Chapter 1 Birthday Party

The night was well-lit, and the neon lights amplified the loneliness in the middle of the night. For many young people, the nightlife just started... Camila Reynolds normally would not come to this place! It was her 20th birthday today. Her college classmate Victoria Wagner booked the best chain nightclub in the city and invited several friends to throw a party for her...

Amid strong drumbeats, people drank boisterously and made noises. The smell of alcohol and tobacco pervaded the air. Those men and women wiggled frantically.

"Victoria! I need to use the bathroom!"

Camila shouted more loudly than usual because the place was too noisy.

"What? I didn't catch it."

As expected, the girl next to her didn't hear her clearly and asked in an equally loud voice.

Camila lowered her mouth to her ear and repeated.

"I need to use the bathroom! Will you go with me?"

When she stood up, Camila looked out of place. Her skin was smooth and fair. Her temperament was refined, and she looked more stunning than the clearest crystal. In a light blue dress and a pair of white shoes, she looked like a fairy.

"Go ahead, it's over there."

Too high to walk away, Victoria pointed to a corner on the left.

Camila looked over. The bathroom was in a corner at the far side, and she would have to go through the noisy crowd.

She sighed and sat back into her seat helplessly. Without the guts to go there, she took out her cell phone and texted her bestie Joan Chavez for help.

"Jojo, where are you?"

On pins and needles, she waited for the reply and checked her phone every few seconds.

"Camila, what are you doing over there? It's your birthday, cheer up. Come on, bottoms up!"

As a regular customer here, Victoria looked familiar with the surroundings, felt at home, and urged her friends to drink.

Camila glanced at the full glass of wine on the table reluctantly.

"I... can't drink much. Will half of it do?"

"No way, a toast should be a full glass!"

"Yeah, it's your birthday today, have fun! What's the harm?"

Those friends advised. Without a choice, she picked up the glass and drank in sips.

She frowned and took pains to finish off the wine as if it was poison. No sooner had she felt relieved than another glass was handed to her!

"Camila, you're quite a drinker. Don't hold back, happy birthday, cheers!"

"Huh? I really can't drink more, enjoy your wine!"

Appalled, she anxiously waved her hand to decline.

'I'll get drunk with this terrible wine!' She thought to herself.

But those beside her urged again.

"Camila, don't be a killjoy. We're here to celebrate your birthday. How could you refuse to drink?"

"Yeah, we've drunk a lot, and you've been playing with your phone."

Without a choice, she drank another glass! Or more like one shot after another! Her cheeks gradually turned rosy, and she was surprised by her drinking capacity. After so many rounds, she was still fine!

As the saying went, alcohol emboldened people. Following a glance at the dense wiggling crowd, she plucked up the courage, staggered up, and walked towards the bathroom. She tried to walk in a straight line but lost control of her body! She made it halfway when those men nearby itched to go up and flirt.

Chapter 2 Getting Drunk

Luckily, she was still sober and trotted to the safe bathroom.

Beep...

"Hello, Jojo, you're still not here? I'm getting drunk!"

She put one hand on the sink to prop herself. Her head was dizzy when she made the call.

Joan answered anxiously from the other end.

"Family issue, I'll be there later! Don't drink too much, wait for me!"

Before she could respond, Joan hung up the phone.

Camila felt desperate. If she went back there, people would urge her to drink more. If she left now, she found it inappropriate since she was the host today!

'Ah... I really can't drink more. One more sip will knock me off!'

She hid in the bathroom, planning to go out when they finished their wine. However, Victoria came in a short while.

"Camila, are you alright?"

It was a nightmare to hear the voice! She gasped and answered.

"Almost done!"

She slowly pushed open the toilet door and asked with her eyes narrowed.

"Have you finished your wine? It's about midnight. I'm feeling so sleepy and want to go home."

Camila staggered while Victoria looked all fine.

"Okay, let's go! They're almost done." She mused.

It was a relief to Camila who nodded with a smile.

'Finally, I can go home to my comfy bed!'

On her way back, she was quite happy. Such kind of place really didn't suit her! She raised her head and saw booths upstairs.

'There are booths in nightclubs?'

Victoria noticed the curiosity on her face and sneered.

"Curious about the booths upstairs? Those up there are mostly bosses and other rich people. They're at a different level!"

Camila remained silent and followed the scantily-clad girl closely. She didn't dare to look around lest those men were attracted...

"We'll leave soon. Drink this to relieve the intoxication. If you pass out, I'm not strong enough to carry you."

Victoria handed her a bottle of something like a drink.

Without even thinking about it, Camila took it and poured it into her mouth. She really wanted to sober up as soon as possible!

Sitting on a leather sofa, she watched Victoria see the other classmates off.

'That is supposed to be my job. She is so to arrange up everything.'

Camila rejoiced to make such a nice friend in college. Shaking her head slightly, she felt dizzier. Was the effect of the wine kicking in?

Victoria's expression changed as soon as she saw those classmates off! With a sinister smile, she looked at Camila. The drink from her was poisoned. It would not knock her off but would render her feverish and weak. It was obvious what would happen next.

Camila's face turned from rosy to flush and her breathing became rapid.

"Victoria, why am I feeling so hot? What was the drink that you just gave me?"

Victoria folded her arms before her chest. The 'kind' friend now looked at Camila with a gloomy face.

"Heh, just water, and I added something for you."

Following that, she waved her hand, and two men walked up with poker faces. They looked like the staff in this nightclub.

Chapter 3 Danger from All Quarters

Sensing an unfavorable situation, Camila tried to escape. As soon as she got up, her legs felt weak, and she almost fell. The two men went over and dragged her towards the elevator. The intoxication and that secret drug deprived her of her strength!

"Help, can anybody help me?"

In the noisy environment, no one could hear her faint cry for help. Even if someone did, he might not necessarily help her.

Like a lamb to the slaughter, she was taken to the elevator. Victoria didn't follow but just spoke simply.

"Room 309, take her there, the door is open!"

In black uniforms of security guards, the two men nodded silently.

The elevator went up and the door opened! The lights there were much brighter than those in the club, and the environment was eerily quiet.

"Let me go, please!"

She kept begging for mercy, but the two men simply ignored her. They got paid for the task and certainly would not let her go!

When they reached the door, the two men finally spoke. One of them had a deep, husky voice, which scared her even more.

"Is it 309? But the door is closed."

The other man sighed.

"It's okay, just leave her at the door. Given her condition, she won't escape."

"Okay, give her a call and tell her to take the girl away. If our boss finds out, we're screwed!"

They considered for a moment. To keep their jobs, they left Camila at the door.

Seizing the chance, she took out her cell phone and tried to call for help. Unfortunately, her phone was powered off at such a critical moment! Without a choice, she struggled to get up and staggered to the elevator. The heat in her grew stronger, and she just wanted to take off everything that packed up her body. At that moment, the drug hadn't taken its full effect, and she was still sober!

The elevator came up, and out rushed two men. Instinct told her that they were after her, and she dashed into the elevator before pressing the button to the 8th floor, the top floor of this building. Aware that it was dead-end downstairs, she had to go up and hide!

The elevator door opened. A man about 27 years old was standing outside in a dark suit. The collar of his white shirt was slightly open, revealing his fair skin. He had a pair of deep, bright eyes, a high nose bridge, and sexy lips. His delicate features were sculpted by God.

Only Camila didn't see his face clearly in her delirious condition. She rushed out of the elevator, stumbled, and fell to the man. He was appalled, but it was too late for him to dodge! With disgust, he shoved her away.

"Watch out, drunkard!"

Camila panted and turned to the strange man.

"Help, someone is chasing me! Help me, please!"

Perhaps due to the effect of the drug or her fear, she immediately held the man like her last straw.

Seemingly never close to women, the man avoided the stunner!

He pushed her away and asked coldly.

"Who is after you?"

Before she could answer, the two men rushed up aggressively!

Now he believed her and folded her in his arms in the nick of time.
