Chapter 1

Lyra's POV

"Nurse, please apply more pressure on the wound, we have less than thirty minutes to conclude on the surgery," the doctor said with a panic filled voice.

Since the time I started counting, this was the fifth time they have been applying pressure on the large wound in my stomach.

My head turned to the side. My blurry vision caught the time on the slowly ticking wall clock. It says 9;50pm which makes it exactly two hours since I got into an accident.

"Ma'am, are you awake? Can you hear me?" The doctor called out to me, leaving the wound compression to the nurses.

My body felt heavy, my head felt like it was being hit by a thousand stones. Regardless, I managed to give a nod.

"You need to get your guardian here as soon as possible. Here, who should we call?"

He brought out my phone and flung it to my face.

I weakly opened my mouth and muttered a single word, "husband."

"Ohh. Your husband?" I nodded.

The doctor operated the phone a few times, and a loud calling tone came up.

Grrr!! Grrr!! Grr!!! The phone rang a couple of times before an angry voice came up.

"Hey, what the fuck is this call for?"

Everywhere went silent. I didn't miss the look of shock, mixed with surprise that registered on everyone's face as the phone was on speaker.

"Hmmm, Hi Simon, can I speak with you for a minute?" I summoned the strength to speak.

He scoffed.

"You already wasted thirty seconds out of a minute, you have just thirty seconds left."

Without wasting time, I muttered weakly, " I got into an accident, I need the consent form for the surgery to be signed. Can you come over?"

Silence clouded everywhere but a loud thump could be heard, it was the fast beating of my heart. I was secretly praying he wouldn't give me one of his usual excuses.

"Get someone to do that for you, I am busy..."

It seemed like he was distracted for a moment, a tiny voice sounded slowly clouded his own, "can you peel me an apple?"

My hand slumped.

My head fell backward, hitting the metallic headboard. A sharp pain jotted through my entire body and settled in my heart. I felt my eyes roll to the back of my head and the last thing I remembered was a loud alarm from the nurses... I slumped.

***

I don't know how long I was unconscious for but I woke up feeling lighter and better, although there were aching pains all over my body. I was alone in the room but I could see the passing silhouette of the nurses from the transparent curtains. I let my body relax for a while before detaching all the wires and drips that were glued to my body.

The moment my feet touched the ground, I swayed. I felt a tight pull in my stomach stitch but I shook my head.

No! I mustn't stay here for a night. My husband will be pissed, Simon doesn't like when I stay late outside.

I was still in my hospital cloth when I found my way to the receptionist. It seemed like they were on evening break.

I could see the familiar faces of some nurses gathered at the reception, they were happily talking until a few of them sighted me, they looked surprised.

"Ma'am, when did you get up?" Two of the jotted up to assist me but I was quick to stop them.

"Not long along, Can I get my belongings?" I requested, my face a little pale from the stinging pain of the fresh wound.

"We need to examine you and administer your drug, can you come with us back to the ward?"

I didn't think twice before shaking my head, "No, No. I am good, we have a private doctor at home, I can't stay here another night."

They exchanged a long stare, followed by a shrug. One of them excused herself and returned with my bag and car key.

"Your car is ruined, you might not be able to drive it," I nodded unconsciously then passed them my card. They flashed it and just like that, I was discharged.

As I dragged my feet out, I heard the low gossips from the nurses. They emphasized on how wicked and nonchalant my husband was but I didn't get angry. There was just a sad smile on my face.

A smile of self mockery.

It's been four years.

Four years of tolerance, four years of coldness. Four years of holding on.

'It gets better with time,'I have managed to convince myself with this painful quote but I know better...

A loud horn brought me back to existence. My ride was here. I soullessly dragged my feet to the waiting car and we zoomed off.

Sound came from the radio system, "Mr Simon Sinclair, the CEO of Sinclair holdings was seen in a channel shop with his rumored girlfriend. The store was allegedly closed down for their private shopping moment..."

I couldn't bear to listen to everything before a lone tear dropped from my eyes. My condition is just so laughable.

While I was battling my life in the operation room, Simon was squandering money with his girlfriend in a channel shop.

We have been married for four freaking years, I have been playing the duty of an obedient wife while being hidden from the world.

Several times, he has appeared in public with his girlfriend and every time, it hurts more. I couldn't even share the same initials with him, talk more about appearing in public with him.

Am I not such a joke?

I teared up. My heart clenched tightly to my chest.

I hiccuped, followed by a slow tearing sound. My wound was slowly reopening.

My eyes clamped shut from the unbearable pain. I whimpered in silence till I got to our estate. The cab wasn't allowed in so I limped all the way to the house.

As soon as I stepped in, a flying cup met with my head. My vision immediately went blurry.

It took a while before I adjusted to it.

Standing in front of me was Mrs Elena, the housekeeper with a disdainful look on her face.

"So you went to fuck around for two nights," she said to me with disgust.

My lips hung low but no words formed in my mouth. For the first time in four years, I hit the realization.

I was nothing!!! Even a mere housekeeper has such a big audacity , what else?

Something crept into my head. Courage. Resentment. Anger. Everything mashed up into a thought.

I am going to get a divorce.

Chapter 2

Lyra's POV.

"You can't even give me a response? Does that mean you really went to sleep around? Sir Simon will be very pissed," Mrs Elena added without remorse.

This time around, something twisted in my chest. I am the young lady of the house. What right does she have to approach me? Even speak dirty to me.

Without thinking twice, I raised my hand up and lashed my palm across her face. She staggered backward, her waist almost hitting the hand rail.

"You...you...you dare hit me?" She stammered, pointing a shaky finger at me. Her eyes was clouded with shock

and disbelief .

"So what if I slapped you? That's just for correction. You might have been an old worker here, Simon might have allowed you to get away with being silly but I won't. I am the madam of this house?"

Her eyes turned red, her dilated pupils threw daggers at me.

"So what if you are the madam? You are going to be replaced soon, everyone knows that. You are just dwelling on an old stinky glory," she retorted sharply.

The pain I thought was gone returned, this time around in folds. I shut my eyes for a minute while trying to stabilize my breathing.

"A waste of beauty," she added, hissed and walked out of my front.

My leg gave way, my back hit the wall behind and I fell flat.

Tears rolled down my cheek.

My nose flared up with hanging mucus dripping down it. Maids passed by me. Some passed me a look of pity, others gossiped about me in a voice loud enough for me to hear.

There was no iota of respect. I was just an object of mockery for everyone. Even mere servants.

I cried till there were no tears in my eyes. When I was done, I forced myself to stand up and walked to my familiar gloomy room.

The room that looks nothing different from a pantry. Just a cold room with a plastered wall, a singular bed and windows. No bedside table. No walk-in closet. No dressing mirror. And for a husband as rich as Simon, it was nothing but a ridicule.

I put up all my little belongings and gathered them in a bag. I felt a wetness on my body. Upon glancing down, I realized that it was blood from my opened stitch.

My body felt very weak which I guess was due to loss of blood and lack of proper recovery from the recently concluded surgery. I flung my bag across my shoulder as I walked my way downstairs.

Beads of sweat had gathered on my forehead when I got down but I was quickly distracted by the body frame leaning against the handrail.

Before he turned around, I quickly hid my bag behind me. He gathered his jet black hair to the side and his distinct features came into view.

Pointed nose. Clear white skin. Soft pink lips. Long dark lashes that made me want to touch them. In the past, I had been swindled and willing to be used just to wake up to this beauty but now...

All I feel is tiredness. I just wanted to stay away from everything and everyone.

He turned around and our faces met. He maintained his usual stern expression but underneath it, there was disguised softness.

"Lyra, come over."

My legs betrayed me as they dragged forward in his direction. I stopped at some cms away from him.

"Follow me, Scarlet fainted after our shopping yesterday. Her condition has really declined, she needs your blood to be stabilized."

It was as if I was electrocuted at the spot. Was this a prank? He didn't even ask about my accident, not even about my surgery.

I was looking lean and pale yet that didn't matter to him. Rather he wanted me to donate blood for his beloved mistress.

Tears got caught up in my throat.

I am very miserable. A jinx Infact.

"Simon, you know I can't..."

He cut me off before I could finish saying anything, his thin eyes stared at me like I was some sort of dirt, "What is with the pretense? Do you think I am going to plead with you? Never!!! You owe scarlet your life. Didn't you convince my grandma to make you get married to me in her place? Her heart gave way because she couldn't take the news."

Unexpected ache shot through my entire muscle. My throat was clogged up with unshed tears. That hurtful line is what I hear almost every time even though it was a lie.

In the past, I would obediently follow behind him to donate blood for his mistress but now...

"I am sick, I really can't donate blood," I said in a shaky voice.

A message popped up on his phone and his face changed upon checking the content. He walked out briefly and returned with a medical team.

"There, take the blood from her."

I was shaken to the core. I might die if a pint is taken from me.

"Take two pints from her."

The doctor quickly interjected, "she looks very frail. I don't think she will survive it. Moreover, she looks like she is ill."

Simon's forehead formed a deep squeeze and he replied in a cold unemotional tone, "Who cares if she dies? At least Scarlet gets to live."

That statement made me stop struggling. I stood still till they drew out the needed blood quantity out of me.

As soon as I tried to take a step forward, my leg gave way. The doctor tried to revive me but Simon stopped them.

"Scarlet needs you guys more. Rush down to her, I will join you soon."

They rushed out, leaving me alone with the devil i call my husband.

"You should be grateful that I didn't divorce you..."

I opened my mouth weakly, "Let's get a divo..."

I was interrupted by the call on his phone. His facial relaxed when he saw the caller I.D. A subtle smile played on his lips.

"Hii...Okay baby... Alright... On my way."

He rushed out without allowing me to finish my sentence.

With the little strength left in me, I dialed 112. The loud siren sound was the last thing I remembered before giving in to darkness.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Lyra's POV

The blinding light from the morning ray woke me up the next morning. There was a doctor beside me, scribbling down some infos on his note.

My body felt tight, a little groan escaped my mouth which pulled the doctor's attention to me.

"Hello, how are you feeling?" He asked, softly feeling my forehead temperature with the back of his palm.

I smiled softly, "better."

A soft sigh of relief left his lips, then he said, "How did you manage to lose so much blood? Didn't you know your wound was infected? You were very close to getting the wound infected," as professional as he sounded, I still felt like a child being chastised.

I pressed my lips together.

"You need to get a family member here, we need someone to monitor your health."

Family? Sounds like a luxury. I have lost my parents long before I could remember. My uncle, Ethan has stepped up only for a few months and as soon as the properties left behind were gone, I was disposed of like trash.

Raina is the only person left for me as a family , she is my best friend and has been my only backbone since God knows when.

She picked up at a go, her loud yell almost blocked my eardrum. I briefed her about the recent events and she came around within minutes.

"That bastard!! I knew he was up to no good. No wonder he looks that ugly," she yelled as she stepped into my ward.

I chuckled, my eyes glued to her angry face. Truthfully, Raina has always disliked Simon but her calling him ugly sounded like a myth. He was far from being ugly.

"Can you tune down a little? I am having a headache," I replied in a calm tone.

Her shoulder slumped as she dropped her bag beside me. Her previously angry face softened as she took a seat beside me.

"See how pale you look. You are still gorgeous regardless. I don't know why you have been stuck with that bastard," She said, her voice shaking with emotion.

I just smiled and reached out for her hand.

"Dont worry, I am no longer smitten by his charm. I am now decisive."

Her face lit up with joy, her hand held mine firmly, "Are you serious? That's such good news. I almost thought he was your savior."

She wasn't far from the truth. Simon indeed was my savior but now? I have repaid all my debts. I have donated more than enough blood, I have slept in cold walls to repay my debt.

I had thought I was stupid for holding on for four years but now! I no longer blame myself. I am saved and I am never going back. Not to that slum!!

The next few weeks at the hospital were the most loved I have felt. Raina was always around to keep my company, she was either feeding me or gisting me.

During all that time, the world felt lighter, my mental health was back to 100, I felt bolder and more confident. Surprisingly, my thought never went to Simon, even though he never called once to check

up on me.

Today was one of the days Raina goes out for grocery shopping, she would usually get me enough fruits to last me till the next shopping.

I laid on the bed, staring coldly at my bag. I am thankful that it wasn't left behind when the ambulance picked me up. Just as I began reminiscing on the next thing to do, Raina barged in.

Her forehead was covered with sweat. It looked like she ran all the way here.

"Lyra, are you fine?"

I was confused. Of course I am fine, why the sudden question?

A commotion sound came from the garden which was just below my window. I got intrigued and stared down.

Below me was Scarlett and Simon, it looked like she had come to ring the bell. She was free from whatever silly ailment was wrong with her.

Contrary to Raina's expectation, I wasn't moved. My heart was empty. It was just...disgusting to watch them make noise and disturb other patients.

"Your husband is such a bastard, I feel like beating him to pulp."

I bursted into long laughter.

"Dont worry, he isn't worth it. Reserve your energy."

My eyes went to a corner of my bag, it caught my old purse. That purse_

I rummaged through it and came across some of my old documents. Most importantly, the card I was given at the last designer's competition I had participated in and won.

This!! I have forgotten to check the amount, maybe I could do something with it. I blew the little dust around it away before checking the amount on it.

I was blown away, my feet staggered backward. I almost lost consciousness.

"How...how come ?"

There were not four...five or... six zeros. It was eight fucking zeros in pounds.

My breathing almost stopped. This brought back memories...

My mother used to be an excellent jeweler, she designed great jewelries and was very very popular. Although, she hid the fact that she was a mother away from the public. I was her only child and she wanted me to live properly like a kid I was.

All her skills were passed on to me. I was even better than her in designing but only my family and her assistant knew this.

After my mothers death, her assistant wanted me to

Continue with her brand but I was scared, what if my mother's death was associated with her special designing skill? I let go of the opportunity.

One day, her old assistant, Mr Barry desperately pleaded with me to join the international designer competitions as I was skilled in fashion designing as well. I was hesitant but still took on the opportunity.

Surprisingly, I won. With a hidden identity.

Everyone wanted to know who the genius behind the mystical design was but I didn't dare show face.

The day I gathered enough courage to take over my mother's foregone brand was the day Simon's grandma pleaded with me to marry him.

Just like that, I let go of my dream. I let go of all my identity just to be with him.

Now, I am not going to bow to anyone. With this much money, I will build a big brand. Design outstanding products and showcase them to the world.

I will remind them of who Sandra, my mother was and how her only product will outshine her.

I will rebrand and shake the designing world. But before then, let's get my initial back to 'Miss'. I need to finalize my divorce with the scumbag I call a husband.
