The Secret Alpha King's Unexpected Contract Mate

Author: Xiao Youzi
Genre: Werewolf
My mother was dying in the ICU, needing a million-dollar surgery that had to be paid today. When I desperately begged my family for help, my stepfather and stepmother decided to sell me to a notoriously brutal Alpha as a "wedding gift" in exchange for the money. They brought him right into our living room. He looked at me like a piece of meat, his thugs blocking every exit. My stepmother dug her nails into my arm, hissing that if I dared to reject him, she would pull the plug on my mother's life support immediately. My stepsister just laughed, mocking my low Omega status and telling me I should be grateful to finally be of some use to this family. I was entirely trapped, suffocating under the cruelty of the people who were supposed to protect me. But they didn't know one crucial detail. They didn't know that during a blizzard the night before, I had accidentally saved the life of a heavily wounded man. And they definitely didn't know that this man was Kaelen Beaumont, the ruthless, legendary Alpha King of our entire pack. I touched the cold, black metal card he had left in my pocket, remembering his terrifying silver eyes and his impossible demand. I looked at my family's smug, greedy faces, and my heart turned to stone. I pulled out my phone and dialed the encrypted number. "I agree to your terms," I whispered. "I will be your Mate."

Chapter 1

ELARA HAYES POV:

The old wooden door of the Cedar Creek Lodge burst open with a violent crack.

A blast of icy wind and snow tore through the lobby, extinguishing the small warmth from the fireplace. It felt like a beast's dying breath, and I shot up from my stool behind the front desk.

My heart hammered against my ribs.

A tall, broad figure stumbled inside, his expensive black coat splattered with mud and something dark, something wet.

Blood.

He slammed the heavy door shut, one hand pressed tight against his stomach where the dark stain was spreading, seeping between his fingers. The scent of pine, cold air, and fresh blood filled the small space, thick and metallic.

My hand flew to my mouth to stifle a scream. My fingers trembled, hovering over the silent alarm button hidden beneath the counter.

Then he looked at me.

His eyes were a startling silver-gray, cold and sharp as shards of ice, filled with a warning that froze the scream in my throat.

Faint shouts and the crunch of boots on snow echoed from outside. They were searching for him.

His gaze flicked from my face to the rack of keys hanging on the wall behind me. The key to my small employee room.

Before I could process it, he was moving. He vaulted over the counter in a single, fluid motion that defied his injury. His sheer size blotted out the dim lobby lights, and his scent overwhelmed me-cedar, blood, and an aggressive, masculine power that made my knees weak.

His strong hand clamped around my wrist. A jolt, like lightning, shot up my arm.

"Your room. Where is it?" His voice was a low, guttural rasp, laced with an authority that vibrated through my bones.

It was the Alpha's Command.

In my pack, the Blackrock Pack, an Alpha's command was law to an Omega like me. Though I had no idea who this man was, the primal power in his voice bypassed all thought, leaving only instinctual submission. My legs threatened to give out.

Shaking, I could only point a trembling finger down the short, dark hallway.

He didn't wait for me to walk. He half-dragged, half-carried me, his body a furnace of heat and pain against mine. I could feel the unsteady rhythm of his breathing, the tremor of blood loss running through him.

He snatched the key, shoved it into the lock, and pushed me inside my own room. He followed, kicking the door shut and throwing the bolt.

The tiny space was instantly suffocating, filled with his presence, his scent, his danger.

Footsteps stopped right outside my door. I held my breath, my blood turning to ice.

"Anyone in there? Forest Patrol," a gruff voice called out. "We're hunting a dangerous intruder."

The man pulled me back against his chest, hard. My back hit his solid, searing-hot torso. One arm snaked around my waist, locking me in place. The other hand clamped over my mouth, muffling my panicked gasp.

His lips brushed against my ear, his breath hot on my skin. Goosebumps erupted across my arms.

"Pretend you're my mate," he whispered, the words a shocking command that detonated in my mind. "And we're... busy."

My brain went blank.

The knocking grew louder, more insistent. "Open up! Routine check!"

He shifted, his hand moving from my mouth to cup my jaw, forcing my head back. In the dim light filtering through the thin curtains, I saw his face for the first time. He was brutally handsome, with a faint scar cutting through one eyebrow.

His silver eyes held mine, a silent, menacing order. He let out a loud, deliberate groan, pressing his body more firmly against mine, pinning me to the door.

Terrified, I let out a small, trembling whimper. It sounded pathetic, but to the men outside, it must have sounded like the complaint of someone being pleasurably interrupted.

A curse from the hallway. "Sorry to bother you."

The footsteps retreated, fading into the howl of the wind.

Only when they were gone did he release me. My legs gave way, and I slid down the door to the floor, gasping for air.

He leaned against the opposite wall, the wound in his abdomen weeping fresh blood. He ignored it, his intense silver eyes studying me.

I thought he might kill me. Silence me.

Instead, he reached into his coat and pulled out a card. It was made of some kind of black metal, completely bare except for an ancient, stylized wolf emblem etched into its surface.

He pushed off the wall, crouched in front of me, and pressed the cold metal into my trembling hand.

"Thanks for tonight." His voice was still cold, but the raw command was gone.

"If you ever run into trouble you can't handle," he said, his voice dropping lower, "use it to contact me."

Before I could ask how, before I could even form a word, he was at the window. He slid it open, and with a grace that was terrifying, he was gone, swallowed by the blizzard.

I sat there on the floor, my hand clenched around the cold, black card. It seemed to hold the residual heat of his body.

My heart was still trying to beat its way out of my chest. Part of it was fear.

But another part, a strange, unfamiliar flutter deep inside me, was something else entirely. It was the first time I had ever been that close to an Alpha. His scent felt like it had been branded onto my soul.

I stumbled to the window. There was nothing but swirling snow. It was as if he had never been there at all.

I looked down at the card in my hand. The wolf emblem... I was sure I'd seen it before, in one of the old books.

It represented something ancient. Something supreme.

Chapter 2

ELARA HAYES POV:

I woke with a gasp, my fingers still clenched tight around the cold, black card. The storm had passed, and weak morning light filtered into my room, but the nightmare of the previous night felt more real than the sunrise.

I scrambled for my laptop, my hands shaking as I typed in a description of the wolf emblem.

The search results made the air leave my lungs in a painful rush.

It was the royal crest of the Blackrock Pack.

The sigil belonging to one wolf and one wolf only: the Alpha King, Kaelen Beaumont.

I couldn't believe it. The wounded, dangerous man from last night... he was the legendary ruler of our pack? The one they said was ruthless, cold, and never seen by common wolves like me?

A wave of dizziness and retroactive terror washed over me. I threw the card onto my small desk as if it were on fire, a hot coal of trouble I wanted nothing to do with. I would forget this. It never happened.

Then my phone rang, a shrill, ugly sound that shattered my resolve.

"Elara?" It was Dr. Evans from Central Hospital. "It's your mother. Her condition has taken a turn for the worse. She needs surgery, an emergency procedure. The cost is at least a million dollars. We need it paid today."

The world tilted on its axis. A million dollars. The number was so vast, so impossible, it didn't even sound real.

I threw on my clothes, ran from the lodge, and caught the first bus back to the city. I spent the entire ride calling everyone I knew, begging, pleading for any amount, but the few dollars I scraped together were like trying to fill the ocean with a teaspoon.

Finally, my fingers trembling, I called my stepfather, Arthur Hayes.

"A million?" he barked into the phone, his voice thick with annoyance. "Are you insane, Elara? Where am I supposed to get that kind of money for your dying mother?"

I heard a scuffle, and then my stepmother Brenda's sharp voice cut in. "Unless you're willing to marry Rick Tucker. He's willing to pay the price, as a... wedding gift."

I hung up, my entire body going cold. Rick Tucker was Arthur's business partner, a brutal Alpha known for his cruelty. Marrying him would be a death sentence.

When the bus reached the city, I ran to the hospital. Through the thick glass of the ICU, I saw my mother, Diana. She looked so small, so fragile, with a ventilator tube down her throat, her face as pale as the sheets.

Tears streamed down my face. She was the only person in the world who had ever truly loved me. I couldn't lose her.

Desperate, my hand brushed against the cold, hard rectangle in my pocket. The black card.

A wild, insane thought sparked in my mind. He was the Alpha King. A million dollars... to him, it was probably nothing.

I pulled out the card, my hands shaking. I had no idea how to "contact it." I closed my eyes, focusing all my energy, all my desperation, on the wolf emblem. I traced its sharp edges with my fingertip.

As an Omega, my spiritual energy was weak, but maybe a daughter's love was stronger.

The card in my hand suddenly grew warm.

The sudden heat was a shock, a flicker of impossible hope in the cold despair of the hospital corridor. Had it worked? I clutched the card, my breath catching in my throat as I leaned against the wall, waiting. But as the seconds stretched into minutes, that fragile hope began to drain away, leaving me feeling foolish and more desperate than before.

Less than ten minutes later, a man in an immaculate black suit approached me. "Miss Elara Hayes?"

I looked at him, wary.

"I am Mr. Morrison, assistant to Mr. Kaelen Beaumont. Mr. Beaumont would like to speak with you."

He handed me a sleek, encrypted phone. My hand trembled as I took it. A voice I would never forget, cold and dominant, came through the line.

"You need a million dollars?"

I clutched the phone, a choked sob escaping my lips. "Yes," I whispered, explaining everything about my mother.

The silence on the other end was terrifying. It stretched on, heavy with power.

Mr. Morrison's own phone buzzed. He answered, listened, and then nodded at me. "The hospital has been taken care of. The surgery will proceed immediately. All costs will be covered by Mr. Beaumont."

I staggered, a wave of dizzying relief washing over me. "Thank you," I cried into the phone. "Thank you so much! I'll pay you back, I swear!"

Kaelen's cold voice cut through my tears. "I don't need your money."

My stomach clenched. I knew there was no such thing as a free lunch in this world. "Then... what do you want?"

The voice on the other end of the line paused, the silence more menacing than any threat.

"I want you," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument. "To be my Mate."

My mind went white. The phone slipped from my grasp and clattered to the floor.

Mr. Morrison picked it up, bowing his head respectfully. "Miss Hayes, the Alpha King's meaning is that he wishes to proceed with a Mating Ceremony. He will give you time to consider, but he expects an answer soon."

Chapter 3

ELARA HAYES POV:

Mr. Morrison stood silently, his polite presence a crushing weight.

My Mate? The Alpha King's Mate? The idea was so absurd, so far beyond my reality, it felt like a cruel joke. I was a nobody, a low-ranking Omega. He was the ruler of our world.

I took a shaky breath, forcing the words out. "Please... I need to see my mother."

He nodded, and within minutes, it was arranged. Dressed in a sterile gown, I walked into the ICU. Seeing my mother, unconscious and frail, felt like a knife twisting in my gut. The doctor had said any more delays could have been fatal.

I held her cold, limp hand, my tears falling silently onto the crisp white sheets. For her, I would do anything.

Even sell myself.

My resolve hardened. I walked out of the ICU, my eyes clear. "I need to go home," I told Mr. Morrison. "I have to take care of some things. I'll give you an answer after that."

He simply inclined his head. "The car is waiting."

The house I returned to had never felt less like a home. As I walked in, my stepmother Brenda and stepsister Amber were on the sofa, their faces masks of smug satisfaction. My stepfather, Arthur, sat in his armchair, staring at the floor, refusing to meet my eyes.

"So, you came to your senses?" Brenda's voice was sharp, dripping with venom. "Good. Get yourself ready. Mr. Tucker will be here tonight to pick you up."

"That's right, sister," Amber chimed in, her tone a sickening mix of pity and jealousy. "Being Rick's mate is a blessing. He's an Alpha with his own business, not like..." She trailed off, gesturing vaguely at our shabby living room.

I ignored them, walking straight to Arthur. "Dad, Mom's surgery..."

He stubbed out his cigarette, his voice rising with agitation. "I told you, I don't have the money! There's no other way but Rick!"

Brenda stood up, looming over me. "Don't be ungrateful, Elara. A useless Omega like you should be thankful you can finally do something for this family. Your mother's life is in your hands."

Her words were poison darts. I looked at these people, my supposed family, and a wave of nausea and rage washed over me.

I held onto my anger, my voice cold and steady. "I'm not marrying Rick."

"You don't have a choice!" Brenda shrieked, lunging for me.

I stepped back, and at that exact moment, the doorbell rang.

Amber scurried to open it, revealing a stout, fleshy man with cruel eyes and a sneer permanently etched on his face. Rick.

His eyes raked over my body like a physical violation, greedy and possessive. "So this is my little bride? Looks tasty."

Brenda's face transformed, her features twisting into a fawning smile. "Mr. Tucker, you're here! Elara is just... shy."

Arthur practically bowed as he stood up, like a dog begging for a scrap.

Rick walked directly toward me, reaching his thick, rough hand out to touch my face. "Don't be scared, little thing. Stick with me, and you'll have everything you want."

I turned my head away in disgust.

His face darkened. "What, not giving me face?"

Brenda immediately grabbed my arm, her nails digging into my skin. "Don't you dare upset him," she hissed in my ear. "Or your mother will be thrown out of that hospital today!"

My body went rigid. I looked at Rick's leering smile, at my stepmother's vicious face, and felt the cliff edge crumbling beneath my feet.

I closed my eyes. My mother's pale face. Kaelen Beaumont's cold, silver eyes.

A choice between hell and the abyss.

But the abyss held the only hope for my mother-and if that was the price, I'd walk through fire, through ice, through whatever Kaelen or anyone else threw at me.

I opened my eyes. My heart didn't freeze-it forged into steel.

"Give me a moment," I said to Rick, my voice steady, clipped. "I need to get ready."

He and Brenda exchanged triumphant smiles. Arthur let out a sigh of relief.

Let them be happy. Let them think they'd won.

I didn't give them another glance. I walked to my small room, locked the door behind me, and stood straight against it.

And then the tears came.

Quiet, scalding tears, sliding silently down my cheeks and landing on my hands. I didn't wipe them away.

I didn't curl up or sob. I just stood there, letting them stream past my pressed lips.

I let them fall-each drop carrying away a piece of weakness, leaving something harder behind.
