Chapter 1
Cecilia's POV
"Mom, tell me where and when?" I asked, trying to hide the tremor in my voice.
"I'm sorry, darling. We don't want to see you hurting again because of him," Mom said softly, holding my hand.
"Mom, we have no choice. I have to talk to him," I replied firmly, not wanting to show my emotions.
Mom hugged me tightly. "The meeting place will be at your favorite cafe, tonight," she whispered.
After she embraced me, I said my goodbyes and went to my office. I took off my coat, grabbed my bag, and left.
This is it. I've decided to see him again after seven years.
I took a deep breath as I arrived at the cafe. I steeled myself before entering, but a waiter blocked my way.
"Excuse me, ma'am, our cafe is fully booked. We can't entertain any more customers," he said respectfully.
I furrowed my brow.
The cafe was empty, yet fully booked?
"I am Cecilia Abecia. I'm here to meet Mr. Nolan Vasquez."
The waiter's expression immediately changed. He smiled widely and ushered me inside. "Oh, welcome, madam. We've been expecting you. This way, please."
I tightened my grip on my bag before following the waiter.
The cafe is so pretty, with soft lights and flowers everywhere. The walls have cute paintings, and the chairs are comfy. It feels warm and welcoming.
As I walked, I couldn't help but wonder why the cafe looked so different today. It's my favorite cafe, but it's decorated romantically, which seems odd for a business meeting.
Yes, it's decorated romantically.
The waiter led me to a table beautifully adorned with soft candlelight, delicate flowers, and an elegant tablecloth.
I stood there, waiting, but Nolan wasn't here yet. Doubts began to creep in as my mind raced with thoughts about what might happen next.
"You've come earlier than expected," a calm, indifferent voice said behind me.
It felt like my heart stopped beating for a second.
That voice. The last time I heard it was seven years ago.
For a moment, I was unsure of what to do. Should I confront him or not? What changes have occurred in him? I felt unprepared to see him again after seven years, but...
I took a deep breath.
I have to do this.
After steadying my emotions, I turned to face the voice. It felt like time slowed as I faced him.
His face was still as striking as before, with chiseled features and a confident smile. His eyes held a glint of mischief, adding charm to his expression. He seemed relaxed, yet there was a familiar playful sparkle in his eyes.
He was a handsome man whom I hadn't seen in seven years. He was my husband who once loved me dearly but then forced me to sign the divorce papers, shattering my heart into pieces.
"Here's for the lovely lady who caught my eye in this world," he said, presenting a bouquet of roses.
I stared at him, searching for the familiar eyes I once knew. But I was disappointed as the eyes looking at me now were the same ones that had separated from me seven years ago.
I clenched my fists.
"I want to remind you, Mr. Vasquez, that I'm here for business purposes," I stated firmly.
He smirked. "If I were you, I'd accept the flowers." There was a hint of threat in his tone.
I glared back at him. I bit my lip, determined not to let him see how affected I was by his actions.
With trembling hands, I accepted the flowers, maintaining a neutral expression.
"Can we begin now?"
He smiled and walked past me, pulling out a chair and gesturing for me to sit. As I took my seat, he sat across from me, and the food began to be served on the table.
"I'd like to discuss why you're targeting our hospital for a downfall," I inquired professionally, wanting to address the pressing issue immediately.
He grinned before sipping his coffee.
"Let's have our coffee first, shall we? And let's talk about something else. How's your life, Cecilia?"
I averted my gaze. With the cafe's romantic decor, it was clear that our conversation would not be strictly business. But I couldn't help feeling a mix of fear and irritation.
"Mr. Vasquez, the matter concerning the hospital is crucial. It needs to be addressed." I said, meeting his deep eyes.
He leaned back in his chair, a sly smile playing on his lips. "Cecilia, let's not dwell on work matters. Tell me, how have you been all these years?"
I felt my blood boil at his words.
"Let's not dwell on work matters, you say? Excuse me, Mr. Vasquez, what you're talking about is not just any hospital but my parents' blood, sweat, and tears invested in it. I'm not in the mood to discuss my personal life. My focus is on the hospital, and it needs to be addressed urgently." I said, emphasizing each word.
He stared at me for a moment before chuckling softly. "I don't plan to bring down your hospital, Madam Cecilia. That was merely to grab your attention. Now that I have it, I want to make one thing clear."
My heart began to race.
I clutched my skirt, trying to steady my nerves. "What is it?"
He grinned. "Can you promise that you will do it?"
I felt my heart pound loudly. I bit my lip, afraid of what this man might ask.
"But anyway, it's just useless since I'm sure you'll agree. Because I can make it happen," he said confidently.
The playful smile slowly faded from his lips, replaced by a serious expression that matched the pounding in my chest.
I had a terrible feeling about what he was about to say.
"Marry me again, Cecilia."
A single sentence that took my breath away. I couldn't believe this was happening. I hoped it was just a bad dream.
While on my way to the hospital, I couldn't help but think about the conversation Nolan and I had yesterday.
After he made his request, I immediately stood up. "This is absurd, Mr. Vasquez. If you're bored, please don't target our hospital. You can look elsewhere, but not at ours. We don't cater to bored billionaires; we save people's lives."
After I said that, I turned and began to walk away, but I was stopped by what he said.
"Does it mean you're rejecting my marriage proposal?" he asked languidly.
I gritted my teeth in annoyance.
I heard his footsteps approaching me. With every step he took, my anxiety grew.
He stopped right in front of me.
"You can come to my place if you change your mind, you know," he said softly, though a mischievous glint danced in his eyes.
He slowly touched my cheek, gently caressing it. "Dear, Cecilia..."
I gazed at him, hoping to find answers to my questions in his eyes, but I saw no response. His eyes had changed from loving to those of a stranger.
Disappointment. That's what I felt.
I violently removed his hand from my cheek and left the place. But before I could leave, he said, "You will come... surely."
I sighed.
I got out of my car when I arrived at the hospital. No agreement was reached between Nolan and me last night. I would find another way to make him stop playing games with the hospital.
"Good morning, Doc Cecilia," greeted a nurse.
"Good morning."
As I entered my office, I rolled my eyes at what greeted me.
"Kara, didn't I tell you not to accept gifts from Travis?" I asked.
I put down my bag and put on my coat. Kara entered my office.
"Yes, Doc Cecilia. But this isn't from Sir Travis. It's from a very handsome man I've seen in my life. He didn't say his name, but he said he's your fiancé," Kara said happily.
I froze.
"There seems to be a note, Doc."
There were many boxes of gifts on my table. And I was pretty sure who they were from. I saw a small note that said, "I can't wait tonight - V, N."
Vasquez, Nolan.
I stared for a moment. Tonight, something unpleasant would happen.
"Kara, just give these away to your family," I instructed.
Kara's eyes widened. "Are you serious?"
I didn't answer her as I immediately left the office. As I was walking, a nurse approached me.
"Good morning, Dr. Abecia. There's an urgent meeting in the conference room."
I nodded.
Here it is. I knew this would happen.
As I entered the boardroom, I found key stakeholders already assembled, their expressions a mix of concern and determination.
As soon as I sat down, my mom began to speak. "We are facing a critical financial setback with the withdrawal of Mr. Chu, a major shareholder. This is a big risk for our hospital's future."
Ms. Lee, the Chief Medical Officer, shared her worries, "The loss of this shareholder's investment will impact our cash flow and capital reserves. We need to act quickly to address this issue."
With the CEO, my father, unable to attend the meeting, my mother took charge.
The room fell silent upon hearing the problem.
"We should try to find potential investors or partners to inject capital into the hospital," I suggested.
They all looked at me. "Dr. Abecia, where could we find an investor during this urgent period? We need it promptly."
I thought about possible investors for the hospital. "I have someone in mind," I said confidently.
They raised their eyebrows. "Are you sure this person will be willing to invest in such a critical situation?"
I met their gaze steadily. "We have no other choice. Trust me on this."
They nodded.
"As of now, we can save money by cutting costs, generating more revenue, and talking to our suppliers to improve our financial situation. It's important that we act fast to get through this tough time."
After the meeting, I returned to my office, but when I opened the door, I was greeted by the back of a man.
He turned around when he heard the door open.
"Hey, babe."
Sitting inside was a handsome man with a friendly smile. His eyes sparkled with kindness, and his gentle demeanor made everyone around him feel at ease. He had a welcoming presence that exuded charm and approachability.
"Travis, as far as I remember, today's not your consultation schedule," I said as I sat across from him, slightly surprised by his unexpected presence in my office.
Travis leaned back in his chair, a playful glint in his eyes as he responded, "I couldn't resist the chance to see you, even if it's not an official appointment."
"Travis, you know I've mentioned before that I'm not thinking about dating right now, and stop calling me 'babe,'" I said seriously.
He chuckled. "Soon, I can call you 'babe' forever."
I tried to ignore what he said.
"But thank you for coming. I actually have something to talk to you about," I said.
The potential investor I was referring to was the man sitting in front of me now, Travis.

Chapter 2
"What are we going to talk about? Are you ready to be my girlfriend?" Travis asked.
I raised an eyebrow and rolled my eyes. "I've never thought of that."
He chuckled softly, his eyes showing amusement. "So, what is it then? What does the great Dr. Cecilia want to discuss with me?"
"Let's go somewhere else to talk," I suggested.
It would be awkward to discuss his investment in our hospital here in my office. He's here as my patient today.
"No, I prefer here. Now, let's talk about it," he insisted, his tone firm yet gentle.
I took a deep breath.
"I've been thinking about how your support could make a significant difference to our hospital," I started. Travis's expression turned serious upon hearing my words.
"Our hospital has been serving the community for years, providing quality healthcare to those in need. With your investment, we can expand our services, improve patient care, and make a real difference in the lives of many."
"I see the value in supporting healthcare services, but why should I invest in this particular hospital?" he asked, his playful smile returning.
"Our hospital is dedicated to innovation and excellence in patient care. By investing, you're not just supporting a facility; you're investing in the well-being of our community. Your contribution can help us enhance our facilities, introduce new technologies, and ultimately save lives."
Travis nodded thoughtfully.
"Moreover, investing in healthcare is not just about financial returns; it's about making a meaningful impact on people's lives. Your support can help us reach more patients, improve healthcare outcomes, and build a healthier community together."
"I appreciate your passion and vision for the hospital," Travis said.
"Thank you for saying that."
He raised his hand to his chin, as if thinking. "I'll agree to invest, but I have one condition," he said.
I took a deep breath. "What is it?"
A mischievous smile spread across his face.
"Marry me, Cecilia."
As we were greeted by the waiter upon entering the restaurant, we were escorted to a table. "What are your orders, ma'am, sir?" the waiter asked.
"What's your order, babe?" Travis asked with a smile.
"I'm not picky with food, so you can order anything you want," I said, letting him decide what we'd eat. The waiter nodded and left.
We were at a restaurant for a date. After our conversation earlier, we decided to go out.
"Marry me, Cecilia."
"Sorry? What did you say again?" I asked, though I clearly heard him say "Marry me."
"Just kidding, babe," he said, laughing.
"I know you'd kick me out if I insisted on that condition," he added, still laughing.
I let out a sigh of relief.
I thought he was serious about his marriage proposal. If he were, I wouldn't speak to him again.
"So, what's your real condition?" I asked.
He stopped laughing and looked at me. "Be my girlfriend."
I raised an eyebrow. I wanted to complain, but I was the one offering him an investment in our hospital. I didn't like this condition.
"For just a day," he said.
I thought about it. Being his girlfriend for a day? That's better than marrying him or, worse, being pressured by the first man who proposed, Nolan.
"I'm not really comfortable with this," I started.
"For half a day?"
I guess this is better than submitting to Mr. Vasquez. Although I don't like it, I have to do this. I'll consider it a sacrifice for the hospital.
"Four hours?" I looked at Travis.
"This is very unprofessional of you, Travis. Do you know that?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. He just smiled and leaned back in his chair.
"I can have everything, babe. But you are different, so I'm taking this little opportunity."
Such audacity. I don't have much of a choice. We both have interests at stake.
"Okay, I agree."
So here we are at the restaurant, starting the clock on our relationship.
Travis leaned in, his eyes filled with curiosity. "Tell me, baby, what do you do for fun outside of work and hospital responsibilities?"
I almost choked at the way he addressed me. I could tolerate "babe," but "baby"? Still, I didn't let Travis see my discomfort. I needed to stick to our agreement.
"Well, I don't have one," I answered simply.
I couldn't think of anything I do outside of work. "Do you dance?"
I frowned. "Dance? The last time I remember dancing was at my college prom."
"You attended a dance class?"
I stopped.
I didn't attend dance classes because, well, I wasn't allowed to leave the house. Nolan wouldn't even hire a dance tutor because touching the opposite gender was prohibited. So Nolan taught me himself, despite his lack of time.
It's true; when I was in college, Nolan took a liking to me and kept me locked in his mansion. Crazy, right?
"Let's go to a waltz dancing class after this meal? I actually wanted to try this with you. Deal?"
Before I could answer, I saw a man enter the restaurant. My heart raced as his gaze landed on me, icy cold.
Nolan Vasquez. Why is he here?
I averted my gaze from him. I couldn't help but shiver with fear and irritation. Years had passed, but I still got frustrated with myself because it felt like I had reverted to how I was when we first met-the cold Nolan I feared and now, the one I found annoying.
I shouldn't be afraid. I can fight this time, unlike before when I was so weak.
I saw him sit at the table right next to ours, behind Travis.
"Hey, are you alright?" Travis asked, looking concerned.
"I'm alright," I replied simply.
"So, are we going to the waltz dancing class after this meal?" he asked again.
I nodded. "Sure."
Our order arrived, and we started eating. Travis talked about his adventures, like climbing Mount Everest. Since he couldn't handle it, he said he took his private chopper.
He continued talking, but I couldn't focus because of the way Nolan was staring at me from behind Travis. He hardly looked away, even when our gazes met.
Travis noticed my discomfort, so we planned to head to the dance class.
I finally felt some relief.
When we entered the room where the class was to be held, we were greeted by a spacious room with only a few people, each with their own partner.
We waited for the class to start while Travis chatted with me. I listened and occasionally shared my own stories.
Suddenly, someone called Travis, so he left. At the same time, a man entered the room.
My grip on my skirt tightened.
It was Nolan again.
"Alright, let's get started!" announced the dance instructor.
Everyone stood up with their partners, but Travis hadn't arrived yet, so I remained seated. The dance instructor approached me.
"Darling, is there a problem?" she asked with a smile.
I stood up. "My partner isn't here yet."
"That's okay. There are also some without partners here. You can partner up with them for now." As she finished speaking, Nolan approached me.
I was about to say no, but the instructor left us, and the steps were being explained.
"May I have this dance, my dear lovely fiancée?" Nolan asked with a charming smile, extending his hand.
"I don't remember agreeing to your marriage proposal, Mr. Vasquez," I said, rolling my eyes.
"Don't joke around, my beloved. I know you will definitely agree with my marriage proposal," he said with a playful smile, confidence evident in his tone.
The music started, and everyone began to dance.
"You can dance alone. I'm waiting for my partner," I said, crossing my arms.
"I'm afraid he won't be able to dance with you." I stopped at his words. Maybe he had done something bad to Travis again.
Before I could scold him, the dance instructor called us. "You two in the back, if you don't want to learn, you can leave so you don't disturb others."
I gave the instructor an apologetic look and said sorry. I was about to leave to wait for Travis outside, but I was surprised when Nolan pulled me.
I gasped at his sudden pull. I found myself in his arms. When I looked up, his smiling face greeted me.
Slowly, he began to move, his steps careful and elegant. His hands wrapped around me, holding me tightly in a warm embrace as we swayed to the music.
At that moment, I stared into his eyes. Nolan was undeniably handsome, a face I couldn't forget. His strong features, striking eyes, and confident demeanor made him stand out in the crowd.
But suddenly, I felt a wave of sadness. The memories I had tried to forget for seven years seemed to resurface. My emotions felt heavy, making it hard to breathe.
I turned away and removed his hands from my waist, then exited the room. I didn't want to stay with Nolan any longer because I felt I might do something inappropriate.
"Hey..." I stopped as someone pulled my hand.
Turning around, I saw Nolan's puzzled face. "Where are you going? The dance hasn't finished yet."
"Shut up, Nolan," I said, my voice trembling.
I removed his hand and started walking away, but I could still hear his footsteps approaching me.
He grabbed my hand again and turned me to face him, this time holding my elbows.
"Tell me. What's wrong?" he asked in a serious tone.
I stared at him, biting my lip. I wanted to shout and slap him in response to his question, but I held myself back.
"Just... let go, Nolan," I said, frustrated.
He was about to speak again when we heard a familiar voice. "What's going on here?"
We both looked at Travis, who had just arrived. I forcibly removed Nolan's hands from my elbows.
"Are you alright?" Travis asked, concerned, approaching me. He held my shoulder and then turned his attention to Nolan.
"Can you explain what's going on here? What's your relationship with my girlfriend?" he asked Nolan.
I saw Nolan smirk. I felt my heart race, fearing that what he was about to say might be bad.
"Your girlfriend is my fiancée," Nolan said, hands in his pockets.

Chapter 3
I couldn't help but feel irritated when I remembered what happened earlier in the dance class. I took a deep breath, trying to forget what happened, but I was still worried.
Travis had already dropped me off at my house since it was late and our arrangement was over. But I couldn't settle down; I felt like something unpleasant was going to happen.
Suddenly, my phone vibrated.
"Hello?"
On the other end of the line, I heard Andrea's voice. [Cil.. you need to come to the hospital.]
I hurried to the hospital. When I arrived, Andrea took me to a room where I saw my mom sitting on a hospital bed, staring out the window.
I sighed with relief when I saw she was in good condition.
"Mom... What happened?" I approached her and sat on the bed.
She turned her gaze towards me. "I just felt a bit dizzy, Cecilia," she said weakly.
I exhaled deeply. "How about Dad?" I asked.
"Your father is fine, Cecilia..."
I moved closer and hugged her tightly. "Everything will be alright, Mom."
I couldn't help but be angry. I felt responsible for all this. The hospital that my parents worked hard for might be lost because of that man who's done nothing with his life except play games with mine. But at least, I can still fight back.
She pulled away from the hug and held my shoulders. "No, Cecilia. I know this hospital might eventually fall. I just didn't expect it to happen so soon."
I furrowed my brow.
"What are you talking about, Mom? I found an investor. What else is the problem?" I asked.
Mom just smiled, but sadness was evident in her eyes.
"Is it Travis Harrington you're referring to? Haven't you read the article? They had trouble in their company a few hours ago."
I clenched my fist. Nolan was really testing me.
My mom smiled at me, though sadness lingered. "The hospital is being sued, and it may have to shut down."
"What happened?" My heart raced upon hearing this. Is this another new problem?
Mom looked at me with a mix of exhaustion and worry. Taking a deep breath, she explained, "It's a complicated situation. The lawsuit has put a lot of pressure on the hospital, and the future looks uncertain."
I held her hand. "Also, dear, I found some papers suggesting that Chrolex Corporation is really involved."
I bit my lip.
Even though there's no paper evidence linking them to what's happening at the hospital, I know it because he admitted it himself yesterday.
"I don't want to pressure you about your relationship with Mr. Nolan Vasquez, but, Cecilia..."
That Nolan is infuriating. I will never allow him to do this to the hospital my parents worked so hard for.
"Don't worry, Mom. We'll get through this together. I'm here for you, no matter what."
Mom just smiled at me, but her eyes couldn't hide the sadness. "Given the current situation, I assume your meeting with Mr. Vasquez didn't go well?" Mom asked.
I looked away and gave a bitter smile.
I didn't realize how determined Nolan Vasquez is. I forgot how determined he is to achieve his goals no matter what. But I just don't like feeling frustrated and powerless around him.
"What did you both discuss?" Mom asked. She held my shoulders and turned me to face her.
"Cecilia..."
I smiled at my mom.
"Mom, I promise everything will be fine. I've got this," I assured her.
Mom's face showed even more worry.
"I'm okay with losing the hospital, but I can't bear losing you, my dear. We almost lost you seven years ago; don't forget that."
I forced a soft laugh. "Mom, what are you saying? I can take care of myself. I'm already twenty-six. I'm not a child. Besides, I won't let myself get lost again."
I hugged her.
I am the reason for this chaos. So I will be the one to end it. I hate to admit it, but I guess there's nothing I can do.
"But I have a request, Mom." I pulled away from the hug.
"What are you planning?" she asked, worried.
I took a deep breath.
"Trust me, Mom. I have a plan."
My plan starts tonight. Nolan Vasquez, I'll make sure you regret bringing me back into your life.
At midnight, dressed in a black leather jacket, with my hair tied back in a ponytail and wearing a face mask and cap, I got into my car.
Just yesterday, he proposed marriage once more, and I initially thought I could handle the situation without giving in to his demands. However, I reached my breaking point. He had pushed us to the edge of ruin.
I couldn't remain passive any longer; I had underestimated him. I knew he would persist until he achieved his goal.
He was truly capable of destroying a prestigious hospital like ours in a matter of seconds.
After a few hours of driving, I stopped in front of a familiar large gate.
I got out of my car and approached the gate. I heard a small side door open, and a guard appeared.
"Miss, I kindly advise against parking your car here," he said politely. I removed my face mask as I faced him.
His eyes widened when he recognized me. "I'm Cecilia Abecia."
"I ask for your forgiveness, Madam," he said, bowing.
He made a phone call, and soon the gate opened. Without hesitation, I stepped inside.
Once inside, I drove for a few more minutes before arriving at the mansion.
The mansion was situated in the middle of the mountain. Upon arrival, you are greeted by a tall and large gate. After entering the gate, you drive for several more minutes before reaching the mansion.
There were even wolves roaming around inside. It was truly dangerous for anyone unfamiliar with the place, especially the wolves.
Truly, he is not an ordinary man.
When the car halted, I got out and surveyed the area. Removing my cap, a cool breeze tousled my black hair, turning it into playful curls.
A group of approximately twelve guards stood in a line, forming a path, and courteously bowed as I walked past.
This situation was familiar. It had happened to me many times in the past, seven years ago. But I couldn't just appreciate it.
The maids stationed at the majestic entrance swung open the doors as I entered.
As I expected, he was here, waiting for me.
He sat casually on the sofa, his left hand resting on the back, emitting an air of relaxation and arrogance. At that moment, our eyes met. I seemed to stop breathing.
His presence carried a majestic aura, as if he were naturally meant to be the ruler of the world. With a demeanor of coldness, arrogance, and a hint of wickedness in his features, he resembled a figure from a fine painting.
But I forced myself to ignore it. This man had left me seven years ago.
"You're here," a deep, strong voice echoed, sending a shiver down my back.
Raising an eyebrow in a distant way, he said, "Come closer."
I moved closer, feeling a heavy sense of pressure. Even though my legs were shaking, I kept walking.
Sitting on the sofa, his eyes felt like a wide trap, ready to capture me.
It was as if I had returned to the past. When I first met him, I couldn't help but be terrified. Whenever I was alone with him, a strong sense of fear would wash over me.
I stood right in front of him, feeling his cold stare and demeanor making my heart race. Despite the fear, I tried to hide any sign that he was affecting me.
"Tsk." Before I could react, he took my hand and pulled me onto his lap.
Sitting there, I could feel the strength in his thighs and the warmth of his muscles beneath his pants. His arm wrapped around my waist in a way that felt uncomfortably close.
"I've been waiting for you, my dear fiancée," he whispered softly. I rolled my eyes, meeting his intense gaze.
"Does your family allow polygamy?" I braved myself to ask.
He stared at me for a moment. Slowly, he lifted his hand and cupped my face. I couldn't help but shiver. He used to do this to me all the time.
"Even if it's allowed, I'll only settle for one woman who has captured my heart, and that's you, my dear beloved Cecilia," he said tenderly.
I wanted to believe that his memories had returned, but I knew they hadn't. I didn't see it in his eyes.
"Merlin, give me the papers," he ordered his assistant. I was puzzled, but when the papers were in his hands, he handed them to me.
When I took them, I wasn't sure how I should feel. It was a divorce paper signed by Nolan Vasquez and Natalia Basilio.
I remembered Natalia. Nolan had been interested in her after he lost his memory, and when we separated, he immediately married her.
I tightened my grip on their divorce papers.
Whether they were divorced or not, my plan would never change.
