Chapter 1 Starting from The Fire

The heat was so intense in front of their faces. The twelve nurses in black gowns with white patterns on their necks tried to find people who could still be saved. Unfortunately, almost all the houses here have been destroyed by fire.

"Is there anyone else here?" a nurse shouted.

There was barely any sound to be heard other than the sound of fire slowly consuming the wooden buildings. Although it's part of the Wallenstein District of Telhi City, the village is still too far from the downtown. The help had also not arrived because it had to go through quite dense jungle.

"Is someone here?" another nurse shouted again.

Despite risking their lives, these nurses were willing to do it just to save the remaining people from that horrific event. The smell of burning materials mixed with the smell of blood and corpses, all in this place.

"This is terrible," a silver-haired nurse muttered.

Armed with only minimal equipment and no weapons, these nurses tried to help anyone who was still alive. They didn't seem to care if there were still enemy witches ready to attack them at any time.

In the midst of the uncertainty, the sound of a crying baby was heard from the direction of two o'clock. The silver-haired nurse immediately approached the sound, followed by two nurses behind her.

"This is ..."

That's right. a year-old baby was seen lying in front of them. While behind her was an adult woman who was crushed by building materials. There was also a blaze that began to devour everything around it.

The three nurses immediately tried to help them both. The silver-haired nurse immediately carried the baby, while the other two nurses tried to get the woman out from under the pile of wood.

"M-My daughter is still alive, huh? Thank goodness," the woman said haltingly.

"Hang in there, ma'am. We'll save you soon," the silver-haired nurse said.

As if she had given up, the woman just shook her head and answered with a soft voice.

"No. Just save my daugh-ter. My time will come soon."

"What are you talking about, ma'am? We'll be right-"

One of the nurses encouraged her as she tried to get her out of the woodpile. But her words stopped when she saw something sad in front of her.

The adult woman's body was already in a very critical condition. Her left leg was broken, rotating almost 180 degrees from its original position. Not only that, its depth was also badly damaged. The fresh blood had soaked almost her entire body.

"Ma'am ..."

With such conditions, it seems natural that the adult woman had resigned herself to her fate and waited for her death to arrive. But the nurses thought otherwise. They continued to encourage the woman and tried to get her out of that place, even though the flames were ready to devour them at any time.

Almost a minute passed and nothing changed in that critical condition. The mother still couldn't be removed, while the baby continued to struggle and cry. The adult woman then spoked again to the silver-haired nurse.

"P-please. P-please take care of my daughter. Take care of h-her."

The silver-haired nurse just nodded her head without saying a word, because that was the purpose of their coming here, to save and treat people who could still be saved. The mother continued her words.

"Her-name is, A-Alisa Garbareva."

The mother mentioned her daughter's name. But when she heard the name, the silver-haired nurse was immediately surprised. A name that seemed familiar to her.

"Alisa Garbareva? Wait, Garbareva? So you are-"

Before the nurse could finish speaking, a large tree beside the woman fell towards them.

"WATCH OUT!!"

BRUKK

The two nurses who were trying to save the mother immediately jumped back. But unfortunately, the large tree trunk hit that adult woman. The flames grew bigger.

"MRS GARBAREVA!!" shouted the silver-haired nurse.

There was no more answer from her. That woman's voice was no longer heard.

"Mrs Garbareva ..."

"HUAAA!!"

The baby cried even louder, whether because of the sound that startled her, the increasingly scorching heat, or because her mother was no longer there. No one knew for sure.

Saw that, the nurse immediately hugged her tightly and left the place to find a safer place. The nurse's warm hug managed to calm the baby. She stopped crying.

"Mrs Garbareva, I will do as you wish. I will take care of this baby for you. May you rest in peace."

The silver-haired nurse looked at the baby's face, then kissed her lovingly.

"Don't worry, Alisa Garbareva. This Weiss Karny will always take care of you until you grow up. I promise to you and your mother."

WOOF WOOF

A gray dog is seen chasing a six-year-old girl. She appears very scared.

"SISTER WEISS!! HELP ME!!"

The girl ran screaming the nurse's name. She was so panicked that she fell. The dog then jumped and tried to bite her.

"AAAAA ..."

Just half a meter away from reaching the girl, a piece of wood landed hard on the animal's head. The dog ran away because of it. The girl was saved.

She turned to the person who had managed to chase the dog away. It turned out to be another girl who was almost the same age as her, maybe a year older than her. The girl with longer hair stared at her with a cold gaze.

"Are you okay?" the girl asked.

With a face still looking scared, the girl couldn't answer her words. Not long after, a silver-haired nurse came over to the two of them.

"Alisa, Flo, are you okay?"

Seeing the nurse who had arrived, Alisa immediately hugged her tightly while crying. It seemed like she was still scared by the incident.

"HUAAA!! SISTER WEISS!!"

"Come on, Alisa. It's okay. I'm here."

Sister Weiss then invited them both back to the orphanage.

Alisa Garbareva, a girl who was saved by Sister Weiss, now lives in an orphanage in the middle of the city with other surviving childrens. So does Flo, or her real name is Floria Fresilca. The difference is that she and three other childrens were saved through a different event on the eastern coast.

Before they knew it, they had arrived at the orphanage. Sister Weiss treated the wound on Alisa's knee from the fell, while Flo waited for her outside the room. Alisa seemed to wince in pain as the silver-haired nurse applied medicine with a tissue to her knee.

"Ah ..., that's hurt."

"It's okay, Alisa. You're a strong girl, right? The wound will heal eventually," Sister Weiss comforted her while treating her wound.

Flo just leaned against the wall while waiting for them to leave the place.

Not long after, three boys came to her. They looked two to three years older than her. They looked at Flo with a cynical look.

"Hey, you're that Vitanian girl named Floria, right?" one of them asked.

Flo who heard it just nodded without answering a word. Apparently it made one of them furious.

"Hey, answer me!!"

"Yes. I am Flo. Floria Fresilca," she answered with a cold tone.

"Well, that's it. If someone asks you a question, answer it," said one of the boys.

Flo got up from her position and stood in front of them.

"By the way, what are you looking me for?" she asked.

Arrogantly, one of the boys immediately answered with a loud tone.

"Huh, you're waiting for Alisa, right? Why Vitanian girl like you acting sympathetic like that? You'd better get out of this city. Just go back to Vitania."

"What do you mean? I live here too. Why should I leave?" Flo answered innocently.

Hearing that answer, another boy immediately became emotional and hurled words to that girl.

"Hey, you still haven't realized it, Floria? It was a Vitanian like you who killed our family. When you become a magical girl, you'll definitely hunt us down too, right?"

Flo just lowered her head silently and heard it. Who knows what these people thought? They thought she was a monster who would finish them off in the future.

The girl answered him back in the same tone.

"No. I will not leave this place. I am not a criminal like you think. Besides..."

Flo turned towards the open door, where Alisa was being cared for by Weiss Karny.

"I want to be with Alisa. Always with her."

The girl's words apparently made one of them even angrier. He immediately approached Flo and intended to slap her.

"THAT'S BULLSHIT!! YOU DAMN VITANIAN GIRL!!"

His hand suddenly stopped when it almost hit the long-haired girl's cheek.

"What?"

Chapter 2 Karelia and Vitania

The boy's slap aimed at Flo was prevented by the nurse. Weiss Karny, who had just treated Alisa's wound, held the boy's hand and glared at him.

"Si-sister Weiss?"

"What are you doing, Abraham? Slapping a girl, is this what we taught you?"

The two boys behind him looked panicked after seeing the nurse's expression that was about to scold them. But it was different with the boy named Abraham. He rebelled against her instead.

"But Sister Weiss, she is Vitanian. The ones who wiped out our family here. I will never be able to reconcile with her."

Abraham looks very angry at Flo, hating her background. The girl just listened to Abraham's words, unable to say anything. But Sister Weiss immediately advised him.

"Listen to this, Abraham. Even though she is a Vitanian and you are a Karelian, we are still both Hamu Kamina, right, both Kamina humans?"

"That's ..., I ..."

"We were all born in the Kingdom of Archipelahia, right? So why should we hate each other just because of different ethnicities?"

Abraham was silent when he heard that.

"Come on, Abraham. You may still be hurt by what happened to your family. But that is no reason for you to hate the other Hamu Kamina. We all need to stop this cycle of hatred. We want to make peace with each other, we don't want any more bad things to happen, right?" Weiss explained.

Apparently, the words uttered by the nurse managed to melt his heart. Weiss then released her grip.

"I'm sorry, Sister Weiss, Floria," Abraham said, bowing his head and regretting his actions.

Saw that, Sister Weiss immediately rubbed his head before finally letting the three of them go.

Not long after, Alisa, with a bandaged left leg, walked over to the two of them.

"Flo ..."

That Vitanian girl just smiled thinly at her before finally inviting her to the garden in front of the orphanage.

They sat together on a swing. Alisa still looked down dejected, while Flo just looked at her beside her.

"Flo ..."

"Yes, Alisa?"

"Why did you just keep quiet when those kids were talking nonsense to you?" asked Alisa.

Flo sighed.

"Don't worry about that. I'm fine."

"But I still don't understand. Karelia, Vitania, why are they enemies? Why are Vitanian people like you considered monsters by the Karelians here?" Alisa asked again.

Flo answered her in a confused tone.

"I, I don't know either. I never intended to hurt anyone here, including you, who are Karelian. In fact, I want to always be with you, Alisa. I want to protect you, because you are my best friend," Flo answered.

Alisa immediately turned to that girl.

"Best friend?"

"Yes, Alisa. You are my best friend while I am here," Flo said, smiling at her.

"But, I always make things difficult for you, Flo. I'm always a burden to you," Alisa said.

She heard that, Flo immediately patted Alisa's shoulder and comforted her.

"No, it's not. It's my job to protect my best friend. I should be thanking you for being my friend while I'm here."

Alisa smiled heard those words. Her heart melted because of that.

"Thanks too, Flo."

The friendship between Alisa Garbareva and Floria Fresilca began to form from that moment on. Both of them always showed their togetherness at all times. Alisa, who was a clumsy and shy girl, was always helped by Flo, who was much braver than her. As a result, the story of their friendship became the talk of many people, including the orphanage nurses.

They looked so happy with the friendship between the warring ethnicities. Everyone was happy because this could be the beginning of a peacemaking for all of them. To appreciate it, Sister Weiss gave them a big box containing a pair of model clothes, right in front of the childrens and the other nurses.

"Eh, Sister Weiss. What is this?" Alisa asked.

"That's a gift to both of you for showing your solidarity and togetherness while you were here."

"Wow, it's beautiful," praised Alisa.

"Okay. Now try it on."

They both immediately put it on together. It turned out that the model of the clothes was so harmonious. Right when they finished putting it on, Sister Weiss immediately called out to everyone there.

"Alright. This is a gift for Alisa and Floria for showing good togetherness. I hope this will be a trigger for you to unite. We are one Archipelahia, fellow Hamu Kamina. We should not be hostile towards each other just because of different ethnicities. Hopefully, our kingdom will be peaceful in the future."

Sister Weiss then turned to the two of them.

"Let's give a big round of applause to Alisa Garbareva and Floria Fresilca," she continued.

The nurses and childrens at the orphanage applauded that two girls from different ethnicities, including Abraham, who smiled.

Alisa held Flo's hand and bowed their heads together as a sign of respect for their appreciation for both of them.

"With this we will always be together, Alisa," Flo said in her heart.

It was a clear night to watch the stars in the sky. The nurses were in their respective rooms and some were accompanying some of the childrens. Meanwhile, other orphanage childrens were playing in the park. Abraham and his two friends were also seen buying food at a shop not too far from the place.

"So peaceful, Flo," said Alisa, who could only watch the view from behind the bedroom window.

"Hmm..." Flo mumbled while nodding her head.

The city seemed peaceful and serene as usual. They witnessed the beauty of the starry night sky, and the houses of the residents were lit up by the sparkling lights. But in the midst of the peaceful atmosphere, Flo saw something strange.

Her gaze focused on a hill in front of her. A strange red light was seen that produced smoke rising high into the air. Alisa was also curious about what her friend saw.

"What do you see, Flo?" Alisa asked, approaching her.

"I don't know. What's that?" Flo asked back, pointing towards the hill.

Luckily, Alisa had a very good and sharp sense of sight. Objects at that distance could be seen clearly. And that turned out to be something that surprised them.

"Fire," said Alisa.

"What? Fire?"

Alisa could see it quite clearly. It was a big fire that was visible from the direction of the hill. But after she looked again, it turned out that it was not an ordinary fire, but several small flames that merged into a big fire.

WHOOSH

As if controlled by someone, the fireball suddenly shot into the sky very quickly, then broke into several small pieces like fireworks. The fragments of the fireball attracted the attention of everyone who saw it. Some of them were even amazed to see it.

"What is that?"

"A fireworks?"

"It's so beautiful."

Many thought that it was a giant firework like the ones usually launched every New Year's Eve. But unfortunately, their guess was wrong. That was the beginning of their disaster.

Chapter 3 That's Not a Fireworks

BOOM

The fireballs that burst in the sky hit various objects on the ground. Roads, gardens, and even people's houses were all hit by that and burned badly. The city sirens sounded. The peace and tranquility immediately turned into fear and panic.

"THERE'S BEEN AN ATTACK!! THERE'S BEEN AN ATTACK!!"

"HELP!! MY HOUSE IS BURNED!!"

"My son, where is my son?"

People screamed and scattered on the streets, ran here and there without any direction. Including the children in the orphanage. They screamed and cried saw the atmosphere that suddenly changed like a war. Everything was chaotic, the nurses were overwhelmed with handling them.

Alisa and Floria were frozen in thatplace, only able to see and hear the panic behind the window.

"What is, this?"

Abraham and his two friends who had bought something at the food stall also did not escape the panic. They threw the food they had bought, the three of them immediately returned to the orphanage while ran to save themselves. But unfortunately, bad luck befell the three of them.

Right from the darkness behind them appeared a group of mysterious people wearing black robes. They ran very fast towards Abraham and his two friends. Two of them took out something from their hands which was none other than a dagger.

"NOOO!!"

Flo, who witnessed it, immediately screamed. But what could she do? The distance was too far for the three of them to hear.

The two persons in black robes immediately swung their daggers at Abraham's two friends behind him. Red blood immediately splashed out of the two children's bodies. They fell and didn't get up again.

Flo was frozen there with her mouth agape. Her face looked very scared. This was the first time she had seen a murder directly in front of her own eyes.

"Aghh ..."

Seeing his two friends who were already dead, Abraham sped up his running until he reached the front gate of the orphanage.

"Come on, Abraham!!"

Ignored what was behind him, the boy kept running to save himself. But unfortunately, the luck was not on his side.

The black-robed person behind him immediately jumped quite high towards the boy while swinging their dagger. The slash of the weapon hit Abraham's neck, making his head separated from his body.

"Don't look, Alisa!!"

"Hey, Flo. What's wrong?"

The girl couldn't say it.

Still not satisfied with that, another fireball hit the wall of the orphanage and set it on fire. The fire began to spread throughout the place, including towards the room where Alisa and Flo were.

Flo opened Alisa's eyes again and invited her to leave that place.

"Alisa, let's go, hurry!!"

Alisa's eyes were completely blank. She didn't respond at all to what Flo said, as if her ears were blocked by the sound of the rapidly spreading fire.

"ALISA!!"

The girl was completely frozen there. But luckily, Sister Weiss came into the room to evacuate them.

"Alisa, Flo, are you still here? Thank goodness. Come here."

Flo, who was already in tears because of fear, tried to approach the nurse. But unexpectedly, the door to the room was kicked to pieces by one of the person in black robes who managed to enter the orphanage. Their footsteps were followed by a fire that burned almost the entire wall of the room.

They were all trapped there, with no way out. Sister Weiss tried to protect them.

"I won't let you touch them."

The person was wearing a black robe that covered their head so that their face was not visible. However, there was a cloth tied to their left arm. On the cloth was a mysterious symbol in the form of a light blue triangle with three white stars on each corner.

They immediately pointed their right hand at Sister Weiss. Their index and middle fingers pointed forward, while the other three fingers were bent. They then uttered a word that resembled an incantation.

"Sfyrd!!"

WHOOSH

JLEBB

A very terrible thing happened right before their eyes. A spear of light with a fairly long size suddenly appeared from their hand and stabbed right into Weiss' stomach. Blood began to flow from her stomach. The nurse seemed to be enduring incredible pain. Alisa and Floria could only stare at the tragedy.

Slowly the spear of light shattered into small pieces of light before finally disappearing. Right after the last piece evaporated, fresh blood gushed out from the nurse's stomach. The splash spread throughout the room and hit both of their bodies. The nurse collapsed and never got up again.

"AAAAA ..."

Floria screamed as loudly as she could saw the terrible tragedy. Meanwhile, Alisa could only stare blankly. Fear enveloped them both.

"Will I die too? But, I don't wanna die."

That was what crossed Alisa's mind after saw the very kind Sister Weiss killed brutally right before their eyes.

Shortly after, the black-robed person pointed their left hand towards Flo and chanted an incantation again.

"Mahnit!!"

WHOOSH

Miraculous. A light appeared from their palm that seemed to pull Flo into their grasp. The girl struggled to escape their grip, but unfortunately it seemed futile.

"LET ME GO!! LET ME GO!!"

That person in the black robe then touched Flo's forehead with two fingers of their right hand and magically put her to sleep.

Alisa wondered if this was what was called magic. But she couldn't do anything. That girl was completely overcome by fear.

That person in a black robe then directed their hand again like before, but this time directly towards the girl. Alisa who saw it was frozen there, unable to move an inch because she was overcome by fear.

"W-who are you?" Alisa stuttered, but the person in the black robe did not answer her.

"Please, don't ..."

Alisa was very scared. How could she not be? In front of her was a mysterious person who had killed Sister Weiss and taken Flo easily. And now her life was really in danger.

That mysterious robed person then recited an incantation, but it was different from the spell they had recited before.

"Syom Flynt!!"

WHOOSHH

A magical light emerged from their hand. Alisa, who saw it, suddenly lost her balance. Her body began to feel weak for no reason and her vision began to blur.

"Flo ..."

In a blurry vision, Alisa saw Flo being taken away by that person. Who knows where they were taken, but they managed to separate Flo from her. Her heart was filled with sadness, her best friend had been kidnapped by an unknown person.

"Please. Don't take Flo ..."

Her vision then went dark, and she didn't remember anything else at that time.
