Chapter 1 001

Amelia's POV

I stood at the center of the private dining room, adjusting the last detail of the perfectly set table. The soft glow of the candles complimented the bouquet of his favorite flowers.

Jake loves roses, white ones specifically and they stood elegantly in their vases. The venue was breathtaking, but it still wasn't as perfect as I wanted it to be or maybe I was just nervous.

On the table was a 100million dollar contract deal for him. I've had it with me a long time and what other way to surprise him than on his birthday. He's really stood by me through all these years and I feel like doing this will really make him happy, since he's been asking for it too.

It wasn't even all about his birthday, the main reason was about showing him how much he meant to me, how much I appreciated everything we had together.

I checked the time on my phone once again. It was like the hundredth time. He was late, 30 minutes late, to be precise.

My stomach twisted uncomfortably, but I told myself he'd be here any second. Jake was a busy man; I knew that.

But I'm a busy woman too...

The thought did little to calm my nerves as I glanced at the door. I could already feel the anticipation that had once bubbled inside me be replaced by frustration.

"Would you like to begin serving, Miss Connells?" the waiter asked, his tone polite but hesitant.

I shook my head quickly. "No, not yet. He'll be here soon."

At least, that's what I told myself. But as another fifteen minutes passed, doubt started to creep in. I pulled out my phone and called him again.

Voicemail.

"Jake, it's me. Just wondering where you are. Call me back, okay?" I said softly, trying to keep the disappointment out of my voice.

I hung up, staring at the screen as if it would magically light up with his name. It didn't.

I sat down and half an hour passed. The once-romantic atmosphere of the room now felt suffocating. The candles, which I had lit with so much hope, mocked me.

"Amelia, you fool...."I said to myself, biting the inside of my cheek to stop the tears threatening to spill. He wouldn't just forget... would he?

My hand tightened around my phone as I stood, walking towards the waiter.

"Dinner's cancelled," I said quietly, my voice shaking slightly.

The man frowned but nodded, signaling the other staff to begin clearing the table. I didn't wait to see their pitiful expressions. I just grabbed my coat and walked outside to where my car was parked, the cool night air hitting me like a slap.

I pulled out my phone as my driver started the car,

So I called my best friend, Beth. She didn't pick up.

I breathed out in frustration, letting my head rest briefly against the backseat. My driver caught my eye through the rearview mirror.

"There's a bar not far from here, ma'am," he said carefully. "Perhaps... I don't know, if you'd like to relax there a bit? Cool off the stress?"

I looked at him for a second, then nodded with a faint, forced smile. "Yeah. Sure. Why not."

It was exactly what I needed, I shouldn't cry because my man didn't show up.

The drive was short, he pulled up outside a place buzzing with music and low chatter spilling onto the street. I stepped out, tugging my coat tighter around me before walking inside.

Right at the entrance, I shrugged off my jacket and hung it on the coat rack by the door.

The air was thick with music, laughter, and the smell of alcohol. It wasn't my kind of place, too loud, too crowded, too... chaotic. But somehow, that felt fitting tonight.

I made my way to the bar counter and slid onto an empty stool.

"What can I get you?" the bartender asked, wiping down a glass.

"Whiskey. Neat."

He raised a brow but didn't comment, simply poured the drink and placed it in front of me

I stared at the liquid for a moment, then took a slow sip, letting it burn its way down. It did little to ease the tightness in my chest

"Happy birthday, Jake," I muttered under my breath.

"Now, what's someone as pretty as you doing here, all alone?" The deep voice startled me, pulling me from my thoughts. I turned to see the man behind it.

He was tall, with broad shoulders that filled out his black suit perfectly. His sharp jawline looked like it had been carved by an artist, and his dark eyes, oh this man was fine. He looked like someone who knew exactly who he was and how much power he held.

I blinked, momentarily caught off guard by his presence.

"And the same goes for you," I replied, trying to sound unaffected by his striking features, even though he was literally staring into my soul.

He smirked, a small curve of his lips that somehow seemed both charming and dangerous. "Logan," he said, extending his hand.

"Amelia," I replied, shaking it. His grip was firm, his touch warm. Our eyes locked again, longer than necessary.

"So," Logan began, leaning slightly against the counter, "why didn't your boyfriend show up tonight? He stood you up?"

The question caught me off guard, and I stiffened. My heart skipped a beat, and I narrowed my eyes on him. "Do I know you?"

"Maybe," he said, his expression unreadable.

My defenses went up immediately. "He didn't stand me up," I said firmly, though I could hear the uncertainty in my voice.

Logan clicked his tongue, his hand slipping into his pocket. "Are you sure about that?" He pulled out his phone and held it up to me.

Before I could respond, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He held it up, and my breath caught in my throat.

On the screen was Jake,my Jake-shirtless in bed, holding Beth, my best friend, against his chest. She was laughing, her hair a mess, wrapped in his sheets.

I froze. My blood ran cold.

"Look familiar?" Logan asked casually, as if he hadn't just shattered my world.

I stared at the screen, my mind reeling. My chest tightened, and it felt like all the air had been sucked out of the room. "How... how did you get this?"

"Connections," he replied, his tone calm.

A tear slipped down my cheek. I couldn't stop it.

No. No, this couldn't be real. Jake wouldn't do this.

Beth wouldn't...

But deep down? I had suspected something. Just not this. Not them.

"A woman of your caliber doesn't deserve to be cheated on," Logan said, pulling out a handkerchief from his pocket and handing it to me.

I took it hesitantly, dabbing at my cheeks as I struggled to compose myself.

"I know who you are, Amelia Connells," he continued, his voice low and steady. "The heiress to Connells Enterprises. You don't need to settle for someone like Jake."

I swallowed hard, my throat tight. "What do you want from me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

He leaned closer, his dark eyes holding mine. "How about a little proposal?"

"What do you mean?"

Logan smiled faintly, a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "A relationship with me. For three months."

His words hung in the air, and I stared at him, completely caught off guard. My mind raced, but no words came out.

Chapter 2 002

I leaned against the bar chair, my arms folded tightly, staring at Logan. His calm expression only made me more curious.

"Why should I agree to this?" I asked, my voice steady but my heart racing.

Logan's lips curled into a sly smile as he leaned forward, resting his elbows on the counter.

"It's simple, make him regret ever cheating on you." he said, his voice low and smooth. "Jake will see you with me, he'll see us together and he'll be jealous. He'll realize what he's lost and chase you back. Then if you accept him back eventually, you can make Beth regret betraying you."

I blinked, my brows furrowing at his words. Did he really think Jake deserved another chance after what I saw today? I want to make him pay.

"I know how much you love him," Logan added casually, his tone almost teasing.

"Loved," I corrected sharply. The word tasted bitter in my mouth.

Logan chuckled softly, his dark eyes gleaming. "Plus, we could be the power couple everyone envies, Miss Connells and Mr Logan Wills.," he teased, his smirk widening as if he already knew I'd say yes.

Despite myself, a small smile tugged at the corners of my lips. I hated how he already had a tiny effect on me. But I quickly suppressed it, folding my arms tighter.

"Why are you even doing this? What's in it for you?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.

His smirk deepened, and he leaned in, closer to me. "That's my business, not yours."

"Well," I shot back, "I guess I'm part of that business now."

For the first time, his gaze softened, and he tilted his head slightly. "Fairs.... well, because it'll entertain me and because..." his eyes locked with mine, steady, unflinching, "I hate seeing women like you; women with high standards – being humiliated by men who don't even belong in your league."

I was speechless and didn't know what to say because I just freaking felt butterflies in my stomach. Was that supposed to happen to someone you just met?

"So," he said, leaning back in his chair with an air of nonchalance, "what do you say, Miss Amelia? Be mine for three months?"

I hesitated, my mind racing with everything that had happened in the past few hours. Jake's betrayal, this man's strange yet oddly tempting offer, it all felt overwhelming.

But then I thought about Jake. About how I had supported him, believed in him, given him everything he wanted. And this was how he chose to repay me? Cheating on me with my bestfriend? And oh Beth, you traitor.

I straightened in my seat, my smile hardening. "Fine," I said, nodding slowly. "I'll be your girlfriend, Mr. Logan."

Logan's smirk widened, and for a moment, I felt like I had just made a deal with the devil.

---

The next morning, I woke up to sunlight streaming through the large windows of my bedroom. I stretched lazily, letting the soft sheets slide against my skin.

My room was spacious and elegant, decorated in soft cream and gold tones. A chandelier hung from the ceiling, and a tray of breakfast; croissants, fresh fruit, and coffee waited on the bedside table.

But even the comfort of my room couldn't distract me from the whirlwind of emotions still swirling inside me.

I reached for my laptop, unable to resist the urge to know more about this... Logan. I mean I had to know who I was dealing with. I typed his name into the search bar, and almost immediately, the results flooded in.

"Logan Wills - Heir of Regals Enterprises."

I blinked at the headline, my curiosity growing. I've heard about that company before.

Regals Enterprises was a massive company, known for its luxury brands and high-profile ventures. Logan wasn't just some charming stranger, of course, his father used to be one of the most influential men in the country. Well, 'was' because I remember that about 3 years ago, their company went bankrupt or something like that. But it's rising again...it's top 10 most successful in the US actually.

I was impressed, because it's all thanks to Logan.

As I scrolled through the articles, my phone buzzed on the nightstand. I glanced at the screen, and my stomach churned.

LOML.

I stared at the name I had once saved for Jake, my chest tightening with a mixture of anger and disgust. How could I have been so blind?

I hit "Decline" and quickly opened my contacts, editing his name to "Jake." I couldn't stand the sight of those letters mocking me anymore.

My phone rang again. And again.

I clenched my jaw, my patience wearing thin. Finally, I switched the phone off and tossed it onto the bed. Jake could wait.

I showered and as I was getting dressed, a familiar voice called from outside my bedroom door.

"Amelia," Mama Linda said softly.

I turned to see her standing in the doorway, her kind face full of warmth. She had been my nanny since I was a little girl, and even now, she was more like family than staff.

"A man is waiting for you outside," she said with a small smile. "He said his name is Logan."

Logan. Just hearing his name made my stomach flutter slightly, though I wasn't still sure why.

"Tell him I'll be there in a minute," I said, returning her smile.

I crossed to my wardrobe, running my fingers over the rows of dresses. After a moment's hesitation, I pulled out a red dress. It was simple yet elegant, hugging my figure in all the right places. The vibrant color brought out the warm tones in my skin and complemented my hazel eyes.

As I smoothed the dress over my hips and checked my reflection, I couldn't help but feel a small surge of confidence. If Logan was going to insist on this charade, I might as well play the part.

When I stepped outside, Logan was waiting by his car. He looked as sharp as ever in a navy suit, his dark hair perfectly styled. The morning sunlight made his skin glow, and as much as I'd hate to admit I couldn't look away.

"Stunning," he said, his voice low and smooth.

I rolled my eyes, though I couldn't help the small smile that crept onto my lips. "Flattery won't get you anywhere, Mr. Wills."

"Oh, I beg to differ," he replied with a smirk, opening the car door for me.

We arrived at an upscale office building, its sleek glass exterior reflecting the bright morning sunlight. Inside, Logan led me to a private meeting room where the contract was waiting.

As I skimmed through the document, my heart raced. This was all so surreal. A part of me couldn't believe I was going through with this.

It was like a mini secret wedding. The w thought of that made me chuckle.

"So," Logan said, breaking the silence. "Any questions?"

I looked up at him, my brow furrowed. "Why do we even need a contract? Isn't this a bit... excessive?"

Logan shrugged, his expression unreadable. "Call it a formality. I like things to be clear and professional."

I studied his face, searching for any hint of ulterior motives. But Logan Wills was a man of mystery, and his poker face gave nothing away.

With a deep breath, I signed the document.

As we left the building, Logan placed a hand on the small of my back, guiding me toward the car. His touch was light yet firm, and for some reason, it sent a shiver down my spine.

"Amelia!"

The sound of my name froze me in place

Chapter 3 003

I turned slowly, my heart sinking as I saw Jake standing a few feet away. His expression was a mix of surprise and confusion, and for a moment, I couldn't breathe.

"What are you doing here, Amelia?" Jake's voice cut through the air, it sounded sharp and demanding.

I stopped mid-step, my breath catching as I turned to him. He stood a few feet away from me, his brows pulled together;was it anger, guilt? I wasn't sure.

My hands tightened at my sides, nerves mixing with rising anger. How dare he act like he had the right to question me??

"I could ask you the same thing," I shot back, my voice came out colder than I had expected. Folding my arms tightly across my chest, I willed myself to stay composed.

Jake took a step forward, his shoes crunching against the ground. "You should remember I have a tracker on your phone, you know, the one you suggested I'd get." he said, his tone as though he didn't know about anything that was going on.

"I sighed. I should never have suggested that. That's what blind love does. I never even asked him for his.

"A tracker?" Logan chuckled, mockingly.

"Jake, can you.."

"Amelia, I was dead worried about you!" he interrupted. "You weren't answering my calls. I thought you might be in danger or something, what if...."

I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "You're unbelievable. If you care so much, you should've started by being honest with me."

Before he could respond, Logan stepped into view, his calm demeanor an obvious difference to Jake's agitated one.

This man moved with so much ease that made Jake's anger look childish. Confident, steady, unbothered and for some stupid reason, my heart skipped a beat just watching him.

Jake's eyes darted to him, narrowing. "Who is he?" His voice dripped with suspicion and jealousy.

"I'm Logan." Logan's voice was steady, almost nonchalant, as he took a step closer. Extending his hand, he added, "Nice to meet you."

Jake looked at the offered hand like it was poison. Instead of shaking it, he scanned Logan from head to toe, his lips curling in distaste.

"Amelia Comnels," Jake said, turning his attention back to me, "Who would have thought you'd cheat on me?"

His words hit me like a slap to the face. For a moment, all I could do was stare at him, stunned by the sheer audacity of the accusation.

"How dare you, Jake?" I spat, my voice shaking with anger. "How dare you act like you didn't cheat on me last night? and God knows how many times you have."

His face paled, and he opened his mouth, but no words came out.

"Well?" I pressed, taking a step closer to him. "Nothing to say?"

"Who... who told you that?" he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.

"So, you're not denying it?" My voice cracked, and I felt the tears fighting to roll down my cheeks.

Jake hesitated, then let out a deep sigh, his shoulders slumping. "No Amelia, I'm not denying it," he admitted, his tone low.

Behind me, Logan chuckled softly. "This is getting interesting," he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.

That was it. I couldn't hold back anymore. My hand shot out before I even realized what I was doing, and the sound of the slap echoed through the air. I slapped Jake's on the face.

"You bastard!" I hissed, my hands shaking with rage. "How could you? After everything I've done for you!" My tears were now coming out freely. I couldn't hold in the hurt I felt.

He winced, his hand flying to his cheek, but I didn't care. I stepped closer, my fists pounding against his chest.

"You used me!" I shouted, my voice breaking. "You lied to me, Jake! I gave you everything! everything! And this is how you repay me? By sleeping with my bestfriend?"

"Amelia, stop!" Jake's hands came up, trying to grab my wrists, but I jerked away.

"Don't touch me!" I screamed, my voice dripping with anger.

Suddenly, strong arms wrapped around me from behind, pulling me away from him. "Amelia," Logan's voice was calm but firm, his breath warm against my ear. "That's enough."

I stopped struggling, my chest heaving as I cried against Logan's chest. Jake stood there, his face red and his hands clenched at his sides, but he didn't say a word.

"You dare play the victim, Jake." I said, my voice trembling with my barely contained tears. "You're the one who betrayed me, Jake."

"And you're standing here with another man, sure" He shot back, his eyes narrowing as he adjusted his clothes.

Logan let out a low chuckle. "I'm right here, you know. Watch how you speak to her," he said, his tone serious.

Jake stared at him. "Stay out of this."

"Well, I'm not sure I can do that," Logan replied, his grip on my arms loosening slightly. "Especially when you're the one making baseless accusations."

"Baseless?" Jake snapped, his voice rising. "You think I don't see what's going on here? You've fed her with rubbish lies. You're trying to steal her from me."

"Steal her?" Logan raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. "You've already lost her. And just judging by that slap, you know it too."

Jake turned his gaze back to me, his eyes pleading now. "Amelia, If you just let me–"

"You don't get to explain!" I interrupted, my voice low because I couldn't shout any longer. "You cheated on me, Jake! Do you even realize how much I gave up for you? How much I trusted you? Do you know the things I did for you, Jake."

He opened his mouth to speak, but before he could say anything, the sound of a car door opening caught our attention.

I turned my head, my heart sinking as I saw my bestfriend, Beth step out of Jake's car. My stomach churned as she walked toward us, smiling sheepishly.

She had always had an air of confidence, something that brought us together as friends or so I thought.

Her face showed zero remorse. I knew a day when Beth might do something stupid to me would come, but not just in a way like this.
