ADRIAN
I stared at the newspaper in my hand with so much anger and hatred. How dare she? How dare Mila do this to me?
Throughout the relationship, she had gained more than I ever had! I had showered her with so much luxury than she could ever have dreamed about, and this was what she was paying me with!
ADRIAN NIKALAUO GOT ME PREGNANT!
How?
We had been together for three whole months and only had sex just one fucking time, when I was drunk! And that was even the first time we met. After that it was endless dates and credit card appointments and visits that always ended in me not being able to get an erection!
My cock had laid down flat throughout the three months we were together. So how had she gotten pregnant?
I was goin to deal with Mila and she wasn't going to know what hit her.
She could kiss her whole modeling career goodbye!
I was done being good and always getting paid with rotten coins.
I tossed the newspaper away, ready to pick up my phone when my two brothers, Leander and Theo, burst into my office. Leo had the newspaper in his hands so I already knew what they were here for.
"I don't know if I should pity you, or just laugh at how funny this situation is." Were the words that left Leander's lips as he took a sit on the comfortable couch in my office. Completely ignoring the chairs at the other side of my table.
I shook my head. "If you guys came to mock me,go ahead. I deserve it for not listening to you both." I said in resignation. They had warned me after I had told them of my first meeting with Mila at Leander's birthday party four months ago. But I had refused to listen even after they had told me countless times, how much of a gold digger she was.
"Oh, we haven't come to mock you. As much as we would love to do that, we have an issue on ground." Theo said, and set the paper on my table, before taking his own seat opposite me.
I frowned. "What do you mean we have an issue on ground?" I asked, my ears peaking.
I and my two brothers ran a footwear company that specializes in sports and cooperate shoes designing and production.
We were all partners and shared our profits equally.
Theo pointed at the paper as Leander stood up from the sofa and came to sit beside Theo. "Yiladas called. The news is everywhere. Kulkicks called too." From his expression and tone, I didn't need to ask him any question to know that whatever had been said in those calls were serious. "They said they cannot deal with a company that is full of scandals. It's bad for their reputation." It was totally understandable.
I hated when things like these happened to me. It wasn't even the first or second time. It felt like I was a magnet for gold diggers.
"So two of my biggest investors have pulled out. What next? We go bankrupt?" The question was thrown more to myself than the two men across me.
Leander sighed. "I tried to talk to them, but it was only Kulkicks who gave me an answer. According to them, if you can at least try to show commitment, then they could resume business dealings with you." What?
I looked at my brother. "Are you being serious? What does my relationship have to do with business? It's one thing telling me that they can't do business with me because of the scandals, and it's another thing shading me and telling me what to do in a relationship." I stated, flatly.
It was Theo who spoke next. "Don't you think it's high time you do things our way? I mean, look for a suitable woman, make her sign a contract agreeing to be your mistress." My eyebrows raised as he spoke. "Look at the bright side of things. The media is out for you, and people are beginning to speak ill of you. This could get you back in the good light, and also salvage the company."
"I see your point, brother, but at this stage, the last thing I need is a woman. I am done!" I was being brutally honest. Just thinly about going close to a woman again made shivers run down my spine. I shook my head. "I'm not taking a mistress." I stated clearly, leaving no room for argument.
Both Theo and Leander looked like they wanted to say something, but just stayed quiet, staring at me like I was being unreasonable.
I wasn't.
Like hell was I going to take a mistress and put myself in another hellhole! I still had to clear my name for this non-existent baby Mila was having.
My phone rang piercing through the silence that had come upon the room. I fished it out while Theo and Leander whispered to each other.
Mother.
"Fuck! It's mother." I said and watched as they both Ross their hands in unison. It would have been funny seeing the expression on their faces at the mention of our mother, but the situation was serious. I wondered why she was calling so early in the morning.
"Kalimera, Mama." I said as soon as I picked up the call and pressed the phone to my ears.
As expected, a torrent of curses in Greek rolled out of her tongues as she scolded me. Theo and Leander had their hands over their mouth as they stifled laughter. "Adrian Nikalauo! So you have chosen to continue bringing shame to this family! What is this I see on the news? It's everywhere! Your father is mad, Adrian!" I could picture her as she placed a hand on her forehead in a bid to curb her anger.
"I'm sorry, Ma. It's just this woman blackmailing me. I swear it isn't true_" I tried to explain, but she cut me off, not even wanting g to hear anything.
"A woman is blackmailing you! Oh, I know you would never get a woman pregnant and deny it, but I am still disappointed and mad at you. You are ruining the name of this family, but at home, and across the world! I've told you and your brothers to get yourselves wives. If you had all listened to I and your father, you wouldn't be having these kind of problems."
Oh dear! Not the wife card!
"Ma, I promise I'll sort it out!" I said, trying to reassure her. But she wasn't having it.
"Oh I know you would, but as soon as this has blown over, you would come back home and take Evangeline as your wife. We have given you enough time to get yourself one already, and we are fed up."
Wait what!
"Ma_" I tried to speak.
But she interrupted me once again. "Tell your brothers I can hear them snicker!" And with that, the hung up on me.
Leander and Theo burst out laughing. "Oh, you getting it bad this time brother. Evangeline is a pretty girl anyway." Leander said in between laughs.
Like hell was I going to marry Evangeline. It didn't take me time to come to a decision. "Tell me more about this mistress thing." I said without thinking twice.
I wasn't ready to get married. Not after all I had passed through on the hands of those women!
CARA
I walked down the hallway of my apartment, heading to the kitchen. My mission was to have some delicious banana pancakes and hot chocolate, before going to work. I deserved it, after a long weekend of nonstop writing as I had a deadline to meet. I had missed work on Friday since I had been sent on an errand by my boss.
Being a writer had to be one of the most difficult things to do. I loved my job, but it did take a toll on me sometimes. Especially when my brain had to work like a machine.
My phone rang as I was mixing the dry ingredients for my pancake batter.
I picked it up, then placed the phone in between my head and my shoulder as I prepared my breakfast. It was almost 6:30 in the morning and I needed to eat and rush to work.
It was my sister, Elena.
As soon as I heard the sobs, I already knew what she wanted to say. "Cade...he cheated on me again, Cara." She sobbed and went ahead to tell me how she came back home to find her boyfriend in the arms of not just one, but two women.
The nerve of that man!
I wasn't having it, so I went straight to the point. "Elena, I have told you countless time to let that man go. He's not good for you." I scolded my sister.
I was tired of her and her relationship issues, especially when I had exhausted all the advice and sympathy left in me for her. Cade was an asshole who cheated at every free minute he had to himself. And he was a fucking freeloader, draining her of all her money! "But Cara...." She tried to say, but was interrupted by a noise in the background. It sounded like something had fallen...dishes probably.
"Elena, just listen to me and break up with that guy. And this time let it be for real. He brought two women to your house! It means he doesn't even have an atom of respect for you!" I tried hard not to raise my voice at her, but I couldn't help it. I inhaled and exhaled, trying to calm myself down before I said anything else. "Listen, I know you have never taken a break from work before, and you probably have all that leave piled up for you. How about you just take a short break? Two to four weeks. Come back home and clear your head. I'm sure it will do you good." I shrugged, stirring the pancake batter I had in my hands. "At least it will give you enough time to think and reflect about your relationship." I started to slice the bananas as I waited for her to speak.
"Fine. I'll think about it. A holiday actually sounds great." Another noise in the background. "I have to go now, I'll call and let you know my final decision." She said.
"I love you, sis. Take care." I smiled, as of she could even see me.
"I love you too. And thank you for always taking our time to listen to me."
"You are welcome." I replied and hung up the phone. But not before I heard Cade yell at my sister.
The only reason I didn't stop whatever I was doing to intervene in the fight I knew was going to happen was that, no matter bad their arguments got, Cade could never go physical on her. He couldn't even raise a finger.
Elena was a marine.
I reached my office at exactly 7:50am, and wasted no time walking straight to my bosses office to submit all I had prepared. I wasn't nervous at all as I strode past coworkers and entered the elevator, pressing the button that would take me to the last floor. Where my boss's office was. Gabriel Richardson, who so happened to be my boss, was a force to be reckoned with. He had thought me all I knew today about the media. Well not directly teachings...but I had learned from countless rejected articles and humiliation from being the worst in the company. It had taken me three years of hard work to become the best I was today in the whole of Daily Lines. The biggest news outlet in the whole country.
Which was why I strode confidently towards the office of my boss. In my suitcase, I had the biggest article ever about the one and only Adrian Nikalauo. The country's hottest and most eligible bachelor. Oh, and not only that, he was the richest on Forbes list of under thirty self made billionaires. Followed by his brothers, Leander Nikalauo, and Theo Nikalauo, respectively. Three of them, were to die for, and they just happened to be Greek!
As drool worthy as Adrian was, I couldn't skip the gossip about him getting some model pregnant. And I had taken out my time to speak to Mila who had given me every juicy detail about it all. In fact, my whole weekend was spent digging out all the dirt I could find about Adrian. Although, there wasn't so much, his history with women was enough to get the whole country to talk about him for a very long time. Which was good for our company.
I smiled and soothed down my skirt, preparing to enter the office when the door burst open, revealing the very satisfactory and smiling face of non other than..
Mila Greyson!
She didn't even spare me a glance as she tucked something into her purse and walked away, leaving me standing with my mouth hanging open.
What the hell was going on?
Why had Mila been in my bosses office?
Dread filled me as I stared at the suitcase on my hand with fear.
"Cara I can see you on the screen standing in front of my office. Get yourself in here and show me the damn article. I don't have all day." He called out from the slightly open door.
Shit!
I had already called him on Sunday afternoon to tell him about the article I was working on.
Oh dear!
What was I going to do?
CARA
I took a deep breath before walking into my bosses office, only to see him stand up quickly. "Good morning, Mr Richardson." I said with a low voice.
But he just nodded quickly, and then in a blink of an eye, he had rushed out of the office. "Stay where you are, Ellison. I'll be right back." He called from outside the office.
I frowned.
Maybe he was going to get something. At least it would give me time to prepare for what was to come.
I took a seat in one of the two chairs available at the front of his desk and took out my laptop and all the printouts I made. It was when I wanted to take out my pen I saw the news paper on Mr Richardson's desk.
And the picture on the front almost made me pass out. Somehow, my boss had already gotten a hold of the exact news I had worked my ass off to prepare for him.
Shit!
Double shit!
This was not good!
I could already tell the sweat on my palms as I shakily opened the paper to see the same statement Mila had given to me. The exact same statement.
Someone had gotten to her first.
Although it didn't explain why she had been in his office.
ADRIAN
I stayed in my car and looked at the building in front of me, completely and utterly angry. The Daily Lines building had to be one of the ugliest buildings I had ever seen in modern day. Especially for a company who claimed to have done a very up to standard renovation, and had also made it a point to have it printed on the very first page of their newspaper for a whole fucking month!
The building was cringe worthy!
I've always known Gabriel Richardson to be dumb, but never this dumb. This was taking it to another level.
I switched off the car, getting ready to step out and make my way into his building so we could talk about serious shit. I've always know that Gabriel held a lot of grudges against me right from high school. But I never thought he would continue to hunt me for the rest of my life. They were always the first ones to get a hold of any little trouble I ran into. And it always turned out to be women issues.
This was the fifth time.
Each time, I always ended up paying handsomely to get the articles removed from their papers and websites. This time I was fucking exhausted and I wanted us to speak face to face. Whatever he had with me has to end.
I sighed and alighted from my car, shutting the door and was just about to make my way over to the entrance when I saw Mila walk out of the building, a smile plastered on her face.
What was she doing here?
I took a step forward then stopped when I saw Gabriel run out of the building and guide her with his arm towards the side of the building. They said something to each other and laughed like teenagers.
Then right before my very eyes, Gabriel leaned over and kissed her. What!
Since my phone was still in my hand, I didn't let emotions get the better of me as I quickly opened my camera, zoomed in, and took as many pictures as I could of them, then opened the video camera and recording them as they finally ended their kiss and Gabriel walked her to her car.
After that, I turned and walked back to my car, which was just about five steps behind me. I felt cold down to my bones.
What the hell had I witnessed?
We're they lovers?
Had they met after she had gone to give her story to him?
Or had they been together before she met me?
Had it been his plan all along?
As I got into my car, I couldn't help but get angrier than I had been when I had first arrived. Did Gabriel hate me so much that he could afford to pull off such a disgusting act just to smear my name?
Fucking hell!
I knew what to do.
And he was going to pay!
This is the part of being rich I loved. One call and I was going to get this footage all over the news and social media. Yes, I was going to go that low to save my reputation. I was done playing stupid games with Gabriel.
I uploaded the video toy icloud, not wanting to take any chance, and called Theo.
He picked on the very first ring. "Don't tell me you have finished talking to Gabriel. I mean, you just left here." he said. I had left him in the office so he was waiting for my call.
From where I sat in my car, I could still see the two idiots having all sorts of PDA, just in the corner of the building. I wondered if they weren't scared of being seen or they were just too horny. "Even better." I told Theo. "You wouldn't believe me, but I'm watching Mila and Gabriel, shoving their tongues down each other's throats as we speak. The image made me recoil in disgust, so I turned away from them. I had seen enough. "Seems like they are having an affair. I wouldn't put it past Gabriel to set me up, just to have something to write about in his boring newspaper." What kind of woman was Mila, that she could stoop so low to play such games?
"Are you serious? I hope you took a video or at least a picture?" hah! Theo definitely was on the same page as me.
"Of course I did. Please prepare all the media outlets we are close to, this is going as viral as possible. By the time I use her as a scape goat, others will learn." I said, with determination.
"On it. Just forward the video to me, and leave the rest to my capable hands." Theo said, and I could already see him smirking.
I did as he asked, starting my car, and driving away, not eben bothering to look behind me to see if those two were still there.
It was only matter of time before they knew that I had indeed, come around.
For now, I needed to go back to the office, finish up my work, and head over to a club. The day wasn't over yet, and I had already had a long day.
