Their dream of building a happy family is tested amid panic and fear. Bryan, the father, works tirelessly to find a cure for Jason. He consults numerous doctors and medical experts, but no one can provide a definitive answer. Their hopes dwindle further when they learn that the only treatment for Jason's illness is a costly medication available in just one European country-far beyond their financial means. In the midst of despair, Angeline, the mother, refuses to give up. She is willing to sell all her jewelry and personal assets, while Bryan sacrifices part of his company's shares. But even their combined efforts fall short. How will Angeline and Bryan navigate this trial-filled journey? Will Jason's life be saved?

Chapter 1 Oh my, Jason!

It was a sunny and warm afternoon, and the three-year-old boy was happily kicking a soccer ball with his father. Anyone would have smiled at this sweet sight.

From afar, Angeline watched and clapped occasionally when her only child scored a goal. She stood up and cheered enthusiastically, causing Bryan to turn around and snort.

"You're just rooting for Jason?" Bryan asked. His tone sounded hopeless.

Without hesitation, Angeline nodded and smiled widely. "Of course I'm rooting for Jason!" she replied with an amused laugh.

Angeline was delighted to see Bryan's face, as if the man was showing that he too wanted support. Returning to her seat, Angeline slowly drank her mangosteen juice. She was really enjoying the atmosphere today. It felt calm and peaceful.

Truly, the happiness she now felt could not be expressed in words. Angeline was thrilled to see her little family intact like this.

Yes, she and Bryan had returned to the household with Jason as a complement. There was nothing more precious than that.

Angeline waved at Jason who turned to her and said, "Let Daddy win this time. Don't make me cry!"

Jason laughed, more like teased Bryan who looked rather upset. However, he didn't give him the ball as his mother had instructed.

"Just so you know, son, I gave in earlier to make you happy," Bryan teased back.

He would do anything to see his son laugh, and Bryan had deliberately neglected to guard his goal so Jason could score. Unexpectedly, Angeline, who was watching, didn't encourage him at all for the sacrifice he was willing to lose and make for their only child.

"Is it true?" Jason kicked the ball and ran.

Seeing that, Bryan followed. This time he wasn't going to give Jason a chance. Of course, he easily caught up, kicking the ball back as it rolled toward his goal.

"Dad!" Jason shouted loudly. He was surprised that his father was suddenly so strong, even though he had been leading the way.

Jason, who was still very young, didn't understand what sacrifice meant. He just thought he was the real hero because he had scored more than five times.

However, now it was Bryan's turn to laugh with delight. His sturdy legs only needed to run without power, but Jason was already lagging far behind.

Meanwhile, Angeline shook her head to see Jason's eyes filled with tears. She got up from her seat and walked into the house. Regarding Jason, Angeline entrusted everything to Bryan. The son and father should get closer by spending time together.

Angeline opened the refrigerator. At Bryan's house, there were apparently no cooking ingredients that could be processed. He himself had not had time to go shopping because he had been so busy lately. Angeline scratched her head absentmindedly and went back outside to her son and husband.

"Aren't you tired?" asked Angeline a little shouted, because the distance between her and Bryan and Jason was quite far.

The two men of different ages turned their heads and approached Angeline who was now waving. The ball that was originally a bone of contention just rolled on the green grass.

"I want to eat fried chicken!" Jason shook his fist in the air, a sign that he was very excited.

"Let's go to a restaurant instead." Bryan put his arm around his wife's waist intimately.

Angeline nodded and they went to a nearby restaurant to have lunch together. Today the trio's schedule was very relaxed. There were no work-related hassles. Angeline and Bryan had agreed to spend as much time as possible with Jason. Moreover, Bryan wanted to make up for the time that had passed.

Arriving at the nearest restaurant, Jason saw his favorite menu. The tiny hands asked Bryan to hold him.

"What do you want?" Bryan asked.

"Ice cream!" Jason replied excitedly.

Angeline, who was next to them and was choosing a menu, turned around. She shook her head at her son.

"No ice cream today, Jason," she said gently.

Jason looked sad. He really wanted to enjoy vanilla-flavored ice cream on this sunny day. But why did Angeline forbid it?

Jason's arms wrapped around Bryan's neck, he was making a move to ask for it. Jason was confident that his father would fulfill all his wishes, because he usually did.

"No, don't try to ask your father." Angeline folded her arms across her chest before Jason whispered to Bryan.

Meanwhile, Bryan frowned. The tail of his eyes went to Jason and looked at him. Then he laughed amusedly.

"Why don't you just give it to me? Jason seems to really want ice cream." Bryan tried to negotiate.

Angeline firmly shook her head. "No. Yesterday and yesterday again, Jason always eats ice cream. Not today. If he eats too much, his throat will hurt."

Ah, right. Bryan nodded and understood what Angeline meant.

"All right, Jason. We can get ice cream tomorrow afternoon. How about it?" Bryan lowered his only son from the carrier.

Jason seemed to object. With tears in his eyes, he shook his head and looked at Bryan instead.

It was unnerving, but Bryan knew that Angeline's prohibition had good reason to be obeyed. Clearly she knew what was best for their child.

"Come on, Jason. If this lunch runs out, I'll buy you your favorite toy. How about it?" Angeline tried to make an offer.

Unexpectedly, Jason immediately nodded. They sat down at the table by the window. Bryan now looked at his son and wife with a smile that never faded.

Their conversation was light but warm, with Jason occasionally asking to be fed by Bryan and Angelina.

Their laughter was cut short, however, when Jason suddenly coughed a few times. Angeline looked worried, but Bryan tried to stay calm.

"Is your throat sore?" asked Angeline. She handed him some warm water that the waitress had just delivered.

Jason just nodded. His voice had suddenly gone so he couldn't answer Angeline's question.

"Maybe I gave him a tough piece of chicken," Angeline complained, blaming herself.

Bryan looked up and shook his head. "No, I didn't. You did absolutely nothing wrong."

Angeline wiped her face because Jason's coughing hadn't stopped. As she reached for a tissue, Jason suddenly spit something out of his mouth.

Both Angeline and Bryan were immediately surprised because Jason's vomit was a red liquid. Meanwhile, Jason immediately cried loudly.

"Oh my God, Jason!" Angeline screeched even more uneasily. Immediately she took over Jason by lifting his body.

"We're going to the hospital now!" Bryan said firmly. He ran to the car first and opened the door.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the restaurant became more crowded. Everyone saw it and they were equally dumbfounded.

Chapter 2 Angeline's Premonition

Bryan and Angeline looked panicked, even though Jason had received swift treatment from the doctor and several nurses. Yes, how not to panic? They were happy with laughter, then suddenly Jason vomited blood.

Angeline's heart seemed to be forcibly taken from its place, making the woman pale over time. Meanwhile, Bryan was still standing with an equally anxious look.

They waited for the doctor who was examining Jason. The one hope that Bryan and Angeline held on to was that their only son would be okay.

"With Jason's parents?" asked Dr. Matthew.

Angeline and Bryan immediately nodded. Both looked briefly at Jason who seemed to have calmed down. Their son was asleep after crying all the way in the car.

"Can you come to my office for a moment?" Dr. Matthew directed the two parents of his patient out of the emergency area.

"Why don't you explain it here?" Angeline had her legs nailed together so she couldn't go anywhere.

It was strange that they had to follow the doctor, even though Angeline saw the other doctor talking to the patient's guardian in the emergency area.

Dr. Matthew turned around and just smiled. With a gesture, he asked Bryan to take Angeline to his office.

"Let's follow, dear. I'm sure there will be nothing alarming about Jason's condition," Bryan said, calming his wife.

The man's hand gently rubbed the top of Angeline's head. It was clear that his wife was now a little shaken and was starting to think about the unknown.

Bryan actually felt the same way, but he had to remain calm. Don't let yourself get carried away and end up not behaving well in this hospital, especially since the doctor again asked him and Angeline to enter a room.

Angeline was getting nervous. The all-white atmosphere around her seemed to be intimidating. Therefore, Angeline held Bryan's hand as they sat next to each other with Dr. Matthew in front of them.

"How long has Jason been vomiting blood like that?" asked Dr. Matthew as he opened the laptop on the table and seemed to be typing something.

Bryan looked at Angeline, because his wife would know better. Angeline had lived with Jason since the boy was a baby, while he had only been around recently.

"Before... Jason never vomited blood like that," Angeline replied without hesitation, but her voice sounded a little shaky.

Angeline's gut feeling told her something was wrong. She didn't want to be a know-it-all, but Dr. Matthew's look was more serious than ever.

"Does Jason get sick easily?" Dr. Matthew asked again.

Angeline half-consciously nodded. "Yes. Jason catches colds and fevers very easily. In a month's time, there will be times when Jason gets sick."

Next to Angeline, Bryan swallowed. About that, he had been told before. Angeline had told him everything about Jason, including how their son's health condition was not like other children.

Angeline was thrown when Jason was one year old. Her son also often experienced shortness of breath. At that time Angeline had made every effort to treat Jason and the results were satisfactory.

Symptoms of shortness of breath never appeared again. However, Jason's health condition has slowly declined since then.

"When I examined Jason, his breathing pattern was irregular," Dr. Matthew murmured.

Angeline looked up at the doctor. Her body felt even more rigid. Bryan, who was next to her, turned his head, realizing that his wife's tears were beginning to well up.

"Calm down. Jason is fine," Bryan said, trying to comfort Angeline.

"The pupils of his right and left eyes are not exactly the same size," added Dr. Matthew. He took off his glasses and showed her what he had been working on on the laptop screen.

"From all the physical symptoms, it looks like Jason will have to do further tests. I suspect that Mr. and Mrs.'s son has a serious illness," said Dr. Matthew.

The tears that Angeline had been holding back finally fell. She squeezed Bryan's hand that had been holding it.

"What do you mean, Doc? Jason never showed any symptoms that he was seriously ill!" Angeline argued unacceptably.

"Fever in close proximity is not to be underestimated, ma'am." Dr. Matthew looked at Angeline and Bryan in turn.

"We will do a follow-up examination. Therefore, I recommend that Jason be transferred to the inpatient ward," he added seriously.

Bryan immediately nodded. He thought they should take the right action to find out what Jason's illness was. He did not wait for Angeline's approval.

"Our son is not sick." Angeline cried, still wanting to deny everything Dr. Matthew had said.

"We have to accept the truth, dear. Jason is sick. If our son was fine, how could he have vomited blood like that." Bryan hugged his wife without hesitation.

"That's good thinking, sir. You can count on it," Dr. Matthew praised Bryan for his quick self-control.

"So what do you think, Doc? What illness does our son have?" asked Bryan, still not letting go of Angeline's hand.

"I suspect Jason has neuroblastoma." Dr. Matthew said seriously as he showed some symptoms from his online journal.

Angeline stared uncomprehendingly. Her brain, which was filled with all kinds of worries over Jason's condition, could not properly digest the medical language on the laptop screen. Suddenly, Angeline's head hurt a lot.

"This is one of the rare diseases." Then Dr. Matthew explained briefly.

The neuroblastoma that Dr. Matthew refers to is indeed one of the rare diseases that usually affects children under the age of five. The disease can be recognized by several physical symptoms such as lumps and so on.

Bryan listened intently, while Angeline stayed where she was with her body still. Guilt crept into her heart.

Did Jason get sick because of her? Why did she not do a further examination when she knew that Jason was often sick?

Angeline felt that she was a bad mother. The woman's life didn't seem to merge with her body, so Angeline didn't realize that she and Bryan had left Dr. Matthew's room.

"We will try everything. The doctor is also determined to cure Jason. Don't worry," Bryan murmured, trying to paint a smile when Angeline looked at him.

"I'm sorry. I was... a bad mother to our son. Really, I'm sorry." Angeline cried again, but this time more painfully than before.

Bryan did not blame her at all, which is why he hugged Angeline so tightly.

"It's not your fault at all. Motherhood is not easy, and you did your best. From now on, we have to be stronger for Jason's sake. Don't show any sadness in front of Jason," Bryan said as he wiped away the tears on Angeline's face.

Chapter 3 The Great Panic

It would be a lie if Bryan said he wasn't worried. Truly, he was currently under a tremendous panic attack. However, Bryan didn't show it in front of his son and wife.

Bryan just returned and slowly opened the door to Jason's hospital room. He had two paper bags in his hands. One contained food, while the other contained a change of clothes for Angeline.

Jason waved as he saw his father arrive. Bryan smiled bitterly. What a pity for his son, having to adapt to the IV tube stuck in his hand. Let him guess, it must be uncomfortable.

"Dad," Jason greeted.

The boy's eyes looked puffy. Jason was crying hysterically when the nurse inserted the IV needle. Pain and soreness, that's what Jason said over and over again.

Jason only calmed down after one of the nurses gave him a toy. The toy car is still in Jason's lap, while Angeline closes her eyes in a sitting position.

"Let Mommy rest," Bryan said in a low voice. He deliberately kept one finger to his lips to prevent Jason from making a scene.

Not only was Jason crying, but Angeline was still unable to control herself properly. Angeline lamented the fate of her poor son. A child as small as Jason had to struggle with a rare disease.

Just putting two paper bags on the table, Angelin woke up with a gasp. Her head turned to Jason and she immediately stood up straight, making the dizziness come back.

Angeline grimaced softly and Bryan saw it. "Sorry I was too loud," he said, handing his wife a glass of water.

"I woke up feeling uneasy," Angeline whispered, not wanting Jason to hear her.

Their son did not understand, but Angeline and Bryan had agreed not to discuss the rare disease in Jason's presence. Neither of them wanted their son to absorb sad information from his mother and father.

"Go to sleep, son." Angeline turned to Jason.

Jason yawned and nodded. It was already late and the clock on the hospital wall read seven. Angeline stayed by Jason's side until her son fell asleep peacefully.

"Doctor Matthew hasn't given us any more information." Bryan stared at his phone screen with a bitter smile.

This afternoon he had deliberately asked for Dr. Matthew's cell phone number. Bryan said he had a lot of statements to make, and Dr. Matthew didn't mind answering at all.

"While you were gone, two nurses said that tomorrow morning Jason will have some more tests." Angeline said this without a smile.

It felt like she would not be able to pull the corners of her lips together like before.

"Yes, I know that. Now don't think about it. You need to eat dinner," Bryan said, opening a paper bag and taking out a lunchbox from there.

Angeline was not at all interested in her favorite food. There was no appetite for dinner. Angeline just wanted to cry and reflect on today's events.

"Eat. Don't let yourself get sick. We both need to be strong for Jason." Bryan lifted the spoon and gave Angeline one bite.

Angeline finally opened her mouth. The cell phone in her hand lit up, a few notifications came in.

"We haven't told anyone about Jason," she murmured, looking at Bryan.

"Let me tell them. Don't think about anything." Bryan paints a smile, taking over the cell phone in Angeline's hand and setting it on the table.

After a bland dinner, Angeline decides to clean up, while Bryan says goodbye for a while. First, he had to call John and tell him how Jason was doing. Secondly, Bryan had to find an alternative treatment. His uneasiness required him to rack his brains.

That night, neither Bryan nor Angeline were able to fall asleep. They were awake and occasionally saw how Jason was sleeping on his bed.

It wasn't until morning that the two prepared to accompany Jason to a series of tests.

"I'm scared ...." Jason whined as he was taken to a room. There were already some doctors waiting.

"It's okay, sweetheart. All the doctors inside are very nice. They told Mommy that Jason will get a new toy if he dares to go in there. How's that?" Angeline did everything she could to get Jason to nod his head.

Meanwhile, Jason lay on a gurney pushed by three nurses.

"Ah, yes. Did I mention that Jason can have all-you-can-eat ice cream when he gets home?" Bryan stood in front of Jason, his smile printed so wide that the excitement rubbed off on his son.

"Right, Dad?"

Bryan nodded without hesitation. He had promised to take Jason and let him eat all the vanilla ice cream he could. Bryan would give Jason whatever he wanted.

Only then did Jason agree to go in without crying. He was accompanied by the nurses, while his parents waited anxiously outside.

How many hours they waited, neither Bryan nor Angeline could remember. What is certain is that they were called back into Dr. Matthew's room, just as Jason was coming out of the testing room.

Their only son looked fine. Even Jason could still smile and wave at his parents as they parted for a moment. Jason returned to the hospitalization room and his parents went up to the floor where Dr. Matthew's room was located.

"How's it going, Doc?" asked Bryan first, even though he had just walked in and sat in the same place as yesterday.

Dr. Matthew smiled slightly and handed over the documents from Jason's examination a few moments ago.

"My guess was correct about Mr. and Mrs.'s son having neuroblastoma cancer." Dr. Matthew could see that Angeline's eyes were losing their twinkle now.

"Everything... is clear, Doc?" Angeline did not deny like yesterday.

Dr. Matthew nodded. "Based on some examination results, Jason does have a rare cancer. More precisely, it has reached stage two," he explained later.

Stage two ....

Those two words kept ringing in Angeline and Bryan's heads. What did that mean? Obviously they knew it wasn't a good thing.

"Jason's condition looks fine from the outside, but intensive treatment is needed to prevent the cancer from spreading further."

"Let's just do the surgery!" said Angeline with her chest beating.

"Unfortunately we are hesitant to do that, ma'am. The cancer hasn't spread, but that doesn't mean it can be completely removed through surgery." Dr. Matthew explained.

"Seeing that the facilities in this hospital are not very complete, we have to say with a heavy heart that Jason should be transferred to another hospital. This is all for the sake of his recovery," Dr. Matthew added.

The world seemed to collapse on her head, making Angeline almost lose consciousness at that moment.
