A Rolls-Royce Phantom pulled up in the driveway of an estate painted in white and royal blue. The surrounding space was decorated in a trail of neatly trimmed plants and colorful flowers with a fountain sitting in the middle.
Faye stared at what could very well be her new home through the tinted window.
She resisted the urge to throw up as her heart knocked against her chest in a violent beat.
Her anxiety could simply be traced to moving into a new home, but it was much bigger than that.
She, a Werewolf; mortal enemies to the Lycans was about to live amongst the most powerful Lycan pack in existence.
"Are you nervous?"
A soft and gentle voice spoke, breaking through the loudness of her panic. For a moment she had forgotten that she wasn't alone.
She settled her golden eyes on the beautiful woman with a platinum blonde pixie cut and blue-grey eyes. She looked well in her early 30's, but Faye knew she was much older than that.
She shook her head at Gwen's question, and Gwen simply shot her a smile.
Faye let out another shaky breath and nodded her head. "I am."
Gwen gently patted Faye's head, her hands smoothening the stray strands of her silver hair.
"Don't be." She smiled, "I'm here."
Faye stared at the woman who was no more than a stranger, yet was kind to her. She was a complete contrast to the woman she called 'Mother' her entire life.
She nodded, then mustered a smile.
Gwen shot her yet another smile, then leaned back on her seat.
'Nick.' She called for her husband through the mindlink. 'Is Emris home?'
'Yeah, he is.' Nick responded.
'And the rest?'
'All here. What's wrong?'
'Could you have everyone wait for me in the living room?'
Nick paused a bit. 'You got it.'
Gwen turned to Faye. "Let's head in."
She exited the car, then held her hand out to Faye who just stared at her.
After spending her entire life tortured by her kind, she wondered just how different this place would be.
Taking a shaky breath in, she took Gwen's hand and exited the car.
Gwen led her through the door, and the second she shut it behind them, Faye's heart dropped to her stomach.
*"Dad, please!" *
Her own distressed voice invaded her ears as flashes of blood, the full moon in the sky and large wolves came crashing on her like a violent wave.
*"Dad, it hurts!" a twelve year old Faye cried; her clothes and silver hair bloodied and two wolves towering over her. *
Her vision doubled, and her body started to tremble. The sound of a door slamming shut echoed through her ears and her lips parted in a desperate gasp for air.
Gwen stopped in her tracks.
"Faye." She called, gently grabbing Faye's shoulders. "You're okay. Remember, I'm here."
Gwen's words felt like the warm touch of the sun after a cold and heavy storm. Looking into Gwen's blue-grey eyes, Faye let out yet another shaky breath.
She swallowed the anxiety stuck in her throat.
"Thank you." She breathed, then followed after Gwen.
The inside of their home looked like art. Paintings hung on every wall of the lobby- mostly portraits of family and ancestors.
They walked under the sweeping curves of the dual-direction staircase, and Faye could hear and see the small group of people in the living room chattering away.
She followed Gwen into a large living room, barely having time to appreciate her environment when the sweetest smell she'd ever come across caressed her senses.
She knew it couldn't have come from the room, but from someone in it.
It was weird. Creatures like them who were sensitive to smell never wore perfumes. She couldn't smell any on Gwen-even when they were in the car, and she couldn't smell any on the others in the room.
Except one.
Faye's body pulsated when her attention drifted and settled on a pair of beautiful blue eyes that seemed to transport her into an entirely different dimension.
Who is he? Faye mused.
He stood a short distance from her, his build taller and larger than most of the men she'd seen. He was the most beautiful man she had ever set her eyes on.
His eyes darkened, and he looked at Gwen.
"Who is she?"
'Mate.'
Emris' wolf alerted the second his mother walked into the living room with a girl who's beauty put the moon and stars to shame.
He watched her movements, the way her golden eyes darted across the room in awe of her surroundings.
'Mate..' Titan reminded in a low and excited growl, a hint of desperation in his voice.
*But wait. *
Emris paused. * Her smell..*
Her eyes met his, and he clenched his jaw.
*She's a Werewolf* . He growled internally.
"Who is she?"
Emris' deep voice provoked snarls from Lynn; the dark haired woman and Vincent; the blonde man standing next to him, and their eyes turned gold.
His question was all they needed to go into attack mode.
Faye flinched and her mind raced with a thousand thoughts.
*Are they going to kill me? Was it a bad idea to follow this woman in the end? *
She felt her hope for a different life start to dwindle as the harsh snarls from Lynn and Vincent filled the air.
"Enough." Nick's voice came out low, but loud enough to silence his little sister and his brother-in-law.
He walked towards his wife, then glimpsed at a terrified Faye.
"What is this?" He questioned, calm and gentle- more than willing to hear her side of the story.
"I'd prefer my question be answered first." Emris demanded, taking a few steps forward.
Gwen held her arm out; shielding Faye from Emris' looming build and steely gaze.
Nick stood between his wife and his son, covering Gwen and Faye from Emris' sight as he met Emris' steely gaze with a glare.
"Step back." Nick ordered.
They knew Emris well enough to prevent him from getting any closer.
The room's eerie silence was interrupted by Emris' low and amused scoff.
"She's a Werewolf, Dad." He pointed out with a slight grin. "How has she been here two minutes and we haven't ripped her head off?"
Faye's heart dropped to the bottom of her stomach as those words left his grinning lips.
"I'm not saying this as your father, Emris." Nick started. "But as your Alpha."
His eyes turned from blue to gold, and his short hair spiked up; pulling with it grey fur that grew on his neck and down to his back.
"Step.back." He ordered in a deep growl.
Emris' fists tightened, then he let out a scoff and retreated to a Sofa.
Gwen let out a low sigh of relief, then shit Nick a grateful nod when he looked back at her.
"Now listen." Nick announced, shifting back to normal.
"We'll listen to our Luna and avoid unnecessary actions. Are we clear on that?"
Lynn let out an unamused scoff and plopped down on the two person Couch next to Vincent.
They all took their seats, and all eyes followed Faye as Gwen led her to the farthest seat facing them.
Gwen scanned the displeased looks on their faces, then let out a sigh.
"I want to adopt Faye."
"WHAT?!" Lynn snapped, sitting up on her chair.
"Gwen, you * can't* be serious!" Vincent added, then turned to Nick who simply sat still without a word or an expression on his face.
Emris -like his father- sat still with a deadpan expression. He had his eyes on Faye, while she occasionally stole glances at him.
Then Emris leaned forward, leaning his elbows on his legs.
"Faye, is it?"
The room went silent, and Faye stiffened. Faye could tell that Emris was baiting her on. So, she looked at Gwen- clueless on what to do.
Gwen shot her a small and understanding smile, then turned to Emris.
"Yes." She answered. "Her name is-"
"What pack sent you?" Emris cut in, charging towards his point.
Faye locked eyes with him, biting down on her tongue and looking to Gwen once again.
"My mother's not your servant, dog." Emris growled. "Speak!"
His bark sent a shiver down Faye's spine, echoing in her mind like a chime. She hated loud sounds- especially from people.
It always seemed to take her back into that dark room filled with her blood, her screams for mercy and the unbearable torture from her so called Family.
"EMRIS!" Gwen yelled. "You're out of line!"
"Am I?! Emris snapped. "You're the one out of line here, Mom! You brought a Werewolf into our territory- into our home!"
Faye covered her ears, her memories coming in fragments, building up an ache in her head as she watched the man she felt strangely connected to fume in his loathing of her.
Emris tore his gaze away from Gwen and settled it on Faye once more, her silence only fueling his anger.
"I SAID SPEAK!" He roared, shooting to his feet.
*"TRANSFORM!"*
Emris' thunderous voice triggered a memory from her torture. And with the voice came the feeling of razor sharp claws slashing at her back, and her screams filling the air as her silver hair turned red from her own blood.
Her vision doubled, and the sounds around her muffled.
Then, everyone went silent once again. All of their attention settled on Faye- and their eyes widened.
Out of Faye's eyes, blood flowed like waterfalls, dropping on her white dress already stained from dust and weeks of having the same thing on.
Suddenly, it dawned on them that her beauty and identity had completely distracted them from the state that she was in.
She looked like she would break at any moment.
"Please.." Faye whispered, "It hurts."
Faye's eyes fluttered open to a white ceiling with a diamond chandelier
She turned her head and looked out the window. She couldn't see anything but distant trees and gorgeous flower beds.
She let out a sigh, then sat up on the bed.
She came face to face with a full length mirror, then narrowed her eyes at the blood stains on her dress.
"Oh." She breathed. "I fainted."
"You're awake."
Faye jumped at the unfamiliar voice, then pulled the blanket to her chest like it was some protective cloak.
Her eyes fell on the gorgeous young woman with golden hair and green eyes who walked into the room. Her skin was as pale as Faye's.
She caught Faye staring in awe, and she grinned ; revealing her fangs.
Faye's eyes broadened.
*Vampire?! *
"Who are you?"
"Me?" the Vampire furrowed her brows, then grinned further and sat at the end of the bed.
"I'm Mabel." She introduced and stretched out her arm for a handshake.
Faye stared at her, studying her grin and the look in her eyes. She didn't seem dangerous nor hostile.
She reluctantly shared a handshake before withdrawing her hand.
It was Mabel's turn to study Faye. She narrowed her eyes, grinning further when Faye furrowed her brows.
"You're strange." She crossed her arms. "You don't smell like a Werewolf to me."
Faye froze; Mabel's words hanging over her like a taunting coo-coo clock.
"I must be unto something here." Mabel deduced, then leaned closer to Faye with a sinister grin. "Your reaction says a lot, y'know."
*Does she know?* Faye mused.
Mabel's grin faded, and she watched Faye with a blank expression. Her green eyes trailed down to Faye's chest, then she lifted her hand from the bed and touched it with her index finger.
"Vampires have a way of sensing emotions." Her voice came out cold and flat, lacking the friendly tone she started with.
It held venom to it instead.
"You may be skilled at lying, but I can tell something's off. " Her eyes met Faye's in a cold and demanding gaze. "Are you hiding something from us?"
Faye swallowed. Their eyes remained locked, Mabel's piercing gaze bearing into Faye's soul like a knife through butter.
Suddenly, Mabel's lips stretched into a smile and she let out a loud and hearty laugh.
Faye blinked, her mind going completely blank.
Mabel's laughter increased when she glanced at Faye's befuddled expression, and she playfully smacked Faye's arm.
Faye had no clue what to say or how to respond to the crazy woman seated before her.
*I miss Gwen.*
She mused and looked at the door, in hopes of Gwen suddenly walking in with her kind smile and calming aura.
Mabel let out a loud sigh that signaled the end of her outburst, then wiped the tear that escaped her eyes.
"I'm sorry for scaring you, Hun." She apologised.
"You're the one who's strange." Faye said.
"I thought it'd be fun to rile you up a bit." Mabel shrugged, shooting her a slight smirk.
"I've been through enough 'riling up' for today." Faye muttered again and hugged her knees to her chest.
"Today?" Mabel's brows furrowed and she chuckled. "How long do you think you were asleep for?"
Faye squeezed her brows.
"Um, a few hours?"
Mabel chuckled. "You were asleep for three days."
Faye's jaw dropped. "Three...days?"
"You should've seen everyone." Mabel continued. "One minute they're petitioning for your head to be cut off, and the next they're cluelessly running around."
Faye gripped the blanket as she stared at Mabel.
"For me..?"
*They were worried about me? A Werewolf they just met? *
"I've gotta say, Emris shocked me the most."
Faye's ears perked at the mention of Emris' name.
"He was worried?"
"He-"
"Mabel." The deep and familiar voice shot through Faye's ears like music.
Emris walked into the room and slammed the door shut; provoking a flinch from Faye.
"That's Auntie to you." Mabel corrected.
"When you act like one, I'll treat you like one." Emris said and Mabel narrowed her eyes at his audacity.
"If you don't mind," Emris continued, "I'd like to talk to her alone."
Faye's eyes widened.
*He wants to talk to me alone? What if he's planning to kill me? *
Faye had experienced enough to doubt everything and everyone. And Emris seemed like the type to act without thinking about the consequences.
She knew he could kill her this instant and walk away with it.
She latched unto Mabel's arm, then shook her head.
Mabel looked between a desperate Faye and a stone faced Emris, then let out a sigh.
She couldn't do much for the poor girl here.
"I'll be right outside the door." She got up from the bed and Faye watched in horror as she walked away.
The second Mabel closed the door, the room was filled with the thick aura of Emris' disdain.
He took a step forward and she quickly climbed out of the bed and ran over to the open window.
She was willing to jump and sustain a few injuries, than be mauled by him.
Emris stopped, then shot her a look. He took another step forward and his eyes widened when she hoisted herself up on the windowsill.
"What on earth are you-"
She jumped.
