The Serial Killer: A headache for the police

" The Commissioner ordered us to go to Fenard right away as someone sent a letter that there's going to be a murder today." Ken said to James, who's busy flipping through a file concerning a rape case that happened in Raws recently.

" What!!Who sent the letter to the commissioner?" James asked with concern.

" I have no idea as regards the person who sent it. We've been told to act fast as the letter sounded like a warning letter.

" Then let us be on our way. We should not lose the slight opportunity of apprehending the criminal especially since the commissioner is interested in the case." James said,while trying to pick the necessary things needed for the operation.

The journey to Fernard was not smooth as expected preventing the vehicle from accelerating as it should be. The road's irregularities slowed them down, frustrating Ken.There was nothing that could be done rather than moving like a snail just like the attitude of the car.

" If I knew this road has some irregularities as it's presenting to us, I would have suggested we pass another place even though it's not as fast as this road,it won't give us problem like this road," Ken regretfully remarked.

This operation has something to do with murder and thus the reason for the regret and lamentation since someone's life was on the line.

" It is not your fault, ken. No one would have thought that this road has his own issues. At least, we're almost there and we can only hope we're able to stop the murder."

" We have no idea of the specific person to be killed. We can only hope that we're able to stop the murder," said James.

They got to Fernard as indicated in the letter even though it still sounds funny to believe a mere piece of writing enough to gather the Men to go to Fernard and prevent such even if the letter does not carry with it the effect as expected.

" What is the next thing to do now that we're at Fernard?" Ken asked. It was obvious that they only know the place of the crime which is Fenard but the exact place is unknown to them.

" We need to think of something as quick as possible if we really want to stop it," James said.

" Now that I think of it, it's likely that the person who sent the letter will probably be the supposed Killer. If a killer send a letter to the police,what do you think is the motive behind it?" James asked.

" It's to humiliate the police,"Alex answered abruptly.

" Good,it means that he's going to choose a place where a lot of people converge or always filled with a lot of people. Since his agenda is probably to mock the police."

" Ken, where is the most filled area in Fernard?" asked James.

" It's Rico park Sir. It's the most popular venue in Fernard and it's filled with a lot of people daily." He answered immediately.

" Let us hurry up before we miss the suspect.If truly Rico park is very popular in Fernard especially with children who usually come for fun. If the supposed Killer selected that place for the nefarious act,that means that a lot of things are at stake."

James is unparalleled when it comes to profiling in the entire police Force. That is why he's highly rated and respected especially when it comes to murder cases like this. Without any doubt,they all know it's likely that Rico park is the scene for the murder since it's from James.

They got to Rico park but to their dismay, the sound of children and their families were only heard. It didn't even look suspicious because the Park was also in a good condition.

" I believe this is the right time to strike if truly the motive is to kill someone," Ken said.

" Exactly what I wanted to say,what should we do or should we check other places?" Alex asked.

" This will be the place for the murder if a murder will really take place as we expect. Let us continue to inspect this place and observe any foul play."

" Alert others if you feel unusual about someone immediately. The criminal should already be in the park if there was going to be any murder," James ordered and one by one they dispersed to work on his instruction.

" Sir, I think that something is not right," Alex said running over to James' side.

They've been trying to observe the area but they could not depict any strange move or strange action from anybody at the park. Even James,was even about concluding that there was no cause for alarm and no murder anywhere.

He was starting to think that the person who sent the letter may be trying to pull their legs and nothing more only for Alex to call his attention.

" I saw a strange Man who passed here just now. I won't have called your attention to this if it was not really that serious even though the person was covering his face," Alex said.

"What made him suspicious was the fact that he passed this place three times with few minutes differences as if he was sent to observe us before they strike." Alex said with his eyes still traveling round the place whether the person will appear.

" Good of you,we will work on that immediately. Where is Ken?" James asked.

" He told you that he wanted to go and check the main office of the Rico park management whether he could discover something.

" Okay,we won't be able to wait for him since he also went in respect of the criminal." He said and directed Alex to lead the way since he saw the person leaving passing through a path.

They trailed a path and it led them to a building which also belong to the Rico's Park. They didn't see any sign that depict that anybody was inside.

" Sir, something is definitely smelling or I'm the only one smelling it?" Alex asked.

"I can also smell it something like fuel," James said.

" It's this building Sir. Somebody set this building ablaze." Alex said when he saw smoke emitting from the building.

Immediately, someone appeared he was trying to leave the building, but he was taken back at first since he didn't expect to see anybody follow him to the building but soon regained his composure and ran away since Alex and James were still trying to recover from their shock.

On the line without even asking,James identified him as the person they trailed to this place and without question,he ran after him with Alex tagging along.

They lost him and were even about going further when they noticed that people already gathered in a place with wailing filling the air.

" What is happening around here?" James asked and quickly showed them his identification card before any question.

It was then he observed that Ken was also at the scene. It might be the reason why he didn't join them in the chase.

They cleared the way for him to see the scene, since it is his duty to do that. After they cleared the way,he moved closer and didn't even know when he fell down.

He didn't expect this........

" What is wrong with you people?" The police chief roared at them immediately they got to his office.

" We're sorry sir,we tried our best to handle the situation,"Ken said sadly.

They expected that already especially knowing that the police chief was expecting a promotion and won't want anything to stain that. He is someone who is wary of things that could jeopardize his opportunity not to even add the fact that the commissioner was interested in the case.

" You tried your best and the result you could bring was announcing the death of the victim. You got there hours before the crime was committed which means the killer waited for you people to settle down before striking," the police chief added.

" You, James what got over you in the first place. You of all people know the effect of this on my promotion. How could you miss that?" He asked.

" I'm sorry Sir,we actually tried our best but it was unfortunate that we missed it. We will try and apprehend the person as soon as possible," James said.

He needed to say that to appease the police chief who is only obsessed with his promotion and nothing more. It won't be easy to apprehend the killer but he knows time will definitely tell.

" Good, I will be expecting the good news soon. You people can go while I quickly put a call to the commissioner to assure him the success of this operation soon", he said, and pat James on the shoulder.

" What did we even expect the man to say?" Ken said immediately they left the police chief's office.

" Exactly,we all know that the man is not concerned with anything that will draw him away from the promotion. The burden is on us to achieve that while he relax in his office making phone calls," Alex added.

" That is okay,we should not disturb ourselves with that issue. Let us look for a way to solve this case and get over it as much as possible," said James.

" Okay sir, that is really important. It won't do us any good to get in the bad record of the commissioner since he is interested in the case. It is surprising because it's unlike the man to be interested in such a case without a reason.

"Let us meet in the next one hour to discuss this case.Also make sure to call Angelina when you are coming," James instructed.

" She's joining us for the operation?" Ken asked in astonishment.

" Yes,we will probably need her more than you can imagine" James said in reply, while opening the door to his office and entered.

Even though James was the person who profiled that the murder will take place at Rico's Park,he was starting to assume that he was wrong.

In the end,they were unable to protect the victim's life who was murdered brutally. The murder was a well planned work and he knows that.

The person was murdered with his right hand cut off and that seems to surprise him. He keep wondering how a person will kill someone and cut his right hand off to do what exactly?

They had to send the man's body to the forensic unit for investigation on circumstances surrounding his death and to confirm whether the killer left some evidence they could use to track him.

" The forensic unit sent a file regarding Mr. Beckh who they did an autopilot for to define how he was killed," James started, after they were all on seat for the meeting.

" Good, did they find anything that can aid this investigation?" Alex asked happily.

The murder was a smooth work. They didn't find anything incriminating no matter how they tried,"James said sadly.

" That means that this murder was well planned from the beginning. That is why they had the temerity to send a letter to the police," Angelina said.

" Exactly what I thought, but they suspect that the person was poisoned," James said,while others looked at one another in surprise.

" They found some substances in him that proved that. I believe the poison weakened his system which gave the killer upper hand over them," he added,when he saw the confusion writing on their faces.

" I believe that even though it's not an incriminating evidence,it might also be of help to the operation," Angelina said.

"We are going to start the operation from this first lead," James said smiling.

" How are we going to go about that?when we all know that there's no way it would lead us somewhere," Ken said.

" I know that you will think so. The Forensic unit suspect a poison called Ivin. We just need to find out about the poison first. Ken and Alex I want you to find out about the poison and report it as soon as possible," he instructed.

" After that,we will know the next step to take after finding out about the poison and where exactly people can get it," James said conclusively,and ended the meeting since he still had to meet the police chief again.

Somewhere in Raws,Krung prison to be precise,a man walked out of the gate with smiles probably for his release from prison.

He dusted his clothes very well and even put on a shade glass to avoid recognizing him. He looks shabby and mischievous with his domineering smile ready to oust someone in authority from power.

" It's good to be free after a long time," he said, still putting on his mischievous smile and stretching his body like someone getting ready for another session of adventure.

It has been weeks of resilience and diligence, trying to nab the killer who killed Mr. Beckh but all efforts were proven abortive since no evidence was pointing to someone when there was no really a suspect anywhere.

The investigation regarding Ivin poison has not produced a great result as they all envisaged. For weeks,Alex and Ken have been visiting companies and even stores to at least get a hint but they were all claiming they have never heard of the poison before that Alex even concluded that maybe the poison was not from this planet.

Even though they have not recorded a new case similar to that but they were to solve this case since it was the order from the commissioner of police that even made it worse.

The police commissioner having interest in cases like this was like a ticking bomb ready to explode any moment.

"Any report on the Ivin poison yet?" James asked, as they sat down at their meeting venue to discuss the case as they have been doing for weeks.

" There's no news for now. They are all claiming that they have no idea and that's getting me worried. Or we are asking the wrong set of people?" Angelina asked.

" Who are we suppose to ask then if I may ask?"asked Alex.

" The killer will never buy the poison from registered organizations for fear of tracking him. He knows that those people will probably keep the record for future use and that could expose him,"Angelina said,while others nodded in agreement with her statement.

" That is true. It's funny how we didn't think in this direction for weeks. We forgot that we are tackling with a criminal and not a regular person."

" We should be able to get information on that from smugglers who are professional in the business," James said,while Angelina nodded for that is what she was just about saying.

" Ken and Alex direction changed. Later, you should follow me and meet someone who is a professional in the field. He should be able to direct us or introduce us to people who are familiar with that," he instructed though not smiling.

How can he smile when he's yet to solve the case? He's known for his obsession with unsolved cases especially with murder cases and he wonder why that is so.

He rose through the ranks through his persistence and sense of duty and that got him closer to the police chief.

There was an unsolved case of someone who killed his wife and children. He was suffering from a disease and was not able to control himself. The deed had been done before he could regain his composure and senses.

When he saw that he had killed his wife and children after regaining his senses,he absconded immediately. The police tried their possible best to apprehend him but all effort didn't produce the desired results.

The case was under the current police chief jurisdiction and he was facing a lot from the higher-ups for not being able to apprehend the killer.

Right then,James was a newly posted detective to the police chief district and when he joined the police, they were still on the unsolved case.

He single handedly devised a plan and apprehended the killer. He advised them to abandon the case and make it obvious. The killer after a year and observed that there was no news about him or trailing him, decided to return back to his normal life since they've abandoned the case out of frustration.

He fell into the trap since he was already relaxing, and let his guard down since he believed there was no problem. This achievement prove the competence of James and the beginning of his promotion.

" I want us to also note something down about the killer. I'm not fully convinced that the killer is a single person," James said.

" Why do you think so?" Ken asked.

"That day,we trailed someone who appeared suspicious and that landed us at a building. To our surprise,the person set that building ablaze and it correspond with the same time the victim was killed," James explained to them clearly.

" So you mean there might be an accomplice somewhere who assisted him? This cas will take longer time than expected," Angelina said.

" It's either they're in the same boat or it was due to circumstances. For now, there's nothing we can do about that than to pursue this from a single direction."

" Along the line,if the person is a partner with the killer,then something will lead us to him. For now, let us try and look at it from the poison angle," James said on a final note.

He was about standing up when his phone started ringing and on looking at it,he saw that the call was from the police chief.

He signalled to others to sit down back while he receives the call as they were about leaving the meeting room after rounding off the meeting.

Immediately after speaking with the police chief,he ordered Ken to switch on the television while Ken who was still surprised at the statement since they were about leaving the meeting room, quickly switched it on with the hope of finding out the reason after switching it on.

They were all surprised ,after Ken switched on the television and the breaking news that was displayed came with a shock on everybody's face and anxiety filled the air.....
