The Preschool Predator

Author: : Rum Runner
Genre: Horror
My life as a diner waitress, a single mom to five-year-old Leo, was perfectly ordinary. Then came the frantic Facebook post from another mom: "CHLOE TRIED TO FLY!!! Off the balcony! Mr. Giggles! Candy Cloud Kingdom! HELP!" My blood ran cold because Chloe was in Leo' s preschool class. That evening, Leo whispered about Mr. Giggles, a "shadow man with spider legs" who promised kids they could fly to a magical kingdom. The preschool insisted their security footage showed nothing unusual, and Leo' s teacher, Ms. Albright, seemed to think it was just childish fantasy. But then Chloe, that sweet five-year-old girl, fell from her apartment window and died-just after Leo said she had "finished her mission" for Mr. Giggles. Panic truly set in when Leo, attempting to make a dangerous "Star-Power Soda" for his own "mission," almost poisoned himself. How could a child' s imagination turn so deadly? Why did no one else believe me, especially when the evidence seemed to vanish right before my eyes? Everyone thought I was losing my mind, but I knew my son was in grave danger. Clutching a chilling, left-handed drawing with unique stars-just like a disturbing picture found near Chloe-I knew I had to find out who or what was truly manipulating these innocent children, even if it meant uncovering a truth far darker than any shadow man.

Introduction

My life as a diner waitress, a single mom to five-year-old Leo, was perfectly ordinary.

Then came the frantic Facebook post from another mom: "CHLOE TRIED TO FLY!!! Off the balcony! Mr. Giggles! Candy Cloud Kingdom! HELP!"

My blood ran cold because Chloe was in Leo' s preschool class.

Chapter 1

The diner was slow, just a few truckers nursing coffees. I wiped down the counter again, my thoughts on Leo, my five-year-old, safe at preschool. My phone buzzed on the counter. A notification from the preschool' s parent Facebook group. Usually, it was lost sweaters or bake sale reminders.

This was different.

Maria, Chloe' s mom, had posted. Her words were frantic, a jumble. "CHLOE TRIED TO FLY!!! Off the balcony! Bedsheet! Mr. Giggles! Candy Cloud Kingdom! Cosmic Critters! HELP!"

My stomach tightened. Chloe was in Leo' s class.

Ms. Albright, Leo' s teacher, commented quickly. "Maria, there's no Mr. Giggles here. No staff, no volunteer by that name. I'm checking security footage now. Please call me."

A few minutes later, Ms. Albright updated: "Security cameras show Chloe playing normally all day. No unauthorized individuals."

I clocked out, my mind racing. A prank? A bad dream Chloe had?

At home, Leo was quiet during dinner. Too quiet.

"Everything okay at school, sweetie?" I asked.

He pushed his peas around. "Mr. Giggles is a shadow man with spider legs."

A chill went down my spine. "Who' s Mr. Giggles, Leo?"

"He told Chloe she could fly to the Candy Cloud Kingdom. From her favorite cartoon."

My breath caught. Maria' s post.

"He said only special kids can see him," Leo added, his voice small.

Chapter 2

I called Maria that night. She was crying, barely coherent. "She really thought she could fly, Sarah. She had the bedsheet tied around her neck like a cape."

"Did she say where she heard about this Mr. Giggles?"

"At preschool, she said. During Cosmic Critters time."

The next day, I spoke to Ms. Albright before dropping Leo off.

"I'm very concerned, Ms. Albright. Leo mentioned this Mr. Giggles too."

Ms. Albright looked tired. "Several parents have called. The descriptions are all different. One said he's a lady made of old newspapers. Another said he's tall and wears a funny hat."

"But they all mention Cosmic Critters?"

"Yes," she sighed. "And 'missions' to get to this Candy Cloud Kingdom. I've decided to stop showing Cosmic Critters for now. We'll switch to Barnyard Buddies."

That felt like a small relief.

But when I picked Leo up, he was agitated.

"Mr. Giggles was angry you stopped Cosmic Critters," he whispered in the car. "He showed it to us anyway."

"Honey, Ms. Albright said she put on Barnyard Buddies."

"No, it was Cosmic Critters. And he gave me a new mission. For Star-Power Soda."

Star-Power Soda was the hero's drink in the cartoon.

That evening, I logged into the preschool' s shared cloud storage. They uploaded snippets of classroom footage sometimes. I found the afternoon slot. My heart pounded. Cosmic Critters was playing, just like Leo said. The timestamp matched when Barnyard Buddies was scheduled.

I had to show Ms. Albright.

The next morning, I pulled up the footage on my phone to show her. But the segment was different. Barnyard Buddies played, clear as day. The Cosmic Critters clip was gone. Vanished.

Ms. Albright gave me a patient, worried look. "Sarah, maybe you were just tired last night?"

I felt like I was losing my mind.

Later, during quiet time, Ms. Albright sent a picture to the group chat. Leo was supposed to be drawing farm animals. Instead, he' d drawn a dark, spidery figure. A shadow man with spider legs.

My blood ran cold.

That night, I tucked Leo into bed. I was about to leave his room when I heard him.

"Mr. Giggles?" he whispered to the empty corner. "When is it my turn? To go to the Candy Cloud Kingdom? Chloe finished her mission."

I froze, my hand on the doorknob. Finished her mission?
