The Sudden Rise of Nathan kane

"ouch!" Nathan screams from excruciating pain as he held his chin in pains

"Are these the groceries that I told you to buy? Oh God! how can someone be so useless and stupid at the same time " Mrs Gena laments just after giving the twenty-one year old boy a hot slap.

"Am sorry ma, i just..."

"shut the fuck up you piece of shit! " She yelled while trying to give him another slap but he was able to dodge it. He immediately ran away

"come back here you bastard!" She shouted as she ran after him.

"Hey punk, watch it!" Luiz screamed at Nathan who bumped on him. He was running away from Mrs Gena.

"Catch him, hold him Luiz!" shouted Mrs Gena while trolling down the stairs. Before Nathan could reach for the gate he was caught by Luiz who immediately punched him so hard on his stomach that he fell and writhed in pain.

"Nicely done son" she appraised him and then softly patted on his back.

"Where do you think you are running to? drag him inside? '' she ordered one of the guards.

"You are grounded for a week and from today all the house chores are yours and your meal will only be one and only when I want you to have it" she sounded sternly.

"I am sorry Mom! please.. "

"Oh my God! Did you just call me mom? Do I look like your mother? God forbid me having something like you. Your presence alone repulses me! You smell like a piece of shit" Her face contorted into an awful one. She spats bitterly on the floor.

"Come, let's go son and do well to wash your hand off his filthy body" she instructs her son Luiz while showing a repulsive look.

Nathan gently got himself up. He is in deep pain and tears rolled down his cheeks. Just then a young girl shouted from behind "Nathan! what happened?" She drew close to him and helped him to get up. "Is it Mom again? Am very sorry" She helped him to his room. She then helped him massage his wound.

Some minutes later, Mrs Gena started looking for her daughter around the house "where could this girl be?"

she mumbled with worries written all over her face.

As she passed through the entrance of Nathan's room she heard a voice resembling that of her daughter, emanating from the room.

She then opens Nathan's door and saw her daughter helping Nathan with his wound

"Are you kidding me right now, Mabel? what are you doing here with this dimwit?" She asked furiously.

"Mom, I'm just helping out nothing more besides it was you guys that did this to him"

she replied with a baby frown face

"Wait Mabel, Are you talking back to me? huh? I can see that you have grown wings. I have told you times without numbers that you should stay away from this infective parasite. Common, get up there and leave before I break you bone"

She then switched her gaze to Nathan who was lying on his bed

"and you, go and get ready to clean up the house " she sounded before she left.

Mrs Gena is the wife of the late Richard Jones who died of cardiac arrest. Before his death he had two children; Luiz and Mabel in their order of succession. He was a rich business man who made his fortune from the wine business. Before his death, his wine company was among the country's leading companies.

As rich as he was he was still a very kind, humble and generous man who was loved by the community and country at large.

That can not be said for Mrs Gena Jones, a very bitter, arrogant and classy woman. Mrs Jones was one of those that believe in class and she treats anyone below her standard as tramps and craps.

Luiz is the first and only son of his father but was never anything like him in fact he was one of those including his mother that accelerated the death of Richard Jones.

Luiz is a handsome huge looking boy who always appears taller than his age mates. During his high school days he was a well known bully. His recalcitrant and dubious attitude are well known. He caused a lot of problems both within and outside his home.

He once stabbed his fellow student and during that time, his father was terribly sick so when he got hold of the information he immediately had a panic attack that cost his life.

Mabel is entirely different from Luiz for she took after her father. His kind, gentle and loving personality were all embedded in her. She is the only one since the death of her father that actually cares for Nathan. She fell in love with Nathan when they were still kids.

Nathan grumbles as he painfully gets on his feet, he feels tired and weak. He could feel pain all over his body as he attempted to move. All he wants is a nice nap but he won't dare challenge Mrs Gena. He slowly staggered his way to the kitchen where he was welcomed by dirty dishes and clothes chores. He really had a long way to go.

Nathan is an orphan who was picked up by Richard during one of his out of town business deals. On that fateful day Mr Richard had a cardiac attack on his way to buy some meals in a shop stand. This resulted in him falling down. As he struggled on the floor, some street kids spotted him and they immediately rushed to take away his valuables.

As he lay helplessly watching the kids stealing from him a boy immediately came to his rescue.

The boy had the strength of three kids hence he dealt with them and returned the stolen items to Mr Richard. He was very impressed and thankful

"what's your name kid? he asked as he bent down to hear from the eight years old boy

"Nathan" he replied cheerfully

"Nathan, you are a good and special boy, where do you live?"

the poor boy then points under a bridge. Mr Richard was confused and he asked

"Where are your parents or guardians?"

Nathan then replied "I have no parents I'm an orphan" this really touched Mr Richard who then took him to his own home to be one of his households.

Nathan was one of the many children that escaped from the orphanage. They were maltreated and not properly taken care of by the management, especially sister Jane who always maltreated and physically abused them.

Since his escape, he has been wandering from one place to the other and has every time refuted any attempt by people to take him back to the orphanage.

Mrs Gena never welcomed the idea of bringing the little boy into his home but swore to make the little kid's life miserable. She was able to influence her son to have so much hatred for Nathan.

He was protected and cared for by Richard until his death.

"Nathan! Nathan! Nathan!" Mrs Gena shouted out

she continued "where the hell is this dimwit?"

she asked rhetorically in anger.

"Is that your husband's boy?"

her friend Mira asked mockingly as she laughed with the others. They were having a good time, a little get together.

Just then Nathan entered "you called me ma"

"You must be out of your senses so you reply when you deem it fit?" she asked in annoyance.

"Hmmm so filthy, Gena how do you live with someone that is so wretched like this?" one of her friends asked with a disgusting facial expression.

Gena immediately switched her gaze to her and glared at her. Obviously, she wasn't happy with her statement.

"Sorry my bad, I will keep my mouth shut" she apologies while using her hand to shut her mouth.

"You! go and get some refreshments for my friends" she orders Nathan

Gena is a very social being who likes to maintain the highest standard hence she mingles with people of her caliber. She is a self consumed human being.

After some minutes Nathan entered with a tray of drinks. On approaching the four friends that were conversing one of Gena's friend mistakenly brought the tray of juice down and it poured on Mrs Gena

"Oh my God!" she screams. She was so shocked that she didn't know what to do to him at that moment. Out of anger she immediately picked a broken glass and pierced it on Nathan's abdomen and he collapsed immediately. This created panic and chaos, most especially from Gena who was scared.

After two days of admission into the hospital he was discharged. The damage was not much, he was very lucky.

After two months of break, the University has finally reopened and students are trooping from one place to another. It was a very bright day as students were busy with one thing or the other but all were very excited.

Nathan was actually the happiest among everyone. That's certainly how he feels since school resumption means that he will be away from home for at least some months. Home was his nightmare although the school was not much better but at least he will not be physically abused by Mrs Gena and Luiz.

The three were students of Liberty University. They were also in the same year and it is their second year in school.

Luiz and Mabel reside outside the school at Imperial street where the very wealthy students reside. Unlike them Nathan stays in the Blue hawk hostel though cool but was nothing compared to that of Mabel and Luiz.

Richard Jones was a very wise man. knowing his health status he insured Nathan and his children's education. With this he was able to secure Nathan's education.

It was the least that he could do for the poor boy. He knew that Gena never liked the kid and if given the responsibility of Nathan she would surely neglect it.

In order to keep up with the very expensive tuition fees of Liberty University, Nathan indulged himself in some part-time jobs but still, it could barely cover up hence his living and clothing appearance was very below standard.

He was nothing like his pals and fellow students, he was a contrasting figure of what Liberty University stands for.

Liberty University is a school that enlightens the kids of the most powerful and influential individuals in the country. It is one of the most expensive schools in the country.

Nathan works at Macdonald's restaurant where he normally has his part time. His boss and colleagues at the workplace do not really help matters for his boss was a total jerk while his colleagues were not better.

Nathan's girlfriend or should I say secret girlfriend was Mabel Jones, yeah the girl she grew up with. Both liked each other but Mabel wasn't really proud of having him as his boyfriend hence she agreed for the relationship on the basis that it will be a secret.

Their relationship was a little bit visible only at school but at home they always act like they don't have anything going on.

Their relationship dates back to high school and since then they have been in the relationship even though the intimacy wasn't much.

Only very few individuals knew about their relationship and they included Nathan's roommates and Mabel's close friends.

Mabel is among the A5 list of the University which comprises the most beautiful queens. She ranks 4th on the list hence she was very famous and among the most sought out for girls.

Her friends always make mockery of her due to her poor boyfriend Nathan and they always at every given opportunity take a dig at his boyfriend, Nathan.

Nathan on his own part wasn't bad especially in terms of physical features. 6 feet 4 inches in height, fair looking and extremely handsome boy. To crown it all he is very smart and intelligent but yet his poverty ridden life always casts an awful shadow on him. This was the only single defect that seems to overshadow all his other appealing traits.

"Hey! come here you scumbag" shouted an obese man to Nathan as he was tip toeing into his work corner.

"You fuck face, What could be your reason this time?" he asked with an intimidating aura.

"Sir, the lecturer took extra time," he replied.

The boss then smiled mischievously

"Well I'm deducting it from your meager pay and that's final" he retorted with a determined expression.

As he made to take his leave he then stopped like one that is forgetting something

"boy! I don't want to see you near my office" he warned as he left.

He knew that surely Nathan will come by to his office after work to plead for forgiveness hence he forewarned.

Nathan was unhappy but this wasn't the first and probably won't be the last. As he dressed in his work uniform a blond boy with three girls entered. They were very loud and noisy.

'Noisy rich brats' Nathan thought to himself.

"Welcome, please, what can we offer you?" he asked, standing awaiting their orders.

They didn't respond as they were busy talking gibberish. He then repeated again

"what the fuck man! take it easy! you are embarrassing my friends" the blond guy yelled out of anger.

"Sorry" Nathan replied calmly

"just get me whatever you guys have." He shifts his gaze towards the girls "does that go the same for you girls?" he asked

"Yeah!!" they shouted in unison.

Within a few minutes he was back with their orders and he immediately served them.

"Hey douchebag! what the fuck is this?" he asked with a disdain look as Nathan was about to leave.

"What is wrong with it sir?" he asked looking confused

"Are you asking me? you reply my question with question, you must be an idiot!" he screams at him

"You look familiar," one of the girls commented.

"Yeah, don't you know him? the crowned school peasant" the other girl replied.

Nathan was very ashamed of himself. As he turned he could see that all the customer was on him and at this time he prayed that the earth would just swallow him.

Luckily for him his senior colleague in the restaurant intervened but not without receiving some harsh words from the blond boy.

As they proceeded to the door he turned and warned Nathan to watch his back.

"Go fuck your self!" Nathan shouted deeply with annoyance .

On hearing this the blond boy attacked him but to his dismay he landed on the ground after taking two devastating punches that matched exactly with his face from Nathan.

"Man you have to watch your back" Ruben tells Nathan as they were washing the dishes.

"Wait! for who? that spoiled brat! I will kill..."

"shut boy, do you know who that boy is?" He hushed him.

"I don't care bro he was the one that is at fault".

"Bro that's Desmond Elliott son of Williams Elliott a political elite and bourgeoisie" he sounded trying to scare him.

He continued

"man just pray that he doesn't come here looking for you but before then you and boss have a long talk".

On hearing this he became unhappy instantly, first his boss and now this guy. During the fight they have succeeded in breaking two glass cups and now he has to answer for it. 'At this rate my little pay will be all finished by the end of the month he thought'.

He left for his hostel around 8.30pm, by then he was really tired. As he entered he saw his roommates playing laptop game

"Man come let me give you the beating of your life" Jim boasts

"in your dreams" Nathan replied as he rushed into the bathroom to have a cool bath.

His roommates were his only friends although not best friends but at least they see him as a human being.

Two out of the three came from a middle class household while the other Blake was from a rich family.

Blake is though arrogant and annoying at times but he is kindhearted and most importantly he is an introvert. The others Jim and Baggio were ardent noise makers but very friendly.

After his bath he joined them in playing the game. He is a game lover, especially the football playstation. He then mentioned the name Desmond to them to know their reaction. The answer given to him certified everything that Michael, his senior colleague told him earlier.

A day after the incident two police cars immediately packed nearby the restaurant. He could see them but wasn't sure what they wanted.

He guessed that maybe they wanted to buy food but just then he saw the blond guy, Desmond with a patched face. To his chagrin he was pointing in his direction. He needed no one to tell him that he's the one being at, hence he thought about running but optioned against it besides it was self defense.

"Mr you are under arrest for physically assaulting Mr Desmond and that being said you have the right to remain silent" as one of the officers handcuffs him.

"Sir please I am innocent. He was the one that started it" he pleads. Just then his boss appeared and asked what the issue was all about but after hearing the complaint he told them to go ahead with arresting him.

'He had nothing to lose. I will find myself a better person besides I won't pay him his already worked salary since the week was the last of the month' he thought to himself and smiled mischievously.

Nathan was arrested and locked up in a cell without any charges against him. It took five days before Gena came to his rescue despite Nathan calling her since the day he was arrested.

She wouldn't have been there if not for Mabel and Nathan's roommate's persuasion. He was later released but on condition of writing a heart tendered apology to Desmond Elliott.

Mrs Gena also told him that he will pay him back the bail fee before he can come back home.

After some days he went back to get his pay from his boss but just like he expected he threatened him with the police and that was how he lost his little paying job .

Mabel visited him after his release but in secret, people must not see her hanging around with the church rat. Only very few people knew that they all came from the same home but even when told one will deny it outrightly.

Luiz and his younger sister were very comfortable and living a good life at school. Luiz was the school playboy while Mabel was the queen of the school. Luiz has always from time to time denied having any connection with Nathan. He also as of then warned him to stay clear of him at school.

The day of the incident was on a Thursday during their first year in the University. Nathan was inside the school canteen munching on some crunches coupled with a nice coca cola drink.

As he enjoys himself he sees Luiz and his clique making merry in the canteen. After eating he went to pay on the counter but to his disappointment he couldn't find his paying card. He searched and searched but couldn't find it. The vendor did not take it easy with him because she saw it as a scheme for him to leave without paying.

She started ranting and this drew people's attention towards them. Nathan felt humiliated so he immediately headed to where Luiz was sitting with his friends.

Luiz was already entertaining himself with the scene. As he noticed that he was approaching him he started to give him a sign using his face and hand with the clear instruction not to come near him.

Nathan saw this but pretended like someone who did not see it .

"Bro please can you help me out in paying this lady?"

as he points to the lady who was standing on akimbo waiting for him.

"Hey! hey! what's the meaning of this? who is your fucking brother? Are you on some substance?" he asked apprehensively.

Nathan was taken aback, this dude is just denying me he thought to himself.

"Luiz! Do you know this poor thing?" Hayley, one of Luiz 'many girlfriends asked with a demeaning look towards Nathan.

"No babe what possible connection could I possibly have with this poverty ridden dude" he answered impulsively.

"You heard him man, go elsewhere and beg" Nicholas, Luiz's best friend ordered as he stood up to confront him.

"I don't have all day boy pay me my fucking money"

The vendor rants as she goes for Nathan's school bag.

Everybody there could pay for the meal but still none came for his rescue. Rather they all sit, laugh, mock, cause and video the humiliating show.

In the most dire moment a voice emerged and its dominant and ice cold tone brought silence to the whole noisy crowd. "Leave him! I will pay" Blake ordered as he gave the vendor his card.

Nathan was very grateful to Blake and he promised to pay him back but he turned it down. Later on Luiz called him and warned him never to come near him as far as he is in the University.

"I can't be seen with a low budget being like you" he commented before ending the call.
