Introduction

It was my birthday, and my boyfriend Ethan, my rock for three years, promised something truly memorable.

He led me to a raging house party, then abandoned me as a group of leering men closed in.

I screamed for him, but he just watched, his face chillingly blank, before revealing our entire three-year relationship was a meticulously calculated lie – his twisted plan to make me pay for what his ex, Jessica, claimed my brother had done to her.

My humiliation was then meticulously documented and splashed across the internet for the world to witness.

I faced relentless cyberbullying, lost my job, and was hounded by Ethan' s goons who enforced his promise: to ensure I lived in constant fear, just as he' d intended.

The betrayal was crushing, stripping away my dignity and leaving me broken, tormented by the incomprehensible cruelty and my family's destroyed reputation.

Desperate to escape the unbearable shame, I walked to a bridge where we once dreamt of a future, ready to wash away all the pain.

But just as I fell, a panicked call from Ethan, followed by Jessica' s furious hospital room confession, revealed a deeper, more chilling lie – a lie I managed to capture, finally empowering me to expose the truth and fight back.

Chapter 1

Today was my birthday, and Ethan promised something special.

Three years together, he' d never been this secretive.

"Just wait, Sarah," he said, kissing my forehead this morning, "It' ll be memorable."

I trusted him, completely. Ethan was my rock, especially after everything with my brother, Michael.

He pulled up to a huge house I didn't recognize, music thumping so loud the car vibrated.

"A party?" I asked, a little surprised. This wasn't our usual style.

"The best kind," he grinned, but his eyes looked different, cold.

Inside, it was chaos. Bodies pressed tight, the air thick with sweat and cheap beer.

I clutched Ethan' s hand, "This is a bit much, isn't it?"

He just smiled, a thin, unfamiliar smile.

"Relax, enjoy your memorable birthday."

He led me deeper into the crowd, then his hand slipped from mine.

Suddenly, I was alone, pushed and jostled.

A group of guys, big and leering, started to close in.

"Well, look what we have here," one sneered, his breath hot and stale.

I looked around wildly for Ethan.

He was there, standing a few feet away, by a wall.

Watching.

Just watching.

His face was blank, unreadable.

"Ethan!" I called out, my voice trembling.

He didn' t move, didn' t react.

The men got closer, their words turning ugly, personal.

"Heard you like parties, pretty girl."

"Heard a lot about your family."

Panic clawed at my throat.

They backed me into a corner, their laughter harsh.

One reached out, grabbed my arm.

I flinched, yanking away. "Get off me!"

My eyes found Ethan again, pleading.

He met my gaze, and for a second, I thought I saw a flicker of something.

Then it was gone.

He just stood there, watching them torment me.

The first guy shoved me, hard. I stumbled back against the wall.

"Not so tough now, are you?"

Their faces were a blur of malice.

I felt small, trapped.

"Ethan, please!" I cried, the words choked.

He finally moved, but not towards me.

He spoke to the men, his voice calm, chilling.

"Alright, boys, that's enough for now."

They grumbled but stepped back a little.

Ethan walked over to me, his expression still cold, detached.

He looked down at me, huddled against the wall.

"Happy birthday, Sarah."

His voice was soft, but it cut deeper than their shouts.

"Why?" I whispered, tears starting to stream down my face. "Ethan, why are you doing this?"

He crouched down, his face close to mine.

"This," he said, his voice like ice, "is for Jessica."

Jessica. His ex-girlfriend. The name hit me like a punch.

"What does Jessica have to do with this?"

"Everything," he said, his eyes burning with a hate I' d never seen. "This is for what your brother did to her."

Chapter 2

"Jessica?" I repeated, confused, my mind reeling. "Michael didn't do anything to Jessica."

Ethan laughed, a short, bitter sound.

"Oh, he did plenty, Sarah. He destroyed her."

His words were like stones, heavy and brutal.

"He ruined her life. She lost everything because of him."

I shook my head, trying to clear the fog of fear and disbelief. "No, that's not true. Michael tried to help her. She was drunk, he..."

"He assaulted her," Ethan spat, his face contorted with rage. "Or as good as. Left her a wreck. She dropped out of university, Sarah. She still has nightmares."

My brother, Michael. Gentle, kind Michael, accused of something so vile. It was the old lie, the one that had already cost him so much.

"That' s a lie, Ethan! Jessica lied! Michael lost his scholarship, his future, because of her lies!"

"He got what he deserved," Ethan said, his voice flat. "And now, you get to feel a little of what Jessica felt."

He stood up, looking down at me with utter contempt.

"You know why I chose today, Sarah? Your special day?"

I just stared at him, a cold dread seeping into my bones.

"Because the night Michael destroyed Jessica, it was her birthday too."

The words hung in the air, suffocating me.

My birthday. Her birthday. This calculated cruelty.

"Ethan, no," I begged, my voice hoarse. "Please, don't do this. We love each other. Three years, Ethan..."

I reached for his hand, desperate for any sign of the man I knew, the man I loved.

He pulled his hand away as if my touch burned him.

"Love?" He sneered. "You think this was about love?"

He looked at me, and I saw nothing but a stranger. A cruel, calculating stranger.

"Every moment, every touch, every 'I love you' for the past three years, Sarah, was a lie."

My breath hitched. The world tilted.

"It was all for this. For Jessica. To make Michael pay, through you."

The pain was a physical thing, crushing my chest. My entire relationship, a carefully constructed revenge plot.

He gave a slight nod to the men who still lingered nearby, watching with predatory eyes.

"I told you it would be memorable."

They started moving towards me again.

Terror, sharp and absolute, flooded through me.

"No, Ethan, please!" I screamed.
