The night sky was dark and gloomy yet the city underneath is glowing with lights and laughter but neither of it can be appreciated by the young girl whose mind and eyes are far away. The light wind ruffled her hair, soothingly yet her thoughts remain aggravating.
She held the railing in a death grip, making her green veins visible as if she was battling within herself because of various uncertain thoughts revolving around her head. The dim lightening from the moon shone on her journal resting on the recliner chair behind her, making the pages glow as they rustled due to the calm yet powerful breeze. The beautiful calmness around her was lost, only the world of her thoughts surrounded her and suddenly a knock startled her, bringing her soul back to the balcony of her bedroom.
She picked up her book and swiftly ran inside to open the door but only after hiding that journal under the pillow not because she feared that whoever the intruder came might check it out but she rather be careful. Some secrets are best hidden even from friends and family.
"What? Are you kidding me?"
A loud voice reached Fiona's ears as soon as the door was pulled open. Firstly, a red-haired girl entered, assessing her look sternly, followed by a grossly kissing couple and a nicely built young man glued to his mobile, chatting probably.
"The agreed time is eight Fiona and it's already quarter past eight yet you are still in your pyjamas"
Darla scolded Fiona as the latter stood frustratingly calm giving I-got-it-under-control look which further irritated the redhead. Fiona was so engrossed in her thoughts that she didn't take notice of the time but saying sorry was not her thing and agreeing to her mistake will only get her more scolding thus it's better to remain collected.
They all planned a small graduation party as a token of celebration for their successfully completed high school journey. When it comes to prom, these five buddies think it as a lame and totally sucking party thus decided to do something daring and adventurous.
Fiona suggested a party at the night club which is restricted to teens under eighteen. As they all wanted to take up this challenge, nobody was against it. Thus, the gathering happened in glittery short dresses and button-down shirts.
All heads turned to Fiona in a questioning manner after hearing Darla's outburst.
"Darla! Calm down, I am waiting for you to select my dress that's it." Fiona grinned, revealing her pearly teeth and charming eyes.
Darla looked at her suspiciously, dropping her bag on the sofa.
"Who are you?" She questioned, nudging her head up and down, while folding her hands.
Fiona rolled her eyes, walking towards her closet at the other end of the room. She never let anyone not even her parents touch her stuff since childhood no matter what so Darla's somewhat over reaction is clearly justified.
That's how much possessive she is about her things. Wanting to have control over everything around her is one thing she desperately clung to since that unfortunate incident happened nearly a decade ago. She was so young and can't do anything then but now she grew up and she never wants to be that helpless again.
"Never mind. Can you all wait for me downstairs? I will be there in five."
Thiago, the only single guy in the room was the first to leave, whistling loudly while doing a little happy dance saying he just made the poor girl he met and made acquaintance a few days ago, agree to be his date tonight. Fiona shook her head in disbelief staring at his back.
A street dog is better than him as it at least barks at the people passing by but this man ignores even his friends unless they got a company of other girls. Either that or he will be busy flirting with random girls in those dating apps, looking for no-strings-attached date nights. He got some muscles and those dark eyes, straight nose and charmingly seductive smile will never get him a 'no' from the girls he wanted.
She then turned towards the still kissing couple, Neil and Gwen, thinking they might've stopped after hearing her unsaid request to vacate the room but no, and she shouldn't have dared to see.
Fiona quickly closed her eyes, nibbling hard on her bottom lip while fisting her right hand at the side and held her churning stomach with the left, trying to calm herself from puking by taking deep breaths.
"Darla, take them out" requested Fiona ever so politely while walking towards her balcony for fresh air and a view that didn't involve lips licking.
"I feel terrible" She yelled scaring the redhead.
Darla knew Fiona despises witnessing lip kisses. It was something only she observed from their movie-get-togethers where she would hide her face behind a pillow whenever she anticipated the protagonists to kiss or every time, she took a detour just to avoid the kissing couple lurking in every corner of their campus during High school.
But she had no problem watching other intimate scenes, Darla observed that too when they sneakily watched a porn video a few months back for example. It was Fiona's idea. Darla was so confused and also concerned because at one time Fiona nearly puked on her notes just because she saw Ron and Olivia downright started making out in their classroom, sucking each other head's off.
When Darla asked her about this unusual reaction, Fiona was surprised at first thinking how did she knew? But later realised her disgust was not quite discreet. She just nodded, accepting but didn't give any details except "I don't know but that's how I feel."
All friends would hang out whenever possible after classes or during weekends but mostly it's always Fiona, Darla and Neil as they were friends since middle school, Gwen and Thiago joined the trio later in High school. So, Darla and Neil were more into noticing little things, caring and understanding Fiona better, so it was only them who knew this dislike of hers.
Neil talked to her about this a few times, saying she should get used to it and avoiding it would be impossible. He was a bit more attentive towards her every time the little gang was out together, making sure nobody touches her as she hates physical contact when walking in crowded places, opening the car door of her side, handing her tissues while waiting to wipe her mouth. So caring.
But after he started dating Gwen in High school, Fiona didn't want him to keep distance even with his girlfriend just for her sake so she lied to him saying she was not so affected by kissing anymore as she was before. He didn't believe it at first but later...the boy in love couldn't care less.
"I'll come knocking again after five minutes so make sure to be ready by then."
Darla warned Fiona before dragging Gwen and Neil out and down to the living room where they can wait for her. Fiona ran her hands through her brunette hair, inhaling and exhaling deeply, making sure she was okay.
She sighed loudly thinking how many such scenes she has to witness tonight. She still can't tolerate watching them but learnt how to control her senses and not puke every time it happened. She can do it. She did it till now except that one time in class where she almost lost it but later, she controlled it well. Hid it well except Darla found out but her other friends couldn't so it's a half win. That's better actually less knowledge means less questioning.
Without wasting another second Fiona started dressing up for the party. While tying her hair she gave a glance at her unfinished painting on the canvas beside dressing table making a mental note about it before quickly adjusting her dress and making sure her hair and everything was in place and left downstairs
"Ah! My beautiful daughter!"
Logan Wilson stood up from the couch, smiling on seeing his daughter descending the stairs and briskly reached the end of steps to extend his hand which Fiona gladly took, returning his smile.
She wore an open back, mini black bodycon dress which reached her mid thighs, screaming hot and her hair was styled into a sleek ponytail leaving a few strands to hang on either side that reach down to her chin.
She held a gold clutch bag with her right hand while a beautiful diamond bracelet adorned her left hand, highlighting her slim wrist. Her lips were bare without any lipstick, bringing out the natural glow of her rosy lips.
"Dad!"
She gave him a hug and then turned to face her friends, just in time to see Victoria coming from their bedroom bearing a gift box. She gasped looking at her daughter.
"Oh my!! You look stunning."
Gwen who sat beside her boyfriend stood up pouting her swollen lips. Darla and Neil shared a look shaking their heads meanwhile Thiago was eager to leave for the party as that girl named Ria was waiting for him already.
"Come on Victoria, we all knew that your daughter is as beautiful as the evening sky but we dressed pretty as well. Look at us too."
Gwen's somewhat-funny-but-induced-with-jealousy comment brought smiles to everyone present as they took only the funny part to heart because they knew Gwen. She is Gwen.
Victoria gave the gift box to Fiona only after hugging her daughter to her heart's content. She opened the box excitedly to see a rose gold neck piece with a diamond pendant that matched with her bracelet.
"Aww...Thanks mom. I loved it"
Fiona kissed her mother's cheeks, beaming with happiness. She saw this duo set when they went for shopping a week ago as she didn't want to exceed the budget, compromising on the necklace felt right.
They weren't too poor to afford both pieces but just couple of months ago Logan bought her a sapphire three piece diamond studded jewellery and she didn't want to be too indulged as she has to leave soon. For college.
"You are making us sick by showing off"
Darla said dramatically by waving her hands, giving a side eye to the trio. They all grew up watching the couple's love and care for Fiona. It's to say that she is their only world and entire universe of their lives and for Darla it became a habit to bicker with Wilson's every time. She is their family too.
"Enough guys. Let's go. See you soon, dad." And then she faced Victoria "Thanks for the gift mom. It's lovely" she said with a kiss on her cheek.
After that Fiona and her friends briskly reached to where the jeep was readily parked at the front by the impatient Thiago just a minute ago and hopped into it except Fiona who raised her eyebrows at the red jeep.
"That's cool!"
It's time to hit the 'Night World' - the famous and very dangerous night club in the whole Kandon where underworld mafia business dealings would take place and people from every clan can be seen there either closing an illegal deal or spying on other clan, trying to sneak some or other details about shipping or attacks planned or just partying.
Technically, they weren't allowed even to enter the club premises but Thiago's brother works as a bouncer in that club, so he helped them to sneak when promised in return to set him up with one of their ex-classmates on whom his brother has a secret crush since he first saw her when he gave Thee a ride to school, a month ago.
And, that's the adventure they decided to do tonight, for their graduation party, trying to be an adult before becoming an actual adult, sneaking into a club where they don't belong, party hard in the face of danger and return home unscathed. Sounds fun!?
The top floor was completely reserved to the common people whereas, the basement is for mafia people. When Fiona first proposed this night club, her friends were shocked yet excited and immediately agreed. Is there any record where teenagers said no to adrenaline rush and danger? Yeah! May be some good kids but these were not.
As soon as the car was parked, Neil was the first to jump down the jeep
"This is it. Our heaven for tonight" he said, looking at the building, lit with red lights giving dangerous vibes. The girls were a little scared now to get down because all the people stood outside were totally scary covered with tattoos and piercings. Few even had scars as to remind people what they are capable of. But isn't it far too late to be scared?
"What's with those looks cowards? Get down already!"
Thiago said impatiently, after killing the engine, while looking at the three girls, who sat like they just saw a dinosaur and are going to get killed by it any second now. Fiona was the first to climb down, bracing herself and encouraged Darla and Gwen to get down too.
Neil hugged his girlfriend while whispering "I am here babe. Just relax" in her ear and planted a kiss on her cheek to ease her racing heart. She smiled slowly, nodding her head, inhaling sharply.
The five of them made their way towards the entrance. The bouncer, Thiago's brother stopped them to check the entrance pass. Thiago rolled his eyes at him but Neil hit his shoulder, reminding him to behave, while pulling the passes out of his pocket.
If he let them in without checking, then that would rise suspicion and of course it's a huge risk. One wrong move, they'll end up grounded and worse, Thiago's brother will lose his job.
Just when Neil was about to handover the pass, they heard a shrieking whistle and a few howls from behind. The five of them turned around to see a group of men walking towards them.
"Let them in, Fred"
The guy in the front, clutching a cigarette with his right hand and stroking his overgrown beard with the left, ordered the bouncer, staring at Fiona with his lustful eyes. The smug look on his face made her face twist with anger and disgust.
Fiona turned her face away, shrugging her shoulders and gestured Neil to get over with it fast, ignoring the scoundrel behind her. After confirming their identity and ticket, Fred gave them access to enter the club.
"How dare that bitch to turn a blind eye towards me?"
Levi shouted while glaring at the backs of those teens who just entered the club and followed suit, tossing the cigarette butt aside, swearing under his breath.
"Levi! We should go to the basement."
Finn stopped Levi before he can head towards the top floor, to remind him why they were here in the first place and that is to negotiate a deal with the arms dealer. They shouldn't make any mistakes because he didn't want to even wonder what will happen if they fail.
"Only after dealing with that chick."
He was a complete jerk and Finn knew it already thus complained to his master and also, Levi joined the clan only a few months ago yet he was assigned for such an important task. It's impossible to understand Master's actions.
Levi does his work correctly but his weakness is his lust. Whenever he saw a beautiful woman, he had to bed them either by hook or crook and now he had set his eyes on that black dress girl. That's how he lived before joining the clan and if he thinks that he could live like his old self even after being a member of the clan, he's a fool.
Thiago met Ria who is waiting for them at the bar counter. He introduced her to his friends and ordered drinks to everyone. They sat at a corner table which was reserved for them ahead to celebrate.
The girls were gossiping about other girls swaying on the dance floor, being dictated by music and the mood. The feeling of letting oneself go and just dance our hearts out thinking everything will be fine and just smiling. Such a beautiful feeling. Meanwhile Neil just sat there gazing at his girlfriend as she was chatting with the girls because he can't talk to Thiago as he was busy flirting with Ria.
Just then the drinks arrived and the six of them held their glasses together, "To our graduation" and squealed before downing them. Fiona shook her head as the cold liquid burned down her throat.
"That was awesome"
Everyone agreed except Fiona as she didn't like that burning feeling after drinking. She always prefers wine but today she wanted to try vodka as Thiago suggested but no it's not for her. She was a wine girl since she was fifteen and will always be a wine girlie.
She put her glass down shaking her head.
"I can't guys. I want wine"
"What? No way. This is our party, Fiona. We should get wasted with the booze"
Gwen complained placing the drink in Fiona's hand.
"NO! I am getting wine. That's it."
She excused herself and went to the bar counter. Darla shrugged her shoulders, sighing on witnessing their exchange.
It was Fiona's fifteenth birthday and her wish that year is to taste alcohol and as her dear friend, Darla was all in and she even sneaked in a wine bottle to the party which was stolen from her mother's kitchen cabin. That's when Fiona first tasted wine and she never liked anything that much and she didn't even taste other drinks and didn't want to until tonight.
"Round two?"
"Yay!!!!"
They downed another round and then another while Fiona stood at the counter for her wine as the bartender went to fetch a new bottle, after politely asking her to wait for a few minutes. She squinted her eyes a little as the disco lights pierced through them.
She started to tap her slender fingers to the pop music rhythmically playing around there while eyeing people aimlessly, letting her thoughts wander.
Everyone is enjoying, drinking until they can't think straight, dancing until their legs give out, whereas she feels so dispirited, why?
She then remembered her unfinished painting and sighed. She was trying to get through it for days now but always got distracted by her thoughts. She should complete it tomorrow at any cost.
She has this passion for sketching and painting since childhood. At that time when she made her mind to sketch something, she couldn't move from that place until it's done and perfect. Although those were simple ones suitable for her age, she was so concentrated on her art, trying to put her imaginations on paper but currently her thoughts were in chaos.
She wants to pause them by giving attention to what's in front of her eyes instead of what's on her mind and succeeded only for a good-few-minutes. How good would it be if she just stayed in her childhood forever? Maybe she should do a painting dictated by her thoughts. That might help.
Her peaceful moments were interrupted by the scoundrel she met outside the club. All of a sudden, he came out of nowhere and held her hand, resting on the counter before pulling her up and away from the counter.
Fiona widened her eyes, screaming at the sudden movement. Before she can grasp what's going on, the bastard dragged her towards the stairs behind the bar counter. She immediately held the railing when saw one, refusing to take another step and that was when she saw the face of the culprit.
"Want to have fun?"
Levi asked, winking at her with a disgusting smirk playing on his lips. Fiona's eyes turned red with fury, lifted her right leg and kicked his balls hard.
Finn and his men were dumbfounded to see their mate getting hit by a lady nonetheless. Their shock made them glue to their spot for a quite some time unable to process what just happened and how is it even possible. She looked so docile but Levi was a trained guy, yet he was at the receiving end of pain from a fragile looking teenage girl.
"You bastard. How dare you touch me?"
Fiona rubbed her wrist in revulsion, cursing at him. The audacity of this asshole to lay his filthy hand on her. She lifted her right palm and slapped him with all the strength she could muster up. It was totally unexpected for Levi who was already dwelling in suffering, clutching his groin with his hands, face scrunched up in pain. He could do nothing to dodge it.
The music and darkness in the club swallowed the commotion happening there. Neil who sensed Fiona's absence at the bar counter stood up instantly, worried, to search for her, followed by Darla with a drink in her hand.
It took almost thirty seconds for Levi to get hold of himself and realise what just occurred right now. His eyes widened with fury when he registered the shame this girl brought to him in front of his mates and immediately took out a gun from his jacket, pointing at Fiona.
"You have the nerve to hit me? Me!?"
Levi shouted pointing his index finger at himself and slowly pulled the trigger, laughing maniacally "you are dead bitch."
He was about to shoot at her when Finn who came out of his dumbstruck state, pulled the gun from Levi's hands fast enough to stop the unnecessary drama which might end by them being killed by Master.
"Levi! You know the rules"
Finn yelled at him, glaring hard for his stupidity. It was him who started all this in the first place and yet he was ready to bring them all down along with him.
Fiona on the other hand didn't even flinch when she saw the gun pointed to her forehead, a mere inches away. She stood straight with chin out and face held high, showing no vulnerability. Her face held an unknown confidence that she will be out of here in one piece that she can dodge a bullet if it ever fired.
"Finn, stay out of my way. I should kill her now"
Levi tried to snatch the gun back from Finn but he didn't let him. He shook his head before uttering "Master would kill all of us if you harm the public."
A shiver run down Levi's spine on hearing the word 'Master'. He can't dare to cross his Master's rules but how can he let this one go. The embarrassment is too much to ignore and he can still feel his balls crying in pain because of this whore standing before him, smirking, provoking him to do something if he can. She thinks he can't do anything? That smug look on her face says everything.
"Coward bastard" Fiona muttered under her breath before turning around but still Levi heard it. He pushed Finn away who stood in between him and Fiona before darting towards her.
Neil and Darla who saw Fiona slapping a bulky guy backed by few other bulky guys, were terrified for her friend and swiftly reached her side just in time to push that scoundrel who's advancing towards Fiona and quickly covered their friend behind them, protecting her.
The bartender who came back with the wine bottle called the manager as soon as he saw the gun pointing at a civilian.
"Are these two your dogs, bitch? Did you hire them to save you?"
Fiona who decided to spare him a while ago, laughed out loud clapping her hands. Some idiots wouldn't learn from their mistakes and even a double-punches won't work on them. She stretched her hands, cracking her knuckles, preparing herself for a real fight.
As she was trying to push her friends aside and step up in front, Neil stopped her with his hand and spoke, "Hey dude! We are trying to save YOU, not my friend so just back off before she breaks you."
Not only Levi, his pals too were astonished hearing Neil's words. They all gave a glance at Fiona who looks like a delicate beauty with a mocking gaze. Can this kid really fight with a goon like Levi? They definitely doubt it. The first kick and a slap caught Levi off guard but now he was provoked and won't take it easy.
On the other hand, Darla broke in cold sweat looking at Fiona's angry face. She may look pretty and innocent on the outside but only she and her friends knew how dangerous Fiona can be.
Fiona spent most days of their middle school, fighting with guys who hit on her and then later in detention. She is beautiful and guys used to try every trick possible to get her reciprocate their feelings. Sometimes they went overboard and that's when Fiona would unleash her fists on them, later guys fought as their pride was provoked but only ended up beaten by her.
Fiona never liked anyone to approach her with romantic feelings. She was like a Tom boy in the group. When they came to High School, her reputation has spread enough for any guys to approach her in the name of love so eventually her fighting quests came to an end but today is like waking up that sleeping warrior after a long time.
Levi laughed out loud, holding his stomach with one hand while pointing his index finger at Fiona and then at him, making 'you beat me?' gesture to prove that he didn't believe Neil's threat.
"You knew how to fight? Hah...Haha... You think you can fight me"
Even the men behind Levi started laughing foolishly along with him. Fiona took few deep breaths, clenching and unclenching her fists to stop herself from exploding then and there. She then tried to step forward again only to be stopped by Neil.
He turned towards her and whispered, "We are here to celebrate Fiona, not to pick a fight. So, let's end it here. You already kicked him I guess." hoping it will convince her to drop the idea of fighting.
When Neil and Darla searched for Fiona earlier, they found her, slapping Levi who was already wailing in pain, clutching his groin. That's how Neil realised that slap is just a bonus and the actual reward was already given before that.
Neil then faced Levi before saying "Let's end this here, mister. We don't want to drag this any longer. We have to go" he then eye signalled Darla to take Fiona away from here, nodded at Finn before walking away with the girls. Darla carefully dragged Fiona away, afraid that she would go back again to beat the pulp out of that crap.
"Enough Levi. We should go. Now."
Finn stopped Levi with a hard pull on his shoulder, when he was about to follow the kids, still not willing to let it go.
Levi paused, gritting his teeth while glaring at Fiona's back, mumbling "I'm not done with you yet, bitch. I'll come back for you again." He then turned around, rushing to the basement along with his men, to complete the given task.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you making a scene?"
Darla scolded Fiona, depositing the drink she was carrying earlier, on the table, before placing her hand on her waist like a mother hen trying to teach her chick, here Fiona.
"He touched my hand. You shouldn't have stopped me."
Fiona retorted while sitting on the sofa beside Gwen, still frustrated. She took some wet tissues from her clutch and cleaned her hands thoroughly, remembering his filthy hand on her wrist.
"Fiona, I know what that bastard did is wrong but you know what kind of people come to this club and yet you carelessly went and punched him. He possessed a gun for God's sake, what if he hurt you?"
Fiona lowered her head, hearing Neil's worry etched angry tantrum. That's right, she was being reckless. Never did she think for a second that he might have a gun with him, take it out of nowhere and tries to shoot her. It's not that she didn't know how to dodge a bullet but still it's a careless thing to do on her part. She only hopes not a word of this incident to get out.
"Nothing happened after all. Forget about it"
Being sorry and saying sorry was never Fiona's trait and will never be. So, she replied in a I-don't-care attitude, signalling the same bartender to bring her, her wine.
Darla widened her eyes, looking at Fiona acting so fearless and daring. She almost risked all of their lives but look at her being cool about it, making Darla furious but mostly she was angry for putting herself in danger, for not being careful. Then she reminded herself that Fiona is not someone who would beg or apologise even though she's at fault and definitely not someone to let a person go if he/she messed with her in the first place.
Realising there is nothing they can do to make Fiona guilty of her actions and also, it's not a wise idea to ruin their party for already settled glitch, they decided to resume their celebration, Fiona with wine and the rest with vodka. They spent reminiscing their school days, teasing each other until the alcohol kicked their system and made them dance hysterically.
They already had their dinner at a restaurant Neil booked before coming to this bar so they all don't need to worry about drinking on an empty stomach. In the middle of their dancing, Fiona noticed Thiago slowly slipping away with his date while Gwen and Neil were busy doing what couples do, so it's she and Darla swaying to the music.
At twelve, Neil dropped off Fiona at her home before stopping at Darla's and then crashed at Gwen's. He booked a cab for them all as Thiago went ahead with Ria. They were all pretty wasted though so cab seemed a best option.
As soon as Fiona opened the door with her spare key, she first heard a slow sound coming from the living room, television is on, she realised though it took few minutes for her drunken state to notice her parents sleeping on the couch, leaning into each other. Her heart warmed looking at her caring parents.
They might have slept waiting for her return. She first went into the kitchen and impatiently poured herself a glass of water and chugged down before coming back to her parents. She first powered off TV and then woke her father up. The movement also woke Victoria as she slept, laying her head on her husband's shoulder.
"You're home honey."
Logan hugged her tired body and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. Fiona snuggled into him like a kitten.
"You both don't have to wait for me. I'll be fine and I have a spare key too, remember?" The water and the feel of cold air to her face during her ride back home where she requested taxi driver to pull down the windows, helped her sober up quite enough to let her speak properly. But she sounded so cute even to her ears.
"We want to make sure you are home safely before going to bed, that's it. Now that you are here, we shall retire to our bedroom." Victoria replied softly, patting Fiona's head.
"Make sure to change first and then sleep. Okay?"
Fiona gave them a goodnight kiss after nodding to their take-care's and retreated to her room upstairs.
As soon as she opened her bedroom door, a pillow came flying towards her, hitting her face. She instantly knew who it was.
"Enrico!"
Fiona half shouted at the man sitting on her sofa so comfortably like it's his place while picking up that fallen pillow. If there is any remaining haziness she was feeling, it was gone now completely because of that hit. It's not like she was hurt but rather unexpected, awaking all her senses.
"Hey gorgeous!!" came a cool cheesy voice making Fiona roll her eyes. She threw her bag along with the pillow on her bed before making her way towards the sofa and sat facing Enrico. He was dressed in his casual blue shirt, black trousers and his favourite Rolex watch glistening on his wrist. He styled his natural blonde hair in a bun, at the back of his head, which would reach his neck when left loose.
His lips displayed a handsome smile, earning an equal charming smile in return. She knew why he's here.
"Do you know who he is?" Soon that smile dropped from Enrico's face as seriousness took over his features.
Fiona frowned, not understanding what he meant by that.
"Who?"
"The one who got his balls kicked by this dashing girl." Sensing the mood changing, he lightly joked, pointing at her but still inquiring.
She chuckled punching his shoulder. He knows how to flirt with her but she always hopes this just to be this. A causal teasing. Nothing more.
"I don't know. Why?"
Enrico squinted his eyes staring at her for a long time. Is she saying the truth? Even though she hates that person and avoids anything related to him, she still might know whose clan Levi belonged to. There's a high chance of her recognizing them as their enemy's men but if she says she doesn't know, there's no reason to not believe her.
Enrico never wants her to get involved with that bastard again. Never wants her to even think about him. To Enrico, it's a good thing she lost her interest in that person after the tragic incident, happened a decade ago. Whether they were once family or not, now all she sees in him is his vengeance and as her family's biggest enemy. It saved him a lot of trouble. If possible, he'll forever hid her from that bastard.
She must've fought with Levi because of his inappropriate behaviour and not knowing whose men they really were. He then remembered his purpose of coming here and slowly took out a small velvet box, tied with a red ribbon, from his pocket and handed it to her.
"Graduation present from dad Carl."
She rubbed her palms excitedly and pulled the ribbon gently of what seems like a jewellery box. All the excitement suddenly rushed out of her body replaced by anger, after seeing the same chain Victoria gifted her earlier, resting elegantly in the box.
She closed the box with unnecessary force and put it aside on the table, questioning Enrico, "Are you guys spying on me?"
"I am just the delivery guy. Now don't come at me."
He quickly said in his defence, rising his both hands up in a surrender gesture and stood up. He gave her a quick hug before leaving through the window, afraid that he might become the object of her anger. Once he landed safely on the ground, he waved at her and left with his men who were waiting for him at the end of the street in a white limousine.
Once she is alone in her room, she sighed freeing her hair and leaned back on the sofa watching the ceiling deep in thoughts. Sweat trickled down her temples dampening her skin because of the booze, frustrated at her sweaty body she staggered to the balcony for fresh air. Goodness! She extended her hands welcoming the cool breezes to embrace her but the balcony reminded her of something and rushed back to get her journal.
She sat on recliner and put her pencils on the side table before taking one to roll her hair up into a bun. She caressed the journal, her eyes softened, lips curled up slightly, after few seconds of staring at the journal she started sketching and spent at least half-an-hour to complete it. With one final admired look at her hand-drawn-magic, she closed her journal but not before signing at the end.
That's when she realised how tired she was and also needs to fresh up so she took a quick shower, changed into comfy pyjamas before falling on her bed with a frequency communicator in her hand.
She hesitated for a while thinking they might have slept already but at last punched the buttons and put it near her ear.
"Captain Dada, do you copy?"
Fiona waited until she received the confirmation from the other end and then the translator connected her to the person she wants to speak instantly.
"Klara!"
"I don't want your men trailing me all the time. I think I made that clear already?"
The other side went silent for longer than few minutes, making Fiona anxious. She cursed herself for being rude. She should've greeted him first and then approach this topic gradually.
"Dad! I know you are looking out for me but no one knows about my real identity. I was dead to the world so no one will come after me. Please stop worrying all the time."
Carl sighed heavily, killing his cigarette butt in the ashtray. She's wrong. She might be dead to the world but not for him. She's still his daughter, he raised lovingly, feeding her with his hands for years. He will worry for her until his last breath.
"How can I not? I'm your father. See what happened today, a random guy had the audacity to point his gun at you. Before you say, I know nothing bad had occurred but still it's unacceptable."
"As you knew already, I dealt with it perfectly and came home unscathed. I can protect myself fine. You know I can. I'm not just an ordinary weak girl."
Carl was sure nothing would happen to his daughter. She was capable of protecting herself moreover his men were ready to jump in any moment. They would've interfered if the other guy had not taken the gun away from that bastard. Yet he couldn't stop himself from worrying. Father's love indeed.
"Okay as you wish. I apologise. I shouldn't have done one thing when I promised you another. But know that I don't regret sending them because I knew you wouldn't tell me if such things happened."
"Dad!"
She didn't want to hurt her dad but he'll only expose her identity if he sent his men to guard her. A normal girl wouldn't have a bunch of bulky men following her everywhere she goes.
"OK fine! You win. No more guards following you. How's my present?"
"You are one step behind, dad."
Fiona played with the chain around her neck, a lovely smile playing on her lips. She was grateful to God for giving her the best parents in the world not once but twice.
"Who bought it for you?"
"Mom Victoria."
Carl looked at his wife Kate who is eagerly waiting just to talk with her daughter. She was a light sleeper so when she heard him speaking, she instantly woke up and snatched the communicator from her husband's hand. Carl was glad that she didn't hear about that bar incident. He should be more careful next time or else he can't see her worrying all the time like him. Missing Klara is enough.
"I am so envious of them Klara. They can see you every day, can shower you with love and care at any time of the day, unlike us."
Kate dropped her smile as emptiness consumed her at once. There isn't a minute of time she spent not wishing for her daughter to be with them, missing her constantly. If only she didn't leave her alone on that day. She'd be here now, with them. In her arms to love and care.
"Mom! I promise you. We'll live together as a family again just like how we used to."
"You and I both knew it's impossible" Carl replied, devoid of any emotion in his voice.
Fiona's heart throbbed at that thought. It's true they can't be a whole family ever again because they lost their loved ones in that unfortunate incident. But still, she can't let her hope die.
"Baby Klara"
"Mom"
Kate wiped her tears, spilled unknowingly to her. It happens every time. Even her tears can't measure up to the amount she misses her daughter.
"How are you, my baby?"
"I'm fine mom. Just tell dad not to send Enrico to run his errands."
"He totally volunteered himself, may be he wants to see you."
Fiona rolled her eyes at her mother's teasing voice. Everyone knows that Enrico is Klara's lapdog but she isn't interested in him. She made sure of letting him know that by rejecting his advances but he's adamant. After she bluntly gave him an ultimatum of severing ties with him, he finally let go of his feelings, giving her a peace of mind. And her mom knew it too but she always teases her for having a lover boy around her which is really bad. She should do something about that.
"OK mom, I'm sleepy. Talk to you later"
Kate reluctantly gave the communicator to Carl after saying goodbye to her daughter.
"I miss you dad and I'll meet you soon"
Fiona hung up and hid her communicator in her locker. She switched off the lights and covered herself with the duvet. She was dog tired but her mind teleported her to past, taking sleep away.
