Chapter 1 One

~Adinah~

The moment my phone finally rang, I practically leaped out of my chair, hastily rushing to answer it. The voice on the other end delivered the message that would alter the course of my life. I could barely contain my anticipation as I thanked the doctor and hurriedly made my way to the hospital.

It was supposed to be the day that would have been my happiest and that of my chosen mate, or so I thought.

Getting into his office, I sat down as instructed while waiting for him, but each tick of the clock echoed my heartbeat, and I couldn't help but glance at the door, waiting for the doctor to emerge with the news I longed to hear.

Finally, the door swung open, and my pulse quickened. He held a report that could unveil my destiny.

"Doctor Martins, tell me it's good news." I pleaded, desperately hoping for a change of fate.

His face was still pale as he stretched his hand out and said, "Why don't you see things for yourself?"

With my hands trembling and a lump in my throat, I accepted the envelope, tearing it open to reveal the words that held the weight of my future.

Tears welled in my eyes as I read the confirmation-a new life was growing within me.

"I'm pregnant?"

"Yes, you are; congratulations, Miss Adinah!" His lips parted into a smile, and I fought the urge to hug him as tears clouded my vision.

"How is this possible? You told me..." I couldn't finish as he cut in.

"Miracles happen, and the goddess was on your side this time." He revealed.

"It is indeed a miracle!"

Nobody understood the countless nights I had prayed but felt like they fell on deaf ears-the partial humiliation I had to face from the councilmen for failing to conceive an heir.

"Alpha Jeremy would be glad to hear this." I added, rising to my feet as gratitude overwhelmed me, and I just had to hug him.

"Nobody would bully us for being barren again!" Dera, my wolf exclaimed, making me want to scream out of the joy at the top of my lungs.

I could already imagine the look of shock mixed with joy on Jeremy's face. We both deserved this.

"You should get something to celebrate on the way," she suggested, and I immediately took a turn to the nearby mart.

In the supermarket aisles, I carefully selected ingredients for a celebratory meal and headed straight home to carefully arrange the tableau at home with a notice card for him while a sense of contentment and happiness filled my soul.

However, as the hours passed without his arrival, a seed of worry sprouted within me.

"Didn't he get my message?" I asked, a weight of worry settling on my heart.

Deciding to ignore the unease, I followed the signal from his phone to our special spot.

"Martins must have told him already," I said, under the impression that he had planned a surprise for me as well, but as I got closer, the sound of moaning grew stronger, making me wonder if my ears were playing tricks on me.

"Do you hear that too?" I asked Dera.

"Yeah, I do, but it can't be him."

I wanted to believe so, but his scent was so dominant that I had to confirm. Getting to the doorstep, his groaning accompanied that of a woman, and my heart sank on the spot.

"It's not him." I repeated.

Jeremy would never do such a thing to me, but I summoned the courage to prove myself wrong since the door was half open.

Right there and then was my supposed mate having the time of his life; his cock was deep into the mouth of a woman whose back seemed too familiar.

Throwing his head back in ecstasy, he moaned, "Fuck, I'm going to nut in your mouth, baby girl."

"You're so fucking good, Sienna; don't stop."

At that moment, time seemed to have stopped, and I staggered backwards, feeling my heart being ripped apart by a dagger in his hands.

How could he do this to me? After all my sacrifices?!

"You fucking bastard!" I screamed, my voice breaking with anguish.

They instantly stopped, and her eyes widened in shock, but neither of them showed a trace of remorse.

Instead, she continued, bumping her head so fast on it that I had to drag her off him and land a slap on her despicable face.

"You think this is a joke, you shameless whore!"

"I'm your best friend, and yet you did this to me!" I yelled.

She let out a bitter chuckle, eyeing me like I was a piece of trash. "Why are you so selfish, Adinah?"

My brows rose in disbelief, wondering where she got her audacity from.

"Selfish?"

"Yes, you've been with him for years now, but there's nothing to show for it."

"Why won't you let another woman come into the picture instead of making him feel less of a man?" She challenged me.

This had to be a dream or something, because there was no way that the woman I would have gladly laid down my life for would utter such awful words to me.

"And that woman had to be you, huh?"

She bragged, wiping his semen off the corner of her lips, "Who else would it have been? I'm the best, and none came close enough, not even you."

I clenched my jaw and threw my hand into the air, ready to give her another resounding slap, but it hung.

"Enough." He warned me in a cold tone.

"Is that all you have to say?" I inquired, still trying to fathom the betrayal and the cruelty of this man.

"Yes, and I won't repeat myself."

I scoffed, ignoring his command and instantly lunging towards her, but he intercepted my advance with a swift blow on my temple. The world spun, and the darkness embraced me.

When consciousness reluctantly returned, my head throbbed as I opened my eyes to the harsh reality of the cold, unfamiliar cell. The cold floor beneath me felt unforgiving, mirroring the chilling truth of Jeremy's betrayal. I could still taste the bitterness of deceit and the remnants of despair as I recalled his merciless words.

"Adinah," a chilling voice echoed, cutting through the silence. I turned to see his cold gaze piercing through the cell bars. His eyes, once a source of comfort, now harboured only malice.

"What do you want?" I hissed, my voice laden with anger and hurt. The man I thought was my chosen mate, my confidant, had orchestrated this nightmare.

"Oh, Adinah, you were always so naive; you didn't think I loved you, did you?" He sneered, revelling in my pain. "I've been using you from the start."

I struggled to comprehend his words, my mind refusing to accept the magnitude of his deception. "Using me? But... our connection, our bond. I literally gave up everything for you!"

"Merely a means to an end, and I never asked for it," he replied, callously dismissing our history. "I needed you to secure control over your pack, and you played right into my hands."

"Why?" I choked on the word, desperate for an explanation that would somehow justify the agony he had inflicted.

"Power, Adinah. The pack belongs to me now," he declared with sinister satisfaction. "And to ensure there are no loose ends, I've arranged a little farewell for you."

He dialled a number on his phone, the sound echoing through the cell. A distorted voice answered, and I strained to hear the conversation unfold. The realisation hit me massively when I recognised the voice on the other end-my father.

"Dad?" I whispered, my heart racing with dread.

Jeremy held the phone in front of me, the malicious grin never leaving his face. I could hear the muffled sounds of struggle and pain, each one a knife stabbing into my heart. "Say goodbye to Daddy, Adinah."

"Dad, no! Please!" I pleaded, my voice breaking. I felt utterly helpless, chained both physically and emotionally.

His laughter filled the air as he disconnected the call. "Such a pity, princess. Your father fought for you until the end."

The weight of despair settled in my chest, suffocating me. Yet, Jeremy wasn't done revelling in my suffering. He produced a vial of poison, his eyes glinting with sadistic pleasure.

"Drink this," he commanded, shoving the vial towards me.

I recoiled, a surge of defiance rising within me. "No, you can't hurt me, my father, or my pack and think you can get away with it; I won't let you win."

He chuckled darkly. "Oh, you have no choice. Drink, or I'll make your demise far more excruciating."

His threats hung in the air, the silence in the cell broken only by the distant echoes of my father's screams. Trembling, I took the vial from his hands, the poison glinting ominously in the dim light. With a final glance at his malevolent eyes, I swallowed the bitter liquid.

The world around me blurred as the poison took effect, but I made a silent prayer to the goddess to hear my plea for justice.

"I'll come back."

"Don't think this is over." My vision dimmed, and the cold cell faded away.

As consciousness slipped away, the last image I saw was his triumphant sneer. He had achieved his twisted victory, leaving me to succumb to the darkness he'd orchestrated, but it was not over till I got my pound of flesh.

Chapter 2 Two

~Adinah~

I opened my eyes to find myself in a strange room as the world spun around me wildly. As I tried to make sense of the odd conflict between my memories and the reality I was seeing, panic tightened its grip around my chest. The room, the smell, and the whole thing were different, so this couldn't be true. Nevertheless, the clear pictures of Jeremy's betrayal continued to haunt me.

Two years prior, my world had crumbled at his deceit, and the pain was etched into my very soul. But here I was, standing in a room that didn't belong to me, surrounded by the subtle fragrance of a pack that was not my own.

Confusion and disbelief clouded my senses as I walked around the room, desperately trying to reconcile my vivid memories with this alternate reality.

In my disoriented state, I stumbled upon the guards outside my door. "What day is it?" I asked, my voice betraying the turmoil within.

Their puzzled looks only deepened my confusion. "Are you alright, Luna?" one of them questioned cautiously.

"I need to know the date. The time," I insisted, my desperation growing.

The guards exchanged uncertain glances before one cautiously replied, "It's the 10th of May, Luna, and it's midday."

May 10th. That day, which will always be remembered as the day Jeremy destroyed my world, However, how could that have happened? Even though I could feel the weight of my past and the hurt of betrayal, my memories and the reality around me didn't match.

Summoned by an unexplainable force, I found myself standing before my father's office. The door creaked open, revealing a room that held both comfort and fear. My father, Alpha Eldrick, sat behind his desk, engrossed in his work. I took a deep breath and entered.

"Dad!" I exclaimed, unable to contain the overwhelming rush of emotions. In an instant, I closed the distance between us, wrapping my arms around him in a tight embrace.

He tensed for a moment, clearly caught off guard, before gently pulling me away. "Adinah, what's gotten into you?"

I gazed into his eyes, my heart pounding as I realised that my father, whom I vividly remembered losing, was alive and well before me. "You're alive!" I uttered, the words almost disbelieving.

A furrow formed on his forehead. "Of course I am. What's this about, my princess?"

Unable to understand anything that was happening, I whispered, "I thought... I thought I lost you."

"It must have been a nightmare."

His concern deepened, and he guided me to a chair. "My darling, you're acting strangely. Did something happen?"

As my father's words sank in, the pieces of the puzzle began to align in my mind. I looked at him, wide-eyed. "Dad, what year am I?"

His confusion mirrored my own, and he replied cautiously, "It's the year 2022. Why?"

If it was really 2022, then it meant I had been granted a second chance. A chance to rewrite my destiny and rectify the mistakes that led me down a path of despair.

"I'm sorry, Dad; my nightmare felt so real."

He smiled, nodding in understanding. "It's fine, and nothing is ever going to happen to any of us, okay?"

"Yes, Alpha."

It was the moon goddess's doing, and if I was correct, this was the point at which he would institute an arranged marriage.

"The Lycan King will be here any moment from now, and you'll have to meet him."

"Be on your best behavior." He added a warning.

"Sure," I agreed, turning to leave, which left him stunned as he called me back.

"You're not going to object?"

I could remember the last time I blew things out of proportion and chose to elope with that jerk of a mistake, but not today.

"Of course not; I believe my father, the alpha, knows what is best for his beloved daughter." I answered with a warm smile, which seemed to have impressed him before I left.

The idea of an arranged marriage seemed daunting, but I knew, deep down, that this was my chance to make things right. As I walked through the familiar corridors of the packhouse, trying to make sense of my newfound reality, I bumped into Sienna.

She looked at me with a smirk, a mockery of the friendship we once shared. The rush of anger surged within me, and it took all my strength to restrain myself from hitting her. Instead, I forced a smile, pretending as if the past had no hold over me.

"Dinah," she drawled, "I heard the news. The Lycan King for an arranged marriage? How delightful."

I raised an eyebrow, suppressing the seething rage. "What's delightful about it, Enna?"

She handed me a note with a sly grin. "Nothing, actually, but Jeremy's waiting for you at our usual spot. It seems like he couldn't wait to see you again."

My fists clenched involuntarily at the mention of his name. I could feel the pull of the past, the memories of heartache tugging at me. But I knew better than to succumb to that darkness again.

"Thanks, but I have other matters to attend to," I replied, maintaining the façade of a composed Luna.

"Alright, just meet when you're less busy."

As she strolled away, her laughter echoed through the corridor, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. However, I couldn't afford to dwell on the past. The guards approached me, their stoic expressions alerting me that something important awaited.

"The Lycan King is waiting, Luna. Your father requests your presence," one of the guards informed me.

With a deep breath, I followed them to the meeting room. The scent of the Lycan King hit me as soon as the door opened. Tall, imposing, and undeniably powerful, he exuded an aura of dominance. His hazel eyes met mine, and for a moment, my wolf stirred within me, sensing something familiar.

What could it be?

"My precious jewel," my father greeted, gesturing for me to join them.

As I approached, the Lycan King studied me with a curious glint in his eyes. "Luna Adinah," he acknowledged, his voice resonating with authority.

"King Killian," I replied respectfully.

I felt the primal instincts within me responding to his presence. My wolf, who is usually wary of strangers, seemed strangely drawn to him.

"Mate."

Our eyes locked again, and a gasp escaped my lips. The scent of his kind lingered in the air, and an inexplicable pull seemed to connect us. But as I looked into his eyes, the truth hit me like a bolt of lightning.

My wolf was right.

"What? He's my second chance, mate? How come I never saw that coming?"

"Because you didn't give him a chance, he would have been part of our brighter future." Dera responded.

"He's going to be now." I assured her.

The meeting unfolded with discussions about alliances, packs, and the prospect of unity between our two powerful packs. Despite my initial reservations, I found myself captivated by his words.

"Your daughter will make a beautiful bride, Your Majesty, and a strong Luna Queen for the kingdom, alongside heirs that would perform better than their father." Killain declared.

He spoke with conviction, outlining a future where our packs could stand united against common threats.

"I trust that she will be in good hands."

"Most definitely, you've nothing to worry about." He glanced at me, his eyes holding me at the spot, and my breath hitched.

As the meeting concluded, the decision loomed before me. Stay true to my father's wishes and forge an alliance with the Lycan King, or entertain the dark pull of the past and meet Jeremy again to die.

Chapter 3 Three

~Adinah~

The encounter with the Lycan King still lingered in my mind when a sudden force pulled me to the side. I found myself facing the wrath of Jeremy, his eyes ablaze with anger.

"Babe, what the hell was that?!" he roared, his voice echoing through the corridor.

The intensity of his anger was evident, but I couldn't let it shake me. Not this time. I took a deep breath, steadying myself, before meeting his gaze. "Jer, calm down. We can't afford a scene here."

"Calm down?" he scoffed, a cruel grin forming. "After you left me standing there like a fool, Explain yourself."

His anger washed over me like a wave, but I refused to be swept away. "I didn't choose this, baby. My father arranged the marriage. I had no say in it."

He glared at me, his nostrils flaring. "And you just go along with it? After everything we've been through?"

My fists clenched, but I couldn't let my emotions betray me. "I wanted to be with you. But my father ambushed me with this arrangement. I had no choice."

His eyes narrowed, studying my face for any sign of deceit. "Your father, huh?"

I nodded, weaving a web of lies. "He threatened me. I wanted to go with you, but he forced me into this."

His anger shifted, and the focus is now on my father. "That bastard! I knew he never liked me."

"He's trying to control my life," I lied, my voice strained. "But I won't let him. I need your help to break free from this."

A twisted satisfaction flickered in Jeremy's eyes. "So, you still want to be with me?"

"Yes, more than anything," I assured him, suppressing the disgust building within me. "But we need to be smart about this. I'll handle my father; you just have to trust me."

His gaze softened, and for a moment, I wondered if he was capable of trust. "I've been waiting for you to come to your senses, Dinah. I knew you couldn't stay away."

I forced a smile, playing my part in this twisted game. "I'll fix everything, my love. Just give me some time."

He nodded, a sense of satisfaction evident on his face. "Make it quick, babe. I won't wait forever."

I thought so.

As he walked away, leaving me standing alone in the corridor, a wave of disgust and regret washed over me. The game with Jeremy was treacherous, but I knew I had to play it carefully. My revenge was a puzzle, and I needed to piece together the right moves.

The first step was to expose Sienna and Jeremy's betrayal. I discreetly tried to have them followed, but my mind raced, contemplating the best way to catch them in the act. Little did I know, while weaving this plan, my father called me over.

In his office, the air hung heavy with a peculiar solemnity. He looked at me with an odd mix of gratitude and pride. "My Luna, you've done the right thing," he said, his tone laden with approval.

His words echoed in my ears. The right thing? Was it right to sacrifice my own happiness-my chance at revenge-just to please him? I pushed aside my internal turmoil and forced a smile. "Thank you, Dad. I just want what's best for the pack."

He nodded, his expression becoming more serious. "That's exactly what I wanted to talk to you about. The Lycan King has declared he's leaving. The tension between werewolves and lycans is too much for him to bear, and he believes it's time for him to go."

Panic surged within me, a storm threatening to consume my carefully crafted plans. "Leaving? But... I thought we were supposed to strengthen the alliance. Why now?"

My father's gaze softened, and he placed a hand on mine. "Our relationship with Lycans has always been strained. The King's departure is inevitable, and we need to accept it. You, too, should be prepared to move on."

Move on?

"Pack your bags. The car is waiting for you outside," he instructed, unaware of the internal turmoil he had ignited.

"Alright, father."

My bags were hastily packed by the maids, and I was thrust into a car, the engine humming with anticipation. The car idled for what felt like an eternity, my anxiety building with each passing moment. The door swung open, and a figure stepped in, making my heart race faster.

The fact that we were friends didn't make him share the same shock. Instead, a cold indifference settled over his features. "Adinah," he acknowledged, his voice devoid of warmth.

"King Killian," I replied, my mind racing to comprehend the unexpected twist in my fate.

He took a seat, his eyes avoiding mine. "Let's get one thing straight. I will never love you, so don't expect it."

I felt numb when I heard the declaration, as well as a mix of relief and disappointment. My plan of retaliation hung barely, and there was nothing I could do to stop it from falling.

My father's power over me, my chance for revenge, and the distance between me and the pack all grew as the car drove away. However, the bitter truth of an unwanted partner persisted, and I found myself in a future where finding love and getting even seemed equally elusive.

"Tell him the same thing back; we are not here to love." Dera stated.

I couldn't help it. A burst of laughter escaped me, echoing in the confined space of the car. The absurdity of my situation, the unexpected twist of fate, and the irony of it all struck me like a cruel joke.

"You find this amusing?" King Killian's voice cut through my laughter, his eyes narrowing in confusion.

I took a moment to compose myself, wiping away a stray tear from the corner of my eye. "Sorry, it's just... This whole situation is a bit surreal, don't you think?"

He remained stoic, unmoved by my amusement. "Surreal or not, we have to deal with it. What do you want?"

His straightforward question lingered in the air. What did I want? The car rolled on, and I looked out of the window, contemplating my answer. Love? Companionship? No, those were never on my list.

"I don't want love, commitment, or any of those romantic ideals," I said, meeting his gaze. "What I want is revenge."

His eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "Revenge? Against whom?"

I sighed, deciding to unravel the web of deceit that bound me. "Against those who wronged me-those who betrayed me."
