She must be willing to separate for the wishes of her stepmother's extended family. Damian did not accept Evelyn's decision and tried to approach her again. Evelyn rejected Damian and then approached the man who had been close to her. As it turns out, this marriage has something to do with the past between the three of their extended families which is very tragic. Can Evelyn uncover who is responsible for their past? Can Damian accept the reality he has to go through?

Chapter 1 Marriage agreement

The tilting of the cloth left and right forced Evelyn to cluck and move closer to the wearer. She lowered her head, slowly correcting the position until the cloth looked neater again. Isabel, the owner, as well as the person wearing the cloth, chuckled with laughter. I didn't expect Evelyn, who usually never cared, to now step in to fix the dress she was wearing.

Evelyn stood, patting her palms to get rid of the dust that might have stuck there. Her eyes cynically faced her best friend and half-sister, who was still chuckling indifferently. She thought this was funny.

"What time is the reception?" Evelyn asked quietly. Isabel squared her shoulders. Her head turned back. The look in her eyes told Evelyn to ask the man standing at the back, near the entrance. The man stood tall, wearing a black tuxedo and a hairdo shaped to reveal his white forehead. A man who just stood without any expression on his face.

Evelyn did not continue her curiosity. She would rather ask the organizer than have to ask the man. Evelyn turned around and swiftly cleaned up the makeup tools she had been using. Isabel walked slowly toward Evelyn. She hugged her best friend from behind and whispered softly in her ear. "Thank you, Evelyn. Thank you for everything."

Isabel released the hug and walked out of the room, leaving the man who had been staring blankly at the corner of the room and turning to Evelyn's figure.

The man let out a long sigh, hoping Evelyn would hear him and then ask him. Apparently, no. The woman seemed to be busy opening her cellphone and replying to a chat that seemed to have been neglected since a few hours ago.

"I hope we will be like before again," said the man, breaking the silence. Evelyn turned her head, ignoring the cell phone that lit up her notification. Her eyes moved in all directions to make sure he didn't go any further. She really wanted to look unconcerned. Not caring about what the tall man in front of her said.

"I still expect you, Evelyn," the man said again. Without waiting for Evelyn's response, the figure left the woman, who worked as a makeup artist. Her hands trembled, looking down slowly. One or two drops of tears fell down her cheeks. Her eyeballs turned red, and soon her nose began to get tight. The tears that fell began to make her face turn sad little by little.

She thought that by letting the man be with her best friend, her life would be happy. But it wasn't. She did the wrong thing. Her life was messed up, and her life changed. Since two years ago, she has let go of her ex-boyfriend for the sake of her best friend, who was left by her boyfriend.

The moans and tears that came every night could not shake her desire to let go of her former lover. The tightness was always present every time he looked at her sad face. The sad face that has always accompanied her day for the past five years.

Evelyn blinked away her tears and then reapplied a light powder on her beautiful face. Today was Isabel's special day, and she didn't want to show that sad face. A smile spread across Evelyn's thin lips. A smile full of enthusiasm would change all her thoughts from this very second.

"I'll get over it."

Evelyn walked into the large room where the special event was taking place. The room was filled with beautiful, colorful decorations with rose flowers arranged neatly on the right and left of the room. As far as the eye could see, Evelyn was mesmerized and amazed by what she saw at the moment. Isabel was a perfectionist who prepared everything carefully.

Evelyn still remembered that when she and Isabel were teenagers, Isabel once said that she wanted her wedding to be celebrated in a big way. A royal princess-style party with lots of flower decorations and fancy accessories. According to her, a wedding party should be celebrated only once in a lifetime, and it should be festive so that it can be remembered. Evelyn smiled sadly if she remembered Isabel's words at that time.

Five steps closer to the aisle, Evelyn stopped her steps. Her chest tightened again, seeing the bride and groom standing in front of her, exchanging intimate glances and sweet smiles as several people greeted her. Not only that, the groom was also seen several times holding Isabel's hand tightly as if he didn't want to let go.

Evelyn took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly. She tried to get rid of all her memories and feelings for her former lover, and she continued her steps, accompanied by a sweet smile that she spread in all directions.

"Congratulations on your new life. I'm happy for you," Evelyn said flatly. Isabel hugged Evelyn and patted her back gently while rubbing it. Evelyn could hear Isabel sobbing behind the tight embrace. "Don't cry; it will wear off." Evelyn joked.

Both of them chuckled. Isabel lightly punched Evelyn's arm, making the girl laugh out loud. The two of them threw smiles at each other and then said goodbye. Evelyn didn't say much to her former lover, who had been silently watching her and Isabel's behavior.

"I can't be sure. But I'll try to come," Evelyn promised. Isabel squealed with delight. She hugged Evelyn back and said the same words in her ear: 'Thank you'.

Evelyn did not want to linger in the aisle. It felt too claustrophobic if she still stayed there. She quickly descended the aisle stairs and continued her steps towards the dining area. The girl seemed to be sorting out what she wanted to eat. Her hand went along the tray containing the food she liked. Her face lit up as her eyes met the neatly arranged rows of dim sum. "Wow, dimsum," she murmured softly.

Her tiny hand clasped one dimsum, but suddenly someone pushed her gently to the side while grabbing the clamp in Evelyn's hand roughly. Not accepting that the clamp was taken by force, Evelyn glared, snatched back the clamp, and pushed the person. She also stomped on his foot until the person groaned in pain. Not feeling guilty, Evelyn casually put three pieces of dim sum along with the sauce onto the plate she was carrying.

"Hey, take responsibility!!!" she shouted, referring to the person Evelyn had stepped on her foot earlier. As it turned out, he was a tall man with a pretty handsome face. The man, who looked like a playboy, was looking for prey.

Because she felt called, Evelyn turned her head. "You called me?" asked Evelyn. One finger pointed at her chest, pointing at herself.

The man who had called out suddenly felt frozen in place. He was stunned to see Evelyn's beautiful face, which seemed to force him to continue looking at her. The man's hand stretched out to invite Evelyn to get acquainted. The face, which was originally stiff and rough, turned warm and soft. "Meet me; my name is Kevin. May I know your name?"

"What for?" asked Evelyn curtly.

"Who knows, we can get closer after today," Kevin replied confidently. Evelyn also returned Kevin's hand, which invited him to get acquainted.

"My name is Evelyn. Nice to meet you."

Evelyn left without saying another word. Meanwhile, Kevin was still frozen in place, not realizing that the woman he was introduced to had disappeared from his presence. A smile lay neatly on his lips, which continued to mutter quietly, mentioning Evelyn's name.

"She's beautiful."

Chapter 2 Meet him

The beautiful woman Kevin saw some time ago at his best friend's wedding didn't make the twenty-something forget her. The image of her haughty and icy face made him want to know more. In his head, there was only Evelyn's face and Evelyn again. Once he almost dropped his coffee cup that was still puffing smoke just because he imagined for a moment Evelyn's face and hallucinated if only she came and kissed his lips.

Ah, just a dirty thought. In fact, even today, almost a week since the meeting, Kevin doesn't dare to find out where Evelyn is.

"Evelyn. Does Damian know her?" muttered Kevin.

He rubbed his hand lightly on his chin as he imagined Evelyn's face again. "If I could get to know her better, would she want to?" he concluded. Kevin closed his eyes and started his sleep, which was disturbed by his strange dream.

It looks like fortune has come again to Kevin, who is looking forward to the next meeting with the idol. Who else, if not Evelyn? The woman who made him stunned froze for a while just by hearing her stern voice.

To be precise, he fell in love with Evelyn's stubbornness and haughtiness.

Just in time for lunch, when London was at its busiest, appeared the figure who had soothed Kevin's heart in the past. Nestled in the corner of a famous café in central London, their eyes met again for the second time. Evelyn and Kevin. Charming round eyes with seductive curved corners and a brief, economical smile drove Kevin crazy for the umpteenth time.

"Evelyn? Right, her name is Evelyn?" Kevin said this while pointing at the flat, unmoving face in front of him. Evelyn nodded. She continued to casually sip her favorite latte without budging an inch. Kevin didn't feel awkward at all. He recklessly sat in front of Evelyn with a silly smile. "Can I join you?" he asked again.

Evelyn raised her head to look at Kevin, who was still smiling at her. "Yes. Please." Evelyn nodded. Kevin sat down and immediately ordered the food he wanted. While waiting for the order, his eyes could not escape from the food and drinks that Evelyn was eating.

"Carbonara and latte."

"Like the carbonara?" asked Kevin, starting the conversation again. Evelyn stopped chewing and replied, "Not really; I just happened to be in the mood for carbonara."

"Rude as usual."

Finally, Kevin's food arrived. Kevin was in a hurry to eat his meal because he saw his lady love getting ready to pack her bag and looking for her purse in the small bag she was carrying. Kevin blocked Evelyn's hand and stopped her movement. Evelyn glared. She pushed Kevin's hand away and put it next to hers. "Excuse me? Why is your hand blocking mine?"

Kevin was suddenly awkward. He scratched the back of his head, and soon his teeth popped out, accompanied by Kevin's trademark smile. "I'll pay."

Kevin quickly stood up and walked to the counter. As he spoke, his hand occasionally went to Evelyn's table, and the cashier nodded as if she understood what he was talking about. Not long after, Kevin returned to the table and continued his meal, which seemed to be running out. Evelyn frowned, feeling strange about what the man she had only met twice was doing.

"How much do I have to pay?" Evelyn snapped. Kevin shook his head. Smiling slowly, he pulled something out of his wallet. A rectangular piece of paper shaped like a card. Evelyn frowned again. She took one business card and read it. Evelyn muttered, under her breath, Kevin's full name. "Kevin Fancher, business consultant. Want to propose a partnership? But you seem to have the wrong target."

Kevin laughed. He hastily gulped down the lemon tea and swallowed all the food he had chewed. "I have a marketing face. I'm giving you this business card so you can know who I am and what I do." Kevin said.

Evelyn pressed her lips together, thinking for a moment what Kevin meant by wanting to be recognized by her. "Don't be so bitchy. Smile; it's prettier." Kevin pulled the edges of Evelyn's lips up a few centimeters.

Evelyn brushed off Kevin's hand and put the business card in her wallet.

"How much food did I eat?" asked Evelyn once again. Kevin shook his head again. "Don't make me angry," threatened Evelyn. Kevin laughed at the threat, which didn't sound scary but instead adorable. "No need to laugh."

"There is no need to get paid. How about we get to know each other better?" said Kevin as he extended his hand, asking for the beautiful woman's handshake.

Evelyn returned Kevin's handshake and mentioned her full name and profession. "Evelyn Cruz. Just call me Evelyn, a beauty consultant and also th owner of one of the famous beauty courses in London," said Evelyn, bragging.

Kevin nodded and then mentioned his data, the same as Evelyn earlier. "Kevin Fancher. Just call me Kevin or Kev, a business consultant who owns one of the famous workshops in Wembley just like you." Kevin ended his introduction and removed his handshake.

After exchanging greetings and business cards, Evelyn said goodbye. Her busy schedule forced her to resume her routine, especially if not as a consultant. Not wanting to lose track again, Kevin took the initiative to take Evelyn to her workplace. Evelyn refused, but Kevin still forced her.

It's not Kevin's name if he just gives up. With his ability to lobby many businessmen, he also practiced it on Evelyn.

"Well, it looks like it's getting dark," Kevin joked. Soraya stood next to him, right in front of the mall lobby door. Her hand repeatedly opened her cell phone, looking for an online taxi booking application. Repeatedly, she tried to order, but she was also rejected. Evelyn was getting restless. The meeting will start in an hour, but she has yet to leave the mall, which is located quite far from her office.

"If you don't mind, I can take you to your destination," Kevin said again. Now he was bravely offering to help Evelyn. He thought this was the right time to get to know his future love interest.

Evelyn turned her head. She thought for a moment but finally nodded. Kevin, who had guessed that his invitation would be accepted, quickly pulled Evelyn's hand towards the car park in the basement of the mall. It didn't take long; he invited Evelyn to get in while he walked to the back of the car to put the equipment he had brought into the trunk.

"You know the Galaxy Building?" asked Evelyn. Kevin, who was busy putting on his seat belt, looked over and nodded. Soraya breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness."

"You have an office there?" asked Kevin. His hands turned the steering wheel, and soon the car was slowly driving out of the parking lot.

Evelyn nodded and said, "Yes. You know, right?"

"I know. My client works there," Kevin replied casually.

Evelyn didn't know what kind of conversation she should have with Kevin. It was a little awkward to ask about personal things, especially those concerning lovers or life friends. More precisely, love life. The quiet atmosphere enveloped both Kevin and Evelyn in their respective reveries. Kevin's left hand felt the dashboard, looking for the music player button. One song that he often played when accompanying the trip accidentally played and made the two of them turn their heads to each other.

"You like old songs?" Evelyn slightly squealed, asking Kevin, and he just nodded with a smile. "Just like my late mom."

Kevin turned his head again. He caught a glimpse of Evelyn's lips, which curled into a smile, and then returned flat as usual. Kevin stuck out his hand, looking for a tissue box, because he was sure that Evelyn would shed her tears this time. "Sorry, I made you cry."

"You didn't. I'm the one who's whiny."

Kevin racked his brain for something appropriate to ask Evelyn. It felt strange to just be silent with each other. Suddenly, Isabel popped into his head. "Are you Isabel's friend or Damian's?"

Isabel was a little surprised, but quickly shook it off. She answered carefully, "I'm Damian's friend. So what?" Evelyn's question made Kevin shake his head. He wondered if this was bothering him.

"No, it's not. Just asking because if you're Isabel's friend, we should have met and known each other," Kevin replied.

"Are you Isabel's friend?" Kevin nodded. "Ooww...."

"I heard that Damian has an ex-girlfriend, and she told him to marry Isabel. Is that true?" Kevin asked curiously. Evelyn was a little surprised. This story should not have gotten out anywhere, and someone must have spread it because only she and Isabel's family knew everything.

"I don't even know. Where did you find out?" Evelyn asked back.

"Isabel's brother. If I'm not mistaken, her distant cousin," Damian replied. Evelyn was surprised again. This time, there was a look of fear behind her eyes that slightly avoided Kevin.

"Who did he tell you about?" Evelyn asked again to make sure. If Kevin had said cousin, it would have been Anna talking to him.

"No. Isabel immediately smothered her mouth. If I knew her, I would have cursed her out," he said passionately. Evelyn frowned, turned her head, and waited for Kevin's additional answer. "Because he's stupid. Letting go of the person she loves for someone else."

Kevin's answer jolted Evelyn's heart. How could this stranger, who didn't know her, speak the truth and take her side, even though his tone was a little harsh? He is a fool, Evelyn thought. Indeed, she was stupid for giving Damian up for someone else. But did anyone else know the reason why she acted the way she did?

There was silence again. The song stopped. Right at the crossroads, Kevin's car turned into the courtyard of the Galaxy building. "Ah, here we are. Welcome back to work," Kevin said. Soraya slowly unbuckled her seatbelt and straightened her slightly revealing shirt.

Evelyn looked down and said, "Thank you. Next time, I'll treat you to a meal. Do you mind if I invite you?"

Kevin nodded and replied, "Of course not. I'd be happy to come."

Evelyn opened the car door and closed it again. Soon the car started to move, and from inside the car, Kevin could be seen waving his hand with a smile at Evelyn, and she waved back.

Evelyn was still standing in front of the entrance with her eyes looking up at the sky, where the clouds were slowly circling the sky. There was a curved corner there that she could see with her naked eye. A beautiful and exquisite arch that makes anyone's heart marvel. The colorful arch made Evelyn's eyes blessed.

"Am I stupid?"

Chapter 3 Doesn't bring happiness

Damian slammed the car door roughly, venting all the anger that had hit him today. His upset and overflowing emotions seemed insufficient to patch up the problems that plagued him day after day. His smile was gone. Just as he entered his bedroom, Isabel, who was sitting and applying makeup, was knocked out of her chair by her husband.

"Damian is home." Isabel asked. She took off the mask on her face and rushed over to her husband, who was standing in front of his wardrobe.

"Prepare some warm water. I'm going to take a shower," he said curtly. Isabel nodded. She ran into the bathroom and immediately prepared a bathtub for her husband. This was Isabel's daily duty as a good wife. But not even five minutes in, Damian shouted, and Isabel almost fell backwards. "Hurry up! I want to take a bath."

"Yes, one moment." Isabel answered Damian's shout.

Damian, who was impatient, forced himself into the bathroom shirtless. Isabel turned her head and looked at him until she didn't realize that she was staring at him. Damian ignored Isabel's condition and looked at him adoringly. He was more concerned with the bath that his wife had prepared.

"Prepare the food. I'm hungry and want to eat dinner as usual," Damian ordered, to which Isabel immediately nodded. "Don't forget the drinks in my favorite glass."

Isabel was silent. Her chest trembled slightly, as if she wanted to spill something out of herself. It wasn't impossible that she wanted to pretend to be strong right now, but reality told her to scream. Isabel took a deep breath and then exhaled softly. Patting her chest, she answered Damian's command, "Yes."

As a good wife, of course, Isabel wanted to be appreciated by her husband. From cooking and cleaning the house to serving other needs, Damian was not the romantic type of man who would praise his wife every day. He was the cold type of man whose every action had to fulfill his wishes. Even for the smallest things.

After finishing his shower and getting dressed, Damian followed Isabel to the dining room. He pulled out a dining chair and sat next to Isabel. He devoured the portion of food Isabel brought him without much complaint. He only repeatedly sipped warm water because his tongue was spicy.

"The day after tomorrow, you go to the office. There is the inauguration of the new building, and the office is holding a Thanksgiving event," Damian said quietly while chewing his favorite omelet.

Isabel's eyes lit up with happiness. This was the first time she had been invited and introduced to Damian in his office. Previously, he had never invited her even once since they got married.

"Yes. Can I wear the dress I bought yesterday?" Isabel asked. Her eyes were still sparkling when she looked at Damian, who was still busy munching on food. Damian nodded, and that brought a smile to Isabel's lips. Her heart warmed slightly at how he slowly replied to her words.

"Don't be too conspicuous," Damian added.

"Not really," Isabel replied, smiling sweetly.

Suddenly, Isabel's senses were distracted by the scene in front of her. Damian sipped his warm milk with a smile and occasionally pecked the glass. Realizing that he was being stared at, Damian glanced sadistically until Isabel gasped and lowered her head.

"Why did you look at me like that?" snapped Damian. Isabel shook her head slowly and shook her hand.

"Do you like that glass? I saw you smiling the whole time," Isabel pointed at Damian's favorite tall glass. It was a red glass with the words 'I love you' and lip marks on the rim. Damian lifted the glass and tapped it gently while showing the writing.

"This was a gift from Evelyn on my birthday. Three years ago, and it's very special. Usually, I display this glass on my desk, but for some reason, I miss this glass lately," Damian said at length. Indirectly, he said he missed Evelyn, who gifted him the glass.

"Evelyn?" muttered Isabel softly. Her heart felt crushed to hear her husband praising and longing for another woman. Even though it was a former lover, couldn't Damian keep it to himself?

Ignoring Isabel, who was silent while mumbling, Damian took a glance and asked, "You didn't eat?" Damian asked casually. Isabel shook her head. The hunger in her stomach suddenly disappeared. "You'll blame me for getting sick."

"Sis, can you understand my feelings? Just one time, please. I am your wife," Isabel protested. She ran while holding back the tears she had been holding back. Her chest was so tight that she was jealous and angry.

Isabel dropped her body on the bed. Her body was tired of Damian's attitude; he never noticed her presence. Isabel cried so hard that her tears soaked up the blanket covering her. Let her be called a drama queen; in reality, it was her husband who made her like this.

Not only once, but even every time Damian talked to her, there would be sentences that praised Evelyn and compared her to him. Damian, it turns out, still harbors longing for another woman who is his former lover. Can't her husband just glance at her without any past frills?

"Why does it have to be Evelyn? Every day, he only talks about Evelyn, missing her, and even keeping the items she gave him. How great is Evelyn in his eyes?" Isabel ranted. She repeatedly wiped the tears from her cheeks. Her hands clenched into fists, hitting the pillows and blankets and punching them repeatedly. She hated this situation.

"Have you had enough anger?" Damian's voice suddenly interrupted Isabel's thoughts. She turned around. Damian was standing right behind her with his hands stuffed into his pants pockets. Isabel spluttered.

"I just want you not to be like that anymore, sis. You know that I'm jealous. I don't want you to mention another woman's name in our household, even if it is Evelyn," Isabel cried. She got up from the bed, walked over to Damian, and hugged him from the side. "You love me, right?"

Damian frowned, looking lazily at Isabel, who was clinging to him. He wanted to let her go, but he couldn't. "Whatever you want," Damian replied bitterly.

In the warm embrace, Isabel smiled as she closed her eyes. She was sure that someday her husband would change.

The clock on the wall reads one o'clock at night. Isabel had fallen asleep and entered her dreams five hours ago. The hug ended with their usual nightly activities before bed. Although Damian did not love Isabel, he did not forget his obligation to provide for his wife.

Damian could not close his eyes. His mind was still wandering somewhere. One thing that still made him uneasy was Evelyn's decision to leave him and force him into a relationship with Isabel. He couldn't figure out what was on Evelyn's mind to break up with him after five years together.

Damian moved to leave Isabel. He covered his wife's body so she wouldn't get cold. He walked to his office and sat in his proud chair while staring at a beautiful frame with a photo of him and Evelyn smiling sweetly. The last photo he took was right when he got engaged to Evelyn.

"Evelyn. I still love you," he murmured.

He stroked the picture and kissed it for a moment. Imagine that face in front of him right now. He really missed Evelyn. His chest suddenly tightened. He put the picture down while his hands covered his face. Damian cried.

"How can I get rid of these feelings for you if every day only your image fills my head?" he scolded himself.

"How can I leave the memories we've made?" she raged. Damian hit his desk, causing the picture to bounce around. Damian continued to cry until he didn't realize that behind the door of the room was a figure whose heart was also screaming in pain at his cry.

"What should I do?"
