planning to use me as a breeder, to bear an heir for him and Selene, and from the look of things, he was planning to do it by every means possible. If I revealed myself to them now, it would only make their plans easier to execute.

So, with pain in my chest and tears still spilling from my eyes, I hurried out of the room and headed back outside.

Just before I came into view, I wiped my eyes and tried to shake off the feeling. I just wanted to ignore the drama and go my way without drawing attention to myself.

"So...how did it go? What happened?" Thomas, my other friend that I asked to bring me here so I could give Jason a surprise visit asked me.

He was still seated in the car when I arrived, but he climbed out when he saw me.

I almost burst out crying again but I held myself back. "Nothing," I answered casually. "Jason isn't home right now. I'll just come back another time."

"Oh..damn, sorry we had to come all this way. Are you sure you're okay?"

I nodded. "Of course. Let's go."

I was seated in the passenger seat of Thomas's car as he drove down the highway, the wind blowing in my hair, Christmas lights twinkling all around us, and the warm sun shining on my face. Just a few hours ago, I thought everything was falling into place-getting married to Jason in two days filled me with joy, especially because it was the Christmas period. Weddings during this time were always the talk of the town, with everyone back in the pack for the holidays and ready to celebrate.

Not only that but I had just gained admission into my dream college, and soon, I would be marrying the love of my life-Jason, the man who had made the last few years of my life worth living. All the good things I could ever wish for were happening back-to-back. It was truly a blessing, one I did not want to celebrate alone. Which was why I headed to Jason's palace halfway across the city to give him the good news

One of the reasons why I'd fallen for him so fast and so hard. He never made me feel small or less or myself. I couldn't help but feel like literally the luckiest girl in the world. Even though I was a low-level omega and an orphan, he never treated me like trash.

On the contrary, he was always kind to me. How could I resist falling for a man like that? And when he accepted me as his mate, I was so overwhelmed with joy that I cried.

I was such a fool.

Thinking of all this now made me realize how stupid I had been to think that Jason actually loved me. My eyes blurred with tears again. I was still trying to calm myself down when suddenly, the car made a powerful impact.

"AAAHHHH!!!"

A piercing scream tore from my throat when suddenly an speeding car appeared from the side, heading straight for our car.

"Fuck!!" Thomas swore. I watched in fear as he swerved the car in the other direction just in time, avoiding the speeding truck by a few inches.

My heart was pounding in my ears when the car stopped. "Are you okay?!"

Thomas nodded.

Through the side mirror, I saw that the stupid car that had almost hit us was parked at the side of the road. My fear turned to boiling anger faster than lightning, and I found myself climbing out of the car and heading over to the other side of the road. The driver of the car had not come out and that made me angrier.

Everything was already fucked up. Jason, Selene, and now this dumb person of a driver.

"What the fuck?! Don't you know this is a highway? You just sped out of nowhere like a madman. You could have killed us! I'm talking to you! At least have the decency to step out and check for damages, you bloody jerk!"

The car door clicked open and a young man stepped out. My breath hitched in my throat at the sight of him. Holy fuck of all things good. He was...gorgeous.

For a second, I almost lost my composure. The tall, dark haired guy, handsome as sin, towered over me, a smirk tilting the corner of his lips, and those icy blue eyes seemed to stare into my soul. For a long moment, I almost faltered. But quickly, I regained myself.

They had almost killed us! This was not the time to stare at him.

"Are you listening to me?! You almost killed us, why the hell why are you driving like that?!"

The handsome stranger still did not respond. At the same time, the driver's side of the car clicked open, and another guy walked out, his face scrunched into a murderous frown. I was taken aback by the resemblance between the driver and the guy I'd been yelling at.

"What the fuck is your problem?" The driver hissed, walking closer to me. "You think I don't know what this shit is? You're looking for excuses so we can pay for damages, right? You good-for-nothing gold-digger," he hissed.

Hot anger rushed through my veins. This bastard thought I wanted anything to do with him or their money?

I looked him straight in the eyes. "Since you don't have the common sense or decency to see that you're in the wrong here, I'll give you something else." Slipping my hand into my pocket, I took out a dollar bill from my purse and shoved it into his pocket. "There. Use that to get a coffee because it's obvious you need to chill."

The guy glared at me, his fists clenching. "The fuck did you say?"

Just then, the back door of their car swung open and a third guy barged out. All three of them surrounded me, and instantly felt my heart drop to my stomach. But still I refused to back down. I was about to yell at them again when I felt myself being yanked backwards.

"Kylie..." Thomas's voice whispered urgently in my ear. I looked up, still seething, to see him holding onto my arm and pulling me away from the three guys.

"Hey man, sorry about that. I apologize for the way she spoke to you. We don't want any trouble, please," Thomas apologized to the guys. I whipped around to face him, still shocked. But before I could counter, he was already dragging me back towards our car.

"Why did you do that?!" I hissed at him when we were back in the car.

He gestured to the guys who were now getting back into their car. "Look at the logo on their sweatshirts. They're obviously students of Lythmore Academy. And you know that means they are all from rich and powerful families."

I was barely listening to him. "And so?"

Thomas started the engine of the car and started to drive. "I felt their aura from a good distance away, Kylie. Those are not ordinary boys. Their auras are like an Alpha's; very strong, very powerful."

I sighed and said nothing for the rest of the ride. "Are you sure everything is okay?" Thomas asked gently. "You've been acting unusual. Did something happen at the palace?"

His question made me so sad that I couldn't help bursting into tears. "I...Jason and Selene, they've been seeing each other. I overheard..."

Through tears brimming in my eyes, I told him everything I'd heard, adding in the part about Jason wanting me to bear for him before he discards me.

"I'm so sorry, Kylie."

I shook my head. "I just...why would he do this to me?!"

My voice broke, and I found myself crying silently. Thomas waited by my side, patting my back and trying to calm me down. Once I felt better, I wiped my eyes and stood, my mind made up.

"I have to leave. I have to run away. I can't let myself become a slave, never."

Thomas raised an eyebrow. "Surely you're not thinking of leaving everything behind and running away.."

"That's exactly what I want to do. I can't stay, Thomas. After everything..." another lump formed in my throat. "I can't...I have to leave."

"But Kylie, that's another issue. Your wedding to Alpha Jason is in two days'. And you know what would happen to the Alpha if his bride didn't show up on his wedding day. That would be a huge scandal, and he might not take it lightly."

I scoffed, shaking my head. "I don't care, Thomas," I said, trying not to cry. "Jason will just have to find a way to sort himself out. That's the only option I have right now, and you know it. Jason would never ever let me go if I asked."

Thomas sighed, rubbing his temple. "I still don't think this is a good idea. Where would you go? Jason is an Alpha. There's nowhere you could go where Jason won't find you if he wanted to. Maybe you should just relax for now. Maybe there is a solution to this, at least before you get pregnant we will find a way around it-"

"What solution? I can't do it. I cannot get married to a man who is in love with another person. I can't. I have to leave."

Thomas said nothing. I felt myself getting teary again. I walked up to him. "Thomas, please, I need your help. You're the only person who can help me escape without Jason ever finding out. Please, Thomas, I'm begging you. I can't live a life like this. Please..."

Tears rolled down my cheeks but I didn't bother wiping them. I was too tired, I just wanted to leave this place.

Finally, Thomas sighed. "Alright. Meet me at the roundabout tonight. Pack light, okay? So your luggage won't wear you down."

I nodded, thanking him profusely, although my heart was heavy.

Chapter 2 002

KYLIE

As soon as it was nightfall, I packed a small bag and headed down to the roundabout. Thomas had said he would be here at exactly 8pm, so I waited. About fifteen minutes passed, and I started to grow worried. I dialed his number and waited. But it didn't go through. I was about to call him again when I saw his figure approaching in the darkness.

I breathed out in relief, thankful he had showed up.

"What happened? You took longer than expected," I said when he got closer. "I was even calling–"

The words broke, replaced by a gasp as I saw two more figures behind Thomas. When they stepped into the moonlight, my eyes widened in shock. Jason and Selene were behind Thomas. In shock, my eyes flew back to Thomas.

Just then he sighed and walked to stand behind Jason. "I'm sorry, Kylie, but my loyalties lie with Jason."

I felt like I had been stabbed in the chest with a serrated knife. Yet again I had been betrayed by someone I trusted. Tears filled my eyes. "Why? Why would you do this to me? Why?! After everything, why did you betray me, Thomas? Why?!"

I was so angry that I could barely put my feelings into words.

Thomas did not reply. Instead Jason walked forward and grabbed my arm roughly. "Ah, Kylie, you're even more stupid than I thought if you truly thought Thomas would be loyal to someone like you; a powerless omega, a nobody."

Jason laughed, and I stared at him, wondering how I had missed this side of him before.

"Jason, please–"

"Shut the fuck up, I didn't ask you to speak," he threatened with a voice that sent a chill of fear down my spine. "You thought you could escape under my nose?"

My heart fell to my stomach. "Jason, just let me go, please. All this time you've been dishonest about your feelings. Selene is the one you love, so please just let me go."

"You are not going anywhere until I am done with you. Until you birth a child for me and Selene, you shall remain here. Afterwards you can fuck off to wherever you wish."

Selene gave a tinkly laugh as she showed herself to me. A bitter feeling filled my heart. My best friend had betrayed me. It still felt like a dream now. But now, I could see the pure hatred in her eyes for me. How didn't I ever notice?

"You are so stupid, Kylie. I mean, you've always been stupid, but this?" She cackled again. "You're even more gullible than I thought, so much that you even believed Thomas was your friend?"

"W-What are you talking about?" My voice was shaky. I was mad at Thomas for outing me to Jason, but before then he had been a good friend to me.

At the look on my face, Selene laughed even harder. "Aww, you really did think he was on your side. Darling, Thomas knew the truth from the very beginning. Why do you think he was always with you? To distract you from Jason and I, obviously."

Without warning, tears slid down my cheeks. I stared at Thomas, hoping he would deny it. But the look on his face told me it was the truth. A sharp pain made my chest tighten. I had been betrayed.

"Thomas...what did I ever do to you?!" I cried tearfully.

"Oh, shut the fuck up," Selene hissed. "Did you really believe Jason would love an orphan omega like you? You really thought he was going to marry you. Such big dreams," she mocked. "Unfortunately for you, Jason is mine. And he has been mine right from the beginning."

Anger made adrenaline rush through my veins. As I stared at the three of them, hot anger overtook me. Without thinking about it, I walked closer to Jason. If he was betraying me, fine. But I would do something equally hurtful.

"I, Kylie, reject you, Jason, as my mate and Alpha. Before the moon goddess, I sever all the ties between us!"

A sharp pain exploded through my body and I sucked in a sharp breath in pain. I saw Jason go through the same thing, his teeth clenching as he went through the pain of the rejection.

"How dare you?!" He thundered when the pain subsided. "How dare a measly little thing like you reject me?!"

Angrily, he grabbed me by the neck. "Fine. I accept your rejection. But for this bullshit you did, I condemn you to death!"

He shoved me to the ground towards Thomas. "Take her to the dungeons! NOW!!"

"No, no, let me go!" I tried to fight back, but it was no use. I was brutally dragged to the dungeon and tossed inside like a useless item. Thomas didn't even look back once.

Sitting there helplessly, the tears I had been holding began to spill. I sobbed freely, openly. What did I do to deserve this?! "I-I've tried my best to just be a good person! Why is this happening to me?!"

The pain was so intense that I found myself on the floor sobbing helplessly. Curled up into a ball after crying for what seemed like hours, I faded into darkness.

I awakened at the sound of whispers outside the cell I was placed in. At first I thought I was hallucinating, but when my eyes fluttered open, I saw a hooded figure standing there and beckoning to me. At first, I shrank back in fear. But when the person spoke, I paused.

"I'm here to help you. Come," a male voice spoke up. I watched as he quietly unlocked the iron gates to let me out. I quickly rushed out and stood beside him.

"Who are you? Why are you helping me?" I asked shakily.

"That's not important right now. My priority now is getting you out of here, alright? Let's go."

I followed behind him, trying to get a glimpse of his face. But it was fully concealed. Once we were out of the dungeon he pulled me to the side and waited. Just as we were crossing the gates, the loud voice of one of the night guards echoed through the air.

"Hey! Who is out there?! Stop!"

The guards rushed towards us, but the man was quicker. He swiftly lifted me over the wall and began to fight the guards on the other side. "Run!" He commanded.

I cast one glance at the man who was fighting off the guards. I didn't even have the chance to thank him. But at his command, I took off. I didn't look back once, I just focused on running and getting as far away from here as possible. I heard footsteps behind me and I realized that some of the guards were running after me.

Fear filled me up as I ran faster. After a while I found myself in a neighboring pack. I was looking for a place to hide when I felt myself being dragged to the side. I was about to scream then I saw it was a woman holding onto me. She placed a finger over her lips, signing at me to be silent. I obeyed, and the guards who were chasing after me reached where we were. When they didn't see me, they walked away.

"Thank you..." I whispered to the woman who had saved me.

"It's no problem. You can call me Irene," she said, putting her hand out for a handshake.

I stared at her warily, wondering if it was wise to trust someone I did not know. But again, she had saved my life.

"Don't be scared. You can trust me," she said.

I hesitated, different

thoughts running through my mind. Then finally, I accepted her hand.

"I'm Kylie."

Chapter 3 003

KYLIE as KADEN

I was seated on a couch inside Irene's house, a cup of tea in my hand as we conversed. I had accepted her offer and Irene had invited me inside her home to stay the night. I had accepted because I had nowhere else to go, and somehow, my gut told me I could trust her. From the conversation we had been having, I learned that Irene was a widow. Her husband had died a few years earlier.

"So, what really happened? Why were those men chasing after you?" She asked, looking concerned.

I fiddled with the cup in my hands, wondering if I should come clean about it. I also reasoned that right now I had no one else to turn to in my life aside from her. And perhaps she might be able to help me. So, taking a deep breath, I told her everything. About Jason, Selene, Thomas, and about how Jason planned to make me a breeder. I also told her about the rejection and how he had sentenced me to death.

The color had drained from Irene's face when I finished. "Wow, that's a lot. I'm so sorry, Kylie."

I felt fresh tears about to spill, but I held them back. This was not the time. "So you see, I need to find a way out. I know I won't be able to hide from Jason for long enough. Soon he will find me, and I'm scared of what might happen. I just...I need to hide away somehow."

Irene listened and nodded, paying attention as I spoke. When I finished, she drew closer. "I have an idea. A way you might be able to hide."

I nearly jumped from my seat. "Really? How...how will that be possible."

"A disguise might be best. Hiding in plain sight is always the best way to escape. My son, Kayden, before he died, he gained admission into Lythmore Academy. He was supposed to resume after Christmas. He was looking forward to it for so long, it hurt me that he never got the chance to go."

"I'm so sorry, Irene," I whispered.

She smiled sadly. "It's okay. That is why you can take his place."

I grimaced, shocked. "What?"

Irene nodded. "Yes. The college isn't aware of his death, not yet. So you can take Kaden's identity, at least until we figure out another way to go about this."

I hesitated, tossing the idea around in my head. It just seemed very complicated. Was it even going to work? How long could I keep up the act of being a boy?

"It's the only way, Kylie," Irene assured me. "And if you are hesitant because he was my son, don't be. I'm the one giving you permission to take his identity. It will save your life, so it is for a good cause."

She was right. Finally, I nodded. "Okay. But how do we pull this off?"

"Leave that to me."

After I finished my tea, Irene made me sit in front of the mirror, and then with a skillful hand, she began to cut my hair low. Once she finished, I couldn't even recognize myself. I looked so...boyish, it was strange.

Weeks later, Christmas had come and gone. As I slowly awoke, I heard Irene's voice, filled with urgency, as she entered the room. "Okay, the bus will be here soon. You need to get dressed quickly."

I nodded, and quickly went through the routine of getting dressed in the uniform that felt awkward hanging off my body. I had also worn a binder to flatten my chest a little bit and make my disguise look more real. When I walked out of the room, Irene was waiting for me. She has already packed a travel bag which she packed for me.

"Here. The essentials are inside. Books, pens, pencils, everything you need for school." She then handed me some money

"Oh, Irene, you don't need to–"

"It's fine. I insist. You escaped in the middle of the night, I'm sure you don't have anything on you. So please, accept this."

I was so overwhelmed with gratitude. "Thank you so much. I promise to pay you back for everything as soon as I can."

Irene smiled, waving my words aside. "You don't have to. Just focus on the matter at hand, okay? And good luck on your first day."

"Thank you."

I was about to leave when she called me back. "Wait, there's one more thing. The most important thing, I forgot."

She took out a small bottle which contained some kind of liquid. She brought it to my neck and sprayed it on me a few times. The liquid evaporated just as she did that.

"This is a scent suppressant. Without it, your scent will be perceived as a she-wolf. Now, you won't have a scent at all."

"Ohh..will it last for a long time?"

"All day. So...here, keep it with you. You'll need to use it religiously, every single time as long as you are stepping out of this house."

I nodded, taking the bottle from her and slipping it into my bag, also making a mental note to keep it hidden.

I nodded and thanked her one last time before rushing out at the sound of a horn outside. I climbed into the bus and took a seat at the back. When we dropped in front of the school and I climbed out, I felt my breath catch in my throat.

"Oh shit..." I whispered under my breath. The school building was magnificent. I glanced from the giant doors to the Victorian style of the building. It was amazing, no wonder this place was for the elite. The wealthy.

I was still staring when suddenly I felt someone run into me. I turned around to see a face that was shockingly familiar. This was the guy from the accident! Suddenly my heart began to pound heavily, sweat forming on my neck.

What if he recognised me?! Oh gosh, this was not good.

"Mate!"

I froze. My wolf had just proclaimed. I stared at the guy in shock. He was my mate?! His scent filled my nose, and my wolf was so drawn to him.

Oh fuck. Shit. I needed to get out of here. This couldn't be happening right now.

I was about to leave when the other two guys from the accident who both looked like this guy appeared.

"Mate! Mate!" My wolf proclaimed yet again, making me realize that I was mated to all three of them. That was a shock. After I rejected Jason, I did not expect to find another mate.

Second chance mates were a rare occurrence. Except if the moon Goddess chose to bless you. And apparently, she had blessed me.

I was frozen to the spot unable to move, trembling from fear at what they were going to do once they felt the mate bond.

But to my surprise they did not seem to notice. Instead they were all staring at me with a bored expression. And then it hit me. They didn't realize I was their mate. They couldn't feel the mate bond. But...why?

"Our mates cannot feel the bond because of the scent suppressant. It is blocking off our pheromones," my wolf said.

Oh. That made sense.

"Why doesn't this dude have a scent?" One of the brothers said, glancing at me suspiciously.

As fast as I could, I turned around and raced into the building, heading straight for the restroom when I found it. My heart was pounding loudly, I was having a freaking panic attack!

No, no, no. Was this real?

I was still trying to find my bearings when the door opened. I was about to yell at the guy when I remembered I was disguised as a guy.

"Are you okay? You look a little pale," the guy said. He was tall and thin, wearing round thick spectacles.

I nodded. "Just first day jitters."

Ohh, you'll be fine. I'm Andrew, by the way."

"Kaden," I said, taking his hand.

"Nice to meet you, Kaden. Come, I'll show you around. Let's help you find your dorm."

Gratefully, I followed behind Andrew as he showed me around. When we got to the reception to check my room number, he led me there. After he bade me goodbye, I walked inside. But what I saw made my bags drop to the floor.

All three guys from the accident were my roommates!

I rushed out of there and headed straight to the dorm master's office. I explained everything to him, saying I could not stay in the same room with them, and if it would be possible to be reassigned.

The dorm master shook his head. "There's nothing we can do about it. You can apply for a change of dorms, and we'll look into it. But for the meantime you have to stay there."

A chill ran over me as I thought of it. I couldn't possibly live in the same dorm and all three of my mates when I was pretending to be a guy!

How the hell was I supposed to cope?
