The Last Page is Different!

News Flash: "Beware of the weather! Storm and strong cyclone! For their own protection, people are encouraged not to leave their homes!"

*Elevator bell rings* "Floor number 12"

A tall man, about 6.3 feet tall, with black hair and dark green eyes, dressed up in grey paint and a light blue shirt, stepped in from the elevator, and bellowed, "Not even in this weather we get a day off!" as the door opened with a boom. "Dr. Yu, did she come back?" he asked the assistant sitting outside the door. "It's critical! An emergency! They want her to arrive on the scene right away"

The TV remote hit the table with a loud thud, just as Rey was losing his mind with the assistant.

"I remember telling you I hate loud noises, Rey?".

The room hushed as Rey let out a gasp. "I wasn't actually expecting you here, Dr. Yu". The man who had just been screaming out of his lung, suddenly stopped breathing for a moment, as if he was scared to breathe aloud in her presence.

"What's the matter?"

Rey still had a trace of wrath on his face when Yu Jane asked quite calmly.

"It's a murder case. They want YOU there right away, close to the Sothern Waters! They can't be serious enough to send you there ALONE in this weather for such a small case! The higher officials issued an order to send YOU there... as the entire department is busy with a riot happening because of the election. Their motivations are crystal clear. Dr. Yu, they want your death.... THEY WANT YOU DEAD... even a child can predict what they are planning!"

"It's not like I have fewer enemies, anywhere I live someone or else is gonna try to kill me," she said with a silent smile. "Just call me Jane when we are alone"

"...... Jane... they are either underestimating you.... or they have a very solid plan sure enough to take you down, and they are fully confident about it. If it's the latter... Jane...I...."

Yu Jane chuckles. "Though I'm sure they all want me dead, especially considering how many tails I stepped on to, I'm not even sure which it is". She spoke slowly as she peered out the window, where the rain was falling as if it was mourning for a loved one's departure.

"Wow! They must be genuinely detesting me... It would be fun if they could really kill me."

Rey could never comprehend this insane lady he worked for. He admires her ability to investigate cases, but she goes mad when things become difficult because she enjoys the thrill it gives. Even if she is insane, she is the very person who saved his life when he was abandoned by his father too as soon as his mother ran away from home because of her affairs. She took him home, helped him study, and even hired him as her assistant. She was someone he could only see in the light, not daring to demand anything more than friendship, simply someone who could stand quietly behind her and thank her with his devotion.

Rey stood there astonished observing how calm she was despite their evident desire to harm her. After tinkering and considering, he said quietly, "So you are going?"

Yu Jane turned around, smiling. "Of course, who would miss such a fun event?"

Five minutes later, the car wheels strutted along the road like a fast and furious movie.

The rain poured without compassion on the living things as if it were the end of the world. Wearing a raincoat, Rey held an umbrella over the car's door and escorted Yu Jane out.

"This is awful. Looking at this place, my OCD is definitely kicking in! These crooks don't seem to care about aesthetics anymore!"

She instantly grabbed Rey's collar and pulled him in a very close hug and whispered in his ear, "Leave! Go! Find me in my place tonight; if you don't see me there by morning..." After a moment of hesitation, she continued, "you know what to do and how to do. Leave as soon as I let go of you".

She pulled away, wiping her lips nonchalantly and saying with very flirty eyes. "Hon! It was just my impulse to kiss you in this lovely weather. Now! Get! Lost! I am gonna work!" She turned back and went inside, clutching the umbrella she had grabbed from Rey's hands, while secretly passing down her home office key.

Rey was afraid to leave her alone after realizing the situation, but he was also hesitant to contradict her order. After all, Rey is the only one who knows her computer's password, and if he dies here, no one will know who is behind it all. He sprinted back to the car, murmuring, "You are the only one I have...! If you die here..... You better return safely!"

Heels sound echoed in the place under the bridge near the Southern Waters where above the bridge the rain made sure even if someone cried for help, it will not be heard by anyone. "I can even hear my own breathing. Crime Scene? Immediately inspection? Where are the policemen? What a boring plan... you people should come up with something that can excite me next time" she said casually twisting the time-turner pendant on her neck. "Is that why you sent your lover away? he looked good... my boys would have had fun... playing with him" a voice came from the flickering light under the bridge.

A group of men walked from who knows where with cigarettes in their hands which was nauseating to Jane. She knitted her eyebrows with a hint of anger when she heard him speak about Rey. A woman wearing a red dress which was barely covering anything in her body pasting herself all over the tall man of around 50 years old laughed coquettishly and said "If I were you... I wouldn't have let that man go. Maybe I'm smart enough to know that I should not walk around alone knowing there's a danger" for which the man holding her in every inappropriate place in front of those men replied, "that's why I like smart women like you".

Jane was nearly puking by the scene she was seeing in front of her and said under her breath "going home... I will tell Rey to bring holy water to wash my eyes and ears". Unable to control herself, Jane laughed which echoed the whole bridge and said "I may not be smart enough like you ma'am, after all, I'm just a graduate of The West Bridge University with a gold medal, earning enough to buy a dress that can cover my body" she seized that woman up and down and continued "Darling! I'm not your typical heroine... who needs a male lead to come and rescue me. I can handle your whole bunch of cockroaches. Where were you all hiding?" Yu Jane was casually strode along the corners of the bridge with a face that was distorted looking at the filth "don't tell me whoever probed and sent you here to kill me is so poor that you people had to hide in sewage? really? c'mon man! They should give you more money to kill me! It's not an easy task you know." she removed her overcoat slowly and folded it carefully while the entire team opposite to her were fuming in anger at her sarcasm. "Don't think of yourself so highly! if by end of today, my boys didn't remind you that you are nothing but a filthy woman, I will kill them all myself!" the man roared pushing that woman he was holding aside. "Boys! Go and do whatever. I want to see her begging me for her life" he sat on the stone and lighted that cigar which smelled just like sewage.

Not caring about anything he said, Jane slowly folded her overcoat and found a place that was clean and placed on it. Hearing footsteps from behind, she turned around to see those men walking toward her holding bats and wooden logs in their hands. "Goodness dear! I have OCD. Let's keep it clean ok?" she ignored them and removed the white formal shirt she was wearing and turned to place it over her overcoat revealing the black sports bra which clumsily covered her dragon tattoo on her right arm coiling all over her right arm from her shoulder to wrist and a flying phoenix on her back which faced the sky opening its wings wide on her shoulders. Jane moved her arms to stretch slowly making the tattoo look like the phoenix is ready to fly. "Shall we start?" she smiled slowly turning towards them.

A few hours later, no matter how much the rain washed those blood, it was continuously staining the whole place red.

The boss who was boosting a few moments ago was crawling backwards screaming, "I'm telling you... STOP! I will tell you all. Everything! Let me go! It was the 3 of those ministers whose children you arrested in a r*pe case last month." Jane, walking slowly bent down and lifted a hockey bat that was laying near a body with who knows how many broken bones. Realizing what she is about to do, that man started screaming "It was them! they wanted you dead! They gave us the pre-payment and told us that they will pay the remaining after we kill you! and it was 3 million dollars.. that's why we are here! I told you everything! now let me go!" his voice broke out of fear a hundred times before he could finish telling everything. She sat next to him and said in a very low voice "just for 3 million? I worth more than that, you know?". she played with her time-turner pendant switching off hidden camera in it for few seconds and smirked at him saying "I got what I wanted but my pride hurts! you know... I can't let you go alive from here!"

A loud scream tore the sky, immediately masked by the pouring rain. Jane stood up and walked to the edge where she kept her dress and wore it back neatly. Her hand which was dusting the coat suddenly stopped as she realized there was a person missing. For some unknown reason, Yu Jane felt nervous. With a sharp hearing, she knew the direction the person was approaching her. She turned around and immediately flinched. "Those old men were disgusting! You killed all of them and by killing you, 3 million and more are mine now!" the woman in red said looking straight into Jane's eyes. "I was not expecting this. Finally something... interesting!" a big smile emerged on Jane's face as the woman walked away wiping off the fingerprints from the knife and keeping it in the old man's hand. That was what Jane saw last before she closed her eyes.

Rey was walking anxiously in the main hall of Night Palace. Jane named her home "The Night Palace" as she only goes there for sleeping and stays all the time at her office. The clock's sound was loud that it was disturbing the minds of the people who were now there seated. Dr Lin who was waiting equally anxious as Rey suddenly stood up and pointed his watch which lighted upon rising. "It's 3 in the morning. We gotta do something! I have surgery in the morning, I can't stay here for long too. Rey! We should go and search for her; she was never this late! You...

of all people... really gonna stand here, do nothing, and just wait as she told you to? What if she is dead by the morning?". Rey who was walking restlessly paused and turned to Dr Lin "Pack your needs. We are going to the Southern Waters." then he turned to Jenna, their office assistant and said, "Call the headquarters and inform them of the news and tell them to dispatch a search team immediately."

Unknown to the time, Jane's state was shifting between consciousness and trance. Slowly as her mind oscillated, she heard people running toward her screaming someone's name loudly which she could hardly recognize and when she regained her consciousness back, she saw people running towards her saying her name which she could recognize. Dr Lin and Rey immediately took her to the ambulance and were holding their breath to save her. "Hang On! Don't Give UP! Can you hear my voice? Do you know who I am?" Rey was practically screaming in her ears to keep her consciousness on hold. "Goodness Rey! You're loud AF." After a moment of silence, Ying Min again said "I think I just saw heaven! People were running towards me. They all looked worried. They called me something... I don't remember." she then continued without a pause "Rey, you know what to do. I got the recording and statement but the person who stabbed me isn't that old man. It's that woman in red. You must find her... also my dog, Bell... she doesn't like to sleep alone. Keep her close." Rey didn't expect her to say so many things in a single breath and the fear could be seen in his eye. "Save it! When you get better, tell the remaining. No more crap out of your mouth!" for which Jane hummed with a smile and laid down not moving anymore. The ambulance reached the hospital and the nurses who were waiting rushed the stretcher to the door and carefully placed her on it taking her inside. After 5 hours of surgery, Dr Lin came out of the operation theatre and sat next to Rey, "She saved the both of us." Rey's eyes were as wide as an ocean. He didn't want to hear a word after that but Dr Lin continued regardless "I could save her... but she is in a vegetative state. I can't say for sure if she will wake up as the injury is quite fatal and she also had a bad head injury. That woman was merciless. You must go and do what you have to do, I will do what I can do and let's leave the rest to fate "

Rey saw her through the window and immediately rushed back to the Night Palace. He opened the door and entered her home office to switch on the computer. He opened the iCloud storage and look at the data. Scrolling down, there was a file with a date and time which matched the incident. He copied the files and clicked on paste on to the hard drive he carried with him. As they were copying, he also found folders with different names including his own. After a moment of hesitation, he clicked and opened it. He selected the most recent one to see what it is.

"Oh! Shut Up for Goddamn sake, Rey! I'm reading a fu*king novel. If you nag me like a nanny, I better appoint you as my maid instead!".

"This one? didn't you yell at this one and tossed it aside? Dr Jane, do you know that you still have 400+ unread novels on your shelf? Why hang on to this one? ...... also why are you cleaning it again? just how many times will you clean it?"

"Well, I like this one, except for the fact it's tooo cliché. Hmmm, at the least it got the badass female lead but she died too young and he remarried right after, that too her own best friend. What a scum! Men can marry as many times they can but women can't. If I were in this novel as his wife... I will make sure he won't ever look at other women besides me even if I'm dead. I will haunt him as a ghost! And since you forgot that I have OCD, I cleaned your laptop too and now fu*k off. Don't disturb me"

"She really records random things" Rey smiled bitterly as he picked up the dog which was curling up in his leg. In a minute or so, he heard 'Bing' from the monitor. He closed the computer, picked up the dog's lease along with the dog and left to do what he must do. The rain slowed down as if all the water the clouds had on stock are now empty. The slow breeze was pushing the window curtains of her home office gracefully and the book she loved and equally hated fell from the window cushion and opened at a random page. 'Sapphire Dynasty's emperor Auth Spencer II ruthlessly killed his ally and a peaceful ruler of the Northern kingdom, Sean William Wales and his family taking his only 12 years old child as a prisoner and as a war trophy. Later it was unknown where that child went off the face of this earth. Karma, on the other hand, after 5 years of his ascension to the throne, let the ministers of the Sapphire dynasty join together against their own emperor killing him on the façade of illness. They finally settled on letting the emperor's only daughter Lynn Spencer who just turned 18 years old that year become their puppet queen whose only wish is to collect beautiful things ignoring the duty of being a ruler and agreeing with everything that was brought to her, just as how they wanted her to be, a puppet.'

The sunlight was too bright for Jane to fully open her eyes. She wrinkled her eyebrows in high disbelief that someone had the nerve to pull her curtain away early in the morning. "If it's Rey, you will be in the headlines tomorrow!" She spoke holding her anger while still trying to handle the bright light that was making her slowly realize how much pain she has in her body. "Fu*k it hurts everywhere!". Jane opened her eyes slowly adjusting herself to the pain and light, only to see there were people all around her in weird clothing holding water bins, clothes... and who knows what, in their hands, looking at her in utter shock!

"Who are you all? What are you doing in my bedroom?" Jane was looking at the crowd around her and finally recognized one face among them. 'I saw him somewhere... huh? Isn't this...him? the one who ran towards me calling me by someone else's name? Wait?' "Is this heaven? I am... DEAD?" She held her head in her hands and finally settled on her own made-up fact that she was dead and reached heaven as none of them dared to say a word to anything she said.

"Please tell me this is Heaven!"
