Carleigh POV:
The silver powder embedded in the iron bars was corroding my skin, but I refused to give the guards any satisfaction. Three days ago, my father, Clemens Payne, had thrown me into the Silver Crown clan's dungeon, accusing me of almost causing the miscarriage of my unborn sibling. In their eyes, I was nothing more than a worthless, "wolf-less" waste .
They thought this cage would break me. They had no idea I was only biding my time.
Heavy combat boots clicked rhythmically against the stone corridor. The stench of damp rot and silver was abruptly obliterated by an overwhelming scent-pure, arctic frost fused with dark cedar, radiating the suffocating pressure of an apex predator.
I looked up through the shadows. A towering figure halted outside the cell. The dim incandescent bulbs caught the razor-sharp contours of a chiseled jaw and a tailored charcoal suit that cost more than this entire dungeon facility.
The guard fumbled with the master key, his hands trembling so violently that metal clattered against metal. "A-Alpha Lynn... she's inside, sir."
The guard retreated ten yards back, head bowed, not daring to meet the newcomer's gaze.
Jonah Lynn stepped into the cell. His presence shrank the filthy room instantly. Amber-gold eyes, cold and calculating, locked onto mine. He looked down at me like an emperor inspecting a stray.
I rose from the stone bench, casually brushing the dust from my orange jumpsuit, hands shoved deep into my pockets to hide the faint frost tingling at my fingertips. I didn't bow. I didn't lower my eyes.
"Carleigh Mays," his voice rumbled, deep and resonant as a cello. "Declared wolfless at sixteen. Charged with the attempted murder of the Payne Pack's unborn heir."
I curled my lips into a sharp, mocking smile. "If you came here to laugh at the Payne family's circus, the exit is behind you. Don't let the silver dust hit you on the way out."
Jonah didn't flinch. Instead, he reached into his breast pocket and drew out a rolled parchment sealed with crimson wax. He tossed it onto the warped wooden table between us.
The parchment unfurled. Emblazoned across the top was the crest of the Elder Council: Supreme Sovereign Blood Oath Union.
"Sign it," Jonah commanded, his tone smooth, effortless, and terrifyingly absolute. "Become my contract wife. I will walk you out of this dungeon tonight with your head held high."
I stepped forward and scanned the merciless clauses. "Jonah Lynn, the supreme Alpha of Silvercrest Pack, head of a multi-billion-dollar enterprise... digging through a subterranean dungeon for a supposedly useless stray? What's the catch?"
Jonah closed the distance between us in a single stride. His searing Alpha heat crashed against my naturally sub-zero aura. It was intoxicating, like fire meeting permafrost. "A mutual arrangement. You need a shield to reclaim what your mother left behind. I need a wife to silence the Elder Council."
His gaze dropped to the faint, snowflake-shaped birthmark hidden beneath the hem of my jumpsuit sleeve, his eyes darkening with unspoken intent.
My mind raced. To reclaim Azure Manor and Eleanor's legacy, I needed immediate legal immunity. A union with the highest Alpha in the territory was the ultimate battering ram.
"Three months," I said, holding up three fingers. "When the term ends, we dissolve the bond and walk away. No interference in each other's personal lives."
Jonah's eyes narrowed slightly, surprised that a prisoner facing exile dared to negotiate. Then, he gave a curt nod. "Agreed."
Without hesitation, I bit into my thumb until copper welled up, pressing a drop of blood directly into the center of the oath circle. The crimson seal flared with blinding gold light, binding our fates.
Jonah watched my unwavering gaze, a flicker of genuine intrigue crossing his features. He turned on his heel. "Keep up."
I stepped past the shivering guard. The man dropped to his knees, slamming his forehead against the damp floor, terrified that the woman he had starved for seventy-two hours was now walking out on the arm of the territory's sovereign.
Outside, the crisp night air hit my lungs. A black armored SUV sat idling in the moonlight, bearing the Lynn family's silver crest.
A Beta driver in a crisp uniform immediately snapped the rear door open with total deference. I climbed in, sinking into the plush leather, followed by Jonah. His massive frame made the spacious cabin feel suffocatingly small, his knee brushing against my thigh.
"Drive," Jonah ordered coldly, not looking at me. "To the Elder Council."
Carleigh POV:
The engine purred like a sleeping beast. Jonah sat beside me with his eyes closed, the silver cross totem pendant resting against his broad chest rising and falling with measured breaths.
I looked down at my stained jumpsuit, smudges of grime and dried blood clinging to the fabric. "You plan on taking me to the High Council looking like an escaped convict?"
Jonah didn't open his eyes. "Do you think I care about aesthetics?"
"Fair enough," I retorted, leaning back into the leather. "It's your sterling reputation on the line, Mr. Billionaire Alpha, not mine."
In the front seat, Thomas Hayes, Jonah's Beta driver, stole a startled glance at me through the rearview mirror. No one spoke to Jonah Lynn with such casual disrespect and lived to tell the tale.
Within fifteen minutes, the vehicle pulled up before a towering Gothic fortress carved from black granite-the Elder Council Hall, the seat of ancient wolf pack law.
I stepped out into the biting wind, the thin fabric of my prison garb doing nothing to shield me from the cold. Before I could shiver, Jonah walked up beside me, his broad shoulders naturally cutting off the icy gusts.
The guards at the grand stone staircase snapped to attention when they saw Jonah, but the moment their eyes landed on me, their expressions soured into open disgust.
"Isn't that the wolfless Payne girl? The murderer?" one guard muttered under his breath.
Jonah halted.
Without turning his head, he released a microscopic fraction of his Alpha's Command. The air grew instantly heavy, crackling with raw, suffocating dominance.
Thud. The guard crashed to his knees, gasping for air as if invisible steel bands were crushing his lungs, blood trickling from his nose.
"Watch your tongue," Jonah said mildly, his voice cutting through the silence like a scalpel. He resumed walking without another glance.
I followed him up the steps, my eyes lingering on his broad back. Cold, ruthless, yet instinctively territorial. Fascinating.
Jonah pushed open the heavy oak doors of the inner sanctum. Around a massive circular table sat five senior elders, their faces carved with centuries of pack politics.
Elder Winston Lynn, the head of the council, stood up with a scowl. "Jonah! What is the meaning of this? Bringing a disgraced, wolfless criminal into the sacred chamber?"
Jonah didn't bother offering a verbal explanation. He tossed the blood-stained parchment onto the center of the table.
"Register it," Jonah commanded flatly. "She is my lawful mate and Luna."
Silence fell over the chamber like a funeral shroud.
"Absurd!" another elder shouted, slamming his fist onto the wood. "Her genetics are defective! She carries no wolf, and she stands accused of slaughtering Payne's heir! We will not validate this farce!"
Jonah placed both hands on the table, leaning forward. His golden eyes flared with a lethal, predatory glow that forced the air out of the elders' chests. "I am not asking for your permission, Winston. I am informing you of a fact."
The sheer weight of his aura bore down on the room, forcing the elders to bow their heads beneath the crushing authority of their supreme leader.
Elder Winston swallowed hard, trembling as he reached into his robes for the Great Seal of Silvercrest. He pressed the heavy gold stamp into the parchment.
A radiant shockwave of golden light erupted across the parchment, etching the bond permanently into the pack's spiritual archive.
I snatched my copy off the table, folded it into quarters, and stuffed it into the pocket of my prison jumpsuit.
"Let's go, dear husband," I said, meeting Jonah's gaze with a smirk. "We have a Mating Ceremony to crash."
Carleigh POV:
The grand ballroom of the Grand Imperial Hotel blazed with crystal chandeliers, overflowing with the elite of Silvercrest Pack. Hundreds of high-ranking wolves, socialites, and pack dignitaries gathered to witness Clemens Payne officially name Denise as his legal Luna.
Our SUV screeched to a halt right in front of the red carpet.
I hopped out, the prison uniform flapping in the night breeze. Jonah stepped out from the other side, hands casually shoved into his pockets, trailing two paces behind me like a shadow of pure death.
Two burly bouncers with electric shock batons blocked the entrance. "Halt! This is a private Payne Pack ceremony-"
"Out of my way," I said calmly.
Before they could raise their weapons, a wave of lethal killing intent from Jonah paralyzed them on the spot. Their eyes widened in sheer terror as their knees locked.
I walked up to the towering bronze double doors, raised my combat boot, and kicked the latch with all the force my hidden bloodline provided.
BANG!
The massive doors flew inward, slamming violently against the marble walls with a deafening crash that echoed across the ballroom.
The bustling music and clinking champagne glasses died instantly. Hundreds of pairs of eyes snapped toward the entrance.
There I stood in the doorway, backlit by the moonlight, smeared in dirt and dungeon blood, a mocking smile playing on my lips.
On the elevated stage at the far end of the hall, Clemens Payne stood in a custom silk tuxedo, holding a diamond-encrusted Luna pendant. Beside him, Denise wore an immaculate white couture gown, her posture delicate, her neck proudly displaying a faint bite mark-a counterfeit mark purchased from the black market.
The diamond necklace slipped through Clemens's fingers, clattering onto the stage floor. His face drained of all color.
"Carleigh?!" Clemens roared, his voice cracking with rage. "You... how did you escape the dungeon?!"
I strolled down the red carpet, my boots squeaking against the polished floor. "Escape? Father, I walked out the front door."
Corina Payne, Denise's biological daughter, pushed through the crowd in a pastel pink designer dress, pointing a manicured finger at my face. "Guards! Seize her! How dare you show your filthy, murderous face here!"
I paused, looking at her like she was an insect. "Corina, did your etiquette tutors never teach you that pointing at your betters is bad manners?"
"Betters?!" Corina shrieked, laughing hysterically. "You're a wolfless defect! You have no beast, no rank, and no shame! You're garbage!"
The surrounding guests began to murmur, sneering at my jumpsuit.
Denise immediately clutched her stomach, collapsing against Clemens with theatrical tears streaming down her cheeks. "Clemens... my stomach hurts... Carleigh, I know you hate me, but must you destroy your father's happiness on our special night?"
"Security!" Clemens bellowed, veins bulging on his neck. "Tear this crazy bitch apart and throw her into the deepest hole in the territory!"
Four heavily armed pack enforcers lunged at me from both sides.
I calmly reached into my pocket, pulled out the crumpled parchment, and snapped it open in mid-air.
"Open your blind eyes and look," my voice rang out, sharp as a silver blade. "A sovereign blood oath, certified by the Elder Council!"
The nearest elder in the crowd squinted at the glowing golden stamp, choking on his breath. "That... that's the Lynn Pack Sovereign Seal!"
Clemens ripped the parchment from my hand. As his eyes scanned the names, his entire body seized as if struck by lightning.
"Jonah Lynn..." Clemens stammered, his voice barely a whisper. "You... you mated with the Supreme Alpha?!"
The ballroom erupted into chaotic gasps. Corina's face twisted in pure, venomous jealousy.
I snatched the document back and slapped it against Clemens's chest. "So, dear father... who's the crazy one now?"
Footsteps echoed from the entrance. The temperature in the room plummeted.
Jonah Lynn emerged from the shadows.
