The Heiress Who Rewrote The Script

Author: : L. FITZGERALD
Genre: Romance
My summer holiday at our Hamptons estate started like any other, quiet and peaceful. Then, a sleek black SUV pulled up, and my world began to unravel. Out stepped Ethan Vance, our estate manager's son, a quiet boy I' d grown up with, but now he was radiating an unsettling arrogance, accompanied by a woman I didn' t recognize. Suddenly, obnoxious social media comments flashed across my vision, overlaid on reality itself. "OMG, Ethan & Chloe, the power couple, are finally reunited! Ash better not get in their way this time!" Another popped up: "Ash is so gonna be the jealous villainess again, lol." Ethan then delivered his shocking demands: Chloe would stay in my favorite Azure Suite, and I was to pull strings for her big Hollywood audition. His voice dripped with condescension as he announced, "My heart belongs to her," then chillingly warned he might "let my family off easy" if I complied. The comments revealed a horrific truth: a "previous life," a "web-drama" where Ethan had used me, married me, and destroyed my family to be with Chloe. I, Ashley Miller, was merely the "jealous, overbearing heiress" destined for total ruin. My mind reeled. Villainess? Use my money? Dump me? This wasn't a hallucination; it was a script they expected me to follow, a pre-ordained triumph. But the sheer audacity, the contempt in his voice, ignited a fierce, unyielding fury within me. They expected a lovesick fool, a doormat. I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction of that ending. I raised my hand and slapped Ethan across the face. This was my story to write, and their script was about to be shredded.

Introduction

My summer holiday at our Hamptons estate started like any other, quiet and peaceful.

Then, a sleek black SUV pulled up, and my world began to unravel.

Out stepped Ethan Vance, our estate manager's son, a quiet boy I' d grown up with, but now he was radiating an unsettling arrogance, accompanied by a woman I didn' t recognize.

Suddenly, obnoxious social media comments flashed across my vision, overlaid on reality itself.

"OMG, Ethan & Chloe, the power couple, are finally reunited! Ash better not get in their way this time!"

Another popped up: "Ash is so gonna be the jealous villainess again, lol."

Ethan then delivered his shocking demands: Chloe would stay in my favorite Azure Suite, and I was to pull strings for her big Hollywood audition.

Chapter 1

The sleek black SUV pulled up the long, winding driveway of our Hamptons estate.

I was on the veranda, trying to enjoy the late summer breeze, but a strange feeling had been nagging me all morning.

Then, I saw them.

Ethan Vance, the son of our estate manager, stepped out. He wasn' t supposed to be here, not without an invitation.

And then a woman I didn' t recognize emerged from the passenger side, clinging to his arm.

Suddenly, words flashed in my vision, bright and intrusive, like social media comments overlaid on reality.

"OMG, Ethan & Chloe, the power couple, are finally reunited! Ash better not get in their way this time!"

I blinked, shaking my head. What was that?

Another one appeared. "Ash is so gonna be the jealous villainess again, lol."

My breath caught. Villainess?

Ethan spotted me. He smirked, a look of pure arrogance I' d never seen on him before. It was chilling.

He strode towards me, the woman, Chloe, trailing him like a shadow.

"Ashley," he said, his voice dripping with a condescension that was entirely new. "Good. You're here."

More text scrolled across my sight. "Can't wait for Ethan to use her money and dump her for Chloe, classic!"

My mind reeled. Use my money? Dump me?

"This is Chloe," Ethan announced, gesturing dismissively at the woman. "She'll be staying with us."

Chloe gave a saccharine smile that didn' t reach her eyes.

"I need you to arrange for her to have the Azure Suite," Ethan continued, naming my favorite guest room, the one with the best ocean view.

"And," he added, his eyes glinting, "start pulling some strings. Chloe needs an audition. A big one. Think Hollywood."

I stared at him, speechless. This wasn't the Ethan I knew, the quiet, somewhat awkward boy who grew up on the estate.

"Look, Ash," he said, lowering his voice conspiratorially, though his tone was anything but kind. "I'll keep you around, for appearances. But my heart," he glanced at Chloe with a look of mock devotion, "belongs to her."

Another comment flashed. "He's already laying down the law! Ash is just a stepping stone."

"Help me with this," Ethan went on, his gaze hardening, "and I might, just might, let your family off easy when things change."

Let my family off easy? What was he talking about?

The "comments" in my vision were becoming clearer, more insistent. They spoke of a "previous life," a "web-drama" where Ethan used me, married me, then destroyed everything I held dear to be with this Chloe.

They died. And now, apparently, they were reborn.

And I, Ashley Miller, was cast as the "jealous, overbearing heiress" destined for ruin.

Not if I could help it.

Chapter 2

The pieces clicked into place with sickening clarity. The intrusive "comments" weren't a hallucination; they were a window into a script I was supposed to follow.

Ethan' s arrogant pronouncements, Chloe' s smug entitlement – it all made sense if they believed they were reliving a pre-ordained triumph.

"The Azure Suite?" I repeated, my voice dangerously calm. "And auditions?"

Ethan nodded, impatient. "Yes. Get on with it. Don't make me ask twice."

"He really thinks he's the male lead, ordering everyone around," a new comment popped up.

Chloe piped up then, her voice cloyingly sweet. "Oh, Ethan, darling, perhaps Ashley isn't used to... serving others. It must be hard for her."

She looked at me with faux pity. "Maybe she's just not fit for it. We wouldn't want to inconvenience her too much."

"Chloe's already playing the innocent white lotus! Masterful!" another comment declared.

Ethan' s eyes narrowed at me. "Chloe's right. You're being difficult. Don't forget your place, Ash. You exist to make my life, and Chloe's life, easier."

My place?

The sheer audacity of it, the contempt in his voice, ignited a fury I rarely felt.

The "comments" had shown me their playbook. They expected me to be a lovesick fool, a doormat.

I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction.

I raised my hand and slapped Ethan across the face. Hard.

The sound echoed on the veranda.

Ethan stumbled back, shock and outrage warring on his features. Chloe gasped dramatically.

"How dare you!" Ethan seethed, one hand flying to his cheek.

"Get out," I said, my voice like ice. "Both of you."

Chloe rushed to Ethan's side. "You see, Ethan? She's violent! She's unhinged! We can't possibly stay here. She should be kicked out!"

"Kicked out of my own home?" I laughed, a harsh, humorless sound. "You two are delusional."

I turned to the intercom by the door. "Maria, please call security. We have trespassers on the property who need to be escorted out."

Maria, our head housekeeper, had been with our family for twenty years.

"And Maria," I added, looking directly at Chloe, "is a salaried employee of the Miller family. She is not your personal servant, nor am I."

Ethan' s face contorted with rage. "You think your father will stand for this? He values me! He knows my potential!"

"Ethan's still high on his past life power, lol. He has no idea," a comment snickered.

"He practically begged me to look after you, to guide you," Ethan blustered. "He'll see you're the one who's ungrateful and cruel."

I almost pitied his delusion. Almost.

"We'll see about that," I said, just as the familiar sound of my father's car approached.
