CHAPTER ONE - Draven, Help me
Fiona's POV
The moment Draven stepped onto the ice, the entire arena erupted.
"Draven! Draven! Draven!"
I smiled from the upper section, watching him skate across the rink.
He looked confident.
He had no idea how much work had gone into getting him here.
Three days ago, his name had been left off the list for this game.
I had made one phone call.
One conversation with my father.
One quiet request.
Now Draven was standing on the ice with thousands of people chanting his name.
And he thought it was all because of his talent.
I didn't blame him for thinking that.
That was exactly how I wanted it.
To Draven, I was just his girlfriend. The quiet girl who waited for him after every match, smiled when he won, kissed him when he scored, and told him how proud I was.
He didn't know that when people stopped believing in him, I was the one who kept opening doors for him.
He didn't know how many times I had used my father's influence without ever letting him find out.
And he certainly didn't know who my father was.
No one knew that my father was the commissioner of the National Hockey League.
His face appeared on television every season. Coaches answered to him, team owners respected him, officials were careful around him.
If I wanted to use his name, I could.
One phone call from my father could change how people looked at a player. One recommendation could open doors that would otherwise remain closed.
That was exactly why I kept my identity a secret. I wanted people to see Fiona, not the
commissioner's daughter but when it came to Draven... My rules became flexible, whenever he struggled, I found myself stepping in.
A quiet conversation with my father, a suggestion passed to the right coach, a word placed in the
right ear at the right time.
I stayed invisible, I couldn't afford what they would say...
"She only got close because of her father.
"
"That fat girl thinks she belongs here.
The word never stopped sticking, fat. Like it defined everything I was before I even spoke, my weight was the first thing they saw and the only thing they remembered, so I learned to ignore it, to accept the looks, the whispers, the laughter and still stand where I wanted to stand.
Draven isn't a bad player, he's just inconsistent.
He tries hard, but pressure gets into his head. One mistake and everything collapses. I've seen it too many times.
Whenever he struggled, I found myself helping him, a quiet conversation with my father, a recommendation for a training camp, an introduction to the right coach,a chance to prove himself when others had already written him off.
Draven still had to step onto the ice and earn his victories himself and I simply made sure people gave him the chance and every time he smiled after a win, I convinced myself it was worth it.
Everything to make sure Draven wins, everything to make sure he stays happy.
I leaned forward slightly as the crowd began chanting.
"Draven! Draven! Draven!"
I smiled. "He's going to win today," I whispered.
Then it faded. "Cassian."
The name came through the announcer's system as the opposing captain stepped onto the ice.My expression changed immediately, Cassian wasn't just another player.
He was dangerous, fast, controlled, observant, the kind of player who notices things other people miss.
I exhaled slowly."Stay focused," I murmured. "I've got this."
Just then... Something hit my leg, it was hard. "Ah-!"
I lost balance and fell forward. "Ow! Ow!" I hissed, gripping the railing as pain shot through me.
The stadium noise shifted, people noticed.
Then I heard the laughter, I looked up sharply.
Freya. She sat a few seats away, smirking like nothing happened.
I narrowed my eyes.n"Did you just throw that at me?"
She tilted her head. "Relax... it was an accident." But she was smiling.
Around her, more laughter started, and so by then the attention turned fully toward me.
Whispers spread instantly. "Isn't she the fat one dating Draven?"
"She's embarrassing..."
"She shouldn't even be here."
My throat tightened. I pushed myself up slowly.
"No..." I whispered. "Stop it."
That's when I felt it. My trousers had torn slightly during the fall, when they all looked at me, the laughter got louder.
My face burned. "Please..." I muttered, pulling at my clothes, trying to cover myself.
"Draven..." I called softly.
He was still on the ice, I stared at him, waiting for him to come
He turned, our eyes met, for a second, I thought he would come to help me, then he shook his head slightly and skated away.
My breath caught. "...Draven?" I whispered, like maybe I had seen wrong.
But he didn't look back, something inside me cracked quietly.
Tears stung my eyes, but I refused to let them fall.
I just needed out, Then...Footsteps behind me.
Slowly, I raised my head. Cassian?
He stood there, expression unreadable, the noise behind me felt far away now.
He didn't look at me like I was something to be laughed at. Without a word, he took off his jacket and placed it over my shoulders.
I froze. "Ca... Cas ...Cassian, thank you " I whispered.
CHAPTER TWO - The Betrayal
Fiona's POV
The jacket was still warm on my shoulders as I stood outside Draven's door.
My hands trembled slightly as I stared at it, trying to steady my breathing. Everything that had happened earlier still felt unreal. The fall, the laughter in the stadium, the humiliation that spread
through the crowd like fire, and the way I had walked away while everyone watched me break and then Cassian.
The way he had covered me without asking anything.
I swallowed hard and told myself I needed to see Draven. I needed to believe there was an explanation for everything that happened. He always told me to be smart, so maybe he did not
understand how bad it looked, maybe he thought I was fine, maybe he was just angry about the game.
I lifted my hand and knocked softly.
"Draven..." I said quietly. "It's me.
There was no answer at first, I waited, my heart still felt heavy, still tangled in confusion, still holding onto the version of him I had always believed in
There was no answer, so I decided to open the door... but what I saw shook me...
Draven and Freya kissing.
My breath stopped completely as my eyes moved between them, trying to make sense of what I was seeing.
"Draven?" I whispered, like saying his name could fix the image in front of me.
He looked at me, and something in his expression felt different, distance and caress . Almost irritated, like I had interrupted something unimportant.
Freya stepped closer to him, and before I could process it fully, she kissed him. Right in front of me, the world went silent in my mind, everything stopped, even my breathing.
The jacket on my shoulders suddenly felt heavier, like it did not belong to me anymore.
"No..." I said softly, almost unable to believe what I was seeing. "Draven..."
He pulled back slightly, and for a moment, he looked amused, like my reaction entertained him.
Then he laughed. A short, easy laugh that cut through me more than anything from earlier that day.
"You really came here?" he said casually.
My lips parted, but no sound came out at first.
I stepped forward slowly, my voice breaking as I spoke.
"I am your girlfriend..."
Freya leaned against him, smiling like she had already won something I did not know I was losing.
Draven shook his head slowly, like I had misunderstood everything from the beginning.
"Girlfriend?" he repeated, still laughing. "Fiona, you really took this too seriously
My chest tightened painfully. "What are you saying..." I whispered. "We are together... "
He looked at me for a moment, then shrugged like it meant nothing at all."It was never that deep," he said simply. "It was just fun."
The air left my lungs completely, my mind struggled to process the words. Fun.
I repeated it silently, hoping it would change meaning but it did not.
Freya laughed softly beside him, then looked at me properly for the first time.
Her eyes moved over me slowly, and her smile turned sharper.
"You really thought you fat pig who couldn't hold yourself together could have the Star player?"
My fingers tightened at my sides. Draven leaned against the doorframe, completely relaxed, completely unaffected.
"I never planned anything with you," he said. "It started as a bet. Truth or dare between I and my friends and you fell for it."
The world inside me cracked again, q bet, a game.
Everything I had believed in suddenly felt like it had never existed. My throat burned as I tried to speak.
"All the things I did for you..." I said quietly. "Everything..."
Draven exhaled like I was becoming a burden.
"You did.., what did you do? Other than embrassed me everywhere, do you expect a Star player like me to be with you? Freya is smart, beautiful and have a good stature"
Freya stepped forward slightly, flaunting herself, her tone soft but her eyes sharp. "You should leave, we don't have food to feed you" she said.
Something in me broke at that moment, Draven turned away first, like I was already gone from his world.Freya closed the door slowly after him, and the sound echoed longer than anything else.
I remained standing there for a long moment, completely still, until my legs finally gave out.
I slid down the wall slowly, the jacket still on my shoulders, the warmth now feeling like something from another life.
And then it came, the tears tears.
They fell without control, shaking my entire body as I finally stopped pretending I was fine.
Everything I had built my life around collapsed at once.
The love I believed in, the future I imagined, the person I thought I mattered to. All of it disappeared inside that hallway.
I cried until my chest hurt too much to breathe properly.
And in the silence that followed, one truth stayed behind, heavier than everything else.
I had never been chosen, I had was only a bet
CHAPTER THREE - She's the one
Cassian's POV
I was about to leave the arena when the noise behind me slowly began to fade into something I no longer cared about.
The match had ended, the crowd was still reacting, and my team was still celebrating somewhere behind the glass walls, but my mind was already elsewhere.
I adjusted my grip on my bag and walked through the corridor that led toward the exit, trying to ignore the weight that always came with these places.
Because leaving the hockey world was never truly leaving.
Outside of it, something else waited, a pack that never stopped asking questions, a council that never stopped demanding answers and a future I had never agreed to.As Alpha, they all wanted the same thing from me, a mate, a bond, a continuation of bloodlines and politics and power I never asked for.
Every meeting, every gathering, every quiet conversation ended in the same direction. Kelly. The
Beta's daughter, she was always presented like a solution. A perfect match on paper. A perfect symbol for unity. A perfect way to satisfy expectations without conflict but I had already decided she would never be mine, not her, not anyone they chose for me.
I exhaled slowly as I stepped closer to the exit, freedom was supposed to feel like relief, but lately it
felt more like pressure from another direction.
That was when I noticed movement near the side corridor, a figure sat alone near the benches, slightly hidden from the main path where everyone else had already left. At first I almost walked past without paying attention, but something about the stillness made me slow down.
She was shaking.I recognized her, the girl from earlier, the one who had fallen during the match and stood alone on the ice while people laughed, I did not know her name.
In the arena, people did not use it much. They used something else instead. Something careless.
Something dismissive. "Fat girl." As if reducing someone was easier than seeing them
I stopped walking before I realized I had done it, she looked worse than before, not physically, but
emotionally, like something inside her had completely collapsed and she was trying to sit inside the ruins without knowing how to move.
I approached slowly without making noise. When I was close enough, she finally noticed me, her eyes lifted slightly, red and wet, and for a moment she looked confused like she could not understand why I was still here.
Then she spoke softly, almost broken. "Do you want your jacket back?"
Her voice was thin, like she had been holding it in for too long.
I shook my head slightly. "I did not come for that," said calmly.
She looked down again, like she did not have thestrength to hold eye contact for long. Then I asked the question that had formed without permission.
"Why are you crying?"
For a moment she did not answer, her fingers tightened slightly around the edge of the jacket I had given her earlier, and I could see her trying to steady her breathing again. Then she spoke. "My man betrayed me."
The words came out uneven, broken, like they had been sitting inside her chest for too long and finally forced their way out and then she cried again, harder this time.
Her shoulders shook fully, and she bent forward slightly as if her body could no longer carry the weight of what she had just said.
Something inside me shifted, not sympathy alone, something deeper.
My wolf reacted before I understood what it meant. "It screamed... "Mate... Mate... Mate"
It moved inside me sharply, restless, alert, focused entirely on her. It was not the usual reaction I had learned to control over years of discipline. This was different, stronger, Immediate.
The thought came without permission, I stared at her quietly, watching her break apart in front of me while everyone else had already moved on from her existence.
For some reason, I did not walk away, I stayed.
She wiped her face quickly, embarrassed, trying to regain whatever dignity she still had left. "I am fine," she said weakly, even though she was clearly not.
I did not believe her, I had seen enough people lie about that word.
Fine never meant fine. My gaze stayed on her longer than I intended
She was still shaking, still trying to breathe normally, still unaware of how strongly my wolf was reacting to her presence and then the thought came again.
Stronger this time, what if she was mine. The idea did not feel like curiosity, It felt like recognition, like something inside me had already decided before my mind had caught up. I stepped slightly closer without thinking, her eyes lifted again, uncertain, watching me like she did not know what I was going to do next.
My voice came out lower than before, steady but different."Do you mind coming with me? You can't stay alone here"
The words landed between us like something neither of us expected.
Her entire body froze instantly.
Her eyes widened slightly, confusion breaking through her pain for the first time.
For a moment, she did not move, she only stared at me and in that silence, I realized I had just changed everything without meaning to but I did not take the words back.
Because my wolf had already chosen and wouldn't want her to stay alone
