The shortness of breath can cause our lungs to burst at any moment.
We have been running for miles now and are close to the cave where we live. If we can make it there, we will be saved from the clutches of two colossal Lycans who are hot on our heels. Judging by their prominent wolf features, they must hold high ranks in their race.
"Hang in there, Xanne. We're almost home, just a few more miles," I urged my best friend.
Thank God, we were able to shift in time; these two possess incredible speed that leaves us in awe. We were able to get a big head start since they didn't anticipate us leaving, which confused them before starting the chase. However, our lead is quickly diminishing since their pace is relentless; they are gaining ground.
'Yes, we're almost there. Once we hit the imperceptible barrier, we will be safe,' Xanne replied, panting in the mind link.
As Era, my wolf, strides to cover the last bit of distance, we finally arrive at Xanne's mystically built wall. Concealed from everyone's sight lies our secure refuge, a cave. With a long jump, Era nimbly passes through the invisible veil, and we land on the sandy ground inside. To my left, I notice Jeva, Xanne's wolf, also flopping down, gasping for breath.
We shift into our human forms and lean against the wall of the cave, trying to regain our strength.
"That was close, Cissy. How were they able to scent us? The potion is all over us," Xanne asked, astonished.
I can't help but chuckle; undoubtedly, Lycan instincts are undeniably sharper than those of ordinary werewolves. We crossed paths with them unexpectedly and were unable to take precautions.
"I think we require a more powerful one that is capable of withstanding Lycans as well," I laughed. "Meeting this breed in this area was unforeseen. They are typically found in Canada; we encountered them sooner than planned."
All of a sudden, a menacing growl catches our attention, and we turn to look back in the direction we had just come from. There we see them again, scanning the surroundings, apparently baffled that we could have disappeared in the blink of an eye. Why were they in Crescent Moon anyway? An Alpha installation isn't really a great event for Lycans to step out of their nest.
They thoroughly search every nook and cranny of the terrain, peering behind each leaf and rock formation, digging deep into the bushes for clues, but to no avail. After some time, they look at each other in despair before starting another cycle of rigorous investigation.
Xanne and I are now screaming with laughter, tumbling around on the ground.
Amused, we sit up again and, with great interest, observe them tear out every last tree and shrub in their search of finding us. Our mates. They are now back in their human form and stark naked. Identical twins, and handsome as hell.
Both of them have long hair with blended shades of brown and blonde. One of them has his in a ponytail, tightly fastened at the top of his head. Their divine toned bodies are on full display before our eyes; my mouth waters as my gaze fixates upon their bulging manhood.
Their thick eyebrows are knitted together tightly, growing increasingly annoyed that they can't find us. Lycans are very possessive by nature; we are aware they will not give up easily and will probably continue looking for us for hours. Fortunately, we had stocked up all the necessary supplies in the cave, so we could watch over them undetected from atop our comfortable bed.
"I am at a complete loss here! How were they able to perceive us as their mates? We are merely seventeen years old, we still have sixty days left until we turn eighteen!" Xanne wondered out loud. I shrugged.
"Poor timing for them. They entered our lives at an inconvenient time. We do not have the luxury to worry about mates right now, as it would only complicate things further. They will surely demand that we assume our responsibilities. As for me, I am not ready yet," I confidently stated.
Suddenly, one of them glances towards us, his gaze penetrating the wall as if he can see through. Impossible, of course; outsiders see the magic barrier as a big stone structure and hence do not bother to approach it.
"Where did they disappear, brother?" one asked the other. "And why did they flee? Every wolf would like to meet his mate, right? Maybe we should ask Alpha Dimitri about all the unmated she-wolves in his pack; they won't dare to stay hidden," he suggested.
"Easy, man. Don't put pressure on this," the other one soothed. "If they fled from us, there must be an underlying reason why they're acting out. Forcing them to come out might only make it harder for us to find them."
Hmmm, clearly one twin was decidedly more sentimental than his sibling. Impatiently, his brother runs a hand through his hair and looks back at the wall.
"But how do we find them? I can't detect any scent here. It seems as if they have disappeared from the face of the earth. Is that even possible?"
"Calm down. They can't be far. Plus, if they're part of Dimitri's pack, it won't be difficult to locate them," the other brother chimed in. "We'll track them down and convince them to join us willingly. I want a woman who's enthusiastic about being with me, not someone forced into it."
His words were full of resolution and conviction.
"Makes sense. Let's take a rest under the tree. We can extend our stay in Crescent Moon for a few days," admitted the stoic brother. "Besides, my instincts warn me about this Alpha. He seems like a dubious figure to me. I wouldn't be surprised if he's involved in shady business."
As we watched the scene unfold, the two were sitting just below a massive tree, facing directly into the cave. Now that we have a complete view of them, we can observe them to our heart's content...
With Xanne next to me, I enjoyed watching the twins.
Goodness, men ought not to be permitted to possess such alluring lips. And those mesmerizing blue eyes, one could get lost in them forever.
I set my gaze on the muscular one, he appears more dominant to me.
My eyes wander downwards to his well-shaped chest, every she-wolf's dream. Eight-pack and all, I can do so much with those pink dots there. This is the perfect mate, magnificent and ideal in every way.
And then my eyes go lower...!
Ahhh, Goddess! These Lycans are generously blessed by Selene! My eyes widened with excitement. Never before had I witnessed a naked man in person and this one was truly worth it all. Although I'd viewed plenty of men online on porn videos on my phone, nothing compared to experiencing such a breathtaking sight right here before me. To confess truthfully, he exceeded even my wildest imagination!
As my body heats up, my mouth becomes dry. Slowly, I glide my tongue over my plump lips.
Xanne and I are both just seventeen, still too young to find mates but old enough to experiment with sex. Though we're still virgins, our fantasies have increasingly become harder to control.
In the evenings, we explore our sexuality by watching porn on the tablet while touching our own bodies with curious hands. It's an amazing adventure that pushes us closer to giving in completely, however, we remain resolute about saving ourselves for our mates who happens to be these two Lycans before us.
"Cissy, just look at their physics, they're absolutely mind blowing. And best of all, they belong to us," I heard Xanne whispered eagerly. "Can't we have them at least once while still keeping our promise to the Luna?" Her voice dripped with lust.
As I glance over at her, I notice that she's still staring intently, as if hypnotized by a particular section of one of them.
"No, no Xanne. You know it's really not possible at the moment. Our priority is to complete this task before time runs out," I reminded her, fervently shaking my head. "You know what my father kept emphasizing to all females in our pack: once we find our mate, we must stay with him. Our place is next to them, we have to follow him to his pack."
She sighs resignedly, but her eyes continuing to lust over the man.
"Yes, I know. Taking a peek wouldn't hurt anyone. Moreover, I'm sure they'll be stationed outside our doorstep for some time and I intend to keep my eyes on the prize," he replied cunningly.
I rise from my spot and walk further into the cave where we have our fridge. I pull out two generously sized salted steaks and start our last meal for the day. Since we couldn't attend Crescent Moon's lavish buffet celebration, we have to fend for ourselves now.
Carrying the juicy steaks, a large bowl of salad and a carafe with icy soda, I make my way towards Xanne. To my great surprise, I see her still staring at the men. Not that I can blame her, the two are by far the hottest ones I've ever laid eyes on.
""We will have to move," I stated, "They are going to come here every day and it'll be increasingly difficult for us to get rid of them. We still need to go work, we've got the evening shift tomorrow."
"Yes, there is another cave closer to Human Town. But we'll come back here to see them, won't we Cissy?" she asked longingly. "They said they were going to stay at Crescent Moon and are excited about courting us."
This girl makes no effort to conceal her horny feelings.
"We'll see. But don't forget what we promised my Luna mother. With only two months left until our eighteenth birthday, we have to leave for the Kingdom soon."
After idling under the tree for an hour, the twins stood up. Within seconds they have shifted back into their imposing black Lycan wolves. They rose onto their hind legs with heads held high before sprinting towards the Crescent Moon.
"Bye, bye, mate. See you again later," whispered Xanne.
She turns to me and takes her plate of food from my hands. Without much thought, she chomps on her steak while gazing off into space. Watching closely, it's apparent that she yearns to give herself completely to her mate and go on a new adventure with him. However, I also sense a deep responsibility weighing heavy on her heart which compels her to join me, even if not entirely enthusiastic about it.
"We will continue to apply the potion for the time being. Now we have to avoid not only members of Crescent Moon but also mates as we may meet them anywhere," I noted while watching her closely.
I am willing to let Xanne go if she shows the slightest indication of a change of heart.
The assignment was given to me, the Luna was my mother. As a member of Eclipse Howlers, it's expected for Xanne to fulfill her duty but there will be no repercussions if she chooses not to do so anymore since our pack link has been severed. We're left with only each other now.
As if sensing my mood, she raises her eyes to me.
"No matter how tempting my mate is, I have given you my word to go to Canada together," she stressed. "The sooner we reach our destination and deliver the box, the sooner I can be with my mate!" She giggles excitedly as her enthusiasm grows.
Well, at least it's something.
After finishing our meal, we cleaned our plates together. Our camping beds are situated in the corner of a cave where a glimmer of light seeps through an opening above, illuminating enough to prevent complete darkness.
On this evening, we decided to retire early. After a quick bath in our makeshift bathroom using buckets of cold water, we finally went to bed completely exhausted.
Our visit to Crescent Moon, the pack responsible for the death of our family, was emotionally challenging. The sight of their former Alpha, a proud yet cruel man with a piercing gaze, was overwhelming as he's accountable for the massacre. I couldn't stop the tears from flowing at that moment.
To make matters worse, his son, Dimitri is his spitting image.
With the young Alpha in mind, I fall into a deep sleep...
Still Alpha Female Cissy's POV
We break up as soon as Xanne wakes up. We tidy up the cave and gather our belongings. Before leaving, I double-check the precious box given to me by my mother; it's securely tucked away in one of the pockets of my jeans. After taking a bath, we apply the potion once more. Although it may not provide full protection as before, it allows us to remain undetected by aggressive werewolves.
In fact, we are now considered rogues, and therefore our lives are at risk. Pack wolves hate rogues as they consider them a threat and may capture or even kill them on the spot. Moreover, we must avoid bumping into members of Crescent Moon at all costs, who knows how they will react upon discovering that high-ranking Eclipse Howlers are still alive!
We placed our belongings on a wooden cart that one of our colleagues from the restaurant had assembled for us a few months ago.
"I need additional herbs to make a more potent potion. I can only find them a few miles away from here. After we have settled into our new place, we will go search for them," Xanne proposed.
We walked for about an hour until we were close to the border of Human Town. There was a larger cave there that we had initially avoided because we wanted to be deeper in the forest to be able to walk our wolves undisturbed. However, now that we have encountered other problems, we have little choice but to live there.
After arranging our new cave, Xanne erects the mystical barrier once more. First, we want to rest for a while before searching for herbs. A couple of hours later, we walk through nature again and Xanne points out various types of botanical specimens while explaining their medicinal benefits with great fervor. Her mother was a witch who happened to be the mate of my father's beta.
My mother often told me about all the chaos their mating caused in our pack, given that werewolves generally despise witches. But the Beta was adamant about keeping his mate as he earned support from my strong and authoritative Alpha dad, whose word was law in our pack.
Witches do not feel the bond, and it took Beta Jace a lot of effort to persuade Auntie Xena. He ventured into her coven several times, braving the ridicule of other witches just to be with her. Ultimately, my Alpha father invited the warlock from Auntie Xena's coven and offered him a significant dowry consisting of land as well as an agreement for peace.
In the meantime, Auntie Xena was already smitten with the gentleman who brought her all kinds of gifts and showered her with loving lines and compliments. After some time, she willingly joined our pack with the warlock's permission, and Eclipse Howlers and the coven became allies.
The day of the mating ceremony of the Beta and the witch was exceptional. Never before had witches and werewolves enjoyed themselves in one place, the food was abundant, and alcohol flowed incessantly. My father made it as special as possible to leave a good impression on the coven. Mom always smiled when she repeatedly told me this story.
"This is it. This is the plant I need," Xanne suddenly exclaimed happily, snapping me out of my reverie. She picked many leaves and placed them in a basket, then she rubbed one until juice came out and held it in front of my nose. The scent was amazing, surpassing even the most expensive perfume humans have ever put together.
"Will this be our scent from now on? Will werewolves smell it when they encounter us?" I asked curiously.
Xanne laughed. "Correct. We will both have the same scent since we are using the same potion. However, your mate will detect the scent on you but not me, and vice versa. None of the Lycans should be able to feel their mate bond anymore as this potion is too potent," she explained. "So now all we need to do is determine which twin belongs to whom."
Xanne smiled slyly; she exuded pure joy. As someone who adores anything enigmatic and enjoys pulling pranks, my friend is bound to relish every moment of our journey to the Kingdom in accomplishing our task.
"It must work flawlessly, with no room for error. Any delay caused by our mates claiming and marking us could jeopardize the delivery of the box as we would need their permission to leave," I reminded her. "The previous potion exposed us. If they hadn't noticed us yet, we wouldn't be under this stressful situation."
Offended, Xanne stared at me. "My potion always works. It's just that we're only seventeen. Who would have thought that our mates would show up so early? And our wolves are not yet able to claim them, it is completely one-sided," she stated, slightly offended.
I grabbed her hand reassuringly. "Hey girl. That was not an accusation. My main concern is staying focused on our goal and not getting sidetracked by finding a mate," I clarified. "It's that we still were not able to raise enough money to get our car and having mates around may slow us down even more than expected. Hitchhiking could be the solution for us," I sighed dejectedly.
"Don't worry, everything will turn out okay. Now let's go back so I can get everything ready before we have to go to work. We can meet them again any time. Lycans never give up."
As we made our way back to the new cave, a piercing, ear-splitting howl shattered the silence, causing us to halt in terror. Our faces contorted with shock as we searched for the origin of this disconcerting sound. It was then that I realized our mates had come across the old cave and recognized something amiss; during their search yesterday, they found only rocks where now there stood an entrance.
We burst out laughing, feeling proud that we've outsmarted them. But we also know that we have to be more careful. They must now realize that we are using tricks, which would undoubtedly make us even more conspicuous in their eyes.
Once we have stepped through the invisible barrier, Xanne promptly sets to work on creating the new potion. I watch with interest as she explains how the mix is done and what the effects of the herbs are. When she's done, she places the mix in a jar to submerge in water for cooling.
We decide to do some household stuff before starting our evening shifts at Stan's. We have about two hours left. At that time, I expect those searching Lycans to have called it a day. If we're fortunate enough, at the very least...
