The Heiress's Loop: My Second Chance

Author: : Mo Yufei
Genre: Young Adult
My head pounded, a familiar ache, as I slowly sat up in my dorm room, sunlight streaming through the window. But something was terribly wrong; the last thing I remembered was my farewell party before London, a drink from Brianna, and then a confusing blank. Now, my phone confirmed the impossible: September 5th, move-in day, the exact beginning of my freshman year. A cold dread washed over me, stomach churning, as the door creaked open, revealing Brianna Evans, my new roommate. She was slinging a cheap, shiny black jacket over her arm – a blatant, terrible knock-off of my AllSaints leather jacket, the one I had just worn in my real past. It hit me then: I was trapped in a horrifying loop, forced to relive every cruel detail of the previous timeline. I remembered her subtle digs, the stolen moments, the way she'd mimic me, then twist things until I looked like the villain, the prestigious internship I lost, the friendships she sabotaged, the reputation she systematically destroyed. My blood ran cold, then hot with a fury born of knowing exactly what she was. How could I be back here, forced to endure this slow-motion psychological torture all over again? The sheer unfairness of facing her again, knowing the devastation she' d leave in her wake, was almost unbearable. But deep within me, the old Ash – the one who was kind, accommodating, and always gave the benefit of the doubt – was gone, poisoned out of existence by Brianna's venom. This time, things would be drastically different. The game was on, and though she thought she held all the cards, I knew the rules now. I had a lifetime of future knowledge, and this time, the winner wouldn't be Brianna. My future was finally mine to reclaim.

Introduction

Chapter 1

My head pounded.

The room spun, then slowly settled.

Dorm room. My dorm room.

Sunlight streamed through the window, too bright.

I sat up, a wave of nausea hitting me.

The last thing I remembered was the party, the farewell gathering before London.

My drink. Brianna handed me my drink.

Then... nothing.

Now, I was back here.

Beginning of the semester.

No, this couldn' t be.

I scrambled for my phone. The date confirmed it. September 5th.

Move-in day.

The day Brianna Evans, my new roommate, first walked in.

A cold dread washed over me.

I remembered everything. The subtle digs, the stolen moments, the way she' d mimic me, then twist things until I looked like the villain.

The internship I' d lost because of her.

My stomach churned.

The door creaked open.

Brianna stood there, a cheap, shiny black jacket slung over her arm.

A knock-off.

A blatant, terrible knock-off of my AllSaints leather jacket, the one I' d saved up for, the one I' d worn just yesterday in this timeline.

My blood ran cold, then hot.

Not again.

This time, things would be different.

The old Ash, the one who tried to be nice, to understand, to give people the benefit of the doubt, she was gone.

She' d been poisoned out of existence.

I looked at Brianna, her eyes flicking over my room, a little too bright, a little too hungry.

The game was on, but this time, I knew the rules. And I had a lifetime of future knowledge she couldn' t even imagine.

Chapter 2

Brianna smiled, a saccharine, practiced thing.

"Hi! I'm Brianna, your new roommate. Love your jacket!"

She gestured to my genuine AllSaints, draped over my desk chair.

Then she held up her own. "Look, almost twinsies!"

I stared at her, then at the flimsy imitation in her hand.

The polite, accommodating Ash would have smiled, said something vague.

The new Ash didn' t.

"That jacket's a pretty bad knock-off of my AllSaints one," I said, my voice even.

"Mine cost over a grand. If you're going to copy me, at least invest in better fakes."

I paused. "Or, you know, don't copy me at all."

Brianna' s smile faltered. Her eyes widened, then narrowed.

Chloe Davis, our other roommate, was unpacking boxes by her bed. She stopped, looking from me to Brianna, her expression surprised.

"I... I don't know what you mean," Brianna stammered, her voice suddenly shaky. "I just thought it was cute. I saw it online."

"Right," I said, my tone flat. "A coincidence."

Tears welled in Brianna' s eyes. "Why are you being so mean? I just got here."

Chloe shifted uncomfortably. "Ash, maybe she just liked the style."

"Maybe," I agreed, holding Brianna's gaze. "Or maybe she has a thing for other people's things."

Brianna let out a small sob. "I can't believe this. My first day, and my roommate is already attacking me."

She dropped her bag, the fake jacket falling to the floor, and fled the room, tears streaming.

Chloe looked at me, a frown creasing her forehead. "That was a bit harsh, wasn't it?"

"You have no idea, Chloe," I said, my voice tired. "You really don't."

An hour later, I got an email. Dean Peterson wanted to see me.

Immediately.

Brianna hadn't wasted any time.
