Brianna's POV
I drank my last shot and turned to my only friend Kate. She shot an eyebrow up after I grabbed my bag and looked at her, planning to leave. Annoyed, she glanced at her wristwatch.
"C'mon, Bree! It's still early."
I shook my head. "I need to go home. Cain is probably waiting for me."
She laughed sarcastically. "He doesn't even care about you. Why are you even staying in this shit marriage of yours?"
Her words stung me like a pin, even though I knew she didn't mean to do that. It's been three years since I married Cain Hamilton, but he never showed his love to me. Kate saw it all.
Pressing down the sourness inside, I stared at her. "You know that, Kate. I just love him."
She sighed and took my hands. "Is this really worth it, Bree?"
I could see the full worry in her eyes, I knew my marriage didn't have a good start. But in all these years, I had only ever loved Cain Hamilton.
Though he's always cold to me, I agreed to marry him without hesitation when he was in the darkest part of his life.
Is this marriage really worth it? I don't know but I still hoped.
I forced a smile and hugged Kate. "I'm going now. Have fun."
She sighed again as she hugged me back. "Go home safely."
Riding my car, I drove back home silently, trying not to think about Kate's words. At least, my husband would still come back home. Our marriage was not without hope.
However, when I entered the house, I found two people standing on the staircase smiling at each other.
My heart instantly raced as I saw my husband smiling sweetly at a familiar woman standing before him.
Amber O'Connor, his ex and his first love.
They were oblivious to my presence as they have their own world.
"Well, I have a surprise for you." She said and chuckled, making my husband chuckle too. His eyes were expressive, attentive, and happy, something I never see whenever he was looking at me.
Bitterness crept into my heart as I felt tears in the corner of my eyes. My hands started trembling.
No! No! I talked to Cain, my husband, a month ago. He said he's not seeing his first love anymore but.what is this? What is she doing here? Did he lie to me again?
"I'm pregnant!"
My jaws dropped. P-Pregnant? He get another woman pregnant?
I saw how Cain's eyes widened in fraction. I even saw how his shocked expression turned into happiness, which broke my heart into tiny pieces.
I remember what he said to me after we got married. He said he's not ready to have children. That he's still learning to be a good father. That he will tell me once he was ready, so I took pills, as requested by him. But now.seeing him so happy that he's having a child with another woman is just so fcking absurd and stupid. He's been lying to me!
"I'm so happy! Thank you! Thank you so much, babe!"
Tears rolled down my cheeks but I immediately wiped it and started walking towards them, climbing up the stairs. My shoes are creating heavy noises, drawing their attention.
I almost froze in shock and pain when Cain pulled Amber, hiding her behind him. He looked at me warily, as if I was a wicked witch who was trying to hurt his precious princess.
But I'm clearly his legal wife!
God! I can't believe this. My anger intensified. I couldn't control myself anymore.
I rushed to hit Cain with my handbag. "You fcking lied to me again, Cain! Y-You cheated on me! You said you two were over!"
He grabbed my hand as he gritted his teeth, staring at me coldly. "Stop the fcking drama, Brianna."
"Drama?" I frowned at him while tears rolled down my face. "You're calling this drama? Oh, fck you, Cain. You and your bitch!"
"Don't you dare talk to Amber like that, Brianna. You are just my wife on paper!"
Wife on paper.
"That's not how you told me last time, Cain. How could you do this to me?"
His forehead creased. "I can do whatever I fcking want, Brianna. You don't have a say in this or I'll divorce you. You got it?"
Divorce? Just after I had brought his company a new investment today, he dared to file for divorce. What did he think I was?
I broke free of his hand and slapped him hard. "You bastard."
"Brianna, please don't hurt Cain. It's my fault but we really love each other. "
I turned my sharp eyes at Amber. "Shut up, bitch!"
"I SAID DON'T TALK TO HER LIKE THAT, BRIANNA! I'M WARNING YOU!"
Cain suddenly caught my neck, making it hard to breathe.
I shifted my gaze back to Cain. "So what? Are you really going to divorce me? Huh?"
He clenched his jaws. "Don't try me."
I laughed sarcastically. "You can't do that, Cain. You can't even leave me."
He laughed without humor and a devilish smirk curved in his lips."You're wrong. I can do this, Brianna. I never loved you."
My lips trembled as tears continued streaming down my face. It hurt me a lot to hear him say that.
"I didn't even try. I just used you and you are so fcking stupid and gullible to believe me."
"I don't need you anymore, Brianna. Watch me leave you painfully." He finished as he pushed me away, with only disgust in his eyes.
My heart completely sank. My tears stopped as anger filled my heart. I finally realized all the past three years were only a lie. I was so stupid for believing him.
Kate was right. It was not worthwhile hoping and staying in this trashy marriage.
Slowly, I wiped my tears as I stood straight. "So-you're really determined to divorce."
"Yes." His voice was decisive, without a trace of reluctance. I couldn't help but smile sarcastically.
"Well, then I'll contact my lawyer to prepare it as well as the disinvestment."
Nearly at once, he glared at me. "What do you mean by disinvestment?"
I sneered. "Why should I support your company after the divorce?"
"Please don't do that, Brianna! Without that money, it will ruin Cain's business-"
"Oh shut the fck up you, dirty bitch!"
"BRIANNA!"
I ignored Cain and fixed my sharp gaze on Amber. She's about to cry and I know that she's just pretending. She's a two-faced bitch and she's only showing her evil side to me.
"I-I just want to-" She sobbed pitifully but I had no interest in watching her show.
"I don't need your damn explanation or reason."
I almost clapped when Amber broke into tears with her hands covering her face. But anger soon captured me again when I noticed the jewel ring on her finger.
That was mine! My wedding souvenir from my grandfather. He had it specially made by a famous jewelry designer the year I was born, and there is only one in the world. How dare this bitch take it as hers?!
"You shameless thief!"
I yelled at her as I approached her, wanting to take my ring back. I can't let such a bitch tarnish my late grandfather. The one who loved me most and I failed him.
"BRIANNA, I WARNED YOU!"
Before I could touch that bitch, Cain had dragged my arms and given me a real hard slap that made me trip and roll down the stairs, painfully.
I heard Amber screaming and then felt so dizzy and my vision was now blurry. I was lying on the cold tile, helpless and immovable.
I couldn't even move a finger. My vision is becoming dark as I felt something wet at the back of my head.
My head hurt and my body turned cold. I really hoped anyone could help me or hug me. I tried to look for Cain but at the corner of my eye, I only caught him still hugging Amber in his arms, soothing his frightened lover gently and not giving me any glance.
At that moment, I finally realized how blind I was. Cain never loved me or even cared about me. He didn't even bother to hide this. My heart was broken into millions of pieces.
Before darkness completely consumed me, I seemed to see the worried face of my parents and grandpa. Remorse filled my heart as tears rolled down.
'Grandpa, I'm sorry. I was wrong. Dead wrong.'
I shouldn't have disobeyed your advice and insisted on marrying this shameless liar.
I shouldn't have almost emptied our family property, only for feeding his vain desires.
I shouldn't have given up being your proud heiress, to become a slave to this greedy devil.
I regret it. I regret marrying him.
If I could have a choice again, I would never repeat the same path.
I would never give this scum any chance to fool me.
I would definitely take all my pride back!
But do I still have a chance?
Brianna's POV
I flinched when I felt the cold air kissing my cheeks. My body even feels cold and seems wet.
Slowly, I opened my eyes and a calm sky welcomed me.
What.
Aren't I dead? Being pushed down the stairs by my heartless husband, I bled to death.
I still remember how horrible it was. The vitality of life slipped away from your body little by little and what you can feel was only weakness, coldness, and fear.
I remembered I had asked Cain for help but what he left for me was just his cold eyes. He didn't feel guilty at all, he was even waiting for my death.
As if he had been waiting for that moment long.
I should have guessed that. As soon as I die, he will have access to all my possessions, in the capacity of my husband.
That's what he married me for.
I thought angrily as I caressed my head to feel the evidence he murdered me but there was no wound and what I felt in my hand was my wet hair, which seemed to be caused by water instead of blood.
What happened?!!!
I looked down to examine my body and I realized I'm wearing an old custom-made blouse. Huh?
I surely remembered this blouse because Cain had angrily cut it off for I disgraced Amber though it was her who offended me first.
So how can it still be intact on me again? Am I dreaming?
I heard sobs from my left side and my eyes widened after I saw Cain and Amber. Amber was also wet, crying, and wearing Cain's shirt while the latter was half naked.
I sucked my breath and roamed my eyes, realizing we were in our vacation house. In front of us is a huge pool. I gasped and cupped my mouth.
I remember this!
I will never forget this day. This is our first wedding anniversary and I received a report that Cain is in our vacation house. I went here, thinking of a possible surprise but hell yeah. He surprised me when I saw Amber here, waiting for him.
So, I've gone back in time? I'm reborn?
"YOU ARE SELFISH AND DESPERATE, BRIANNA!"
My lips were parted as I lifted my face to look at Cain. He was angrily looking at me. His face and neck were red and his eyes were dangerously sharp.
My forehead creased. What did I. Right! Amber pulled me to the water when she saw Cain coming and pretended that I'm drowning her.
"YOU ARE CRAZY, BRIANNA! FIRST, YOU USED YOUR MONEY AND CONNECTION TO EXHAUST HER WITH PROJECTS SO SHE WON'T BE ABLE TO COME BACK TO THIS COUNTRY. NOW YOU'RE TRYING TO KILL HER?"
I pulled myself up and looked at Amber, still feeling unreal about my rebirth.
"Are you just going to stand there and not gonna apologize, Brianna?" Cain growled while clenching his jaws continuously.
Apologize? I remember what I did when this happened. I did apologize. I even cried a river that day and went back home broken and helpless. I was stupid. I cried all night and begged him to come home the next day.
This was the beginning of my hellish marriage with him.
In our first year together, he was just cold and he rarely talked to me. But after this incident, he started manipulating me, using my stupid love for him to order me around.
I can clearly remember him telling me to stop working in The Quinn's Villa, my grandfather's company. I obliged because he threatened to divorce me and I was so scared. I didn't want to lose his love.
Love? Heck, it's just my self-deception. He just used me for his own benefit. To save his name and falling company.
"C-Cain, don't. She's just angry. Don't do anything to her. She's still your wife."
Amber's words rang in my head, bringing me back to reality. Right! She has always been a two-faced bitch. Her attitude sucks! She's a freaking good liar. Oh, well. She's an actress.
Cain violently shook his head. His chest was moving up and down because of too much anger. "No, Amber. She needs to apologize to you. She's so fcking desperate to get my attention. It's disgusting!"
Instead of pain, I felt anger in my heart. How did I manage to endure this sick bastard's attitude? Did I really lose my mind because of love? I can't believe this!
"Ah!" I winced in pain when Cain grabbed my arm and pulled me.
My eyes widened in fraction. I tried to pull my arm back but he tightened his grip.
"Let me go!"
"No!" He gritted his teeth and tightened his grip more. He's almost breaking my arm.. "Apologize to her first."
I tried to push him. It was successful but he accidentally scratched my arm and it bled. Shit! I cursed in my head. It sting!
"Cain, don't hurt her!" It was Amber, acting so concerned. Wow!
I pressed my lips together and glanced at my scratch before I turned to Cain with a blank expression. He was shocked after he saw my indifference.
If this is real and I traveled back, I want to make the right decisions.
I don't wanna make the same mistakes. I will make things right.
I will save myself from this sick and toxic marriage.
"I am not going to apologize, Cain. Never."
I turned my back but he angrily pulled my arm again and made me face him.
"What?!" I growled. The pain, anger, hatred, and eagerness to change my fate are building up inside me. All I want is to make things right and I'm gonna start with my relationship with him.
He pointed his finger at me. "Say fcking sorry, Brianna! Apologize or I'll divorce you!"
I pushed his hand away as I fought his glare. "Don't you dare to point a finger at me!"
Amber held Cain's arm, stopping him. "Cain, I'm okay. Don't hurt her. Let's just leave."
A sarcastic grin curved on my lips. This pretentious bitch is kinda convincing, huh? If I didn't know her, I would think she's a saint for being this kind and patient. But nah! Being a mistress is already a big sin.
"I said, apologize!" His eyes widened in anger. I can see that he really exploded this time. "Apologize, Brianna. If you don't, I'm gonna leave you!"
I shot an eyebrow up and shifted my gaze back to Cain. "I don't want to. Go on and divorce me, I don't care."
I turned my back and started walking away with a mischievous grin on my lips. I feel so alive and my heart feels so contented Gosh! This is insane and absurd but I'm happy and thankful that I'm here. I'm really here and I'm not dreaming.
When I stepped out of the house, I saw my expensive car. I remember selling this because my grandfather's company is falling down. It was all because I pulled out a huge amount of money so I could invest in Cain's company. Now, I will do the opposite of my wrong decisions.
It's time to make things right. It's time to make him pay.
Brianna's POV
I was standing in front of the calendar in my room. It says May 2021 and now I'm certain I'm not dreaming.
I really traveled back to the past.
I don't know how this happened but I plan to use this advantage to make things right. I'm not gonna be a slave to him anymore.
I am a successful woman and not anyone's slave. Not anymore.
After this day, my married life will completely change. One week before this incident, I remember Cain forcing me to leave my grandfather's company.
That was my second-worst mistake. The worst mistake was my insistence on marrying him.
Fortunately, it's not too late now.
I tilted my head and faced my closet. I grabbed my luggage and started putting my clothes and other things inside. I had a total of five suitcases when I finished.
I went out of my room and paused in front of the stairs. This is where I fell. This is where I'll start to change my fate.
"M-Ma'am?"
I looked at the maids. Cain will fire them two days from now and will make me do all the house chores alone. I smirked and shook my head, realizing how stupid I was.
"Get my other suitcases and help me put it in my car."
The oldest maid took a step forward. "B-But, ma'am."
I smiled at her. "Don't worry. I'm okay."
They helped me with my suitcases and I immediately left after that. I drove to the house my parents built for me. And I was totally amazed by how stupid I've become. I left my luxurious life for a bastard like Cain.
I opened my laptop and sat on the couch. I barely remember my password because I never used this laptop again. I emailed my lawyer to get me a divorce form and he immediately responded.
After fifteen minutes, my lawyer came with the divorce form. I quickly filled out the form and looked at my lawyer. She was staring at me, confused by my actions.
I smiled at her and handed the paper. "File this petition, Attorney, and send a copy to Cain's office."
She tilted her head. "What happened, Brianna?"
I shook my head, still smiling. "Nothing, Attorney. I just want out of this marriage."
Her eyes widened. "But."
She sucked her breath and slowly nodded. She picked up the form and carried her bag. "I'll send a copy to him as soon as I file this."
"Thanks, Attorney."
I grabbed my phone after she left and texted Cain. I informed him about the divorce petition I'm filing.
I smirked as I remembered how arrogant he is. His pride probably couldn't take this. He won't let me crash his ego.
The next morning, I woke up very excited. I took a bath and went to my walk-in closet. I sighed in frustration after I saw my designer dresses in my closet.
These dresses were stuck in my walk-in closet for years because Cain doesn't want me to go out. He doesn't even care if I wear ugly clothes. He even made me walk around his room naked after he used my body. Thinking about it now disgusts me.
I picked a satin beige dress with a length above my knees. It hugged my body perfectly, showing my curves. The sleeves reached my wrist, hiding the scratch Cain left me.
I lifted my chin and combed my hair using my fingers after blow-drying and curling it.
My lips were bloody red and my eyes were dark and sharp. Now, I'm off to go.
I grabbed my beige pouch as I went out of my room. My stilettos were creating dominant noises, boosting my confidence.
I felt so alive. I felt like I was reborn. Stronger. Bolder. And I love this version of me.
I met my lawyer in a high-end restaurant. I've lost my patience after Cain kept us waiting all morning. With rage, I went to his office.
My heart was overflowing with anger when Cain's assistant blocked my way.
My eyes sharpened as I turned to him. "Move."
He shook his head. "I'm afraid I can't, ma'am."
A smirk was creeping on his lips and I knew he was trained well by his boss. This motherfcker!
I gritted my teeth and stared at him blankly. This guy is just as dirty as his boss. A loyal dog.
"Please leave, ma'am. Mr. Hamilton doesn't like to be disturbed."
I shot an eyebrow up. "Why? Is he with his mistress?"
His lips completely curved into a playful smirk. "Yes, ma'am. He strictly told me to not let anyone disturb them. If I were you, ma'am, I'd just leave. You'll just hurt yourself."
I laughed sarcastically. I saw how his forehead creased. He was used to me being obedient and he didn't expect me to act like that. Well, I'm not gonna do the same mistake I did before.
I looked at him from head to foot. "Birds with the same feathers do really flock together, huh? Do you even know who you're talking to?"
He smiled. "Please leave, ma'am."
"Are you going to move or I'll tell your wife that you're bringing different women to a hotel?"
His eyes widened and he paled. He was unable to say anything. I shot an eyebrow up until he slowly moved to the side and looked down.
I laughed sarcastically and stared at him. "If I were you, I'd tell the truth to your wife. Good luck, loyal dog."
I slowly opened the door of Cain's office. He's not here but from the private room inside the office, I can hear moans and groans.
I can still feel bitterness in my heart, but my anger was strong enough to keep my legs moving. I walked inside. The door of the private room isn't properly closed and I can clearly see what's happening inside.
Amber is on top of Cain, who's lying on the bed. She's moving up and down on top of him.
I clenched my jaws and took my phone out. I took a video of them in the act of their disgusting affair. Amber's career is still blooming. If people see this, her career's done.
She will be known as a mistress, not a promising actress.
I pushed the door and that's when they saw me. Amber immediately got off of Cain and covered her naked body. On the other hand, my disgusting husband covered himself and went to me.
"What are you doing here, Brianna?"
I tilted my head. "You will show up and meet me on Friday if you don't want your video spreading all over the internet, Cain."
His eyes sharpened. "Are you threatening me?"
Clenching my teeth, I took a single step closer as I held his dangerous glare.
"I am making you choose."
"And you think I'll choose you over the woman I love?"
I smirked. "I know you'll choose your woman, Cain. So if you want her career to bloom, you'll meet me on Friday. If you did not show up again," I paused and glanced at Amber who was glaring at me. I had a more evil smirk.
"Amber O'Connor's career will be over."
