The Kidnap "That mark lee! How dare he build his hospital in that area! How did he even manage to get that land from the old lady, anyway?" Zuzzy barked at her secretary. She had been dying to get that piece of land. But the old lady who owned it had been refusing to sell, even though she had approached her with multiple lucrative offers. The Lees were the owners of the lee specialist Hospitals. They were also her family's longtime rival.
She had just found out that Old Master Lee, the Chairman of the Lee Specialist Hospitals, had recently appointed his firstborn son to be the new Chief Executive Officer of their group. She had never met Mark Lee in person, but she had already heard so much about him. He was quite a well-known figure to most; not for his achievements in the healthcare industry, but more for his stellar reputation of being a womanizer. As the rumors said, he was known to swap his girlfriends as often as he changed his socks. "Don't tell me he has already added that old lady to his list of conquest!?" Zuzzy sneered with a tightness in her voice. Rita gulped. She was hesitant to say something or anything at all because her boss really had a bad temper. She might have looked youthful and innocent on the outside because of her pretty baby-faced look, but behind that facade, she was actually a scary monster. Yes, she was Zuzzy shi, who was widely known as the 'witch Doctor' who had saved hundreds of lives. They called her by that nickname because it was said that she could conjure magic to heal any patients whom she was in charge of. But those who had interacted with her directly had drawn their own conclusion. They firmly believed that the nickname was created because of her being a total witch to everyone around her. Zuzzy looked at Rita impatiently. She was obviously waiting for an answer from her secretary. Rita cleared her throat and said, "Ma'am, from what I heard, Mr. Mark Lee is someone with a silver-tongue. He can be quite the sweet-talker. The old lady was moved by his way of words, and hence was easily persuaded." Zizzy scowled at Rita as her face reddened. She fumed, "So, are you saying that I don't know how to talk nicely? Or that I'm difficult to talk to? Not even good with words? That's why I have failed to convince the old lady?" "No, no, Ma'am, that's not what I meant at all. What I meant was that Mark Lee is someone with a lot of charm. He's smooth-spoken and glib... he uses a lot of flowery words, and..." Rita quickly replied, trying to placate her boss, but she decided to pause because the more she listened to her own words, the more Rita thought that she was digging her own grave. "So, I lack the charm? Is that so, Rita? And do I use harsh-sounding words because I don't know how to use flowery words?" Zuzzy scoffed as she squinted an eye accusingly. She wanted that piece of land so desperately and found it hard to accept that she had lost the opportunity to obtain it, not from just anyone, but from their very own rival. Rita sighed silently. She didn't dare tell her boss that she was just too rigid. The way she talked had always been without emotion and matter-of-factly, like a robot. Miss Zuzzy rarely smiled and had never bothered to put on the pretense of being subtle at all. She always preferred to be frank and to the point. It was no wonder that she had failed to get the old lady's approval. From what she had gathered, Rita knew that Mark Lee did not start his negotiation with the old lady by talking about business straight away. He had waited patiently until he had succeeded in building a good rapport with her before he even dared raise the real subject of interest. In the end, he had won the old lady's partiality, and she was more than willing to sell him the land. "Get out, Rita, before I reduce your bonus for this year," said Zuzzy in a menacing voice. Zuzzy didn't need any more explanations from Shan to know why she had failed the negotiation. She could already tell, by merely looking at Rita's reaction. Her mobile phone rang; it was Abraham , her fiance. She drew out a long breath. Abraham was the fiance whom her family had selected for her. Their families had been close friends for many years, and they had arranged for their children to marry each other. He wanted to meet her to celebrate her birthday together. He knew that she hated parties and would prefer to celebrate it alone with him. Zuzzy and Abraham enjoyed their exclusive dinner in his yacht together. They had been engaged for almost one year but had not shared any intimate moments yet. It was because she had never wanted to do it. Whenever Abraham would take the initiative, she would always refuse him. She was grateful that he had still been understanding and respectful of her wish. It was already late, and the stars were shining brightly in the sky. Zuzzy was standing by the railing of the yacht when she felt Abraham hug her from behind. "Aren't you cold?" Abraham asked as he kissed her bare shoulder before covering it with his blazer. "A little bit... By the way, did you get a new cook?" She whispered. "Yeah, the usual one is currently on leave... Why? Didn't you like the food?" Abraham asked. "I liked it. I just noticed that it was not your usual cook." Zuzzy answered, and she heard Abraham chuckle. "What?" She asked, slightly confused. "Nothing, I just find it amusing that you've managed to take notice of how different the food tasted, but you failed to see the romantic ambiance of the room," Abraham replied. Zuzzy detected a hint of sullen moodiness in his voice, so she turned around to face him and smiled. But she felt dizzy all of a sudden and the last thing she knew was that she and Abraham had both fallen onto the ground. Everything went pitch-black in an instant, but she was still in her senses. "They blacked out already. Hurry and take the woman!" a man's voice said. "What should we do about the man?" asked another voice. "Leave him here. We will only take the woman as instructed, so hurry," the man answered. Zuzzy felt her body being lifted off the ground. She wanted to scream and struggle, but she couldn't move at all. 'Is this my end? No, it can't be! I'm still young, and I don't want to die like this!' That was the last thing that she had thought to herself before the drug in her body had completely taken over and made her slump into unconsciousness.
Zuzzy woke up with a blindfold over her eyes and her wrists bound together with duct tape behind her back. She could hear male voices, and they were in the middle of a discussion about something. "Such a waste to kill a cute lady like her," said one man. "Too bad they have instructed us not to touch even a single strand of her hair. Otherwise, it would have been fun to play with her a bit before we kill her. But now we just have to wait, dude," said another one, followed by a crazy laughter. "Did you manage to make a cute video of her?" asked another one.
Yera's face paled in horror as realization dawned upon her that this was not a dream. This was real. She had really been abducted. She quickly tried to loosen the duct tape on her wrists. She must find a way to escape. "Yes, we got her. What do you want me to do next? Alright, I understand," she heard another man speak. She presumed he was talking to the person who was behind her abduction. "Let me go! What do you want? Is it money? I will give you three times the amount they're paying you. Or you can name your price, just let me go," she spoke louder, making sure she was heard. "Shut up, another word, and we will kill you!" A man shouted. "I need to pee!" Yera shouted. She felt a hand abruptly pull her up and lead her to walk. "You have to remove my blindfold and untie me!" She hissed. Then the voice which she had confirmed to belong to the leader of the group said, "Just do what she asked, she can never escape anyway." "Do it fast, or I'll barge in without a warning, milady," the man jeered after he removed her blindfold and ripped the duct tape off her wrists with a knife. In a sudden surge of anger, Yera's face reddened and her muscles tensed, but she managed to control herself. Inside the restroom, she quickly checked the blazer that Lyndon had put on her. And she almost jumped for joy when she saw a keychain knife attached to the car keys inside the blazer's pocket. She took it out and clipped it inside the back of her tight slack pants where she could easily pull it out if needed. "Time's up!" the man shouted and barged in. He taped her wrists together and put the blindfold on her again. Several hours had passed, and the surroundings had become quiet. Except for the loud sounds of snoring, Yera could not hear anything else. She immediately sat herself up and pulled the keychain knife out from the back of her pants and tried to slit the tape that was binding her wrists with it. She made sure to be careful enough not to make a sound. After she succeeded in freeing her hands, she removed the blindfold and moved furtively to look for an exit. She was right, three men had passed out drunk on the floor. She noticed that one man was missing because she was sure she heard four distinctive voices before. She became alert. With trembling body, she tried to walk as quietly as possible. She knew that the missing man was probably just roaming around the place. She succeeded in getting out, but it was too dark. Then she heard shouts and pursuing footsteps from behind her. Yera dashed as fast as she could. She felt as though she was running in an endless forest of trees and darkness. She fell and tripped several times but hurriedly got back up. She heard gunshots from behind. And she fell. She felt a burning pain in her body, but she ignored it and continued her speed, but then she tripped once more... "No, I won't die like this!" She clenched her teeth and got back up to run again. The banging sounds roared in her ears, but she did not stop. Even if she slipped and staggered, and had to drag herself through the rugged terrain, she never stopped. She always got up and ran again. It was so dark. But all that was on Yera's mind was to keep running until she got away from those men. She didn't even notice that she was already near a mountain river. Her breathing was ragged, and she was limping slowly. She could feel that her legs were giving up on her, but she tried to run even faster. She could smell her own blood mixed with the musty and earthy scent of the river. "It's so cold," she murmured. She felt the stinging of her wounds, as the cold covered her now soaked body, both from water and blood. "Oh God, please spare me and let me live," she prayed silently as she continued to move forward because she could still hear the loud voices nearing from behind. They were all shouting at her to stop, or they will shoot. "Darn those bastards! Aren't they already shooting at me?" She hissed scornfully. She never stopped and continued to move. Based on what she heard during their conversations, she knew they would kill her anyway, once their big boss succeeded with his plan. Someone influential and close was behind her abduction, and his target must have been their family business. "Once I survive this, I will make sure to hunt you down, whoever you are!" She was already too weak to proceed, but she knew she must keep going. 'I have to survive this! I must live! Yera, you must survive and live!' She raised her own morale before she totally passed out and fell down a waterfall. "F*uck! F*uck!" cursed the man who had reached the end of the river to look at Yera's body that had fallen down the waterfall. "Boss, what do we do now...? We will be dead meat because of this mess," the man who had fired the gun at Yera stammered.
The loud sound of birds chirping through the window woke her up. Just as she tried opening her eyes, the brightness of the room made her shit her eyes tightly, she tried opening her eyes slowly. She looked around and saw that she is in a hut but Everything seemed unfamiliar to her. She stirred and tried to get up. "Ouch!" She cried as she felt a sharp pain in her body. Her head was pounding, and she felt a little dizzy. She blinked several times and looked around. She slowly stood up and walked outside.
There were so many trees, and the warm and gentle breeze blowing from those trees touched her smooth and pale face. "You're finally awake, child," said an old woman, who was walking towards her. She stood in front of her and held her wrist to feel her pulse. "It's finally normal. You will soon be back in good shape. It's a miracle that you woke up," The old woman said with a smile. "I'm the Chief Doctor in this village. You can call me Chief Doctor yang. What is your name, child? You were severely injured and barely breathing when I found you. You were unconscious for two weeks," Doctor yang explained. "I... hmm I am... sorry but I don't know. I can't remember my name... Ahhh..." she stammered and touched her temple unconsciously as she felt a sudden jolt of pain in her head. Doctor yang creased his forehead and stared at her. "It could be because of the hit you got on your head... Tell me, child, what about the last thing that happened to you? Do you remember?" Doctor yang asked, and she just gently shook her head. Doctor yang later tested her on fundamental things. She was asked about letters and numbers, if she knew how to write and read, if she knew the current year, if she knew the name of several objects. She also asked other questions with regards to matters of common sense. After all that, she helped her to a hearty meal, Doctor yang explained, "You are suffering from amnesia, child. But it seems like your knowledge about basic things remained intact. You only lost part of your memories about your own life. There are many types of amnesia, but for now, I will observe how you progress." Doctor yang saw the confusion and frustration on her face. "Hmm, don't worry, child. You have escaped death so you will overcome this predicament too. For now, let me give you a name. You can also use my surname, as I don't have a child of my own, I won't mind adopting you until you remember anything about yourself ."she suggested as she looked at her with a tender smile. She smiled back, but unlike hers, hers was a soulless smile. Not knowing about her past made her feel incomplete. But even more importantly, she was puzzled at the fact that she was found unconscious on a riverbank. She was on the brink of death from the fall and a gunshot wound. Why? How? Her thoughts were interrupted by a sudden excitement in Doctor yang's voice as she proposed a name for her, "How about I call you 'Beatrice yang'?" Her lips curled into a smile, and she whispered, "Beatrice... I like it." She said with a smile Mark sat on the couch in his office when he saw the headlines of the news. The trending news was about the missing heiress of the hope Hospitals Group and the sudden hospitalization of Old Master Shi. "This is total chaos for their group since Old Master Shi and Zuzzy Shi have both held the highest positions and own most of the company's shares. I believe her fiance's family will take over since the Songs are the next biggest shareholders," his assistant said. Mark's eyebrows arched, "Don't you think something is really odd? Why would they leave that song guy behind? He's also loaded, right?" Assistant kim scratched his head. He had also thought about it, but until the official investigation was finished, everything was just a speculation. Both men were startled by an abrupt opening of the door. It was Senior Lee with a gloomy and darkened face directed at Mark. "Leave us!" he shouted at Assistant Kim. The latter quickly obeyed. The young master would surely receive a massive sermon this time, and he would still have left the room even if Senior Lee didn't instruct him to. "When will you stop? Dammit, Mark! How many women are you planning to be in a scandal with? You date different girls every week. For goodness sake!" Hissed Senior Lee. Mark rolled his eyes, and said, "Dad, what do you want me to do? You're the one who asked for this! You kept saying you wanted a grandchild! 'Get married,' you said! 'Continue the family line,' that's what you've always told me! But to do that, I need to find the right woman that would... Darn!" Mark couldn't even finish the sentence. How could he prolong dating any of those women or embark on a romantic journey with them, when his stupid little buddy down there wouldn't even salute to any of them. Yes, he had a very unique and a very unexplainable disease. What he had was what various doctors termed as a 'SELECTIVE erectile dysfunction'. How absurd, you might say? Yes, It was indeed as absurd as it might sound! Because even the doctors could not explain why he was experiencing such a thing when everything about him was perfectly normal. All the tests were normal. Mark was perfectly healthy. So how come his little buddy refused to act just as how the little buddy of a perfectly normal and healthy man was supposed to work? "Dad, I told you none of those women could make it work. I'm very frustrated too! Being labeled as a playboy when I barely even touched any of those women," Mark protested. Senior Lee sighed as he desperately implored his son, "Can't you at least tone it down? Or do everything discreetly? For goodness sake, most of those women come from prominent families, and some are well-known for their own careers, so of course, people will talk! What else do you expect?" Mark sighed and murmured, "Maybe I should just stay single forever, Dad. What do you think? Let's stop the lineage with me..." Senior Lee's jaws hardened, and his face reddened when he saw a wicked grin plastered on his son's face as he said those words. He threw whatever he could grab at Mark.
