Introduction

The world snapped back for Sarah Miller.

It wasn't a blessing.

It was June 14th, the day her life first shattered.

That day, her son, David, received his prestigious ROTC scholarship acceptance.

It was a golden ticket.

Then, it was brutally snatched away.

Her husband, Sergeant Mark Jenkins, the man she' d sacrificed everything for, didn't just have an affair with Brenda Lewis.

He openly diverted David's esteemed scholarship to Brenda's entitled son, Kevin.

Overnight, Sarah was painted as the "unhinged ex-wife."

Mark and Brenda flaunted their "perfect" new family, built on disgusting lies.

She remembered the public humiliation David endured.

She remembered his spirit dimming under relentless bullying.

She remembered the unspeakable note he left behind and the awful silence in his room before his suicide.

Consumed by grief and labeled a crazy scorned woman, Sarah herself faded into a blur of despair.

Her own tragic, unspoken end followed.

How could one man be so utterly devoid of conscience?

To destroy his own son for a new life?

The injustice burned.

The raw pain was still fresh.

Why would fate curse her with such a horrifying memory, only to offer it again?

Then, the shocking realization hit her.

She was back.

It was June 14th.

A second chance.

This time, she wouldn't be a victim.

This time, David would live.

This time, she would fight.

And no one on this earth would stand in her way.

Chapter 1

The world snapped back.

One moment, there was nothing, a cold, empty void.

The next, Sarah Miller gasped, eyes flying open.

She was in her old bedroom, the one in the small off-base house she and Mark had rented years ago.

Sunlight, weak and pale, filtered through the thin curtains.

The date on her phone screamed at her: June 14th.

The day the letter arrived. The day everything started to unravel.

Panic, cold and sharp, clawed at her throat.

Her son. David.

The memories flooded back, a tidal wave of grief and horror.

David' s scholarship, the prestigious ROTC one he' d worked so hard for, the one that was his ticket out, his dream.

Stolen.

Redirected by his own father, Sergeant Mark Jenkins, to Kevin Lewis.

Kevin, the sneering, entitled son of Brenda Lewis, the woman Mark had secretly built a new life with on Fort Apex.

Sarah remembered the public shame, Mark and Brenda painting her as unhinged, a scorned wife.

She remembered David' s face, hollowed by betrayal, the light dimming in his eyes.

The relentless bullying from Kevin, day after day.

Then, the awful silence from David' s room.

The note.

His death.

Suicide.

Sarah' s own spirit had shattered then.

Consumed by a grief so vast it blotted out the sun, falsely accused of disturbances, threatened with losing what little support she had.

She remembered a blur of despair, then a screech of tires, a blinding flash... and then nothing.

Until now.

She was back.

June 14th.

A second chance.

A raw, desperate hope surged through her.

This time, David would live.

This time, she would fight.

She scrambled out of bed, her mind racing.

The scholarship letter. It would arrive today. Mark would try to intercept it.

Not this time.

She had to get to David. She had to stop Mark.

Her heart hammered against her ribs, a drumbeat of fear and fierce determination.

This was not a dream. This was real.

She remembered the pain, the humiliation, the utter desolation.

It fueled her.

She would not be the broken, grieving woman who faded into oblivion.

She would be a mother fighting for her son.

For his future. For her dignity.

The betrayal was a fresh wound, stinging as if it had just happened.

Mark, her husband, the man she had supported through his military career, sacrificing her own ambitions to be a stay-at-home mom.

He had chosen another woman, another family, and thrown his own son away like trash.

The injustice of it burned.

David, her intelligent, sensitive boy, deserved so much better.

He would get it.

She would make sure of it.

Chapter 2

Sarah found David in his room, hunched over his desk, sketching.

He looked up, surprised. "Mom? You okay? You look pale."

She pulled him into a fierce hug. "David, we need to go. Now."

"Go where? What's wrong?"

"To Fort Apex. To see your father."

Confusion clouded his face. "Dad? Why?"

"The scholarship, David. He's trying to take it from you." The words came out harsh, urgent.

She didn't have time for disbelief. She saw the flicker of it in his eyes, the reluctance to believe his father capable of such a thing.

She remembered that look from her first life. It had cost them everything.

"Just trust me, honey. We have to go. Now."

The drive to Fort Apex was a blur of adrenaline and grim resolve.

She parked near the PX, her hands shaking.

She knew where Mark would be. He' d be with Brenda, playing happy family.

They walked towards the small park on base, a place families often gathered.

And there they were.

Mark, in his crisp uniform, laughing, his arm around Brenda Lewis.

Brenda, looking smug and self-satisfied, her son Kevin smirking beside her.

They looked like a picture-perfect family.

A family built on lies and theft.

Sarah' s breath hitched. The sight of them, so carefree, so blatant, ignited a fresh wave of fury.

"Mark!" Her voice was louder than she intended, sharp and clear.

He turned, his smile freezing when he saw her and David.

Brenda' s eyes narrowed. Kevin' s smirk widened.

"Sarah? What are you doing here?" Mark' s voice was tight, an edge of annoyance.

"We need to talk. About David's scholarship."

Mark' s face darkened. He stepped towards her, lowering his voice. "Not here, Sarah. Don't make a scene."

"A scene?" She laughed, a harsh, bitter sound. "You steal our son's future, and you're worried about a scene?"

Heads were turning. Soldiers, other military families, their eyes curious, then judgmental.

Brenda glided forward, her expression one of pained innocence.

"Mark, honey, who is this?" she asked, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "Is she bothering you?"

"It's nothing, Bren. Just a misunderstanding." Mark tried to wave Sarah away.

"A misunderstanding?" Sarah' s voice rose. "You call grand larceny a misunderstanding?"

Onlookers started to murmur.

"She seems hysterical," one woman whispered to another.

"Probably a crazy ex," her friend replied.

Brenda pressed a hand to her chest, looking faint. "Oh, dear. Mark, I feel a bit overwhelmed."

Mark shot Sarah a venomous look. "See what you're doing?"

Kevin, emboldened, stepped up to David. "What's wrong, crybaby? Mommy has to fight your battles?"

David, already pale and shaken, clenched his fists. "Shut up, Kevin."

"Make me," Kevin taunted, shoving David hard.

David stumbled back, then lunged.

The two boys went down in a tangle of limbs.

Mark roared, "David! Stop it!"

He pulled Kevin up, dusting him off solicitously, then turned on David, who was scrambling to his feet, a cut on his lip.

"What the hell is wrong with you, attacking Kevin like that?" Mark' s voice was cold, accusatory.

He didn't even look at David' s injury.

Sarah stepped between them. "He was defending himself! Kevin started it!"

Mark ignored her, his gaze fixed on David. "You're an embarrassment."

The words hung in the air, heavy and cruel.

David' s face crumpled.
