"Don't you dare run away from here!"
Livy was surprised by the sharp and shrill voice of the middle-aged woman who was her own aunt. She looked back and found her aunt, Camile, catching her in the doorway of the house, then hurried over to her with angry steps.
Her suitcase was pulled and tossed haphazardly through the door and all its contents scattered. Livy, who was just about to run away from home due to her aunt's one-sided arranged marriage with an unknown man, couldn't help but be surprised. She knew that no matter how she fought her aunt, she would lose.
"Auntie, let me get out of here." Livy followed her aunt and looked at her clothes bag sadly. "I don't want to marry!"
Camile's face swelled with anger. "You child who doesn't know how to profit! How much longer are you going to be a parasite in this family, huh? Can't you make me happy just once?"
Parasite?
Before Livy could digest the harsh words, her aunt exploded again, "This is good for you! I arranged this matchmaking because that rich family can help us financially! They can pay off the debt that your stupid uncle took! Two families have agreed, even your potential partner too. Why do you have to be so stubborn?"
"But, Auntie-"
"You know our family's finances are running low right now and we really need the money," Camile interrupted. "You think your school fees just come from the sky? Feeding you and drinking every day, where does the money come from? At least you have to lighten my load."
All of those words seemed to bring back the revenge that Livy had deliberately buried in her heart. Ten years ago, she came into her aunt's family, after the death of her parents in an accident. At first they were very kind and friendly, but without her knowing, it turned out that they secretly took all the accident compensation money belonging to her family and also took her father's pension with the excuse of sending her to school.
But it was all bullshit! No school! None of her father's expenses could be enjoyed by her at all! All those money were snatched away by this old rotten wolf! The inheritance disappeared like a thin smoke in the air.
How could she be able to endure all the injustices in this family? And now they even dared to match her one-sidedly?
"Auntie, have you forgotten that you took all the last money my father left with you? School? Living expenses? I work part time even to support myself. Where is my right to that money? Now you are saying that my father's money has been spent on my education? I can't even go to university because the money is gone!" Livy looked at her aunt in disbelief. This was the first time she had been able to vent her anger.
Camile's face immediately turned blue with anger.
"You still want to make excuses? Your father's money is not that much to support you for ten years! Moreover, to go to university! Don't dream it! Now that you are an adult, the ten years debt that I gave you should pay off in full!" Camile shouted no less loudly. "Listen to me, marriage will still happen even if you die. You will be happy to live with him and you can pay for your living expenses while living in this house."
"No, Auntie. I won't marry him! How can I marry someone I don't love?" said Livy insistently.
Camile snorted. "Love you say? This youngters talks about love only, can love make you full? You haven't met him yet, so you haven't seen what he's like. He is a handsome man who is rich, after you marry him, he may be fast or slow to die. You will not suffer. At least you will get some of their treasures in your hands. You understand?"
What? Dead?
Will her future husband be killed when they get married?
The suitcase was again pulled roughly from her hands, this time Camile took it to the room and threw it inside. She looked at Livy. "His family has been desperate to match the man, but no one accepts it because his body is so weak and could die at any time."
Livy, "..."
The woman continued, "I was just thinking, don't you two get along pretty well; a poor orphan and a dying man?"
Livy could no longer hear this. In addition to using her, her aunt even wanted to take advantage of someone else who will become her soul mate and intended to drain their wealth.
This woman was real devil.
"Look, we need this money so you're going to marry him and take care of him. No more arguing, Livy. The wedding will be a week from now, so you have plenty of time to spend with Arthur. I don't want to see you disrespecting him or being rude, do you get it? Now I want you to go to your room and call the good man and arrange a date with him for tomorrow."
Arthur? So his name is Arthur?
"Auntie, I can't and ..."
"You can't protest now. The marriage is arranged," Camile cut her off. Then hand over a piece of paper containing the phone number. "This is your future husband's phone number, call him and get acquainted with him."
Before Livy could protest again, Camile pushed her in and slammed the door, making the walls around her shake.
"This is not fair!"
Livy screamed into her pillow; she just managed to collect the fees for her own college, this should be a happy day. Just now she was about to get rid of the teenage years she hated so much, and run away from here, but now she knew she had to spend the rest of her life with a man she didn't know.
What's more, her future husband will die?
Livy found herself getting so angry that tears started to flow from her eyes. She was only twenty years old at the moment and two years after graduating she has to work part time in several places to collect her tuition fees. Now, not only is she in danger of failing for college, but she's even going to marry a man she doesn't know?
Wtf!
After Livy calmed down a bit, she took out her phone and dialed the number her aunt had recorded on a piece of paper. Considered the number for a while before finally sighing. Her aunt is a stubborn person, if she doesn't contact him then her aunt will, that's for sure.
Livy didn't want to make matters worse, other than obeying her aunt. Finally, she made the call. She didn't wait long until she heard a man answer the phone in a firm voice.
"Who's this?"
"Hm, I ..." Livy bit her lip. "Is this Arthur? I'm Livy. Um ... Livy Hayes."
The man was silent for a while before asking, "Is there something important you want to say to Mr. Finnegan? He can't take your calls at this time. I'll pass your message on to him, I'm his personal assistant."
Livy glanced at the clock on the wall and saw the short hand was at two.
"Sorry for calling at such a busy time. Maybe I'll call him later."
"Did you call to discuss important business with Mr. Finnegan?"
Business?
It's true, like television dramas, marriages that occur because of matchmaking are solely based on business. Rich families will look for women of high wealth status in order to carry on good offspring who will later inherit the rights of the company and produce the desired offspring.
However, Livy felt very strange. She doesn't come from a wealthy family today-just middle-class economy. After the death of her parents, the business her father built decades ago finally fell into the hands of her greedy aunt. It even went bankrupt before it could be managed for two years. All because her uncle, who was a gambler, only used her wealth as a detrimental investment of money.
In that bankruptcy, her aunt who was originally sweet and kind like a licking ant, changed her attitude drastically. It was as if the kindness she had done before had never existed in this world, and everything was inversely proportional to her past life. Not to mention that she has to face her cousin who is selfish and often get into trouble with her.
There was a light coughing sound that snapped Livy out of her own thoughts. Because the voice of the man opposite her sounded firm, Livy somehow felt a cold aura like real hostility from him.
"I want to meet Art-I mean Mr. Finnegan. My aunt gave me this number for an arranged marriage," Livy finally said.
"Oh." The man seemed to be aware of the situation and explained, "In that case, I will immediately arrange a meeting time. I will give you news, Miss Hayes."
Before turning off the phone, Livy stopped him, "Wait a minute. I want to ask, why did he accept an arranged marriage in this way? Doesn't he need to know my family background first?"
Her uncle and aunt were just greedy people who had lots of rotten business and debt everywhere. Over the course of ten years, they had almost moved house several times because of avoiding debt collectors. Just half a month ago, her uncle again stumbled into debt with huge interest, and threw the family into a tumble. Her cousin, Brenda, who was in school had to be reprimanded by the school because she was in arrears and threatened to be expelled.
Which rich people want to freely marry their children into a family like this?
"The marriage has been arranged by the head of the family. Whatever their considerations are, it must be good for my boss." The assistant said in a calm tone.
"But this is the modern world and people who still think about matchmaking are ancient."
There was no answer from the other side, as if the man was deliberately not answering.
Livy wondered if the man named Arthur was really too desperate for a partner that he didn't refuse one bit. He was rich and handsome, if her aunt told the truth, Livy might get some of his wealth.
However, she wasn't happy with that fact, she didn't want any wealth. Even if the wealth fell into her hands, she would not give it to her aunt so easily.
"Tomorrow's at five, there's an empty schedule. I've made arrangements. I'll message you the address."
"Ah?" Livy was dazed.
"Anything else? I have to get back to work," said the male assistant.
"No."
"Okay, don't be late for tomorrow, Miss Hayes."
The connection was cut off.
Livy looked at her phone in confusion. Just now she didn't feel like she was just talking about an appointment, but like an employee who was being given an assignment by her superiors.
What the hell is this?
... to be continued ...
Livy couldn't think of anything else but the suffering of her life so far. The poor thought didn't even leave her head until the next day. Because she couldn't continue her studies, in the morning she worked as a teacher at the pre-school, in the afternoon she would be a private tutor, then in the evening, she worked at a train counter.
Today she was free at four. She took a quick shower and changed into a simple red knee-length dress and a light gray knit blazer. She also wore a pair of red sneakers that matched her dress, let her hair into a ponytail, and was ready to go waiting for the bus at the bus stop to take her to the appointment.
It said in the message, their meeting place was a restaurant closest to where she worked. She knew the place because it was the only place the rich used to go, quite prestigious and expensive. Of course, for conglomerates holding meetings in such a place was common.
Suddenly a black car stopped in front of him. Livy got out of the way because the car was blocking her from view at the bus stop, but the car also advanced after her again. She was about to shift again, until someone came out from there.
It was a man in a neat three-layered outfit. The glasses that framed his eyes made him look elegant and educated. The man apparently approached her.
"Are you Livy Hayes?"
Livy looked left and right, and there was only her there and the man also said her name.
"Who are you?" She asked, gripping the straps of her bag a little scared.
The man's face was very calm, without a smile he said, "I am Mr. Finnegan's assistant. My name is Evander Zamiel. I'm here to pick you up."
Livy couldn't just trust a stranger and she didn't answer right away. Her feet took a step back.
"Miss Hayes, we've spoken on the phone before. Come in. I can prove that I really am Mr. Finnegan's assistant." Evander said again noticing the change in her expression.
"Sorry. I was just a little wary. And you can just call me Livy."
Evander's face didn't change, he opened the door. "Alright. Please come in, Miss Livy."
Being treated like this was something that she had experienced ten years ago. Back then, she was a spoiled and cheerful young lady, never going through hardships and suffering. Ever since her parents died, she only knew how to work hard and earn a lot of money. She was very poor. Even though her aunt's family wasn't in the lower strata of society, they still thought of her as a maid. After ten years, Livy had completely forgotten what it was like to be treated as an master.
Slowly she entered. Next to her, only an empty seat with some documents on it, with a soft smell coming out of the car, she relaxed a little.
From the front, Evander held out a phone that was making a call. "My boss wants to talk to you."
Livy grabbed the phone nervously. "Hello?"
After a few seconds, a soft voice sounded in her ear, "Sorry to scare you, Miss Hayes."
When the sound entered her ears, it was very pleasant to hear, thin as cotton that had no heavy weight. Light and smooth.
She was somewhat stunned by the voice for a moment, then she felt a slight sense of familiar calm.
"You hear me, Miss?"
Livy was shocked. "Ah? Just call me Livy."
"Then you can call me Arthur. If you called me earlier, that means you already know what's going on," he said.
There was a few low, unfavorable coughs, which he tried to cover up, but could still be heard. Livy frowned slightly. She remembered that her aunt said her future husband was sick and weak, so it wasn't a lie?
Livy was suddenly gloomy. "I want to ask you, why did you accept this arranged marriage?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Isn't this weird?" She suddenly remembered her annoyance. "If you suddenly get set up with someone you don't know, how can you just accept it? What if I marry you only with bad intentions? Aren't you afraid?"
Speaking what was on her mind was her habit. For ten years, she was always able to avenge her naughty cousins who kept trying to annoy her and ended up being punished by her aunt. But she was never afraid because of that and always tried to fight so as not to be trampled by the two cousins.
Finally after so long suffering, Livy was able to raise money to get away from her aunt's house and now this is what happened.
Her aunt had probably read her point and intended to keep her here to death.
"At least you can look at my family background first to see if it's good for you or not. Your parents definitely wouldn't give a random match for a god son like you, right?"
The man opposite her didn't say a word for a while, but suddenly a soft laugh was heard, accompanied by a slight cough.
"How about this, we can meet first to see if we have a match or not. If we don't match, then we can be friends," replied the man in a soothing voice.
For a moment, Livy felt very sorry for the man. His life was even more miserable than hers. In his weak state, didn't know how many women have refused to be matched by him and maybe look at him badly, insulting him even more.
"My name is Arthur Finnegan. You can call me Arthur."
"Huh?"
"I thought you must have known my name from your aunt, I just wanted to introduce myself in person." There was a weak breath in her ears, somehow she felt that someone on the other end of the call was beside her right now.
Livy couldn't reply to his sentence at all, was indecisive and dazed.
"Parents are used to their authoritarian attitude towards children." Arthur said again. "Why don't we meet first just to please them?"
Livy discovered that this man had probably experienced extreme fatigue more than she had.
There was another coughing sound, this time longer than before.
"Are you okay to go today? Looks like you are sick."
As Livy spoke, the sound of coughing was still audible, but Arthur must have heard it because he immediately replied, "Sorry for making you feel uncomfortable. I just had a little cold today."
The conversation on the phone was too narrow to cover many things, so Livy didn't want to pry too much. She could measure the guy right away the next time they met. And will not offend him indirectly.
"My work isn't done yet, I might be arriving late. Can you wait a moment?" asked the man again.
It was still fifteen minutes until their meeting. It's okay to wait. Livy didn't have much to do after this though.
"I will be waiting for you."
"If it takes too long, you can ask Evan to drive you home." Arthur coughed again, his voice hoarse and weak after that, "I will finish it as soon as possible."
"Okay, you better save your energy. You can drink warm ginger drink to soothe your throat," suggested Livy.
"Thank you for your concern. See you later."
"Mn."
When the connection was disconnected, Livy stared at the phone screen for a long time and her thoughts were confused.
At that time the car had arrived in the basement of a large restaurant. Evander led her into the elevator and acted like a guide.
Evander's posture is very stable and firm, rather than an assistant he is more suitable to be called a boss. His face was also educated, so Livy thought that this man would be a good fit to be a professor in a university and if she had a professor as handsome and quiet as this, all the students would definitely feel at home in the class. The thought of that made her laugh involuntarily.
The elevator quickly reached the fifth floor. Livy just came out and was presented with a beautiful banquet which was being decorated with lots of pretty flowers. She then walked down a long hallway and entered a private room. In the center of the room was a luxurious table with vivid candles, a crystal chandelier hanging above and the view outside the window was sparkling and magnificent.
The tastes of rich people always irritated her.
After sitting on the gold-plated loveseat, the waiter came over to her. She wasn't very hungry at the moment and just ordered a hot ginger drink to serve when Arthur came. Livy didn't know why she was doing this, maybe because she felt sorry for the man. Moreover, the drink ordered was not actually on the menu, but because the restaurant prioritizes customer convenience and the ingredients were not difficult, the restaurant could make it for her.
While waiting for Arthur, her eyes couldn't stop admiring the interior of the private room. Restaurants that have private spaces are clearly only places the rich can book. Too bad, Livy only wore a simple and dark red dress. She felt a little out of place.
Their caste really is so far apart.
As Arthur said over the phone, he was late, but it was only three minutes.
Suddenly the door to the private room opened again, and this time it was a tall and slender man who came. His face was very calm and warm. Very handsome and has a pleasant subtle aura. His skin was pale white, his eyes thin and sharp. With thick eyebrows, his eyes looked like they were lit up with clear webbed eyeballs, like the eyes of a stranger. He walked so slowly, but steadily, in the midst of it all, his eyes fell on her.
Could this be the one named Arthur?
Seeing that Evander immediately greeted him, Livy didn't misunderstand that this was indeed her future husband.
Livy was completely stunned. This man was much more handsome than she could have imagined. His hair was neither long nor short, with neatly slicked back bangs and thin sideburns near the ears. Even though his features looked weak and frail, his face was the type that she liked. Several times she stole glances at him, until the man arrived near her. Then Evander pulled up a chair and Arthur sat down without a problem.
As the lamplight illuminated the man's features more clearly, there was a chill in his eyes.
"Did I make you wait long?" Arthur asked calmly.
"Not too long," Livy answered honestly.
Evander whispered into Arthur's ear suddenly, and the man nodded.
After that Arthur continued to stare ahead and his expression was very relaxed. But somehow, his gaze was unfocused and far penetrated behind her. He looked at her, but it was as if he wasn't really looking at her.
"Why haven't you ordered anything yet?" asked Arthur.
Before Livy could answer, the door opened and the maid came in with a tray containing two glasses. One of the cups was not ordinary water, it had the appearance of a slightly cloudy color but its aroma was immediately inhaled by anyone.
"Who ordered this ginger drink?" The waiter asked.
"Please give it to him," Livy said pointing at Arthur, and another glass of milk tea was handed to her.
Looking at the hot ginger drink in front of him, Arthur fell silent and his brow furrowed.
"I heard you keep coughing on the phone, so I ordered this for you." Livy explained shyly.
At a glance, Livy caught the cold expression that flashed across his eyes. But it was very temporary and if no one was really paying attention, one won't notice it. Only, Livy felt a little uncomfortable with it.
This man; his body language, speech and horns were very gentle, yet there was a chill in everything he did. It was like there was a deep sense of hostility, and it couldn't be seen carelessly. This created an uncomfortable feeling. But Livy hoped this was just a guess.
Again, she saw Evander whisper something in Arthur's ear and the man's expression loosened a bit. He looked back at her with his eyes that were quite unique.
"Thanks for your concern, Livy. So, can we talk business now?"
And that gaze once again had an unknown type of cold aura which in an instant anesthetized her.
... to be continued ...
Livy had already guessed that it would actually be a business wedding, so she wasn't surprised.
As they discussed the business, Arthur offered a few things if Livy agreed to an arranged marriage. That this was just a marriage contract.
"Since it's a business marriage, it can also be called an employment contract. Let's just say we're working together. You won't get any rights to the estate from me, but I'll pay you anything for this contract."
That was what Arthur had said two days ago.
Hearing this, Livy felt the man's cold and resolute demeanor, as if if anyone disagreed, he had nothing to lose.
Livy wanted to laugh inwardly. Her aunt wanted the inheritance and the owner of the property was really smart to refuse to share.
This was good too.
"One more thing, as you can see, I am disabled, my eyes are not functioning properly and I am sickly. After we 'marry' we will not live in the same room."
Livy was shocked to find out that Arthur's unique eye was actually due to a defect?
But she didn't really care; she didn't care about other disabilities, didn't care about inheritance and so on. It was just that the payment Arthur had said earlier, she began to consider.
At least if this marriage could keep her away from her aunt, that would be great. She just had to play this game and keep it a secret from anyone, moreover she would avenge her aunt for what she did to her.
This idea excited Livy.
She asked hesitantly, "Then can I make one wish?"
"Say it."
"I'm still young and intend to go to university, if I agree to this contract, can I still continue my studies?"
Arthur who was originally indifferent, was immediately stunned. He was silent for a long time before finally answering, "I can arrange a good university for you."
"No, there's no need," Livy refused. "I've already decided which university I'm going to, I'm going to take a scholarship test to go there. The test is two weeks from now."
There was no expression from Arthur.
Livy thought he objected, so she looked at the man doubtfully. "You said that you would pay anything if I agreed, didn't you?"
Arthur was completely dumbfounded.
The pay he was referring to could be anything, but he didn't expect Livy to be so innocent. If she wanted, Arthur could even pay for her tuition, but she wanted to take the scholarship route.
He had checked Livy's background before. She came from a family with a good economy before her parents died in an accident. After that she was raised by her uncle and aunt who were crazy about wealth and spent all the costs of her father's death and inheritance. Even make it as a maid in the house. This girl's life was very unlucky and he tried to put her to the test. He did not expect that this girl was also so simple.
"It's like I didn't do anything if that's your only request," Arthur finally answered.
"I actually just want to continue my studies and get a high degree." Livy smiled shyly.
Arthur whispered something to Evander, then looked back at Livy. "I agree with that. So do you accept this contract as well?"
"Um ..."
"Sorry, but I heard you live with your cousin who keeps bothering you, right? If you don't agree to the arranged marriage, you will return to the house, and it will be difficult for you to continue your studies."
Those words pierced her heart. She lifted her head for a moment to see Arthur's face. His face was completely pale, his lips were white and dry, he looked like fragile porcelain that could shatter at any moment. But unexpectedly his gaze was really firm and somewhat oppressive.
Livy looked back down. "You're right."
"So?"
"I agree, but can I take part in making the contract?" Livy thought, she also needed some conditions to make her comfortable.
Arthur immediately agreed. "That you can arrange with Evan."
"Thank you."
As she was thinking this, a friend waiting for her to come out of the train counter where she worked, immediately nudged her a bit hard on the shoulder.
"Hey, I called you over and over again! What the hell are you thinking?!" Sarah clicked her tongue.
Livy was just out of her mind and still in a daze, she was immediately pulled to a nearby bench to face Sarah's irritated face head on.
"I immediately ran from university as soon as I received your text! I almost died of a heart attack! What you're saying is ... you're kidding, aren't you?"
This was one of Livy's best friends, Sarah Grey. She had been friends with Livy for almost seven years. You could say Sarah was almost like her own family.
Livy looked at her serious face and teased her. "I've found a husband-to-be, why do you seem displeased?"
Sarah was still a little annoyed by the sudden text, like she had been struck by lightning in the early hours of the morning. She panicked a lot and this was how Livy responded.
"I'm being serious here, ok? You promised you would want to go to university, remember?" Sarah complained.
"Yeah."
"So?"
Livy explained, "Think of this as the only way to get away from my aunt. As long as I can still go to university, isn't that a good thing?"
"But ... you don't have to give up like this ..." Sarah's head lowered.
"Sarah, listen to me, it's not like I'm giving up. This is the first step in my revenge for auntie."
Sarah looked up. "You mean?"
Livy deliberately didn't reply.
"Wait! You want revenge on that old fox? Are you serious? You are really crazy!" Sarah had no idea.
Seeing Sarah's rambling, it really had no effect on Livy at all. She hummed.
Sarah's eyes narrowed. "Wait, tell me, how's that man you're betrothed to? Is he old, wrinkled, oily and pot-bellied? Livy, come on, you can't be so desperate after all. Let's think of a way to run away from your aunt again, ok?"
Seeing Sarah's panic made Livy a little touched and funny.
"If he's a potbellied old man, how can I be this happy?"
"So ... he's a handsome, rich and kind man? Is there still such a perfect man in this world?"
Livy smiled meaningfully.
Sarah couldn't believe it. "Shit! A rich man, if he's handsome, he must be playboy, you know!"
Livy waved her hand, said while reminiscing Arthur's handsome face in her head, "It doesn't matter how he is. I'm going to marry him and I'm going to university, of course that's a good thing. Can you support me?"
The hatred of her life with her aunt makes Livy finally settle on an arranged marriage. The employment contract would be made in a few days, then they would get married. Even if she was toyed with, Livy still had the strength to escape.
But somehow she was sure that Arthur wasn't that kind of person.
She was so sure.
***
At Camile's house, the noisy teenage girl rushed into the room.
Camile was combing her hair when she glanced at her daughter who had arrived. "What's wrong? Why are you running around the house?"
"Mom, is it true that Livy is getting married in a week? To a rich man? And is he the disabled man you previously wanted to set up with me?" Brenda made an ugly face.
Camile glanced at Brenda. "You refused to marry him, right? So I set him up with Livy. Do you regret it now?"
"Why do I? Mom, you said he was disabled and almost died, how could I want to be with him?" said Brenda disgusted.
Camile was currently in a good mood, she replied, "That's why then I matched him with Livy. Isn't that great? If Livy gets married, our family status will go up. Her future husband is a successful businessman."
"Why are you so happy for her? She married a successful person, won't she dump us?" Brenda sneered.
"What are you talking about? Did she dare to do that to me?" Camile scolded her. "Listen, even if she dares, she won't be able to. I'm very familiar with her future bespectacles, if Livy makes trouble, she'll be taken care of by them immediately."
Seeing her mother so confident Brenda said again, "That means when she gets married later, she will have a lot of money and good clothes. Mom, I want to get married too!"
"Geez, you are so pretty, Honey, there must be a lot of rich guys who like you. Don't worry, ok?"
"But it's true, Mom! So far I've only had old and ugly clothes, I wear them over and over again, it's a shame. Now Livy is going to marry a rich man, she'll have everything! And we'll still be poor!"
Brenda had long been jealous of Livy's beauty. Even if she didn't want to admit it, Livy was still the most beautiful of them all. So she unknowingly often pranked Livy by secretly wanting to spoil her face, but Livy always got away.
Not only that, when Livy came to this family, she tried to snatch Livy's nice clothes and leave their clothes for her. Not once did she let Livy wear anything nice.
Now that she heard Livy was going to marry a rich man, she was very envious.
"What are you talking about? Livy's stuff is her sister's too, right?" Camille tried to calm her down.
Brenda looked at her.
"After she's married, you can ask her for money to buy nice clothes or whatever. It's not that hard," continued Camile.
Brenda's eyes sparkled. "Mom, can I transfer to an international school too? My old school was really bad, and there weren't any rich guys there."
Camille thought about it. "Of course."
Brenda was a little surprised. "Then can we take a vacation abroad too? We can also party every day? We can buy anything?!"
"Of course you can, Honey. See, this is also a stroke of luck for us, isn't it?" Camille smiled slyly.
The two laughed and pointed at each other while mentioning all their wishes. Camile felt that the dream was in sight now and was satisfied.
Arthur's family is said to be the second richest, even if not the first, it is still very rich. They are really lucky.
"Mom, we really can have it all, right? We're going to be rich, right?" Brenda cheered.
"Yes, you can have anything. You can ask Livy for it after she's married." Camile said, "So be nice to Livy from now on, don't bother her anymore. Got it?"
"Okay, Mom, for the sake of being rich it's not a problem." Brenda smiled contentedly.
"Alright, you got it now, go play." Camile chased the child away.
Without anyone noticing, Livy was currently behind a wall and overhearing all these conversations. She felt disgust at this family member and almost threw up. Her hands clenched tightly.
Exactly the next day, a luxurious black car came to their house. Camile immediately sparkled and greeted the person.
"I am Evander, Mr. Finnegan's assistant." Evander politely said after being ushered in. "I came here to take Miss Livy for a wedding dress fitting."
"Don't be shy. Livy's off today. She's going with you." Camile smiled at him.
She told Brenda to call Livy and soon Livy appeared.
Brenda nudged Camile's shoulder while giving a code. Camile understood what her daughter meant and said, "Look, Livy has a sister who's going to the party too and she doesn't have the proper clothes. Can she come too?"
Livy glanced at them and gritted her teeth.
On the other hand, Evander's reply was very calm, "For family wear, a special designer has made the clothes. It will be delivered to your home tomorrow."
Camile smiled stiffly. "Oh, is that so?"
"Mom!" whispered Brenda disgruntled.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Evander, but my daughter is very picky. If designer clothes don't suit her taste, that's a shame. Can't she choose her own favorite model?" Camile said carefully.
Brenda nodded and looked at Evander expectantly. Her mother had said this and a man who was just an assistant could he refuse?
Evander replied, "Everything has been arranged by Mr. Finnegan's big family, I'm just carrying out orders. You can prepare your own spare clothes, if later the designer's model doesn't fit."
Livy laughed at them inwardly.
Camile was not happy, but there was nothing she can do at this point because the wedding has not yet taken place. She was really dissatisfied with this assistant, and felt angry about it. This man was just an assistant and he dared to go against the wishes of his prospective employer?
What the hell?
Camile was smiling on the outside, but she was in her heart she had thought of firing this man immediately if Livy had officially become the master of the Arthur family! Let's see later.
"If there's nothing else, I'll excuse myself." Evander looked at them calmly, no expression on his face, no one knowing what he was thinking.
Livy immediately followed Evander into the car and couldn't contain her excitement, she covered her mouth to laugh quietly.
She had heard the foul intent of her aunt and Brenda and they had taken action as soon as Evander arrived. Even that action failed and deserved to be laughed at, she was very satisfied!
Evander glanced through the mirror up ahead. "Miss Livy, have you quit your job yet?"
The car engine started after the question was asked.
Livy cleared her throat. "I've resigned at the train counter, but I'm still doing my job as a private tutor."
"As promised, you will get a salary from Mr. Finnegan every month. Do you still have to do this?"
The salary that Arthur offered was quite large, she had refused it, but Evander said that it was Arthur's request in the contract. So she couldn't argue and could only accept it.
"I just want to do something useful outside of class." Livy said while looking at the city view from inside the car.
Evander understood and didn't ask again.
After a while the car arrived at a large building and it became clear that this place was a famous boutique from a famous designer. Livy got out of the car nervously, glancing around.
"Arthur ... is he coming too?" Livy blushed a bit at asking this, before Evander could answer she continued, "He caught cold two days ago, how is he now?"
Evander replied, "Mr. Finnegan is busy. Designer already has a record of his size, so he probably won't be coming."
Livy lowered her head, and without anyone noticing even herself, it was a feeling of disappointment.
"He's recovered now, Miss Livy, please don't worry," Evander said.
