Chapter 1 Prologue

PROLOGUE

"BACK to earth intern!" because of the shout of his senior doctor he was shocked.

"W-what? Pardon, what is it?" he stammered.

He is Russel Luke Hernandez, a soon to be doctor and now he is an intern and he is in the middle of his class.

Now they are in a room with his fellow interns and the two senior doctors. In front of them was the lifeless body of a man. This is what they will use for their training as an intern.

And he was one of those chosen by the senior doctor to perform the patient's first surgical procedure.

The senior doctor signaled the scalpel held by a fellow intern. He hesitated but took it anyway. His hand trembled slightly until he could hold the scalpel completely.

He took a deep breath. "I can do this," he whispered softly to himself before slowly bringing the scalpel closer to the abdomen of the lifeless human body.

He closed his eyes when he couldn't even hurt her, he couldn't. His heart was beating fast and he felt extremely nervous.

Again he closed his eyes tightly, his hand shaking as he lowered the scalpel he was holding into the stainless case.

"I can't do this," he said before marching out of the training room, he heard the loud and angry shouts of one of the senior doctors and the whispers of his fellow interns about him but no more he turned around again until he finally left the room.

He went to the nearest restroom and when he entered and saw that there was no one inside, he closed the door and locked it.

He violently removed both the surgical gloves and the facemask he was wearing and threw them in the trash. This is the second time and he failed again, he couldn't do it again and he failed again.

He looked at both hands and took a deep breath. He wants to be a doctor, not just a doctor but a good doctor who can bravely face their patients and who can operate them using his barely hands. But technically he will never be one of them.

He stopped in his thoughts when he heard the ringing of his cell phone in his pocket. He took it and immediately answered the call when he saw that it was his Mother calling.

"Yes, Mom?" He spoke cheerfully to Ina as if nothing had happened recently.

"How are you, son? Have you eaten? Did you eat your lunch? How's your day?" his Mother asked one after the other. He just sighed and smiled.

"I'm okay, Mom," he sparingly replied to Mother.

"Why don't you think so? Tell me, did something happen?" asked his Mother again in a suspicious voice, even though it was very curious.

"Nothing, Mom."

"Tell me the problem if you don't want me to come to your department," said his mother threateningly.

He sighed before swallowing. "Mom?" his voice softened as he called his Mother.

"Answer me," repeated his Mother in an emphatic and threatening voice.

He sighed again, he had no choice but to answer. "I couldn't do it again, Mommy. I failed again for the second time," he felt so sad, he failed again. He was also thinking about his title on their hospital, his grandfather will surely be disappointed to him when he found out about this.

His Mother who was on the other line was silent, he heard her sigh. "Son, you're still learning. It's okay to fail," said his Mother. He knew it only made him feel better.

"But Mommy, this is the second time I've failed. I'm scared again," he told Mother in a sad voice.

"It's okay, son, don't be sad. Do you want me to cook you your favorite food?" he knew his Mother was just changing their conversation.

He smiled even though his Mother couldn't see it. "Sure, Mom. I miss eating your cooking."

These past few days he often stays here at the hospital and often comes home late.

"Okay, I will. Cheer up, son! You can handle it, not right now but the day will come when you will be good at the profession you have chosen," that was all and his Mother said goodbye.

Feeling better, he smiled before putting the cellphone back in his pocket. But that smile also disappeared as he realized that he didn't know how to face the fear.

Chapter 2 One

CHAPTER 01

WHEN she parked her own car in the parking lot, se got out, she barely brushed hier own hair before walking inside the hospital. She first passed the coffee shop inside the hospital before taking the escalator up to the second floor.

The other nurse greeted her and bowed their head to her, she just nodded in response. His eyes were on the road until he reached his own office here at the hospital. He pushed the door shut before taking a sip of his own coffee and placing the things he was carrying on the glass table.

He took the white coat that was hanging on the side and put it on and he barely touched the name plate on the side no'n. He took the coffee and then left the room.

He almost spit out the coffee he was drinking when he was approached by one of the doctors in his department. "What?" he asked with a grimace as he gave it a bad look.

"Patient 012," that was all the fellow doctor could say before he quickly passed him and hurriedly walked to the ward.

As soon as he entered inside, he saw the target, three fellow doctors and a nurse surrounding a patient lying in a hospital bed.

They try to perform the CPR procedure while the nurse adjusts the defibrillator.

He quickly approached them and looked at the patient before taking the defibrillator paddles.

"Continue the CPR," she commanded while fixing the defibrillator. She instructs the nurse to press the charge button after she puts a gel on the paddles.

He rubbed the paddles while looking at the patient. "Clear." he said the reason for the doctors to step aside was that he used the defibrillator paddles. He gave the paddles to the nurse and she did CPR with her hands. His every move is fast and polished but definitely careful and without mistakes.

The monitor screen remained soniferous, noisy and unwilling to calm down so she continued to do CPR, she fixed her both hands counterpart to the chest of the patient and continued doing the CPR. After a couple of minutes the monitor screen gradually returns to normal, the moving line is fine and the patient's heart rate is also in a normal state. It means the patient's life is safe and no longer at risk.

He took a deep breath before removing both hands that were on the patient's chest before straightening up. He looked at the two nurses. "Monitor this patient and let me know every result," he said causing both nurses to quickly answer and nod. He turned to his fellow doctors with a dangerous look.

"Follow me," her voice was like a sharp knife and it was full of authority and anyone would be followed in no time if you happened to hear that. He took the coffee he had handed to a doctor before turning and walking away.

He winced when he tasted the coffee, it was already cold.

After he arrived at their department, his fellow doctors arrived just after him.

She is Kristine Camille Villarreal, a senior doctor who was extremely strict when it came to her patients.

"Why did that happen?" he asked, calm but dangerous.

"We always do checking the patient and it was-," a doctor was interrupted when he interrupted.

"Always do? But how did that happen? I thought your operation on the patient was successful?" it couldn't help but raise its voice.

He entrusted that patient to his fellow doctors because he knew they were capable of such an operation. But it seems he was wrong. When was his last day in this department when something went wrong.

The fellow doctors looked at the door when it opened and another familiar doctor entered.

"Doctor Villarreal. The Executive Director wants to talk to you, it's about your transfer," he announced looking at him seriously.

He secretly winced before straightening his white coat and nodding. "I'll follow."

He wanted to lecture his fellow doctors but he was already being called. But before completely leaving their department, he said something, a will.

"I hope it won't happen again. A patient's life is important, I'm happy to work with you for four years. We will see again, I'll just move to another department."

...

Krist sat in front of the visitor's chair which was just opposite the Executive Derictor.

"Do you need anything?" he asked and adjusted his seat. He asked as if the person talking was not the Executive of the Hospital where he worked.

The Executive smiled sparingly. "I want to talk to you, it's about your transfer to another department."

He took a deep breath, until now he still couldn't hide his sadness at the thought of moving to another department, yes and only working in the same hospital but he still couldn't help but feel this emotion.

"Why do I even have to shift into another department?" he asked in a calm voice as if it was just nothing for him.

"The old senior doctor retired. The senior doctor of the department you are moving to has retired, a new senior doctor is needed because there is also an intern there. You need to look after him and he is an important person," said the Executive with emphasis with every word said.

He couldn't hide his reaction, he winced and straightened his own hair as if irritated by what he heard. "I'm a senior doctor. I'm fine with moving to another department, the important thing is that I'm still a doctor, but what I don't understand is why do I have to look after him, that intern? Is the intern sick? that?"

He lost his respect every time he was annoyed, he even winced and crossed his legs.

...

His face was wrinkled when he left the Executive Director's office. She has no choice but to follow what they said.

He looked up in the air and high when he walked, he met some walking patients with a guard, at that sight he couldn't help but smile secretly. He was happy to see many recovering patients, well that was their job to help and to cure the patient.

Instead of going to his own office he went to the ward, he put both hands in the pocket of his white coat before walking towards the patients.

"Hey, kiddo!" he greeted the child lying in the hospital bed in a low voice. When he saw her, he immediately smiled and sat up from the bed.

"Miss Doctor, can I get out of here?" the boy asked him, he sat on the edge of his bed.

"I understand you, has your nurse said anything yet?" he asked and scratched his own eyebrows. This is the child he operated on last week because of a wild locust that hit the child.

The boy's muzzle lengthened as he looked at him before shaking his head. "Not yet, he and Mama said I should get a little stronger before I get out of the hospital."

He nodded. "Or according to what you do, are you getting stronger?- wait, what's your name again?"

The boy's snort grew longer because of his question. "Jaybe, I've told you several times. Jaybe, Jaybe."

He repeated his own name, secretly smiled and ruffled the boy's hair.

"Jaybe, get well and when you get out of here," he said calmly.

The boy nodded one after the other. "Yes Miss Doctor, I don't want to be left here because your other patients have gone home but I haven't yet."

He looked around the ward, there were only a few patients lying in hospital beds unlike before when this ward was full. He is happy to see many patients who have recovered and returned home.

When the patient's mother arrived, she stood up and talked to her for a while, she even looked at some patients who were resting before leaving the ward.

So she was really moving into another department starting tomorrow. He arranged the things in his own office and put them in the box.

He looked at his own watch, it's already one in the afternoon. He looked outside the door when someone knocked on the open door.

"Hey, I heard you're moving, how are you?" Shiela asked, the class of her question was sarcastic and she suppressed a smile on her lips. It looks happy because this is the new one to replace him.

"I'm good, so much good. You? How are you?" he smiled sweetly at her but inside he wanted to wince. He wanted to strangle the woman and strangle her because he was disgusted by her appearance.

"Well, it's better than good. The pest is going away so it's really good," Shiela grinned at him. He nodded, ignoring what he heard.

"Oh that's good to hear. It's a beautiful pest whoever you're talking about. Anyway I have to go, I have something to do important."

He brought the box and hugged him before walking to the door but before he could even leave the former office he turned to the female doctor.

"Enjoy the room, you will make a lot of friends there, especially at night. There's a lot of ghost friends here Shiela, Enjoy!" he even winked at her and smiled before turning his back and walking away.

He heard the loud and irritating scream of the female doctor while walking, a soft laugh came out of her mouth. Pathetic!

He got into his own car and put the things he was carrying in the passenger seat before starting the car's engine.

...

EVERYONE he passes by he greets with a smile on his face and most of them are kept secret every time he smiles at them. He passed by the coffee shop stall here inside the hospital. He smiled at the barista and ordered his own coffee.

He chose the black coffee espresso, he wants to try and taste it because he often buys caffe latte so he wants to taste this one.

When he was about to take the order that the smiling barista was handing to him, someone suddenly took it so that his hand seemed to be left in the air, his mouth hanging open as he looked at the person next to him who took his order of black coffee espresso.

"Why did you steal my-," he hadn't even finished what he was saying when the woman who took his black coffee espresso interrupted.

"Just order again, it's mine," the woman interrupted what she was going to say and took some money before placing it on the counter.

"But that was mine." he whined, this girl stole his coffee.

"You said it was so this is mine now," the girl gave him a sweet smile, a sarcastic smile before turning her back to him.

He didn't do anything but let the woman take his order and just order another one. "Caffe latte please," he gave a small smile maybe black coffee espresso was not really meant for him so caffe latte will do.

Carrying his own coffee, he took the escalator up to the second floor where their department was.

Today is another day full of hope for Russell. After putting on the white coat, he came out of the locker room, the stethoscope was also placed in the pocket of the white coat he was wearing.

He finished the coffee before going downstairs to go to the ER.

"Hey brother!" he happily greets a doctor, yes he is an intern but because of his approachability he is comfortable with fellow doctors.

"Where's my coffee?" he asked him, he walked over to it before shaking his head.

"Nothing?" it asked.

He nodded. "No, but don't worry I'll deliver the coffee brothers here," he smiled before taking off his arm.

The two of them stopped talking when another doctor arrived. "We have a new senior doctor, now coming," it announced.

"Doctor Jase, I thought there was no replacement senior doctor?" Doctor Zian asked his brother.

Doctor Jase shrugged. "I heard rumors that he is already here."

Russel secretly winced, could their senior be a boy again? Will he scream again? Well, he didn't care. Just don't force him when it comes to operating on the patient because he really can't do that.

Doctor Cyril arrives. "Let's go to the department, our new senior is waiting."

"Is it a boy or a girl?" asked Doctor Zian, the four of them walking back to the department.

"I don't know either, they just said that we were being called but they didn't say if it was a girl or a boy. But if it was a girl, she was probably old."

He agreed with what Doctor Cyril said, it must be old if their new senior doctor is a woman.

It's his last year as an intern, but until now he's still afraid to face what he's afraid of. How could he imagine that one day he can overcome his fear?

When they entered the department, it was the opposite of what they expected, or rather what he saw. Because instead of being old and with wrinkled skin and white hair, it looks different.

Sexy, tall and has a beautiful face. He stopped and stared at their senior doctor for a moment, his gaze fixed on him. But suddenly realization hit him and pointed to their new senior doctor.

"You are the one who stole my black coffee espresso," both of his eyebrows met with this accusation. He still couldn't move on from getting his coffee.

Chapter 3 Two

CHAPTER 02

"I'm Kristine Camille Villarreal, your new senior doctor," he introduced himself to them but he still looked at the girl with a bad look.

His colleagues bowed in greeting to the new senior doctor and if Doctor Zian hadn't gently patted him, he probably wouldn't have bowed as they did in greeting.

"Okay, I heard from the Executive director there is an intern here. Who is it?" asked the new senior doctor and looked at them one by one.

He smiled and raised his right hand. "It's me."

His gaze turned to her and she saw his slight smirk before nodding. "So it was you? I just hope you don't give me a headache, I want an intern who has skills inside and outside the operating room, is that clear?" he looked at him seriously, he looked even scarier than their former senior doctor. But that didn't make him afraid.

He was about to answer when a nurse rushed inside. "Doctors are needed in the ER, there are patients who just arrived because of an accident," the nurse hurriedly explained.

He scratched his own head before looking back at the new senior doctor.

"Let's go," said Doctor Zian and ran first with Doctor Jase and Doctor Cyril followed by the nurse leaving their department to go to the ER.

The two of them were left inside. "What are you looking at? You should follow them," said the senior doctor.

"Then how about you Miss Senior Doctor Thief? Aren't you going to follow?" smiling but the sarcasm in Russel's voice was melodious.

Both of his senior doctor's eyebrows met. "Miss Senior Doctor Thief? Thief?"

He smiled more. "Exactly!" he exclaimed with a wide grin forming on his lips. "You stole my coffee."

His senior doctor looked at him quizzically. "I paid, so that means I didn't steal."

He frowned and looked away before secretly mimicking what his senior doctor said.

"Are you saying something?" he asked her, she immediately faced him and smiled widely before shaking her head.

"Nothing," he answered with a grimace.

...

They went to the ER AT THE SAME TIME, they encountered a scenario where the nurses and doctors were getting confused because of the number of patients.

Krist looked at the next intern. He frowned when he saw that he seemed confused while looking at the patients.

He flicked two fingers in the air opposite the face of Russel, his intern.

"You okay, intern?" he asked causing her to look at him he noticed that she stared at him for a moment before both eyebrows met.

"Stop calling me intern, my name is Russel." he said with emphasis on the last word he just shrugged his shoulders because of what he said.

He walked towards a patient lying in a hospital bed, he could feel Russel following him that he just let.

She did check the patient, he had many wounds but immediately noticed the abundant blood dripping from his stomach. He looked at the patient, he was moaning and crying softly, he looked around and everyone was busy except for the person next to him who was staring at the bloody patient with rolling eyes.

He shook his head before ripping off the patient's clothes so that he could see a large cut on the side of his stomach. He heard the strong intake of breath from the neighbor causing him to look at him.

"What are you asking us to do there? Take action, get things. Hurry up!" he couldn't help but raise his voice but even so Russel didn't move, he remained dumbfounded and looked at the patient who was going to lose consciousness at any moment because of the amount of blood he was losing.

There are many happy minutes if he waits for her to come back to her senses so that she herself leaves to get things to be taken, she runs back with the things to use.

He put on the same surgical gloves and took them to use, he looked at Russel and his eyes were fixed on him.

"I'm going to kick you out of the hospital if you don't help me here," there was a threat in his voice while still giving her an evil look.

He blinked as he looked at her before taking a step closer to her. He turned his attention back to the patient and began treating him.

He couldn't help but be annoyed with his companion, he didn't act much, he couldn't follow his orders because he was confused and confused. She can't believe this guy, is he really a doctor who took this course?

When he finished treating the patient just in time and a nurse came, he told her to take care of the patient and after that he removed both surgical gloves before pulling Russel out of the ER, he ignored the new doctor colleague who came up to them to ask him something, he continued to pull Russel out while holding him by the wrist.

They stopped not far outside the ER and confronted her. His eyes were sharp. "Did you really take the course to be a doctor?" he asked curiously, full of sarcasm.

And finally he came back to his trance, he looked at her. "Yes."

"By the way, why didn't you agree? I need your help but look what you did? You just stared at me a while ago? It's your last year as an intern right? So what did you just do?" he grabbed his waist while still looking at Russel.

He looked away from her, just wow! This is her first day here, but this is what dawned on her? His blood boils for people like this who want to be doctors.

"Now look at me and answer me." he looked at her and didn't take his eyes off until she looked back at him. She thought this guy has something, because of what the Executive Director said, but she thought differently, she thought he was good, but it turned out to be the opposite.

"I can't." faint but enough for Krist to hear. Both of his eyebrows met while looking at it because of what Russel said.

"What?"

"I want to be a doctor but I can't." he said softly before he turned his gaze to Krist.

He was dumbfounded by what he heard, he couldn't understand it.

"No matter how much I want to be a doctor, I can't do it, I always try but I always fail." Russel added to the first statement. Krist saw a strange emotion pass through Russel's eyes but it also disappeared immediately.

"And why?" none of his own questions.

Russel took a deep breath and gave a small smile that ended in a grimace before scratching the back of his head. "I'm kinda scared of blood, I'm not totally scared but I'm scared when I see a lot of blood coming out of people. And also I'm scared to hold a scalpel, I want to be a good doctor."

He stared at it for a moment before speaking. "Then don't continue your study of medicine. Just take another profession," he knew what he said was wrong but that was what came out of his mouth and there was nothing he could do. He doesn't want to take back what he said, he doesn't want to encourage the male intern in his dream if he can't do the thing he dreams of.

"Why are you so harsh?" He asked her in a low voice, she just raised an eyebrow and frowned at the white coat she was wearing.

"I'm just telling the truth. I don't like people who force something they want without being able to find a way to achieve it. As your senior, I have an authority to tell this to you." he looked at it carefully.

"If you really want to become a good doctor, learn on how to face your fear. You can do something, you're just a coward. If you want this profession, fight for it," he added and tapped her on the shoulder before finally leaving her to back in the ER, he has more patients to attend to.

...

It was noon and he had just finished going through the ward to take care of the new and some patients, he went there immediately after he treated the patients in the ER earlier.

A few doctors were left there to observe the patients. He went through the ward to check on the patients who were still unconscious, they were the patients of the last senior doctor.

He tied his slightly curly hair before finally leaving the ward. He fanned himself with his hand, he was hot because of hunger. That's how he is, when he's hungry, everyone sympathizes and he's relieved, and most of all, his pressure increases every time he's hungry.

He was about to go to the ground floor when the male intern blocked his path. He raised an eyebrow at her but she just smiled at him.

"What?" he asked gruffly.

"Shall we have lunch together?" she smiled at him making him frown. Earlier the male intern's face couldn't be painted but here he is now smiling broadly at him and inviting him to lunch?

"We're not close," he replied curtly before passing her and she quickly followed him.

"Wait, let's go together. It's my treat." it chased after him.

"For what?" he asked again.

"For giving me a motivation?" He answered her questioningly, stopping her from walking.

"What?" he asked with a smile.

"For giving me a motivation to face my fear," he repeated what he said. He answered with a shrug of his shoulders, as he remembers he didn't encourage him because he did the opposite.

This guy is incredible!

She just let him come with her, well she's happy that someone will give her lunch. His money cannot be reduced.

They brought the lunch they bought to the department to eat there, the doctor colleagues were not there, they were probably in the cafeteria eating.

The two of them had just met but here they were eating lunch together, at first they were both silent while eating but when Russel spoke that's when the silence between the two of them disappeared.

"Have you been here long? You just transferred to our department, right? Did you also know me?" it asked him one after the other.

He nodded before taking a drink of water. "Yeah, I've been four years here. And yes, I know you. An intern who was scared to a lot of blood and an intern who was scared to hold a scalpel," he said continuously and without a brake before looking back to eat.

"You really so harsh to me," he continued as if hurt by what he said. "But I don't want to be afraid of that kind of thing, I told you, I really want to become a doctor. I guess it's in our race, but that's the only thing I'm afraid of a lot of blood and I'm afraid to hold a scalpel," it's a long litany and there is a hint of hidden sadness in the voice.

Krist was a kind of a person who observes. He is always observant, quietly observant and he can read a person quickly, he is not a Psychiatrist but he is still a doctor, and one of his characteristics as a doctor is to observe a person. And in a short time he immediately met Russel, he was a pleasant person but he knew there was something different about him.

...

Russel was biting his lip as he looked at Doctor Zian and Doctor Cyril who were preventing the injured man from calming down because of the broken blow that hit him while Doctor Jase was preventing the injured man's wife from attacking her husband to slap and hurt him.

"What the hell Russel, help me here to calm it down," Doctor Jase whispered to him weakly but with interest as he restrained the Lady.

The two doctors were unable to treat the patient because of his wife's desire to hurt his own wife.

"You're a very gay man, that's what you should be!" The lady yelled at her husband who was sitting on the hospital bed, Russel could clearly see the fear in the man's eyes as he looked at his wife who, if Doctor Jase had not stopped her, would probably have rushed.

He grimaced and scratched his own eyebrows before smiling and approaching Doctor Jase and the Lady he was holding.

"Ma'am-!" the rest of what he was going to say was cut off when the lady tweaked him. "Ouch!" he moaned softly.

"I told you to let me go, I'm going to hit that man!" The Lady is still holding her hair and she is trying to remove the Lady's hand from her hair, Doctor Jase is already pulling the Lady so that she can't twist her.

Some nurses are looking at them even the patients lying in the ER, some are even wincing. It's getting messy and the reason is these two couples who even made it all the way to the hospital.

"Aishhhh!" he was trying to remove the Lady's grip on him.

"Call the guards," he heard Doctor Zian order.

He feels that at any moment his hair will fall out, what is his fault and why is this happening to him? Why does he have to be the one to catch the lady's anger? He's just waiting.

What a beautiful opening for the morning.

...

Krist is BEAUTIFUL awake, she is smiling but her face is grumpy, she walks with full of confidence but her poise was ruined when she entered the ER.

The four doctors rushed to him while separating the woman and the man. The smile on her lips disappeared as she looked at the two doctors who were holding a wounded man while on the other side, a doctor was holding back the lady who was adjusting the other doctor - an intern.

"What's happening here?!" he asked in a loud and scary voice, both eyebrows meeting as he looked at the rioting crowd.

Everyone stopped what they were doing, even the Lady's teasing of Russel stopped, everyone was quiet because of her arrival and speech.

"What's going on here?" he asked firmly and firmly.

Because of what happened, Russel removed the lady's hand from her hair and stood up straight, she even stroked her own bum and slightly opened her mouth and looked at him before blinking and smiling, she ignored him and looked at him. only the patient before being approached.
