"Look at her, she's a pathetic little wench."
The sounds of clinking chains and taunting laughter could be heard in the underground cell.
"Do you want some water?" Octavia said, holding out a bottle of unknown liquid to a wrinkly smelly person in the corner. The person sat helpless, unable to move to collect the liquid.
"Come on. I know you can move even just a bit. Come and take the water or are you not that thirsty?"
Alice tried her best to move from her curled-up position. She was half-conscious, all pulpy and bruised up, and she was being held captive in an underground dirty cell.
Her stepsister was the sweetest person she had ever known or so she thought. She was the one who put her in such a miserable position.
They wanted to see her suffer. They didn't kill her but broke her piece by piece each day.
"Please... Please just let me go. Anything you want from me. Take it. Just let me go." Alice said, her skin black and bruised. Tears pooled in her eyes.
Octavia moved away from her rolling her eyes, standing farther away. "I guess you're not thirsty." She threw the liquid to the far end of the cell, the contents seeping into the soil. She moved back, watching Alice with amusement.
Alice hurriedly crawled towards the bottle, trying to drink all she could.
"Look at you, The eldest Will daughter. Drinking sewage and chewing up sand. I don't think Father would be happy with this development." She said with an ear-splitting grin.
"She's so disgusting," Grant said, his face twisting into disgust.
"What did I do to deserve this? I-i'm sorry. What do you want? Do you want money? You can take all that I have. You can have-" Alice said, her voice cracking.
"All that you have? You don't have anything in your possession. They all belong to me now. Remember the document you signed for Grant. The one he told you was your marriage certificate and stupidly believed." Octavia said, bursting into laughter.
Alice's face twisted in confusion as a look of understanding crossed her face. She tried to get up, crawling closer to Octavia.
"Babe, I'm so scared," Octavia said moving closer to Grant, burrowing her face in his chest.
"You dare to hurt my woman." He moved closer to her, kicking her in the gut multiple times with force.
"You said you loved me, Grant. You said you loved me and you loved only me. You deceived me and you started dating my sister. How could you?" She said with tears in her eyes.
"I married your sister and we're expecting." He said looking at Octavia lovingly, rubbing her flat stomach.
"You took everything I owned, you betrayed me. You made my life a living hell, and you're married to my sister, and you're having a baby."
"That's pretty much it."
"You wouldn't believe how your dear Travis is searching for you. He looks so haggard. It's so pathetic." Octavia said with a laugh.
"That disabled imbecile. He's half of a man and you're nothing. You two deserve each other."
"He's been searching everywhere. He's even threatened me, wondering if I have anything to do with your disappearance, but I sure as hell won't tell him that." Octavia said.
"Goodbye, sister. It was delightful having you here for a while, but sadly, your time is up."
Octavia reached into her bag, bringing out a pistol.
Alice's face is covered with fear. "P-please don't kill me."
"It's a bit too late for that, don't you think."
Two loud gunshots sound and a very shrill scream. Alice's blood is pooling on the floor.
"Please, don't leave me here. Please save me. I'm sorry." Alice cried with tears and snot coming out from her nose.
She looked so different from the usually pretty girl.
"You're even uglier than I remember, you dirty thing." Grant laughed in her face, looking at her with such spite.
Alice groaned in pain, looking at them with tears-stained eyes.
"Let's go. I made reservations for dinner at Venita's. I have a very special surprise for you, my love." Grant nuzzled Octavia's neck as they both laughed in her face, glowing in happiness.
"You," Octavia said, turning to her with sharp eyes. "Don't even bother escaping because it won't happen. This place is fully loaded with bombs that would explode in an hour. Crumpling you and your useless body to nothing but debris."
"Please don't leave me here." Alice groaned with pain, her injuries only worsening as she moved.
"Good bye dear sister." She said with a sneer. "I hope I won't see you in my next life." Octavia walked out leaving Alice in the dark underground cell.
The faint beeping of the bombs could be heard. Alice screamed out for anyone to hear her but that was the most impossible thing that could happen.
"Somebody please!" She shouted to an empty cell.
"Alice!" A deep masculine voice laced with worry sounded.
Alice wasn't sure whether she was hearing properly or death had her hallucinating.
"Travis?" She said faintly, opening her eyes.
"Alice, I'm here. I'm here to save you, baby." He knelt close to her, breathing heavily trying to get the chains off her.
"You're not with your wheelchair-" Alice looked up at him. His hair was longer and greased, and his stubble had grown longer, unlike how he used to keep it. His eyes were sunken and he had heavy eye bags.
"I'm here to save you."
The beeping sounds reminded Alice of the bombs.
"No, Travis. You have to leave now. This place is going to blow up and we're going to die. Leave me. Save yourself." Alice was scared, looking at the walls and Travis.
"No."
"Travis, you have to go now. You're going to die. Leave me."
"I would never leave you, Alice."
"Travis-" A loud bang sounded through the cell. The explosion had begun.
Alice's ears whistled as Travis shielded her with his body.
"Travis, please wake up."
"Travis, look at me."
"This can't be happening. Open your eyes, Travis."
The last bang sounded. Everything had gone to pieces.
It was all over.
Alice is in excruciating pain." "Just one more chance, Just one more..." Her breath seizes.
"Miss, you need to wake up. You have school today and you don't want to be late again." A groggy voice sounded inside Alice's head.
"School?" She thought. She didn't know she had to go to college in the afterlife. Was this hell?
"Your father is waiting downstairs to eat breakfast with you. The kitchen made your favorite today." Her eyes peeled open in surprise.
Waffles in the afterlife? Her father? She was confused.
"What was going on?" She thought. She looked around her surroundings noticing it was her room from five years ago before she was killed by the stupid bitch and the man she thought adored her. Her hands clenched in anger as she remembered her death from her past life.
She looked down at her hands noticing that they were soft and clean, her nails were manicured and there were no calluses on her palms.
"Please hand me a mirror." She said to the maid by her side. The maid handed her a mirror, looking at her with brewing confusion.
Fiona looked at the mirror with shock, screaming. Almost throwing it off the bed.
"That's how we all react when we see your terrible makeup. Glad you feel the same way." The maid murmured.
Fiona touched her heavily made up face. Her lashes were thicker than feathers. The blush looked like she was a five year old child learning to mix colors. The foundation was like three shades lighter than her. Her brows were covered under the heavy foundation and her lips were painted a very short shade of green. Her hair was in pigtails with colorful bands all around. She looked heinous. She was disgusted by herself but she was here. Does that mean...
"What date is it?" She abruptly asked the maid.
The maid looked at her in confusion.Had the young Miss finally gone crazy? "It's the year 2021, February 12th 2021."
She had gone five years back. She had been reborn. She had another chance of living her life and correcting her mistakes.
"Tell my father that I'll check down soon." Alice said hurrying into the bathroom to shower and get rid of the hideous makeup.
From under her bathroom sink, she retrieved make up wipes and began to wipe the makeup from her face. She wiped until the table was filled with color stained wipes. Her face was finally clean. Her features were even more gorgeous than she remembered.
Her eyes were slanted like a cat's. She had bright sea green irises. Her nose was painted and perfect. Her lips were pink and plump and her hair was the darkest shade of black that reached her waist.
She hurriedly got in the shower as she thought about her old life.
She thought about how Octavia played her, made her think she was the perfect little sister and killed her at the end and how Grant acted like he was in love with her only for him to join forces with her stepsister and they even got married. She thought about her father's suspicious death and how quickly her stepmother was to cut her off funds and chase her out of the house. She would make them all pay dearly for their evil deeds.
She thought about Travis and how he sacrificed his life just to save her. She thought of all the ways she had treated him before. She was blinded by instigation from Octavia and manipulated into thinking things she shouldn't.
She's smarter and knows their next move literally.
She moves to her dresser and begins to apply all her creams, taking time and precision on each body part. She had another life and she was going to live this one with her well-being as number one.
She was applying some lip tint when a knock sounded. She knew who it was. It was Travis.
"Come in." She said, her voice shaking.
He wheels himself in, his face a mix of surprise and confusion. He immediately covers it up and looks at her with a scowl.
"Good morning,Alice. You-" His words were cut off when she leaped on his body.
He caught her like she doesn't weigh anything.
"I missed you." She said, burrowing her face into his neck.
"You missed me?" He said with shock.
"Yes, I missed you. I thought I'll never see you again." She said with tears stained cheeks.
"Well here I am." He said, still looking at her with a scowl.
"Yes, you are." She presses a kiss to his cheek.
His body hardened. The arm on her waist going very still.
"What happened to your face?" He asked her.
"I took off all the hideous makeup. Don't I look so beautiful?" She looked at him with shining eyes as if she were seeking compliments from him.
"You do look beautiful. With or without makeup." He said with utmost sincerity.
She giggled. "I have to go for breakfast with Dad. Would you like to come with me?"
Travis was confused and shocked. Was this another one of her plots to get him to lower his guard?
He remembered that she left school the day before only to spend time with that other boy. His smile was gone and it was replaced by a frown.
"Are you doing this for me to trust you again? So you'll go out with that silly boy."
"What silly boy?" She blinked her eyes in faux confusion. The only person I want to go out with is you silly." She laughed.
He was not amused and looked at her with slitted eyes.
"I know it's hard to believe but I am in love with you. Absolutely in love with you." She laid a peck on
his cheeks.
He froze,looking at her skeptically.
"Infact, let's get married."
This has sealed the deal. Alice had been replaced by some sort of alien who was holding her captive in a warehouse because what was she saying? Travis thought quietly to himself.
"Life's too short to not take risks. Let's just get married now. Today even."
Travis looks at her confusedly. A glimmer of home in his eyes but a faint trace of anger.
"Are you not kidding?" He asked her.
His deep voice travelled through her ears making her feel like she was in her own romance book. The thought of it made her shiver with anticipation.
"I am being very serious. As serious as aardvark." She put a finger over her chest looking at him solemnly.
"Aardvarks are dumb animals." He said finally.
"Oh they are?" She asked with furrowed brows. " You do get my point."
"Elliott." Travis calls.
"Yes sir." Elliott suddenly appears in the doorway of her room like he hadn't been eavesdropping on their conversation since and taking sly glimpses.
"Please book an appointment with the therapist. Along with a full body scan with an added brain CT scan as well."
"Okay sir. I'll do that at once." He closed the door and began to go down the stairs.
"So you think I'm crazy?" She folded her arms and looked at him with annoyance.
"I didn't say that. You may have suffered a fall you can't remember and I'm just making sure you're safe."
"That's not true. I didn't fall and I don't have a concussion. I am physically and mentally okay."
"Mental illnesses don't necessarily show until it's too late." He said quietly.
"Great. You think I'm insane. What do you think I'm going to do next? Bite your hair?"
"Will you?"
"What?"
"Will you bite my hair?"
She huffed and tried to crawl out of his lap. His hold tightened on her waist.
"You're going nowhere."
"Oh you'd rather carry a crazy woman on your lap?" She frowned at him.
"You're not crazy." He said, looking at her deeply.
"Whatever you say."
Her phone buzzed, telling her she had a voice message and it began to immediately play. It was Octavia and her sickly sweet bubblegum voice.
"Hii. I hope the big bad wolf didn't hurt you,Ali. Grant said he was coming by to school to take you out for that Valentine's Day. Cover up and say you're coming for studies in my dorm. I'll dress you up. Bye love you."
The room's air thickened with tension.
"Big bad wolf huh? That's a very creative name." He says dryly.
"You've got it all wrong." She said quickly looking at him and the phone.
"You just said all this to lower my guard so that you can go on your stupid date with that boy." He said angrily. He said the word boy with so much spite.
"No,It's all a misunderstanding."
"Make me understand then."
"We were never together. It was all a silly joke to make you jealous." She blurted out.
"Excuse me?"
"Yes. That's why you used to get all those stupid texts and ambiguous pictures and I always used to do outrageous things so you would get even more jealous." She said in a rush. She knew about the texts because when she was in the cell Octavia blurted out she was the one who used to send those things to his phone to make him angry and he would get even more possessive and then she would in turn do more dumb things.
In her past life, if she could remember clearly. Valentine's Day was coming up and Grant would take her on a date where pictures would be taken of them in the restaurant after she told him she was studying for her finals. He got so mad that he put her in his house and she took her finals there and had no way to go out until she threatened suicide a few times and he released his hold on her.
"So you're saying it was a joke planned by you?" He looked at her in disbelief.
"Yes. I mean a joke planned by only me. I don't know what my stepsister is doing instigating things like this. I didn't even plan anything like this. I don't know why she would tell me such." Alice said self righteously.
"So you don't love that boy?"
Again using boy like it was a derogatory word. "No silly, for someone who built a multimillionaire company and several others from the ground. You sure act dumb sometimes. Grant is just a silly admirer of mine. When you're as beautiful as me," She said, flipping her hair. "People just want to talk to you."
"Now let's go for breakfast." She said planting another kiss on his cheeks and moving out of his lap to push his wheelchair.
"You don't have to. I can do it myself." He said.
"I insist." Alice pushed the wheelchair down the stairs, wondering why he kept using it even when he could walk properly. But that wasn't something he needed to know that she knows right now.
She paused him to the dining table and moved her chair close to his and began to pile his plate with food.
"That's enough."He said but she wouldn't listen.
Until she was satisfied she continued to fill his plate till her father finally came with her stepmother to the table.
"Daddy dearest." Alice smiles heartily at her father, moving from her seat to peck his cheeks.
He looked at her in severe confusion. " Alice, you looked different today."
"Don't I look good Daddy?"
"Yes you do." He smiled at her, kissing her cheeks too.
She totally ignored her stepmother going to sit by Travis.
"Daddy the finals are coming."
"I'm aware. That's why your sister moved to the dorm. Do you want to do the same?"
"Oh no daddy."
"Okay. That's fine. Do you need anything?"
"Can Travis drop me off?"
"Yes-"
"No,it's not right for a young girl to be alone with a man especially when she's at an age where her hormo
nes are rising." Her step mother cut in.
"But Travis isn't any man. Right after the finals. We're getting married."
