"It was a regular day like any other when I got into the Hardwood Forest. However, staring at the terribly wounded human with a deadly poison almost engulfing his heart, I was utterly confused. I couldn't help wondering, " how did he get here?" "Oh yeah! How do I know his heart was almost engulfed with poison? The answer is simple. I saw through his organs." Gosh! Do I regret saving him? I don't even know, but one thing I know is that I want to be with the seemingly dangerous man, even though I feel strongly that it's best to avoid him." ... More than five centuries ago, Annabel the elf princess, Celine the vampire princess, and Monella the werewolf royal joined their powers to stop the century-long rivalry among their kind. They aimed to unite all beings within the realm. One among them was to wield that unimaginable power but they were all killed before the transference. Hidden in an inconspicuous pendant on Monella's neck, she kept it away, wishing it finds its rightful owner.

Chapter 1 Encounter At The Hardwood Forest

Lolita bade farewell to her grandmother as she promised to be back early for dinner. Fully clad in all-black attire, a black top with a matching black jacket, accompanied by her black trousers, she was ready for the usual.

There is no way her backpack was not black. Oh yeah! Did I mention that her motorbike was also black? Guess I just did.

Lolita had no way of explaining her feelings at the moment because she is accustomed to doing such random things that surprisingly lead to very positive outcomes.

At the moment, she only feels a certain urgency like never before, to rush to the Hardwood forest without the least bit of knowledge of what to expect out there.

Due to the sense of crisis, Lollita sped above the speed limit on her unbranded custom-made motorbike. A wolf needs saving, so she thought.

There was no patrol team on the road leading to the Hardwood forest as no patrol vehicles ever bothered coming towards the area around Hardwood forest unless on request.

Moreover, the town folks wouldn't dare go towards the forest after Sunset. It isn't fun to court death after all.

Actually, there is one resident of Smallville who dares, not only at Sunset but at any other time of the day, even at midnight.

Lolita, in her all-black attire, could not be made out but still garnered enough attention from anyone she passes along the road.

There were a lot of curses thrown at her as she sprayed dust everywhere she passes. As residents had never seen such a hooded person in black before, they could only conclude that the rider was just passing through town and was rushing to be as far away from Hardwood forest as possible.

Lolita entered the forest and felt as though a compass and a map were directing her steps. At the final turn the motorbike could cross, she suddenly killed the engine and headed deeper into the forest on foot. She did not give a damn about any lurking animals as she has never been at their mercy. If anything, all other animals are at her mercy.

As a result, the wolves, lions, tigers, and all other dangerous creatures in Hardwood forest avoid her path whenever she arrives.

Although the friendly wolves still get close to her, no other animal could stand her sight. She never understood why all the wolves in Hardwood forest love her so much that they call for her when they are in distress.

She has never really stopped to think about how she communicates with them in the first place. Why does it come so naturally? It's as if she is one with the wolves, but she's human. Strange! Isn't it?

It would be awesome to see her expression when she finally finds out the real reason she seems to have a certain affinity with the wolves

Lolita was mistaken enough to think that, this was going to be just like any other trip into the forest whereby she saves a wounded wolf or rescues one from a hunter's trap and returns home after treating the poor animal. Unfortunately, she was bound to be disappointed this time around.

There was no sound when she stepped into the forest as it was eerily quiet. There was no howling of wolves as expected, no chirping of birds, and even the owls were nowhere to be seen either.

The only noticeable sound was the hushed chirping of crickets. Could someone tell her what is going on right now? Even the crickets are being careful.

Lolita couldn't help muttering "what the heck is going on here?"

The eerie silence of the forest did not affect Lolita in the slightest. As a child, she had never been afraid of the dark like other kids her age.

No one could tell what she feared and not even Lolita herself could place her hands on anything she ever feared. If even it had any effect, then it was how her curiosity got piqued, just like now.

As she went further and further into the forest, Lolita couldn't help checking her time and realized it was thirty minutes past hour seven. This means that she had been walking for thirty whole minutes as she started her one-hour ride to the forest a few minutes after 6:00 pm.

What was baffling is that there was no mention of rainfall in the weather report for the day, but entering the forest this day seemed like Lolita had entered a completely different world altogether as the clouds started gathering the moment she for into the forest.

This was accompanied by lightning and thunder, a clear indication that, rainfall was imminent and a heavy one at that.

Suddenly, the low whimper of what seemed to be a human being took her out of her thoughts.

The rain had started drizzling about now but she could still hear the indistinct chattering of a group of people and kept wondering to herself if they were friend or foe.

Lolita would be shocked if she even heard as much as a chatter, considering how far away the group was from her.

As she got further into the forest, there lay a wounded teenager about three meters away from her.

The person, or what's left of him was lying in a pool of his own blood with his eyes tightly shut. Stab wounds could be seen in many parts of his body and Lolita suddenly realized that he was even bleeding from all his openings

Anybody who sees a young man in a pool of his blood in a forest could either run or call for help, but not Lolita "how are you still alive?" Said, Lolita.

She used the hood of her jacket to cover her head to avoid her hair getting wet and as a result, the injured teenager could not see her face. But there was no mistaking her smell, she was definitely a werewolf like him, so he thought. "So the chickens actually sent a woman to finish the job huh!"

Approaching the almost lifeless human, she didn't pause in the slightest when she said "poison" and this made her double her steps and treat him faster than intended. She first stuffed a pill into his mouth and tore his shirt to use as bandages.

If she had unlocked the ability to read thoughts at the moment, Lolita would have been shocked and silent by the question on Calvin Greene's mind. "how did she recognize the poison just by glancing at him?"

After treating the victim, Lolita said "I can't leave you at the mercy of the weather can I?" She then got closer to him and said "I live not far from here. Please feel free to call your family when we get home okay!"

The petite Lolita carried a fully grown human being almost twice her weight on her back and walked the same distance back to her motorbike.

She then gently supported the human baggage behind her with a synthetic wire strapped securely around both of them and zoomed off on her motorbike.

The two narrowly missed an angry Zack who returned to finish what they started. "Why wait for him to bleed out and die when you could end him once and for all?"

As the saying goes, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Saving him was like any other wounded wolf, but this one came with a baggage of trouble and dead bodies in his path.

Lolita will later regret inviting trouble into her home, but unknown to her, this meeting is also the start of great awakenings in her life.

Chapter 2 Men In Black!

It was already past nine o'clock p.m when Lolita made it back home with her human baggage strapped to her back on her motorcycle.

Thankfully, the whole town was indoors, as everyone was yet to recover from a bear attack on some residents which occurred the previous night.

As a result, everyone went indoors immediately after the sunset.

It was this same reason that Lolita met many town folks along her way to the Hardwood forest.

Smallville as the name sounds may seem like a small town, however, it is not so.

It is a town of about fifty-thousand residents.

The town may not be as busy or fancy as the big towns, but it is not so lacking in the things all the big towns could boast of.

There are a number of hospitals, schools from all levels to tertiary, banks, various recreational centers, a police station, and many more.

The incident that got the residents all worked up, occurred the previous day, when a wounded bear rushed into the town, vandalized properties, and injured two police officers who took it upon themselves to help the residents to safety.

It took the timely intervention of an unknown archer who shot the bear with a tranquilizer to knock it out. Calm was restored, but fear still exists in the hearts of everyone.

Luckily for Lolita, the incident saved her from a lot of explaining if she had happened to be spotted by her neighbors.

Lolita alighted from her motorcycle and carried Gavin to her room, while he was still strapped to her back.

Laying him on the bed, Lolita removed the improvised bandage and cleaned his whole body with warm water, and then proceeded to dress his wounds.

Afterwards, Lolita stitched every wound with so much precision that Gavin kept wondering where this she-wolf came from.

She couldn't be a doctor, as she looked no less than seventeen. What was she doing in the woods at that time anyway?

After everything was done, Lolita used a proper bandage this time around and gave him more drugs for the poison.

She gave Gavin drugs that no one could recognize, as they were all the creations that she normally uses for the wounded wolves of Hardwood forest.

"Alright, stranger! I know you can hear me...So I've pretty much-taken care of your poison, but when you get back..." She then listed a few herbs for him to brew so that the after-effects of the poison could be cleansed from his system.

Afterwards, Lolita waited patiently for Gavin's help to arrive after feeding him a cup of water, albeit with so much difficulty.

As she sat down to take a breather, Lolita felt so thankful that her grandmother was currently sleeping in her room downstairs.

There would be no need for any long explanations because she didn't even know the details herself, nor did she bother to know.

After all, curiosity killed the cat.

Regaining a bit of strength, Gavin trailed his weak vision at the petite figure before him.

She is undoubtedly the most beautiful she-wolf he had ever seen thus far.

Her dark waterlike hair flows freely beyond her shoulders, with beautiful green eyes and a pointed nose that adorns her beautiful face.

The most noticeable feature that Gavin had to use a lot of self-control to avert his eyes, happens to be her beautiful pink lips.

He started thinking about certain things that no sick person should ever dream of.

Everything about her looks so natural, no thick make-up, no lipstick, absolutely nothing artificial.

The lolly before him was such a beauty that Gavin felt he needed to make her his, as soon as possible.

He was suddenly possessive of the savior whose name he doesn't even know yet.

There was complete silence in the room, but the two individuals were lost in a trail of their own thoughts.

Suddenly, Lolita felt a burning gaze on her and lifted her head from her phone to hold the gaze of the injured young man she had just saved.

She felt relief wash over her whole body the moment her eyes met his deep blue eyes.

With a beautiful smile adorning her pretty face, Lolita says "glad you came around! I'm Lolly by the way"

Gavin stared at her for a brief moment before saying "Gavin!...Thank you"

Lolita stood to one side and said "My pleasure Gavin...I guess your escort is almost here!"

She said so because she could hear people approaching from afar, and so could Gavin.

Before they could knock on the door, Lolita opened it to meet a group of men dressed in all black, with some weird masks covering their faces.

She looked them up and down when the leader suddenly stepped forward and spoke politely, "Hello! I'm Wesley! We are friends of Gavin's.

Gavin mind-linked Wesley before his arrival, and he was sure his boss was lying somewhere in the room.

However, the only thing separating them is a harmless petite she-wolf who looks extremely weak, but he knows better than to defy the Alpha by forcing his way in.

Lolita gave Wesley a once over before stepping aside with a nod while saying, "the rest of you may want to wait out here."

She wouldn't want the room packed with too many black-clothed men who could end up scaring her grandmother shitless.

Wesley walked in with Ortiz, and Lolita closed the door behind them.

"Come with me," says Lolita, as she leads the way to her room.

When Wesley and Ortiz saw their Alpha wrapped in bandages all over his body, they halted their steps and turned to look at Lolita at the same time.

Then, with a deep bow, the two said "thank you, miss! The Dark-Dawn pack will forever remember your kindness"

"What...Dark-Dawn...pack?" Lolita looked between the two and Gavin with questioning eyes, but no one spoke afterwards.

Wesley and Ortiz took in a deep gulp as they realized they just spoke out of turn.

Both looked worriedly at Alpha Gavin and were confused about what met their eyes. "Is Alpha Gavin really smiling?"

Maybe they saw wrong!

Chapter 3 Grandmother!

Realizing the gazes of the two on him, Gavin schools his expression and gave them a furious glare that makes them scared silly.

Lolita remained silent and feigned oblivion to their small interactions. However, she urged them to leave quickly with her eyes.

Gavin realized that they had overstayed their welcome and needed to leave immediately.

They had to leave so Lolly and her grandmother could live. The enemy is still lurking out there after all.

The duo dressed their Alpha and helped him down the bed.

"We'll take our leave now miss...we are very grateful" They still bowed to Lolita as they made their way out the door.

As Gavin reached the door, he turned towards Lolita and says once again "thank you" before stuffing an inconspicuous-looking wolf pendant into her hands and leaving without looking back.

Lolita was distracted by the series of actions because as Gavin approached her, she felt a disturbance in her whole body but couldn't quite place her hands on what it was.

She was so distracted by her feelings that, she didn't even realize Gavin was giving her anything until she felt the cold pendant in her hands.

When Lolita came to, Gavin and his group were already gone.

As she was distracted at that moment, she missed Gavin giving a command to one of the wolves in his group "keep them safe" and this little distraction would become the basis for a long time of misunderstandings and hatred.

Lolita felt so light and peaceful, the moment her hands came into contact with the pendant.

If she had fought with anyone at the moment, she would have realized that her physical strength had increased tremendously.

The wolf pendant had the power to unlock the werewolf abilities locked away in her body.

For as long as Lolita keeps the pendant, she gets to unlock more abilities, and then if she ever visits Dark-Dawn Avenue, she gets to go anywhere, including the base of the Dark-Dawn pack.

Upon returning to her room, Lolita's heightened sense of smell picked up the faint smell of rosewood as well as a very strong smell of blood.

Lolita needs not to be told about where the smell is coming from.

She parked all the bloodstained sheets and everything that needed to be burnt before moving towards the river, a few meters away from her house.

This was not without opening her windows to allow for fresh air to clear the smell of blood in the room.

With a fresh change of clothes in her bag, she arrives at the river and first burns the blood-stained bed sheets before jumping into the river for a cold swim.

Lolita reckoned that she needed a cold swim at the moment.

She sat by the riverside and munched on some biscuits with soda, while the earlier events played before her eyes.

Suddenly, she was startled to realize that, Gavin and his group had even taken his blood-stained shirt with them.

"What the heck is Dark-Dawn pack anyway?"

It seemed to her like they were clearing their tracks.

She could only hope that she doesn't see them ever again because it is obvious they are trouble.

Finally feeling tiredness wash over her, Lolita stood to her feet and made her way back home in unhurried steps.

She wanted her room to have the fresh smell of the night breeze.

Her overly-sensitive nose couldn't take it if the smell of blood still lingers in the room.

Due to her heightened sense of smell, Lolita always kept her surroundings clean. She couldn't stand any stench, unpleasant smell, or odour.

The most sensitive nose of a werewolf had been unlocked by the joining of the wolf pendant with her own pendant, not that she was aware though.

Lolita could only hope to get home to a room filled with fresh air, so she gets a very good night's sleep before traveling to the city with her grandmother in the morning.

There are many things for them to do and many places to see, she couldn't help feeling giddy.

Throughout the day, Lolita kept psyching her grandmother up about possibly moving to the city of Greenville with her, as she had secured admission into the best university in the whole of Greenville.

She wouldn't want to be so far away from her grandmother, even if it's only a few hours' drive away from Smallville.

Her grandmother, however, has never left Smallville for the past sixteen years, even when the opportunity presented itself to do so. Not even once!

She had never mentioned it, but Lolita reckoned that her grandmother had been eagerly waiting for someone's arrival. Maybe it's her mother she's been waiting for all along.

The ten-minute journey ended up being twenty, and it could have been more had she not seen a huge cloud of smoke above her house.

Lolita was scared of what was before her and merely halted her steps for a moment, before she shouted at the top of her voice, "grandmother!" before dashing towards the burning house.

The neighbor, who had already made contact with the fire department, rushed to stop Lolita who was rushing towards the house engulfed in flames.

From nowhere, her friend Xavier, rushed to her side and pinned her down, to prevent her from harming herself.

While Lolita was being pressed to the ground, she was out of her mind.

She couldn't explain why, but she suddenly saw her grandmother's final moments as she let out an ear-piercing scream of agony, before giving up the ghost.

That scene made her lose herself because she knew it was all over.

Her grandmother was dead, burnt to ashes in her own room.

Lolita remained motionless as the shock overwhelmed her, and as her unfocused gaze roamed the surrounding, she suddenly spotted a man in black, with a black mask covering his face.

"You've got to be kidding me... No... No... No... This is not happening... No... This is just not happening... It can't be you!" Lolita kept her gaze fixed on whatever was hiding in the woods. Maybe it was a who.
