Broken
Utterly broken was how I felt; I couldn't believe it. Just like that, my life had turned into shambles. Not only have I lost my parents, but I have also been betrayed by the person I thought loved and cared for me the most.
Nothing could have prepared me for this; if anyone had told me this was what would happen to me a week ago, I would have laughed bitterly to their face.
But here I am now.
I'm being priced like an animal in an auction house, and only Moon knows where.
"Sold to the gentleman in the back for 70 million dollars!" The auctioneer points to me.
No matter how much I repeated to myself, this was just a bad nightmare; I just couldn't wake up from it. Was this my life now?
I have just been sold to the Lycan king.
.•.•.•
I tried To close my eyes and picture myself back in my pack, safe and happy just like I used to be, but I couldn't go back to that now .not after what Damon had done.
I still remember that very night a few days ago, when I and Damon went out on a date, his roguish smile had me feeling hot and bothered as Damon's curious hands touched and traced my body, and a song played on the radio, tuning out our moans
And his warm lips touched mine in a lovely kiss. God, you're so remarkable, Brynn Kelly," Damon Cole, my boyfriend of two years, had told me as we kissed in his car. He had asked me to come with him to see the sunset outside the pack.
And the view did not disappoint, but mostly my view was of him as he kissed me deeply and sensually. "I love you, Damon," I confessed to him, baring my soul into the open with another kiss, and he smiled back at me.
"Me too, my love," he whispers to me, his hand flying to the buttons of my gown to peel it off me, as a part of me knew this day was surely going to end with sex as I had prepared to give myself to him that very day. "So pretty for me," he calls as he has effortlessly taken a few buttons undone and landed a few kisses on my breast.
But suddenly, we were interrupted by the incessant buzzing of his phone, which he picked up and said, "What is it, Tye?" He muttered angrily to Tye, his best mate in the pack. I couldn't help but giggle and button my clothes back up, but his face immediately turned sour from whatever Tye had just said. What do you mean dead?"
He asked on the phone as he gave Me a weary look, and my heart immediately plummeted from my chest. I adjusted myself in the car seat to fully sit up as I faced him, and his face read so much emotion that it left me confused and in panic. "We're coming back now."
He mutters into the phone before he turns it off and asks me," What happened?" I asked in almost a whisper, as I could hear how loud my heart was beating. His hands came up to push and tuck my brunette hair behind my ears.
"I need you to be calm right now, darling. Can you do that for me?" He asks carefully, and that just makes me more anxious, to be honest.
"What is it? Spit it out!" I shout at him.
"Your father, Alpha Ezra, just had a heart attack a few minutes ago, love; he is dead."
And just like that, my world stopped. I must have stopped breathing altogether too, since Damon had to shake me out of the frozen stance I was in. "Brynn, stay with me!"
. " No! That isn't true"!
I called; I didn't even notice I had been crying until Damon's hand rose to wipe my tears. My father, the alpha of the pack and the richest man in all of the West, loved me and treated me like his princess. Ever since my mom passed, we have been two peas in a pod, and now Damon is telling me he is gone! No! I can't believe it. "No, he isn't dead; that's not true; maybe he just fainted".
"Brynn," Damon sighed sadly as he tried to comfort me, but I pushed his hands away.
"My dad needs me right now; drive back to the pack!" I shout at Damon, who immediately turns on the ignition of his sports car and races home. I look out the window and stop my tears from falling. Just no! It can't be! Perhaps the report on my father was wrong; it had to be.
My legs shake nonstop in the car until we reach the familiar private lands that belong to my father; he was so kind that he built an empire here, a small city that housed thousands of wolves and was a sanctuary for them.
But the moment I entered the pack's town, I could hardly see anyone on the streets, and I could feel my body get colder the more we neared the mansion that was my home.
And in front of it was a crowd settled there, and what broke my heart was the teary eyes that all of them had as they faced Damon's car, and the moment I stepped out of his car, they all looked at me with pity.
I immediately bolted for the mansion, opening the door and running up the stairs. Brynn, wait!" I heard Damon call me back, but I didn't answer as I ran further up the stairs. Two familiar Gamma guards that were always with my father and guarded him looked up in surprise when they saw me there.
"Where is he?" I stuttered, exhausted, but they both looked at each other as if they were holding back. I rushed toward them and pushed them aside to open my father's bedroom door. "Miss Brynn, don't!"
But I already did, and there he was, pale and peaceful, on his bed. And at his side was Herron Cole, Damon's father and my dad's closest friend. "Oh, sweet child," he muttered to me as I walked toward the bed.
I knelt and reached for my father's hand, which had turned cold and stiff to touch. I laid my head on his chest to look for a sign of life. nothing,
My wolf trashed in agony for the loss of my father and for the loss of my only remaining blood. "Dad, please don't leave me," I muttered in tears as I felt a hand rest heavily on my shoulder.
"He is gone, dear; one moment we were talking, and when I left the room to answer a call, the next moment he had a heart attack!"
Stories, stories, and excuses I would rather not hear,
"And you should have called the doctor immediately!" I shout at Herron, who doesn't reply, and I look at the guards with my anger hot in my body: "What were you all doing? When your Alpha was sick. You are all accomplices to his death."
I raged as the door opened, and Damon immediately ran to my side to hold me down. I felt like I had gone crazy; my body didn't feel like mine; it just felt like a cold shell-an empty, wrecked cold shell.
My father was gone, and I was alone.
What do I do now?

...
School and everything else were stopped for a week, but I didn't need to go; it was already graduation week anyway, and nothing was left to do there. It was the last of my worries.
But my father's pale face haunted me for days. I could not help but get dressed in black and head to the burial, putting a flower on his grave before he was put six feet under and buried in front of my eyes.
I felt hollow inside during the burial and now in a meeting. A meeting about my inheritance and birthright was being discussed just after the burial. I couldn't even hear anything or concentrate on their arguments. By right, I was his only son and daughter, and I was next to be the Luna, but I was a woman, and they still sat on their poor asses, accustomed to the old ways of males leading the pack.
I hated being amid such negligence. "She is the only child and blood relative of Alpha Ezra! She owns everything!" Herron argued while another elder was angry at his claim.
"But she is a female, and she cannot lead us! She hasn't even presented, and all pups are present at sixteen, and she is 20 now. You all baby her because she is Alpha Ezra's child!" Another countered, Noise, noise. I was sick of it-so sick of it that I don't even know when I slammed on the table hard, and the whole room silenced.
"Do you hear yourself? My father's corpse hasn't even stayed buried for more than twenty-four hours, yet you are all talking about his inheritance and bloodline." My body was shaking internally, I was tired from no sleep for the past few days, and what's a newly turned 20-year-old going to do alone?
"But Brynn"
"Enough of this, please," I called out as I stood up from my chair and left the meeting, and Damon was hot on my heels.
"Love, wait up," he called, making a pause and turning to him," let's go back to the meeting."
"No, Damon, I'm tired; I'm so tired I can't do this today." I croaked out as tears began to pour, "I want to be alone. Please."
"Anything for you," he nodded In understanding as he came forward to leave and kiss my head before I went into my room, locking myself as I felt hollow inside still.
And for days, I was hunted by nightmares and night terrors, and my body burned every time I woke up. I kept it a secret because I would rather not be disturbed. My balcony had become my second bed, as I spent most of my time staring at the sky and the large garden closest to my window, where my dad was buried, and I fell asleep most of the time there.
But today was different. I was woken up by Damon, and a part of me felt bad for him whenever I ignored his invitation. "Hi Brynn," he whispered to me as I leaned up in my chair and he kissed my cheeks.
" Damon? What time is it?"
"Around 5 p.m.," he tells me after checking his watch," you have been in here a lot and avoiding me too."
"I have... I'm sorry, I was just thinking a lot."
"I know you have, but you need to clear your head, so let's go out for a ride; the clear air will help you think more, right?" He suggested it, and sometimes I don't have the strength to turn him down.
"Alright," I muttered as I went into my bathroom to take a quick, hot shower. I wore long-sleeve blue shorts and jean shorts, put over a black button-up cardigan, and packed my dark brunette hair into a Low ponytail. As I checked out my blue eyes, which were slightly red from the little sleep I had gotten these past few days, I came out to see Damon checking his watch like he was waiting for something. "Let's go?"
He takes my hand, and we get into his car as we zoom off down the dark roads away from the pack. The sky had gotten darker the further we went; we had never gone so far before, but I was too tired to ask. He handed me a cup of coffee that I sipped along the way to clear my tired eyes, as I was lost in thought until I felt the car jerk roughly.
"Shit," Damon had muttered as the car jerked violently again before it stopped. Damon had then turned off the engine and taken the car roof off as he slipped out of his seat and went out to check the engine out.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"I don't know, it was fine this morning; shit, shit, shit," Damon muttered. I looked around to see we were stranded on an empty road and very far from the pack, and to my utter stupidity, I had left my phone back home.
I come out of the car and ask for his phone, but he says that it's dead. Great.
He suggested that we walk it out, and I didn't complain; I honestly wanted to be back home and hopefully not cry myself to sleep. We'll be ok, promise." He said as he kissed me before he took my hand in his as we walked in the lonely street, I couldn't help but feel the air get chilly with each step I took.
Suddenly, I heard the roar of a car engine speeding roughly as the headlights shined on us, but my feet got colder the closer the truck came, and something felt wrong, so wrong.
The car stopped right in front of us. As a rogue wolf shined his silver-bred teeth at us, I never felt more unsafe in my life as I held tighter to Damon's arm. Hey, pretty lady," one of them smirked, and the other chuckled.
"We don't want any trouble; we just need a ride home," Damon said carefully, but the rouge just laughed.
"Of course I can give a ride to the lady; she can ride me all night," and that made me sick.
"Let's just go," I muttered to Damon as I started walking away from the car. I was tired, my feet ached, and I felt like puking my guts out. I didn't know why I suddenly felt so dizzy, but what I didn't expect were tough arms that held my body in a tight grip. I didn't even hear the person coming up to me so fast.
"Where are you going, princess?" A disgusting voice chuckled out and made my skin crawl, she said.
"Let me go, Damon. Help!" I cried, but there was no reply; maybe they got him too! I wrecked and pushed myself to a run to find that my legs had become weak as I couldn't even lift a hand, and in no time I was captured again by the grimy rouge.
As I struggled to set myself free, my body felt so weak and not like myself; my body wasn't listening to me, and before I knew it, I felt a black bag pulled over my face and a painful, strong punch to the stomach that knocked me out.
"Goodnight Princess" was the last thing I heard before I lost consciousness and everything went black.

...
"Wake up girl" A cold splash of water on my face woke me up as I opened my eyes in a panic to see myself in the dark space of a tiny, rundown wooden cabin surrounded by the three men from the roadside and Damon nowhere in sight.
Oh, moon, what if they have killed him? I thought as my body shivered violently from the cold air that surrounded me. I couldn't move my hands freely as I was bound with a zip tie.
"Who are you? Let me go! Where is Damon?"
"Pleasure to meet you, Brynn Kelly, the jewel of alpha Ezra and the Goldcrest pack ain't that right sweetheart," the rouge says, which catches me by surprise.
"What do you want from me? Is it money? I'll pay you all the money you want; I'll double the price you're asking." I called in a panic, and as I was talking, another person was brought into the room with his head covered, but I could recognize the clothes Damon was wearing earlier; it had to be him!
My kidnapper then raised a gun to Damon's head, with his fingers jarring at the trigger, as he stared at me, and I started screaming, No, I can't have another person I care about dead, and Please, please don't shoot!" I urged, "I'll do anything," and the bastard dared to smile as he called one of his men over to me.
He was holding a piece of paper and a small ink print. "What is all this?" I ask, confused, as they bring the paper closer to me.
"Well, sweetie, I want your fingerprint on that; that is what I want. I will let him go," the rouge wolf says as he pushes the gun on Damon's head.
I immediately reached for the paper with my shaking hand, dipped my hand in the ink, and put my fingerprint on it. I was so desperate to save Damon that I couldn't even read it: Here, take it! Just please don't kill him!"
The rouge took the paper and handed it over to one of his men. "Take it to the boss," he uttered to the younger rouge, who nodded and left. "Take it to the boss," he uttered to the younger rouge, who nodded and left. "Well, sweetie, I have to say you did a good job, so I'll let you see your Damon," he muttered as he opened up the black bag covering Damon's head, but I froze as I saw the face underneath.
It wasn't Damon.
It was someone else completely. Well, princess, you just signed your whole birthright and inheritance off to my contractor, he chuckled as he released his man, who was the one wearing Damon's clothes.
"Where is he? Tell me where he is!" I shouted as the man came forward to grab my hair.
"Shut the fuck up!" he snarled at me as his painful grip tugged hard on my hair. He was so close that I could outline the scars that ran across his face as well as his one good eye that was so cold. "You don't seem to be getting the bigger picture, sweetie; you have been tricked, sweetheart, by your so-called boyfriend."
My world stopped after hearing, "What?"
"Didn't you hear that your boy and his family planned all of this? He played you like a fiddle for your affection, and Boom! You surrender your whole inheritance to him!" He chuckled darkly. I just couldn't believe this; Damon would never! No! No, he can't betray me!
"You might wonder why I'm telling you this; well, it's because you're going to be dead now," he muttered with a grin as he stood up and reached for his gun. "No hard feelings, ok? Goodbye princess".
And all I could do was close my eyes and feel the cold barrels of the gun on my head. I heard the gun click, and there was a loud gunshot, but instead, I felt a warm liquid splash on me. I opened my eyes to see the rouge and his men had been shot dead, and his blood splattered on me while five men in suits stood over their bodies, saying, "Fucking hell, you made a mess."
"This is what they get for betraying the boss, this greedy spineless fool; they went off and collected a contract to fill in their greedy pockets without telling the boss," one of them spat out. "Where is the last guy?"
"He isn't here; don't worry, he is a small fry; we will find him," a man who was their leader says as he faces me. They had finally noticed me.
" Oh? And who might you be?" The scary man asks me as he kneels and pushes my face up by my chin for me to meet his gaze, "Oh? You're a beauty," he muttered to me as he looked at my body. I jerked my face from his hold as he smirked.
My wolf trashed to the surface as my eye changed color to a golden hue. Feisty, I like that, but a beautiful wolf like you can't be wasted; from your eyes, I can tell, you're a rare beauty ripe for the market and will fetch me a lot."
What market? I wondered as I gave him the deadliest glare I could muster, "Let me go; I'm innocent; these men took me away".
"What's your name, girl?" he asks me.
Brynn, "I mutter quietly as I withhold my last name since these people don't know me, and that may get me into worse trouble." So let me go; I'm no one, and I won't say a word about this. I urged the older man, who just hummed in reply before replying.
"No, I can't do it, and by the looks of it, you are about to be killed by him, so unless you want to be dead, you will come with us!" He threatened me, as I had no choice before I was led into a black van. And anything I thought of as freedom was snatched from me.
The car ride for hours as I could hardly keep my eyes open and fell into a deep sleep, I was getting farther and farther away from my home, and I couldn't trust these people, and I had no one; even if I called home, it would be Damon or the Cole family that would get a report on me and will try to kill me again,
Damon, I just couldn't believe it; he betrayed me; he didn't care for my life one bit, and I couldn't help my tears flow hotly from the betrayal to the thought of my dead father and the fact I was alone now. I cried for how miserable my life had become in a span of a few days.
I felt the car stop finally, and footsteps fairly approached the van door as it slid open. I had to. I squinted at the bright eyes of their torchlights. You are right!" A female voice uttered as she handed a briefcase to the man who brought me here.
"See, I told you, as she is a rare beauty, she is all yours now," she called as he checked the case and gave me one last look. "Try to run away, girl, and you're dead meat," he warned before I was dragged out of his van, and he zoomed off, leaving me with the older woman who had gray hair and stared at me with cold eyes.
She wore a black suit, and her hair was packed back in a high-slit ponytail as she smoked a cigarette. Popping smoke from her cherry-painted lips as she peered down at me, I looked around to see five other females who were her bodyguards.
"'Where am I? Let me go."
Oh, you're in a good place, pretty girl; I'm going to make you up so nicely, baby girl," she said to me as she signaled her girls, "Take her away and dress her nicely; we have an auction in a few hours."
Auction? What the heck was she talking about? I wondered to myself as two tall women walked over to me and pulled me up. They led me into a large mansion and down the stairs to the basement, where different doors were lined up. They took me to the last one in the middle, which turned out to be a bathroom. My clothes were already so bad and ruined that I'm sure I had been covered in dirt and rags for a day or two.
"Miss Dorothy!!" One of the guards called to an older woman who was dressing up a girl who didn't look a few years older than me, "We have brought a new girl; we need her dressed up and ready for tonight".
"That fast? I'm surprised she just came today; most girls spend a week or more here".
"She is a rare one, so madam wants her ready for tonight's auction." My body stiffened after those words; there was no way I was going to be sold off like an animal.
"I'll see what I can do," she urged before she took me away. My clothes were removed until I was stark naked and faced Dorothy; thankfully, there was no male here, but I was still embarrassed as my hand flew to cover my private parts and I gave her a glare.
"Your evil eyes will do nothing for you here, girl," she says to me as she scrubs me clean of any dirt. I was led out to another room, where I was dressed in a silky midnight blue gown with a thigh-high. My hair was plaited into one single plait that ran across my back. My neck and ears were left bare of any necklace. "You speak only when you're allowed to, unless you want your tongue to be cut off. Do you understand, girl?"
She called to me as she added me to the line of nine other girls who were dressed. In clothes similar to mine but different colors, they all looked scared out of their minds, and I was too. We had then been marched out to a bigger hall, and I could hear whispers from the other side of the large curtain.
One girl had begun crying quietly but cleaned her tears before the curtain had rolled up and we were led into a stage of bright light facing us and loud cheers from our spectators.
"Welcome, gentlemen, to the blue moon night; today is the auction you have been waiting for! And it starts now!"
I just couldn't believe it. I was in an auction house, and I was about to be sold off to the highest bidder. And in the middle of all that chaos, my eyes met with a pair of Emerald orbs behind a dark mask that stared at me intently, making my heart skip a beat.
Just who were these people, and who was this perfect stranger that sent a shiver up my spine with just one look?
