The Perfect Assistant

Author: : Penelopeann
Genre: Romance
And the only times when I do happen to misbehave, it's for a perfectly legit reason. On reflex I shrink away from her when she comes close to me, reaching out a hand. "It's ok sweetheart, come here, I'm not going to hurt you, it's lunch time." She says in her usual calming tone. The word is that this woman is the best there is, to get mute kids to talk, fix their problems, and things like that. That she was the best in the country, world even. Also that she's fixed every kid/adult/teenager that's come her way. Except for me. She was just hired a week ago, because of me, and she keeps trying to make me come out of my room, and a few times she almost used force. As you can probably already tell, I don't talk. A lot of people have been hired to try to help me, with all my problems, but none of them work. I guess I'm permanently broken. Giving the lady a glare, I stand up on my own and move towards the door. People know I don't like physical contact. Actually, I despise it. I'll go crazy if someone touches me, I'll totally flip out. Just one of the reasons why they're keeping me here in this place.

Chapter 1 Thinking

Aurby's POV

"Aurby!" My co-worker Sarah semi- yelled from across the counter.

"A couple just walked in. Do you think you could show them to their seat and give them some menus?"

"Yeah, sure thing," I rushed over to them and escorted them to a booth.

"Here are your menus. Can I start you two off with something to drink?"

They nodded and begin to quote a list to me as I smiled politely at them, ignoring the throbbing pain in my feet as I wrote it down.

"Alright, I'll be right back with those and hopefully by then I can see if you're ready to order," I walked to the back to make the drinks, and as I did Sarah sauntered past me again.

"Ariella, more people," she whispered and nodded towards the line.

"I can't multi task; isn't my relief supposed to be here?" I questioned, but only got shoulder shrugs as a response.

Pressing my teeth together, I brought the drinks back to the couple and was about to seat more people until they stopped me. "Uh, miss, we're ready to order."

I let out a 'whoosh' of breath and took down their orders before placing them on the ticket holder for the chef. Surely, they would later complain about my attitude, but the ache in my feet didn't allow me to care.

"Hey, excuse me, I haven't ordered yet," a mother with her son yelled. Boy, can I not wait to find a new job and get the hell out of here.

"I'll be right with you, " I responded, calmly.

I approached a man in the waiting area who had been waiting for a while. He had dirty blonde hair and was fairly well built as he wore a grey suit with a blue tie.

We didn't get many like him often. I escorted him to a seat as well as handed him a menu.

"Can I get you a drink?" I offered, with a smile.

"I'd like a coffee, dark, " he told me, returning my gesture with boyish charm. I nodded and was about to walk off until he continued.

sighed before chuckling inwardly. "Eat or be eaten, right Sara? Isn't that what you've always told me? Now Headquarters left that account open - on the table. If I didn't pick it up someone else would have and you know this. "

"You really have lost your mind," He shook his head, and smiled at me. I didn't give a damn about how long he's been in this business. It was time for fresh blood and my father knew this. If he had thought I wouldn't make smart decisions I wouldn't be in the position that I am.

No matter how much I had to go through to get here, I'm here. And I am here to stay.

"Give my regards to Vera," I hissed, hinting he should leave as I waved him out, nonchalantly.

He glanced at me over his shoulder once more before heading to the elevator. As he did, my personal assistant, Katerina approached me.

"We have a leak in bonds," I informed her. "Find out who the fuck it is, right now."

She nodded and walked off to comply with my demand. I decided to go into the elevator myself. Once I stepped in, something caught my eye.

More like someone. A woman. I hadn't seen her here before. There was someone in my building that I didn't know. Surprising. I had seen her walking as I was getting interrogated by Sara, but I didn't bother to ask who she was because I was sure if she was worth my time our paths would cross again. She looked down shyly so I didn't get to see her face clearly. Only her brunnette hair.

It was kind of... Cute? I bit my lip and tilted my head. Most women approach with their boobs out, if they accompany any, and wide smiles ready to see what I have in my pockets or in my pants in general.

Perhaps she isn't aware of who I am.

I laughed to myself at the thought. The elevator door dinged, snapping from my thoughts before it opened and I walked out.

I tried to catch another glimpse of the petite woman as she went down a separate walkway, but Favour, my blonde account manager approached me. "Daniel, will you be attending the Vera Secret meeting tonight?"

"Yes, I will be, why?" My eyebrow raised.

"I was hoping I can catch a ride."

The familiarity in her eyes let me know she wasn't talking about a car ride and frankly, I had no problem with giving it to her. She grinned at me waiting for my response.

"I got time."

"And no need to go back and forth. I don't have that kind of time. Just get me an egg and cheese omelette, thank you."

"A man, who likes to get right to it," I nodded, aiming to seem impressed. "I'll have that out for you."

I put the order on the rack and decided to have a seat as Sarah would most likely get the next people seated.

"Tired?" The chef asked, the corners of his lips pulling back sympathetically. I nodded in response, and after a few minutes, he handed me Mr. Business Man's order.

I walked it over to him and sat it down. He was in the middle of drinking, and I noticed he tried to quickly swallow what he had in his mouth before I could walk away.

"Hey, you look tired out. Why don't you take a break and sit with me?"

I shook my head and let out a small laugh.

"Oh, no thanks. I can't do that now. I have to go-"

"If you don't I'll be a very unhappy customer and I know you don't want that," he pouted, jokingly.

Hesitantly, I gave a sharp nod and hastily sat down in front of him, trying to look everywhere except at him. I don't like to watch people while they eat. I looked down at my watch and sighed when I saw I was supposed to be able to clock out fifteen minutes ago. I tapped the table with my fingers, awkwardly, until I felt a cold hand over mine.

"Yeah, that's not helping," he chuckled, and I looked down, bashfully. What was I doing here? Why'd he care where I sat down?

"You don't have to be shy. I am not going to bite you. Unless, of course you ask me to."

His dark brown eyes glanced at me expectantly. As though there was no way I would find his joke unfunny, and when his brows furrowed in confusion, I looked down. I felt so small sitting at the same table as him.

"Hey, hey. I'm joking. Lighten up."

"I'm sorry, I just-Why am I sitting here?" He took another bite of his omelette and wiped his lips with his napkin, stretching the silence. "Well, I figured you needed a break and why eat alone when there's a pretty girl like you here."

"Oh wow, um thanks," I cringed at my own words, which only caused him to laugh. I wasn't very good with conversating with people either. I didn't know what to say most of the time, unless I was talking to someone whom I have known for a long time. And even with those people, I am sometimes lost. Although, this guy seemed really nice; not like most guys who looked the way he does.

"Alright. Well, I'm done here. Thank you for sitting with me." His hand reached out for mine and I instinctively flinched at the sudden blast from the past.

"I'm Matthew by the way and you are.. " my hand planted itself in his as I watched him attempt to read my name tag. "Aurby."

"That's me," I murmured, sounding so stupid. Once he released my hand, he pulled out his wallet and placed the money, including a fifty dollar tip on the table like a real gentlemen.

"Pretty name for a pretty girl. Here's my business card in case you ever want to get out of here... I hope to see you again."

I nodded in thanks and grinned as I put the card in my back pocket. Picking up the money, I put it in my apron before stacking his plate and cup and bringing it to the kitchen.

"Aurby, I'm so sorry I'm late, my daughter was at this after school thing, and I -" My relief had finally showed up and was ready to throw her excuses before I cut her off.

"It's fine, Clara," I hugged her as she put on her apron, then took off mine.

"The good news is you're here and you have a hell of a night ahead of you. "

She groaned in frustration but went straight to work. I almost flew out of the door and was happy to see my ride still waiting outside. I jumped into my best friend, Maddie's, red Nissan and off we went.

When I finally made it home, I just wanted to sleep. It was already eight-forty. I went to undress for a hot shower when something fell out of my jeans. I bent down to see it was the card Nicholas had given me. It read 'Sinagon Headquarters' on the top and underneath 'Mattew Leonard.'

I unexpectedly smiled when I saw his name, but quickly dismembered it once I realized what I had done. Was he offering me a job there or did he want me to call him? I wasn't going to call him because I've only met him today, but I was going to research the company name. They must pay more than what I make now.

I waited until after I got out of the shower and dressed in my usual pajamas that consisted of black, boy shorts with an oversized white shirt. I grabbed my phone and searched up the name and as I expected, hundreds of results came up. On their website there the man was himself: Matthew Leonard; CEO.

I was sort of confused what a guy like him was doing at a restaurant like that? As I scrolled down the page, I didn't see any job openings. They looked all full to me so I pressed 'back' and scrolled down more until my eyes met something interesting.

Sinagon Headquarters in rivalry with SEO limited. Who would have thought businesses had actual rivals? SEO Limited was highlighted in blue so I clicked the link and what I saw brought a smile I hoped to keep.

'Looking for Interns. Apply now.'

If I was going to be able to buy myself a car this was deffinetly the place to start.

"Sensational, Daniel," The principle owner of a company SEO trades from applauded my smart thinking. Oh, what a kiss ass he is. I'm enjoying every second if it.

"Really?" I responded, proudly, straightening my black suit lines.

"Yeah, I also heard you were opening in Miami," he said, looking very impressed.

"Yeah actually, in April," I informed him, feeling proud of myself as he nodded in approval. The only thing he needs to worry about is his lousy off shore bank accounts.

"Excuse me, Mr. Daniel" my intern, Kim, walked in.

"Your 2'oclock is waiting. "

I undid my leg - as it was folded over the other while we sat in my conference room and walked out along with Sara following behind me

"Thank you, Kim. I'll just show our guest out."

"You're doing very well for yourself, Daniel," he placed his hand on my shoulder in which I followed his movement.

"I'm very proud of you."

"Ahh, well couldn't have done it without you," I lied.

What a great bullshiter I am.

"Learned from the best."

He stopped me as we walked and pulled me to the side.

"Look, this is probably bullshit, but one of my guys said that there was one of your executives sneaking around one of the accounts for Sinagon."

"If you're so sure it's bullshit, why are you asking me," I asked, trying to maintain composure.

"Because they heard it from someone inside your angency," he whispered to me, leaning in.

"Just don't want you making that kind of mistake, Daniel."

Was that a threat? This little bitch-

He was lucky I needed his friendship, but more importantly someone in SEO is a tattle-tale, and I deffinetly don't like those.

sighed before chuckling inwardly. "Eat or be eaten, right Sara? Isn't that what you've always told me? Now Headquarters left that account open - on the table. If I didn't pick it up someone else would have and you know this. "

Chapter 2 Coded

Aurby's POV

I hear my alarm calling to me and I jolt up, remembering I have to get that damn schedule.

I put on a white shirt and a blue overall styled dress, pairing it white shoes. I am only dressed so casual because I will be there to grab my schedule and go, no mingling whatsoever. I finish brushing my hair, still extremely tired. This man is tiring me out before I can do it myself. I brush my teeth and put makeup on quickly.

I can't help but to remember this weird man, he's blushing around me but he already acts cold towards me. I hate him.

I get my stuff and leave my apartment, grabbing my keys and walk downing to the elevator and patiently wait for it to come to my floor. Well, soon enough it comes up and opens quickly, i walk in and press the lobby button. I watch the numbers drop and it's so dark out still because it's so early.

The doors open and not even Harper is out, I walk down to my car and unlocking it, I now keep that key Mr. Knight gave me on my car keys.

I drive down to the building and luckily I beat traffic, and park my car outside the lot. I walk inside the building and everything is still somewhat dark and quiet, a couple of people are working but no one is at the desk. I go to the elevator and it opens automatically, no wait this time. Once it opens, I walk in and press floor 36 it beeps requiring the key slot, which I slide in and the elevator shuts taking me up to the floor.

It reaches Mr Knight's floor and I walk out looking towards his office which his light is on. I knock and i hear footsteps walking to the door. Mr. Knight stands there in a suit like yesterday and his hair sits perfectly again on his head. His perfect bone structure sits in the light from the room, highlighting all his perfect features.

"Morning." He says in a deep voice opening the door for me and walks over to his desk looking for a paper.

"Good morning." I say quietly and very intimidated.

"Here's the schedule, you work tomorrow. And then usually you'll get the weekends off. Unless said otherwise by me. Only me." He says calmly, handing me the schedule and I take it from his grasp. This time his fingertips graze my hand and I nervously pull back.

"Thank you." I say in a soft voice and gaze at the schedule, my eyes widen as I see there are not too many days off and I frown. I may seem difficult or possibly even a brat but come on, sometimes I want to actually sleep.

"Um. I just don't think that's fair, sir." I blurt out clearly not thinking and I see his face furrow, and he stands up walking towards me.

"Life's not fair, either do it or find a new job." He spits coldly to me, as he looks down at me.

I look up and stand up for myself, this man thinks he is going to talk to me like that and have me allow it.

"I'll do the work. No one said i wouldn't." I recall and he looks down at me blankly, and leaves his office.

I walk out and see him going into his penthouse, I roll my eyes annoyed not to mention the amount of sass this man has. Have I mentioned i hate him?

I walk over to the elevator, schedule in hand and I press the button waiting for the elevator until i hear a deep voice call for me.

"Wait, Aurby." I hear Mr. Knight call out to me walking down his stairs swiftly.

"Yes?" I answer and watch him walk back to me.

"This is my office key, use this when i'm not here when I need a certain file and such, and someone will have you deliver it to me. Wherever i am." He demands and I nod in a daze, somehow in this situation I got very turned on which was not necessary because of this stubborn, obnoxious, rude, confusing man.

'Knock it off Aurby' I slap myself in the face, not literally but in my mind and snap out of it.

"Yes." I say and he walks back to his office and by this time the elevator has now opened and I walk in dumbfounded.

I watch it drop floors slowly and it finally reaches the lobby and I walk out to the still empty lobby.

I start my car and drive back to my apartment stuck in traffic now, it's about 11:30am and i'm going back to my apartment to maybe run errands if i have any.

I'm driving to my apartment and i decide to use the faster way, which actually worked this time as there was less traffic there. I arrive to my apartment and get out my car, locking it as well.

I go into the building and take my phone and schedule upstairs, patiently I wait for the elevator to open for me and I step inside waiting for the door to shut.

I press floor 16, and it jolts up taking me to my floor. Once I arrive onto my floor I find my apartment and slide my key card in, once it opens i kick off my shoes and my phone begins to ring which results in one of my loud groans.

I grab my phone seeing 'Stella Davenport' calling me, i slide my phone and answer putting her on speaker so I can multi task by making my food.

"Hello?" I ask curiously to why she's calling me so early.

"Oh my, Aurby. I thought you were dead you haven't texted me." She exclaims over the phone and i laugh slightly, continuing to make my food.

"Well, why don't you come over." I laugh and shake my head

"I will, what's new by the way?" Clara asks me and i laugh sarcastically.

"Oh, hear this. I got fired from the magazine editor slot, I applied at a different building. And now i'm working for a CEO of his own company in New York City, Im his assistant." I explain and I hear silence which turns into laughing.

"Thanks. He is but he's too sharp and he's a gigantic asshole. I'm gonna go now, i just got another email and it's from my boss." I say and hang up walking towards my laptop.

I open it to see if it was an email from Mr. Knight, and oh yes, it was an email from him.

I walk over to my laptop in a hurry and open the email which is from my boss, who not to mention is so intimidating. Just his gaze frightens me because I know if i screw anything up, I'm done for.

My eyes begin to scan the screen as i tilt my head confused.

'On Friday i have meetings to attend, you will need to go into my office. Grab my files from the silver cabinet, F11, F36, R21, P34, Q64, B98, and A34. Alphabetize them and put them in numerical order. Put them on my desk and then go on computer, use the scanner to scan the numbers and it should save. If not call me, immediately. (555) 372-4629.' I read and my eyes widen at how much work that sounds, and how much energy i'll have to use for that. I don't have that kind of energy.

Instead of arguing, I begin to type back to him. 'Yes, of course.' I send the email and take my phone out saving his number under Mr. Knight

I close my laptop and I hear a knock on my door, I walk over with a meddled expression on my face, locking through the hole and I see Clara, my best friend who is extremely complex but i love her. I turn the knob and open it and she walks in grabbing me into a tight embrace.

"Ah, i missed you." she exclaims in my ear, which makes me squint my eyes softly followed by a smile.

"I missed you too, but you literally kinda live with me." I laugh and hug her back.

"You know how to ruin a good thing." Stella says disappointed and I laugh slightly, pulling away.

I shut the door behind us and we walk into my apartment to chat.

"So you're working for Matthew? He's a real life businessman. Trading economically and whatever they do with different countries and shit." She exclaims to me and hits my shoulder softly. I roll my eyes extremely annoyed.

"Eh, he's hot. He's too serious though, and all the workers are up his ass except me. I can already tell it'll be interesting working for him." I laugh nervously thinking about that thought.

"Well that's your loss, if you decide you don't want anything to do with him. Send him my way." She winks at me and I once again roll my eyes.

"If he wants you to begin with." I say in a joking matter and she looks at me with a offended expression.

"Maybe he would." she teases, which causes me to burst into pits of laughter.

"Oh yeah he would."

"What's that supposed to mean?" She argues back to me and i laugh sarcastically.

"Nothing, are you finished arguing? You're hurting my brain." I call out to her as I sit on the couch.

She follows me and sits across from me on my other couch.

"I wasn't arguing. I was debating with you." She assures and i nod.

"Okay... So what's new?" I interrogate and she blushes for some awful reason.

"What. Why are you turning red again?" I question, suspiciously.

"I met someone." She confesses and i stare as i widen my eyes.

"You mean someone.. like a human.. who actually wants to put up with.. you?" I question extremely surprised and she gives me a dirty look.

"Oh shut it. I'm sure he likes me back. It's getting serious, if i stop coming around. That's why." Clara affirms and I raise my eyebrows at her.

"Oh, really?" I close my eyes, cringing at the thought of someone really wanting to put up with this woman.

You poor guy, you are in for a treat, really.

Stella is extremely stubborn which makes it hard for her stay in a relationship because she's constantly thinking his time is always gonna be dedicated for her. Little does she know these men have lives and work for a living. Unlike her. Half-assing everything to the max. My best friend is probably the craziest woman but i love her to death. Only i speak like that to my best friend, and if someone else does, help me God.

"Yes! He's from Staten Island." She exclaims excitingly.

"What are you laughing about, smart ass?" Clara shoots me a glare and i immediately stop laughing.

"Oh god. No." I laugh embarrassed and she gives me a confused look.

"Nothing.." I laugh again before I close my mouth.

"Yeah.. Nothing. That's what i thought." She warns to me and i smile sneakily.

"Geez, i didn't know you were already protecting him from your best friend." I lecture and she rolls her eyes, playfully.

"You know i would never choose a man over you." She teases and i shoot her a suspicious glare.

"I hate men, i can't stand the thought of you being with some guy. They're hot of course but they're men. Stubborn men... like you! but men." I say blankly in a serious tone and once again Clara shoots me a warning glare.

I roll my eyes playfully to her, hinting out my joke and as you can tell how much I enjoy rolling my eyes. It's a common habit.

"Shut up, Im tired though. Can i sleep here tonight?"

"It's not even nighttime what the hell, Clara. But yeah i guess you can. I have to work early in the morning though." I process through her thick brain and she stares at me dumbfounded.

"Work! Like as in you do your duties in return for money." I confirm and she widens her eyes, tormented.

"You need to shut your little mouth.! I know what work is... But oh you get to see your boss. Lucky you." Clara changes the subject and I click my tongue in annoyance.

"He's not gonna be there tomorrow. He has important business meetings." I say in quotations and she looks at me confused.

"Ahh, well at least you get to be in the same presence where he is usually focused and working, if you're lucky enough his office will smell like him! Oh! Check his coat rack, I'm sure it smells so manly. I bet he looks hot without having to try." Clara fantasies and i shake my head.

"Pff...Can you knock it off you weirdo!" I yell at her and she flinches in return.

"You need to calm down. If i can't see him, let me fantasize about him." She argues with me and i give her a blank stare.

"No! N-o spells no." I roll my eyes annoyed to the max and i get up going into my room. Of course this woman follows again and we talk for hours and eat until I am forced to go bed to wake up early enough so i cannot be late for my first day.

I knock out in my comfortable bed and Clara of course decided to sleep with me all of the sudden, when i have a guest bedroom made specifically for her.

Soon enough, 8 hours later. I wake to Clara somehow kicking me in her sleep. This psycho woman, she can't sleep right or what?

I think to myself and get up sleepily, i go to the restroom, washing my face and then brushing my teeth and hair. I fix my straight hair long brown hair that hits my back which shines due to the serum i put in it daily. I apply makeup and throw on my outfit which is the

"First day of work, and I have to be as basic as the rest of the women and men at the building." Basically, a black tight skirt, white button up shirt, and black heels.

I walk out the room, i grab my keys and phone. deciding to skip on food until i finish work and maybe me and Stella can get something. I walk out to the hallway and press the elevator button, which calls one of the four elevators that sit on each floor.

I wait patiently as finally i hear the ding, and the elevator opens. i press the lobby floor and the door shuts as it ascends to the bottom. It opens quickly and i walk out looking to see no harper once again. possibly because it's too damn early for her to work.

Except me.

I walk to my car as i unlock it, quickly opening my door. I turn my car on and luckily enough, i beat the damn traffic and arrive at the building in under 10 minutes. The building is well lit for so early in the morning, and i park my car turning it off, grabbing my keys and phone. I get out and shut my door locking my car, i walk inside the building as of course i'm one of the first people here.

I go the elevator, and it opens, i quickly step inside and press floor 36. it beeps requiring the key slot, and i insert the card, which quickly ascends me to the top.

It finally opens and i see a light on, confused as hell. i walk over to his office where i see him putting his jacket on almost like he's about to leave.

"Oh, good morning." I say hesitantly and he looks up, i feel my heart pound and once again I want to slap myself in the face.

"Hm. Morning." He says blankly and beckons me over to the shelf's and work compartments.

"Here. This is where these files are gonna be found. Call my number if the scanner doesn't work." He explains to me and puts his suit jacket on, leaving the room and i feel my jaw drop.

Quickly snapping out of it, I get to work and begin to search for the files.

I look up at the highest shelf and that has file A34, which i take down and put it on the desk.

I look for B files and find B98, I quickly grab it and put it under the A file, soon enough 30 minutes pass and i'm still searching for the damn F files.

I scan the compartment and luckily find F11 and F36 somewhat close to each other, I put them under B and begin my search for file P34 which again takes me literally another hour. Only because the files are in such messes and cluttered in one file cabinet.

I look on the shelf next to it and scan luckily finding it, and placing them under the F files.

I look for the Q section and scan the columns labeled for 64, which spots my eye immediately. Pulling the file out as well i place it under F, and go to the R section where i luckily find R21, and grab it placing it underneath the rest of the files now in Alphabetical order.

After another hour goes by sorting the files on the shelf, from when I misplaced them, I walk to the scanner by his desk and printer, and I place the files there which results in no scanning. I try again endless times and it doesn't work, which causes me to groan exceptionally loud.

I grab my phone and dial his number, as it pops up i click, officially calling him after 3 rings and he picks up in a rush.

"Evelyn. You're lucky i finished the meetings. I'm coming up now." He hangs up before i can even question how he knew it was my number.

I groan once again and hear an elevator ding and footsteps finally walk into the office.

I turn and i'm face to face with Mr. Knight once again. I gulp and he looks towards the desk where the files are.

He takes them in his hand and looks at them exceptionally nodding, with a usual blank expression on his face.

"I'm gonna teach you how to work this scanner, you will be using it in the near future." He blankly says and I walk towards the desk, next to him.

"Okay." I say softly and he puts the files down underneath the scanner turning them on, as it scans one by one printing copies. I watch as he saves them individually and i watch curiously.

I take the copies and place them back in the folder when once again with my luck, his hand grazes mine again. I turn my face away and look back at him as he stares expressionless at the files, unbothered by what just happened.

I decide to continue watching him, slowly learning from his actions.

"I got it now. Thank you, sir." I nod and grab the copies placing them all in the folder which he takes from me putting them in the compartments.

"Mhm.." Mr. Knight says turning to look at me and i look around nervously.

His eyes are still on me like lasers and i can't help but blush slightly, unnoticeable though. At least i hope.

"Mr. Knight." I call innocently, and a bit scared and he looks down at me, until i see him look back into my eyes again, and my heart pounds nervously. I'm extremely intimidated to the max and my brain can no longer function.

Why is my little heart pounding so fast, i hate men and especially this one.

Chapter 3 Aurby

Aurby's POV

"If you lose those files, Aurby.. You will be fired." He warns me, and i feel him step back, as cold air hits me.

"I won't loose them. I'm not irresponsible, plus what's so important about these files anyway." I argue back, and I scan him as he walks to his desk and sits down, his gaze still through me. He looks at me cold, and tensely.

"That's none of your business. I'm just warning you unless I give you permission then do not touch them." He affirms and i gulp, tensely.

"Okay." I utter heaving a sigh on exhaustion and he glares through me again.

"Why do you sound so tired? You have no reason to be." He asks shockingly turning towards me.

"Sir, I'm not used to this." I answer correctly and he shakes his head looking back to his computer.

"You mean actually working? Please. Get back to work." He announces to me and i nod, walking to the file desk.

"There's more i need to look for?" I question, and he stands up again walking towards the cabinet, he opens it grabbing a folder and pulling a paper out.

"Find those files highlighted, within an hour. I have another meeting." He clarifies and I hang my head due to exhaustion.

"Okay sir." I breathe rapidly and take the paper highlighted, and he gives me a unsure look.

"I mean yes, sir." I catch myself quickly and correct myself, which in return he nods impressed.

"Good, if you understand then continue working. You only have an hour." He quickly states with a blank expression as he crosses his legs watching me curiously.

I turn away and begin to find each file he highlighted, while he works on his computer.

damn does this man ever smile? or does he even have a heart at least? I think to myself as i daze off.

Almost an hour passes and i turn away files in hand, facing his desk i walk over struggling and he looks up from whatever he was doing.

"Here, sir." I breath heavily due to the files, which have worn me out to the max.

"Mhm. Let me see." He orders and i pass them over to his hands, which he has no problem grabbing them.

I watch as he scans over them and reads through the files, I begin to doze off staring into his blue eyes which are clearly focused on the files and not me. His perfect brown hair which sits in the sun that is peeking through, and reflects the shine off it. I notice his captivating muscles which bulge through his suit jacket, as he writes on the files and my mouth opens small but still noticeable.

His perfect full lips which remain in a relaxed pout, I can't help but to feel overwhelmed and blush slightly to the thought of me thinking about him like this. It's completely unnecessary, he's not exactly the sweetest guy in the world. But the way he stared into my eyes fully took me.

"Good, you're finished now. I'll be at the meeting and you look for more files that I have highlighted here on this note." He packs more on me and I hang my head once again.

I counted my chickens before they hatched, thinking that he'd let me get off work this early.

I didn't realize how much work this would be. I'm so exhausted i feel like i can give up now, and save myself from my own death of starvation, exhaustion and insomnia.

"Yes, sir." I say instead and grab the note from his hands.

I watch him as he looks up gets up walking past me swiftly, as i smell his musky, aromatic scent. I am left dumbfounded, as my jaw hangs low.

I watch him walk away, not turning back once. I hang my head, yet I continue to watch him as he stands perfectly straight, hands in pocket as the elevator quickly opens for him.

He quietly disappears and I get back to work, which not to mention really took almost 3 hours and by the time I had finished getting those files sorted, It was 6pm.

The sun was finally sleeping, while the moon and stars were officially awake. I could see the whole city of New York, all from his office and it felt so quiet. I decide to go explore into his penthouse more to get answers on who this man really is.

I look around and see his suite which has perfect glass windows, and one door which leads to it all.

I walk around for what feels like minutes until I can really find his room, his whole penthouse is spotless, not an ounce of dust can be found on the furniture, and not a stain in view.I look around and see his suite which has perfect glass windows, and one door which leads to it all.

I walk around for what feels like minutes until I can really find his room, his whole penthouse is spotless, not an ounce of dust can be found on the furniture, and not a stain in view.

I walk into an all grey and off white room, and another expensive chandelier hangs down from the wall.

What's with him and Matthew?

Matthew is such a sad yet beautiful color.

I see a picture of Mr. Knight and a woman who resembles him a lot, i can tell he gets his blue eyes, perfectly shaped nose, and lips from this woman.

In the picture there is also a man who resembles him as well, but I can tell this man is his father and that woman is his mother.

He has a mixture of both sides, but he's definitely a momma's boy, by the way he's just leaning onto her and how only his arm is just resting on his father.

I look on the date taken and it reads December 20, 2015. My eyes scan the photo and I slowly read a piece of handwriting that was left on the back of this picture.

"This is the last picture I have with you, You were/ are my world mom. I love you." I read as my jaw hangs.

I feel my heart get a sharp pain, and i put the picture back into it's place.

My eyes spot a necklace on his dresser which reads 'Gebrielle Knight. February 4, 1974- January 20, 2016.' Inside the heart shaped necklace was a picture of him and his mother, and he was clinging onto her again with a wide smile. A real smile too.

I decide to stop snooping around and walk out before one thing catches my eye. A health magazine.

"Causes of natural deaths." I tilt my head confused and shake it off, walking out of his room and back out to his office.

I hear someone walking towards the hallway I am about to turn on, and I quickly turn the other way in route to his office.

I quickly walk at a fast pace back to his office where i try to play natural, and soon enough my wrist is grabbed quickly.

My heart felt like it was going to stop, and i feel Mr. Knight's gaze on me once again.

"What were you doing just now?" He questions me, already knowing the answer.

"Nothing i was looking for the restroom." I make up quickly and he doesn't move an inch away from my face.

"Don't lie to me. What'd you see?" he questions grabbing my hands moving me out of the dark hallway into the light.

At this point our lips are almost touching and i feel nothing but a dark tension which is slowly captivating, taking over my body one by one.

"I just finished work, and was looking for the restroom." I defend myself and Mr. Knight turns his head confused.

"Bullshit...I'll ask one more time. Did you go into my room." He stares me down into my eyes and i look away nervously.

"Yes." I confirm and his eyes glare sharply at me.

"What interested you in going there." He orders an answer, and I look away.

"I thought the restroom was there, and I was curious." I hang my head and feel his body heat against me, trapping me.

"Well curiosity killed the cat." He warns and let's me go, turning his back towards me walking to his room.

I hear a door slam shut and i look down, feeling as i invaded his privacy.. In which i did, and i couldn't help but feel so bad for him.

Maybe this is why he's so cold, not because he was born like this, but because he lost a parent.

He didn't have any one to look up to besides his dad who also slipped away once his mom passed away.

I shake my head and walk down the elevator, in which it opens right for me and I press the lobby floor.

In which it takes me home. Embarrassed.

..............

I'm in my studio apartment sitting on my couch hanging my head and of course Clara is around at the worse time where i feel like a mess.

She sits across from me crossing her arms as she tilts her head confused, I look up releasing a sigh.

"It's okay, i'm sure there's another job you'll be able to find." She remarks trying to comfort me and i glare at her.

"Clara. i wasn't fired." i roll my eyes looking back down, uncomfortable.

"Hm, what's wrong then?" she asks me confusedly and i fidget in my lap.

"Nothing." I shake my head and she glares at me again.

"No. What is it."

"Okay fine. I went through his penthouse and i saw a lot of pictures of his mom who passed away. He found out." I hang my head disappointed.

"He must think you're damn eye candy then, if I was him you would've been fired. Just saying, apologize it's not hard." She assures me and i nod softly, still a bit down.

"Okay, yeah i'll apologize and work harder." I sigh and she shakes her head.

"You need to eat, let's go get food and when we come back you can go to sleep." Clara confirms to me and i nod tiredly.

"Can't we have it delivered here?" I ask lazily calling out to her as I hang my arm off my couch as i lay down comfortably.

"Surprise me." I shrug closing my eyes, resting.

"Fine. What do you wanna eat?" She questions me pulling her phone out.

"Done. I'm using my card so don't worry." She tells me as she puts her phone down.

Clara gives me a nod and i watch her scroll through her phone.

"You know if you don't have a good day then i'll be here to cheer you up." Stella encourages and i frown.

"Thank you." I say sincerely due to her sweet act today.

"I was having a good day.. Then i screwed it all up. He probably hates me now." I say pessimistic.

"If you don't like him, then why do you care if he likes you or doesn't like you and if you messed up." She interrogates me and I shake my head.

Stella clicks her tongue glaring at me suspiciously.

"I can get fired, Why else?" I say with a tone of sarcasm and Clara looks down.

"He would've fired you the moment you were in his room, at least I would've. I think you have a crush on him, because why else would you care what he thinks of you." Clara smirks and i shake my head.

"No, i don't. You have the worst timing just shut it." I hush her before I get annoyed.

"Just apologize. In a way you never have before." She winks at me,

"Why are you so annoying." I roll my eyes, and she frowns.

"Sorry." She looks down and i look back up at her apologetically.

"I'm sorry i'm just upset." I sigh and she comforts me.

"I know, it's alright." She walks over to the couch and rubs my back.

I slowly come to sense of mind. Why in the hell am i sad. I don't even like the man. Although.... you're so good looking and you are incredibly smart. but you're too intimidating and cold. I have to not like you. I envy you.

I hear my door bell ring and Stella gets up running to the door, and i hear her conversation with what sounds like the delivery man.

"That was fast, thank you." She exclaims and i hear her shut the door, walking back into the kitchen with a bag of food.

"What'd you get?" I ask curiously sitting up, as my stomach growls.

"I got Chinese food." She says opening food containers and bringing them to the couches.

Walking back into the living room, she hands me water and i smile softly at her.

She walks back into the kitchen and pours me and her glasses of water.

"Thanks Clara." i express to her as i push food into my mouth hungrily.

I can't help but eat quickly due to my exhaustion and how much food i haven't consumed in the whole day.

"Slow down!" Clara warns to me which results in me giving her the glare.

The glare is a warning sign meaning do not mess with me when i am eating food, especially when i have not ate food the whole day. it's even worse when i had a shitty day.

She surrenders and hides her face as she continues to eat. I also stuff my face unable to comprehend how fast i'm actually eating. Apparently it's like I haven't eaten in years. It sure feels like it.

I decide to stop eating since i feel myself getting full and i decide maybe it's time for a nights rest.

"I'm gonna sleep, come to the bed whenever you're gonna go to sleep. don't wake me up please!" I explain and put my food down, getting up from the couch and walking into my bedroom.

As I walk in i see it's lit up with my neon lights which i supposed, Stella had turned on before i got home.

I get into my pajamas and get a nights rest before i have to work in the morning, which i'm really dreading.

I can't help but feel bad although i think he deserves to be mad at me.. but why am i even stressing this. he's a grown man. He'll be okay.

I don't even like this man, he's a jerk and he's cold towards everyone. he has no heart. I soon fall asleep remembering Mr. Knight in my mind.

I wake up sleepily, and exhausted. I pull myself out of bed and walk to the bathroom where i shower, brush my teeth and hair and finish my morning needs before i start getting ready for work.

I continue with putting makeup on, and getting my usual work outfit on.

I fix myself up, looking presentable and confident for once and I grab my keys and phone walking out my apartment as Stella is sound asleep.

I leave the house around 10am, and get down to the lobby quickly running behind schedule. By the time I get to my car, i hop in quickly and beat traffic taking about 10 minutes to arrive at the workplace. I get out locking my car and walk into the building in a hurry.

I pass the desk rushing up into the elevators where one opens quickly. I press floor 36, and wait impatiently as we go up higher onto the floors.

Almost a minute later, I finally arrive in putting my key card in and the elevator door opens before ascending down. I walk into the penthouse where i hear a man talking to Mr. Knight.

"Why'd you hire someone as your assistant so quickly?" I hear the man say as i wait by the office door, making sure i am not in sight of their view.

"Because. You don't need to ask me questions. Don't be upset that dad chose me to run this business." I hear Mr. Knight remark and i shake my head.

What does he mean, their dad? Is that his brother he's speaking to?

"You're not running it correctly." The man expresses to him and i gasp slightly.

"Go run your own business and run it correctly to your choice then." Mr. Knight says to the man who i think might possibly be his brother.

"This was supposed to be my business, then dad decided to give it to you for no apparent reason." He replies and I hang my jaw surprised.

"Sara, leave. I have work to do." I hear Mr. Knight say rudely and footsteps begin coming my way. I see a tall, lean but muscular man walking towards me and I look up at him curiously.

I watch him look straight up at nothing, not paying attention to me at all. I shrug and walk into Mr. Knight's office, quietly.

"Mm." He looks back down acknowledging me poorly, as i hang my head.

"Good morning, sir." I say quietly and he looks up from his papers.

"I wanted to say sorry, I feel bad I invaded your privacy. I'm sorry." I hang my head and hear footsteps coming towards me.

"Alright then that's cool too." I nod unsure.

"I don't need your apology." He says and my eyes bulge.

This time my blood is boiling, and I feel a fire ignite inside of me.

"If you have something to say then say it." He remarks to me

"...Why are you so miserable. Can't you say it's okay and get over it." I roll my eyes unable to take another peep from him.

"Do you want this job? If i hear a comment so stupid like that one once more and if I ever find out you go through my room again. I will fire you instantly. Do you understand?" He says putting a hand on his chin

I don't respond due to how angry i am, I want to beat this man up. Although i would probably lose.

"Do you understand?" I hear him say again as a smile comes across my face, accidentally.

"What are you smiling about. I asked you a question. Do you know how to talk?" He remarks to me, as i finally start getting in his head.

"Of course, I know how to talk i'm not an idiot." I bite back harshly and he tilts his head, not believing my words.

"You... you're just like every woman. All materialistic, and acquisitive." He remarks to me and this has now turned extremely personal.

"You don't know jack shit about me." I shake my head.

Although he may look exceptionally hot, he talked down on me.

"You have a terrible attitude." Mr. Knight shakes his head

"I'm not gonna stop doing what I do just cause you don't like it." I stand away, avoiding him.

He looks in my eyes and i just stand there stunned.

"You..." He backs up glaring at me coldly and i stand there dumbfounded as he walks to his desk sitting as if nothing just happened.

My heart is pounding by now, and I feel as If I can get a heart palpitation at any given second right now.

Indeed i'm sure i do have one.
